Utterly Disgraceful – Aggressive Staff, Zero Pet Tolerance Despite “Pet-Friendly” Claim We’ve travelled the world, stayed in countless hotels, and encountered all kinds of service—but never anything as shocking and demeaning as what we faced upon arrival here. We came with our old, blind dog, who quietly relieved himself discreetly against a wall near the fence, well away from the entrance and out of sight of other guests. It was not a disturbance, not an accident, and certainly not a reason for humiliation. Yet instead of a warm welcome or even a polite redirection, we were met with hostility. The porter suddenly began yelling at me in front of everyone, aggressively questioning what I thought I was doing and barking orders that the dog should have gone to “the garden”—as if there was any sign to indicate such a rule. Worse still, instead of helping with our luggage—which was his actual job—he stormed off to clean the wall and demanded we apologize. Apologize? For what? For having a well-behaved elderly dog who relieved himself quietly and harmlessly on a stone wall? All this at a hotel that charges €35 per night for pets and claims to be “pet-friendly”? That is false advertising at best, outright deception at worst. This behavior was not just unprofessional—it was downright humiliating, and completely unworthy of a so-called five-star property. If we hadn’t prepaid, we would have walked out that instant. To anyone traveling with pets—or expecting a minimum level of respect—do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place.

Most of the things were good. Room was clean and had nice smell. Building itself is nicely kept. Breakfast was good with a lot of options. Staff was nice. Downside for me was that there was some loose paper of mirror frame in the room that could be easily fixed. And I think the access to sauna and inside pool should be included in the price.

Beautiful older mansion turned into a hotel. View from our room was great. Easy to taxi (or better yet, arrange a transfer)to and from train station or to Pisa Airport! Continental breakfast was included and had a nice variety to choose from. Restaurant/bar on the top floor opens at 7:30pm. Good service and food. We arranged a couples massage ahead of time but that day we saw no one else in the spa. Massage was more of a relaxing rub than a deep tissue massage. Overall it was nice but a little underwhelming.

This hotel should be reported to the health authorities. After just one night, we both woke up covered in red, itchy bites, and the itching got worse each day. We’ve stayed in many places around the world, but this was the first time we seriously feared we brought home bedbugs or scabies. The bedding was visibly worn and suspicious, and we noticed dark stains on the mattress and headboard – classic signs of infestation. The room smelled musty, and it was clear that proper cleaning and disinfection is not a priority here. When we informed the staff, they completely dismissed our concerns, as if this was normal. No apology, no solution, no responsibility. Absolutely unacceptable for a hotel that charges as if it’s offering comfort and quality. We had to disinfect all of our belongings and seek medical advice after the stay. This was not just unpleasant – it was disgusting, dangerous, and irresponsible from the hotel’s side. Travelers, be warned: this place is a health hazard. Do not stay here unless you’re ready to deal with itching, bites, and a ruined trip.

The place needs to be reevaluated for its 5 STAR status. Upon arrival the building looks great from the outside but hasn’t been kept up the same way from the inside. I was shocked to see that there is no bottled water offered in the room. There is plastic cups instead of proper cups. Staff isn’t helpful to help plan the visits around. The hotel isn’t bad the rooms are spacious but it needs someone to better manage so it can deserve its 5 Star status.

I stayed at this hotel some time ago, but when I was printing my photos recently, I remembered how great the stay was. The staff was very friendly and professional. The hotel is really close to the sea, which was perfect. I also want to recommend the breakfast, it was very tasty, and the lemon tart was unforgettable. If I visit Livorno again, I will definitely stay at this hotel once more.

What can we say 10/10 for everything! ||Staff service throughout the hotel! The accommodation was lovely our room was upgraded complimentary for a birthday. the rooms walls were a little tired with marks and scratches but obviously its a used room. ||marble and stone bathroom amenities the bed was huge the lounge area was very Italian. love love loved this hotel. Roof top bar is nice and they have a spa too but did not use. ||location is good, on the sea, plenty restaurants and shops in walking distance. Livorno train station is about 45minute walk. ||Would highly recommend this hotel!

