Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola

Very nice traditional style property with views of the lake. Very peaceful and relaxing.|The rooms are generous in size and well appointed with all the amenities you would expect from a 5 stars hotel. |They have a very good restaurants with diverse offerings to suit everyone. |The hotel facilities are very good, indoor pool, gym, spa area. |The staff in all areas are very friendly, respectful and helpful. |Getting around in Lugano is a bit tricky with getting taxis but the hotel always made arrangements for transportation at any time. |Would gladly return to this hotel.

What a wonderful stay we had here on our honeymoon!!! This was our first stay of many on our honeymoon, and it was the perfect start to our wonderful trip!!! Beautiful views, great room, exceptional customer service, wonderful food and awesome bar! We truly enjoyed everything and give it at 5 stars! We enjoyed our nightly drinks at the bar while listening to the pianist. Special thanks to Mario, he made our trip so memorable and helped us in a time of need. He's such a kind person and truly loves his job and helping people enjoy their stay. We will never forget Mario and our wonderful stay here. We will definitely return !!! Ciao!

Wonderful experience. Staff are warm, friendly, and very accommodating. Giulia went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. The restaurant staff were also great. Room was immaculate and comfortable. Highly recommend.

We just sent our clients here for a few days and they said the Gardens and views are amazing! They also highly recommend the spa services here, as they both had massages and LOVED them! The service was very welcoming and helpful, too.

Friendly atmosphere upon arrival. Historic property looking out over Lake Lugano. Rooms tend to stay warm but French doors open to balcony allowing breeze to flow through. Many updates including USB charging ports. Evening piano music in lobby area was a nice touch. Easy access to downtown. Bus stop in front of hotel.

The hotel is a gem combining old world charm with first class amenities. But most importantly the staff are incredibly attentive. For example, Mario was so friendly and helpful with travel advice to Milano. Then, when I left my Apple Watch in my room, instead of mailing to me, he quickly road out to the train station to hand deliver it in time for me to make my train! Who else does that today?

We only had one night in Lugano and decided to stay at Villa Castagnola. The staff were friendly all the way through! Everyone had a smile and a nice greeting. This is how it should be, but so seldom is. ||The location is perfect. It is close to the part of Lugano you want to experience and walk around in. on our departure day we walked up Mount Bré. It is quite a walk and we were late getting back. Before travelling home we asked to use the spa for a shower and to change clothes and this was no problem at all.||Thank you for a great stay!

Amazing staff. Made us feel like royalty. So helpful, so polite always accommodating. Great locations, across from Fonicolaire, minutes away from bus stop which is 7 min ride to center of the city

Friendly staff, awesome location in Lugano. The old-school interior is not my thing, but the hotel is not trying to be chic. Wish I had brought my tennis stuff to play on their clay court.

Laura and the entire staff here are extremely kind, hospitable, helpful and just amazing all around. Every single need or desire we had they cared for us like we were family. We ended up here after a car accident on the way to catch our flight out of Zurich and it couldn't have been more perfect. They not only helped us get our car to a first class auto shop, black car taxis to the auto shop, luggage carried all over, translations for us as we don't speak Italian, help changing our flights, dinner breakfast fresh fruit in the rooms and water. It was truly amazing. We are forever grateful for this place and these people, and will tell everyone we know about it all! We will be back for sure! :) thank you with all our hearts!

This review is all about the restaurant. The hotel is very nice and I would definitely recommend staying here. The food however at the restaurant is seriously horrible. Ate here a year ago and it was utterly amazing. My family and I went last night and were severely disappointed. I would of rather ate fries at McDonalds. It was very poor quality food that was beautifully presented. The fish was old and dry. The meats (pork and veal) tasted like they had been prepared a couple of days ago and warmed up in a microwave. If you are going here for a special meal, save yourself the disappointment and don't do it! I would only come back for a glass of wine and a roll. The only thing special here is the atmosphere and the outrageously priced subpar food.

I stayed here 30 years ago with my father when I was a young adult. I was iin Lugano for school and my father came to pick me up from school. It was a nice hotel 30 years ago and it's a truly lovely hotel today. The staff are kind and courteous. Staff is a tentative but not intrusive. The rooms are appointed well, simply yet elegantly. Get a balcony view. I'm here in late autumn it's cloudy and rainy but it still lovely to wake up and have the view of the lake in the mountains. The bathroom is fabulous! Breakfast comes with your hotel stay either in your room or down in the breakfast room. Delicious. I stayed here for a night for nostalgia, to remember my father who has since passed away. I'll be back with my husband to stay for a longer period of time. I cannot wait to come back!
