We had a great time here, management, front desk, bell boys, bar service all were amazing. We got upgraded and our room was clean with a kettle and tea and coffee. Nice atmosphere, good air conditioning, and mostly comfortable. The hotel is a palace , a museum, and a historic site that needs to be appreciated. See the photos. Close to everything. Ceiling art is hand painted, halls are beautiful. Everything was amazing. The gym has showers, coffee.it is very beautiful ,.and water station and apples l Breakfast buffet had huge selection from cheeses, eggs, meats, pastry, fruits, yogurt, salads, breads, grilled vegetables, and corner for healthy food. Coffee , teas, and cappuccinos. Great experience. Amazing attentive staff.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Grand Hotel Plaza. |Stepping into the hotel was like stepping back in time to a grand Italian classical era. The hotel is wonderfully located and ideal for walking to all the major attractions. It is also a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy city.|Our large room with Via del Corso views was ideal for watching the world go by. |Our sons joined us later in the trip and we moved to a beautiful family room, which comprised of 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a garden terrace with furniture. The rooms were spotless with beautiful linens. |The terrace on the 5th floor has amazing views and is a lovely place to sit in the evening as the sun sets.|Finally, we must mention the wonderful reception staff and hotel porters. So warm and welcoming, they brought a smile to our faces every day.|We had read varied reviews of the hotel before booking but are so glad we stayed there on our wonderful holiday in Rome.

I recently hosted an event at this beautiful and historic hotel, and I truly could not have asked for a better experience. The Sala Festa event space was absolutely stunning—elegant, timeless, and full of character. Some may say the guestrooms are old, but I would describe them as classic and reflecting the rich history of the hotel, which I appreciated even more after reading about it on their website. The service was outstanding from start to finish. Special thanks to Lani, who handled all the details with such care, and a heartfelt thank you to Alessandro, the F&B Manager, who went above and beyond to make us feel special throughout our stay. The carefully curated dinner was delicious, the wine pairings were perfect, and the presentation of both the food and dessert was beautiful. From the moment we arrived, we felt like VIPs. I believe her name was Patricia at the front desk—she greeted us warmly and already knew who we were. Every staff member we encountered added personal touches that made the experience feel truly elevated. This hotel will always have a special place in our hearts, and we’ll return every time we visit Rome.

My son and I stayed in a family room with two separate bedrooms and have currently booked for four nights at a massive cost of well over €3000. ||The hotel facilities in the rooms are worse than you would get in a Travelodge in the UK. There are no flannels in the bathroom, no teal coffee making facilities, the two bedroom doors don't actually shut, the safe was so complicated and contained no instructions and even the staff member sent to help had to take 15 minutes to figure out how to shut it.||There appear to be open electric sockets above the shower, the basin whilst clean has limescale all over the base of the taps. ||If you look on the website it would appear to show wonderful views across the city... we are staring at a brick wall.||On the plus side, it is at least close to all of the attractions of ancient Rome but that is all I can say to recommend it. I would avoid it all costs

The hotel is simply amazing and historic. Second oldest hotel in Rome. The rooms are spacious, bathrooms are clean and big and the service is impeccable. The breakfast is amazing. Can’t beat the location either. Walking distance from everywhere.||Tip: they don’t do a great job at advertising but go to the 5th floor and have a drink on the balcony. Amazing view.

We had a great time in the Grand Plaza Hotel.Location is excellent. You can walk to lots of famous cultural places. Staff is very friendly. Head of booking and reception staff very proffesionaly orienteted. Rooms suited with old style soffisticated furniture, which coresponds to the history and ellegance of the hotel. Pillows are the excellent!

The lobby is luxurious, but the accommodation experience is average. Breakfast is 70 euros per person, very monotonous and unpalatable. The so-called rooftop terrace is not allowed to enter, the reason is private space、The price and service are not consistent, not recommended to stay

Google
This hotel is nowhere three star, let alone a five star hotel. The description on their website is misleading. They assign a non A/C room even if you book A/c rooms. We couldn’t sleep due to heat in the middle of the summer. ||The breakfast offered is a joke. The hot items are charged extra on top of $40||The front desk does not pick phones. The hotel is seriously dated and under staffed. ||The floors and the doors all make creepy creaking noise. ||Their furniture is never cleaned and accumulating dust causing allergies and hives. ||We saw less than 10 people in the break fast room during the peak hours. ||The front desk staff there has attitude and speak to you as if they are extending you favor. ||This hotel is not cheap and there are plenty of options in the vicinity. ||Go elsewhere.