It's not a 5 star hotel but also the price is not, for the price (118/night) is ok. But it hasn't been taken care of in years, you see damages everywhere, the beds are old, not uncomfortable though. The staff is super nice, great service. It's clean, the view is awesome, location is good. Breakfast... Could be better.

Yelp
We decided to stay in a hotel in Livorno vs an airBNB, bc we wanted a change of pace. Apts in Italy tend to be small, and the showers are tiny. The Palazzo is the nicest hotel in Livorno, and has been in biz for over 100 yrs. It has great views of the water fr the rooftop bar & restaurant. Single rooms were about €150,00 including taxes & fees. The rooms were spacious, and the bathrooms were good sized and inc a tub. We indulged in the bar & apps, bfast buffet and dinner during our stay. The service was excellent, but the pricing is high. For an example, an Americano cocktail was €18,00 vs elsewhere the drink would have been €8,00. Secondarily, the buffet is €22,00, but did not have made to order items. The scrambled eggs were runny, and the sausage were like hot dogs. I stuck to the charcuterie, boiled eggs, fresh fruit and croissants. I also grabbed take away for mija & ITC, that dropped the actual cost closer to €7,00/person. Lastly, dinner was +€100,00 for two entrees, a salad, a dessert and one glass of wine. All in all, a positive stay bc of the rooms, the location and excellent service. Apparently the Palazzo is popular for weddings and bachelorette parties too. I'm glad the Italian version of the latter are more tame vs the crap you see in Vegas - LOL!

Yelp
I know I'm rating hotel, but I have to start with the food. I'll try to take a picture tomorrow morning of the breakfast buffet. It was beautiful - inside and out. Yes, inside of my belly. They have these small pizza bites (for breakfast - it's like college, I know) that were so amazing. The hotel is clean, the prices reasonable, the Internet fast and free and the parking is absolutely easy and free as well. If you pay for a small upgrade, you get a beach view. There's also a fitness studio with technogym equipment and a spa (spa I haven't tried). The TV has a few international channels. Everything fancy shmancy, you could say. My boyfriend wants me to add: the toilet paper roll isn't properly attached to the wall and there is some mold along the bathtub.

Yelp
Can always count on NH Hotels to be up to par with the cleanliness and the trends, outfitting and technology. They understand importance of Free WiFi, LED TVs, quiet air conditioner, healthy choices for room service, and other standards not so common in buildings in Europe. I stated in NH Hotels in Barcelona, Palermo, Rome and always got same exact set of standards at affordable price,- True value for money! Love it!

Yelp
This is a nice hotel in a good location for Livorno. The room we stayed in was clean and had a nice ocean view. The king size bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The breakfast was typical European style breads cold cuts cakes juice and cheeses. I must say for our taste the scrambled eggs are more like soup but the locals seem to enjoy them so maybe that's their preference. Overall we are satisfied with the hotel the facilities and service. The desk staff had a couple of individuals that seemed bothered when approached. We are not sure if it was due to we are on Italian and spoke English but we did not let that ruin or stay. They changed their attitude quickly when their supervisor was at the desk and made the effort to make us feel a little more welcome. Would stay again if I were in Livorno again.

Yelp
I stayed at the NH Grand Hotel Palazzo in Livorno three times and the overall experience is very positive. Rooms are large and nicely furnished, with everything one may need. Besides the lobby there are a couple of rooms with couches where it is possible to meet others, and the breakfast room has an outdoor space to enjoy the fresh air in the summertime. Bar and restaurant are located on thetop floor, there are tables outside on the terrace, as well as a small but nice swimming pool and several sundecks. View from the rooms is directly on the seaside, while those on the inner side overwatch a park. Personnel is helpful and polite. Unfortunately the internet connection is not included in the room price but costs €10.50 extra per day. I don't get it... considering that a night at the hotel doesn't cost €30, it would have been better to add €10 to the final price and give internet access for free (especially for those going for work that would have to pay themselves the extra fee)!
