Grand Hotel Villa de France

We had a wonderful stay at Grad Hotel Villa de France. This hotel is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere away from the noise and crowds. From the moment we arrived, we felt a sense of calm. Every area of the hotel is beautifully decorated in an elegant antique style, giving it a charming and timeless character. The attention to detail in the décor truly adds to the overall experience. Our room was spotless, well organized, and fully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was clear that cleanliness and guest comfort are a top priority. Most importantly, our host was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the very beginning. We highly recommend Grad Hotel Villa de France for a quiet and charming getaway.

I had a mixed experience at Villa de France Hotel. On the positive side, the service from the waiters was really good. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made guests feel welcome. The music and animation were also very enjoyable, especially the pianist najeb who was extremely professional and talented. His performance created a great atmosphere and was honestly one of the highlights of the place. Unfortunately, the management side was the complete opposite of the service staff. The manager’s behavior was very disappointing. He treated people badly, shouted frequently, and did not seem professional at all. In my opinion, his attitude does not reflect the quality that the hotel should represent. It’s a shame because the team working there, especially the musicians and waiters, are doing a great job, but the management seriously needs improvement.

My stay at Villa de France in Tangier was absolutely wonderful. The hotel combines historic charm with modern comfort, offering breathtaking views over the city and the sea. The rooms are elegant, clean, and very comfortable. The staff were incredibly professional, kind, and always ready to help. The location is perfect—close to the old medina and the main attractions. A truly peaceful and luxurious experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tangier.

Nice hotel within walking distance from marina and medina. Nice bar with snack meal and restaurant with more meal choices. Great breakfast. Room 34 is kept as a memorial to Matisse who was here paining in 1911/12

As a proclaimed '5 star hotel', I am extremely disappointed by the hotel’s negligence and lack of basic care. On our Exoticca tour stay on Feb 10,, I was wearing slippers in the room when I stepped on broken glass that had clearly not been cleaned from the floor. The glass pierced through my slipper and cut deeply into my left foot, causing significant bleeding. This incident should never have happened if the room had been properly cleaned and inspected before our arrival. When we showed them the blood-soaked slipper with the glass still embedded in it, still the staff did not respond well. The hotel did not even have basic first aid supplies available. I had to seek help from another guest to obtain bandages and disinfectant while my foot was bleeding heavily. At no point did the staff take responsibility, offer meaningful medical assistance, or check on my condition afterward. Because of the severity of the wound, I was unable to walk properly for two days, which significantly disrupted our trip. Even now, nearly two weeks later, I am still experiencing pain in my foot. Despite the seriousness of the injury and the hotel’s clear failure to maintain a safe and clean environment, no compensation or apology was offered

The last time I visited this hotel I was 9 and I’m now 67! To be honest not much has changed. It’s a beautiful old hotel. Lovely room overlooking the city and the sea from the bedroom and the harbour from the bathroom. Everything in the room worked, lights, plugs etc..there was no mirror on the wall in the bedroom which was annoying. Hard to do your hair without a mirror! The only other thing in the room that was a BIG disappointment were the beds! They were literally like concrete!!! Lovely crisp white linen but horrendously hard beds. The pillows too were hard. This would be the only reason I wouldn’t return and why I knocked off a point. |Breakfast was ok. Not great but ok. We didn’t eat in the restaurant so can’t comment.|We did however visit the Matisse room which was where he did some of his work…that was a magical experience. Please note, the whole of tangier is built on hills including the hotel. Did feel a bit like a mountain goat climbing all the steps every day.

Shades of the past, piano music, live and recorded to accompany your meal experiences, vibes of Casablanca came to mind. A duplex building is now in front of the pool, so the advert picture is of yesteryear. My duplex was fine with views to the Straits of Gibraltar. The staff were helpful and efficient in providing taxi transfers. The restaurant has lost its atmosphere and choice of dishes from what I remember of stays in 1970s. For a 5 star establishment, breakfast leaves room for improvement. Cat lovers might be a little perplexed or distressed by the strays in and around. Overall, a pleasant sejour and the sunshine is for free.

I had a great experience at this hotel. The location is excellent—very convenient and within easy walking distance to many places. Although the building dates back to 1930, it has been very well maintained. I highly recommend it.