Yelp
We stopped here for a few drinks after our cooking class... I was blown away at how beautiful this hotel is and how the owners kept the originality of it. The best part was our bartender/cocktail extraordinaire Francisco. His personality, authenticity and customer service is what kept us here and kept us wanting more. Listening to him tell the history of the building and all the movies (John wick, 007, a man named UNCLE to name a few) that have been filmed here just made our entire day. We were a large group and he took the time to show us around, making sure we were enjoying our short stay and he was meticulous in creating our drinks. He even went up onto the rooftop to make sure we were doing okay and that the heat wasn't too unbearable for us...that's top notch customer service. All the employees here were fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend coming here for drinks. If you like originality and history-I would recommend staying here as well. It's original so please keep that in mind and please respect the hotel and its employees. Thank you Francisco for your time and for the impeccable service we received. alla prossima volta amico, grazie per questo servizio meraviglioso e indimenticabile

Yelp
Beautiful BUT smells of sewer in the rooms and bathrooms. I stayed in the 4th (#402) floor with a balcony, queen bed. I loved the decor and common areas of this hotel. The service was excellent and staff were so nice, but something was TERRIBLY wrong with the bathroom in my room, for the sewer stench was unbearable! Day and night. I only stayed there two nights, so I only said something on the 2nd night and they offered to change my room, but I was pretty settled in, so to move for one night was a pain. The breakfast was good, and the location was superb if you are getting to know Rome, but if you are looking for a quiet room, this isn't the place for you. There is a violinist with a speaker outside that plays music almost all day - which I enjoyed to be honest, but while I tried to nap and get fresh air, I couldn't because it was loud.

Yelp
Just happened to swing by to grab one drink and it was such a great surprise!! Flavia and Ali welcomed us immediately and were the sweetest! We ended up staying for a few more drinks and had the best time with these two! We will definitely make this a MUST when visiting Rome from Texas! Such a perfect night thanks to Flavia and Ali!

Yelp
this place is a complete trap. i saw the website and really loved the vibe and was super excited to stay here. but i was super disappointed and horrified - i don't know how this place is supposed to be 5 stars. first of all, the room was really dirty, it's quite dusty and there's many signs of poorly maintained areas (is that even a thing? poorly maintained?) and they didn't give us water the first day and there's no tea kettle? (it's 5€ to rent and 20€ if you want tea/coffee set) oh, the toilet is dysfunctional and the water goes down the sink incredibly slow. the bed mattress is the kind that has springs and they are so worn in that if you sit/lie on the edge you WILL fall off. when we asked for more towels, they said they don't have anymore at the moment so we were given robes. the wifi also doesn't work from our room (#355) aside from the decor and the location, i have nothing good to say about this place. i would never stay here again.

Yelp
Big disappointment, the room is tacky, I paid 300 dollars a night to find out that I am in a historic building that founded in 1840 but you don't get any good feeling except you Are in a tacky place. The lobby is stunning and beautiful. The service was ok but this place ain't worth over a 100 dollars a night. I gave two stars one for the location and one for the front disc people.

Yelp
This hotel deserves five stars based on its history and opulence of the downstairs rooms It is every bit of charm that one would expect from an old grandiose hotel in the heart of Rome In fact the furnishings and the layout of the rooms dates back so far that I can't even describe The beds however are like hospital beds There is dirt interested in the areas of the bathroom and it just seems as though it would be better off just to remodel but that would destroy the charm With this hotel has going for it is history and charm don't expect a good breakfast don't expect a clean clean place but expect an incredible vibe with amazing staff. The hotel is authentic and the rate down to a composers piano in the main room and a distinct smell of mold permeating through out the entire establishment. If you are sensitive to mold I would suggest not going to this hotel. It's obviously prevalent. Otherwise if you're seeking a place and what I would consider the best location in room situated smack dab in the middle of the fashion District I would say go but whatever you do don't get a normal room go for the high-end rooms because the normal rooms will leave you not wanting to be at the hotel at all.

Yelp
This place is a big disappointment. I spent a considerable amount of money upgrading to a "room with a view" only to check in and find a view of the H&M across the street. The hotel is on a very busy street that has a lot of noise. My "deluxe" room has an old school key that doesn't work most of the time. It's very annoying to have to find someone to open my room for me every time I want to enter. The beds are very hard which I don't care for. The driver of the car that the hotel arranged to pick me up at the airport was texting and talking on the phone the entire 40 minute ride. The only thing this hotel has going for it is that it is very pretty. The lobby and main floor ceilings are lovely, the stair case is beautiful with a large lion statue. You can do a lot better than this for the price.

