I travel to Rome pretty regularly and am always on the lookout for a gem. GHP is one of them.
We always try to stay in this area of Rome because it is usually less crowded, yet an easy walk to most of the famous sites. Located on the famous Via Vittorio Veneto, across from the US embassy, it's perfectly placed for eating, shopping or to just enjoy being Rome.
From the time we arrived to checkout, it was a fantastic experience. Upon arrival we were quickly greeted by the bellman, who took care of our luggage as we checked in. The check in process was mostly seamless, although we did have to wait a couple hours for our room to be ready, which I fully expected as we arrived at 9am.However they were able to accommodate us before typical check in time. I took the time to take care of some work items and had a snack.
When we arrived in our room, our bags were already there and we took a little time to enjoy the wonderful view of Via Vitttorio Veneto. The room was large and comfortable. I had thought I booked a room with a terrace, as I would normally do, but I did not. It was fine though as the large windows opened fully giving the feeling of having a terrace when opened and allowing the cool air and hustle and bustle of the city in. Close the windows and you still have a great view with very little traffic noise. The bed was large and comfortable; we were able to rest well. The bathroom is a touch small, but normal for Italy. The shower was roomy and the water pressure was great. Our room was tended to twice a day. Once for make up and once for turn down.
We spent time at the spa our second day and the experience was excellent. The environment was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful.
We did not eat in the full restaurant, however the breakfast was a typical Italian style mixed with American items.
We had a nightcap each night at the bar, and while it is small, they have what you'll want and again, the staff were wonderful. Have an espresso martini, they are great. They also offer a fantastic wine selection, with something for every budget.
I have found it to be rare to have a 'poor' experience at a higher end hotel in Rome, and GHP continued our tradition of great stays there. The little things they did made the stay very enjoyable, like sending a small birthday gift to our room, when I never mentioned that it was my birthday. I would highly recommend GHP to anyone, and I believe you'll enjoy your time.
