I immediately liked this place, its faded grandeur and old-world, almost central European, charm. Our top-floor rooms were very hot, however; one of them faced the terminus itself, with its chatty cab drivers outside, so it was noisy till the late hours if the windows were open, a point worth considering if you're noise sensitive, it's summer and you've forgotten your noise-cancelling headphones. Our other room on the far side of the corridor facing inwards was much quieter . . . and less hot. Breakfast was quite the occasion in a very pleasant, slightly grand dining hall, with a great selection of bits and bobs. I appreciated the photo of Amundsen at the hotel in the lift, c. 1927 I think, as well as the central position of the hotel.