Yelp
I enjoyed my experience in this hotel. There were issues with my 1st room, but Nader switched me to a new one and it was perfect, he followed up and ensured that there were no future issues. His dedication to the guest experience is admirable. Serenia at the front desk helped to map out my adventure for the day to ensure I did not get lost. She has a brilliant personality and is kind hearted. Nader and Serenia are fantastic at what they do. I appreciated them both, thank you.

Yelp
The NOT-SO Grand Hotel Plaza Rome This was our second trip to Rome and my wife insisted on splurging on a 'Ritzy' suite this time (Yes, it was my wife's fault!). Our room was #580. The room rate we paid was 550 Euros per night (The rate card on the door was 450 Euros -- but they said that was wrong -- ???) The Problems & Defects: 1) The bed from Hell! -- Seriously, this was the very worst bed I have ever slept on in my whole life; and that includes couches and bare floors! It was like sleeping on a trampoline. Every time my wife would turn over, I felt like was going to bounce out of the bed. The 4" thick mattress had absolutely no sub-frame -- just bouncy springs. 2) The room was in a sad state of decay and poor maintenance: The white wall paint streaked onto wooden floor as if it had been painted by a child. Pieces had been cut out of the floor and replaced with ill-matching scraps of wood. The old frayed runner in hallway was bowed out of shape. While the bathroom had one of those fancy bidets, it did not have a single shelf to put one's toiletries on, which caused my wife to growl. The furnishings on our deluxe veranda consisted of cheap dodgy yellow plastic chairs, badly stained and weathered. 3) As usual, I forgot to bring my universal electrical plug, so I trotted down to the front desk and asked to borrow an electrical plug. They said they had one left and that they were going to charge me 20 Euros (They cost 60 to 80 cents in the USA.). I told them that I could buy 30 of them for that price. They replied they had to charge me that because of insurance. Whenever I asked what they meant, they always started to speak high-speed Italian. 4) The whole hotel reeked of mildew as if somehow it had suffered through a tsunami that had inundated all five floor. 5) The furniture throughout was well-worn by many decades of hard use. If you sat on a couch you could practically feel the floor beneath you. 6) For a buffet breakfast that would cost $3.95 in Las Vegas; they charged 74 Euros !!! 7) The carpeting in every public room was dilapidated, thread-bare and heavily stained and reeked of stale cigars. The desk staff bragged how movies had been shot there -- I could only envision Stephan King doing an even more chilling remake of either 'Misery' or 'The Shinning' !!!

Yelp
Please be aware as there are employees steeling from the rooms. My parents stayed there and on the last day someone stole money from the safe in the the room. the stay was ok but when my parents were already on their way to the airport they realized that they left things in the safe and when they came back the safe was empty and the money was gone. they called the police but had to go back to the airport as they had a flight to catch. Hope you find this helpful.

Yelp
Staff were excellent and very friendly. Breakfast was also very good. The room however was no where near a 5 star hotel.

Yelp
Terrible hotel. Overpriced. Dirty dishes are sitting outside our door. Keys didn't work to our room. AC doesn't work. Front desk have said 1)that they would send someone to look at the AC and didn't until we asked again 2) told us they would send a bellboy to show us to another (hopefully) cooler room, and he hasn't shown up either. Housekeeping barged into our room without knocking and looked shocked to see someone staying in the room. The glass sliding shower door is off its slide and does not close. The blow dryer looks like a small hose attached to the wall. Worst experience at a hotel hands down. Do NOT spend a dime on this place, much less $500 a night!

Yelp
I was treated badly at Rome's Grande Hotel Plaza tonight by the front desk mgr. This is not 5 star service. I had a mattress with springs sticking into my back and asked the front desk for a fix. He told me I must wait 30 minutes for the changing of the maids at 11:00 at night and new people would bring up a topper. I waited 30 min.. He went off shift and told no one about the bed. I went down and asked for the promised topper because the phone doesn't work only to find out no new maids replaced the day shift and only 2 people were left. The front desk manager and his assistant. That i was a lie to is pretty bad. The 2 at the desk agreed one would replace the mattress. He did that and its now 10 minutes to midnight. Also the whole hotel smells like musty water drenched drywall. The phone doesn't work and the one light next to The bed doesn't work. The bed is better but I gotta say it's a hard thing to deal with a mgr who lies to you to get out of doing his job. I won't come back here. The place needs wiring, plumbing, odor removal. My eyes are stinging. Oh and this was after a switch from another room where the plug in the bath was stuck shut and wouLd not drain and they used black tape to hold the shower head in place. This place is on the edge of collapse.

Yelp
I loved this hotel. It's top quality and beautiful. The staff was attentive and breakfast was included and actually delicious. We were on our honeymoon and the manager upgraded us to a small suite with a balcony. It was clean and huge. The balcony was great to sit and enjoy the weather with prosecco before heading to dinner. This hotel is steps away from The Spanish steps, shopping and everything. We wanted a location where we could walk and see Rome in the 2 day stay we had and we wanted to be close to the ruins. I would stay here again and will soon. I can't wait to go back to Rome. Amazing place and great hotel. Thanks to the manager Paola Licciardello who we never met. He really made the end of our Italy trip very comfy.

Yelp
Mission - Find top quality Hotel for Wedding Anniversary trip to Rome, never having been to Rome used usual routes; word of mouth, internet forums, Trip Advisor. The Grand Hotel kept cropping up regularly as offering luxurious elegance, but at a price. Rooms are expensive, £800 for three nights, breakfast not included! Pros - Good location, short walk from Termini and overlooking Piazza Republica, (with Metro for good travel round city). Impressive entrance and ground floor to Hotel, The hotel has great historical significance as Caesar Ritz opened it on 11th of January 1894 above the relics of the Baths of Diocleziano. When you see the marble pillars through to the lush fabrics covering the antique furniture in the public areas your expectations are met immediately, the wide corridors on the bedroom floors lead you to your room in anticipation of further grandeur and you will not be disappointed, our large room offered luxurious featues with an oversized bed covered with pale damask under a Murano chandelier and with a big marble bathroom, stocked with expensive toiletries. The bedroom widow overlooks the Piazza Repblica, at its centre the floodlit Fountain of the Naids featuring the Sea God Glacus and naked bronze nymphs (although years of traffic fumes have had a damaging effect on the 100 year old feature). All staff are attentive but discreet, refreshments (at a price) available 24 hours a day, perfect after a hard day seeing the wonderful city sights. Cons - Despite the romance, elegant atmosphere, comfortable surroundings of the public areas we felt as if we were the only guests there! (was it the price?)

Yelp
"Awful Hotel; Overpriced; Staff Doesn't Care." Reviewed May 30, 2010 It's certainly not what we expected from the hotels own description and implied by the high price. Our travel agent booked this for My wife and I and we stayed two nights in May 2010, until we could find an alternate hotel for the following four nights. We paid 246.50 Euros per night for a "classic" room plus Internet access at 15 Euros per day extra. There was no bellman to meet taxis. The doors having a ramp for rolling bags are locked. The only open door is a revolving door up one step and we struggle to check in. Our reservation cannot be found because they reversed my first and last name. The elevator smells of mold and mildew. Hallways are undecorated and institutional, with an old solid-red carpet and dingy paint. The room is large enough but has not been maintained for many years, i.e. needs paint, new furniture, new fixtures. No note paper, no pen, no chair for the desk, dim lighting not bright enough for reading or working. No rod in wardrobe to hang clothes except the flimsy attached hangars. No individual hand soap; must use a bottle of reusable hand soap. Bathroom smells of sewer gas. Shower is a cheap plastic unit, too small and in great contrast to the marble walls and floors. Shower drain is not clogged but still fills with water up to the ankles (yuck!). Sink stopper does not work. Not enough light in bathroom for shaving or makeup. No stands for luggage. Windows are shuttered and for good reason. No view except into other rooms. No facial tissue is provided or even available. We must call housekeeping because there is no toilet paper, no shampoo, refills, etc. Room safe is so high that we can't even reach it. No umbrellas for guests when it rained and we sorely needed one. We wait for the for rain to stop and have a drink in the lobby. Big mistake! We are charged 30 euros for 2 drinks (17 for a shot of scotch and 13 for a shot of grappa). Outrageous price, more than 2 bottles would cost! Amazing old ballroom between lobby and bar but it is empty and cold as the grave. The Continental Breakfast is a joke and don't believe what the management has said in their reply posted to these reviews. I observed a guest asking for eggs but not being told that the a' la carte menu is at significant extra cost. Eggs are approx 10 Euros extra. Anyone giving this hotel a positive review has no real experience with 5-Star properties. It's a mystery why this hotel continues to stay in business, let alone maintain their stars. It is a shame because the location is perfect and the public areas were once grand.

Sue W.

Yelp
The historic hotel has a beautiful lobby. The front desk staff as well as concierge were quite helpful. We were waiting for the concierge and the front desk staff saw us waiting and called us over to assist with our reservation so we did not have to wait. Our room was a bit larger than we expected for Rome historic hotels. The bed was very comfortable. The location is excellent for sightseeing as many location are within walking distance. When we return to Rome we will stay again at this location.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Room was a little dated. Fantastic location. Staff extremely helpful. One downside the bed was a little hard for our liking but overall a great experience.
