Grand Hotel Wiesler (Graz, Styria) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Hotel Wiesler is a wonderfully grand place to stay — but not in the way you’d expect from a hotel that dates from 1909, in an Austrian city best known for its Baroque architecture. Once inside, you’ll find a hotel that makes much of its history, but happily updates it with cheekily modern graphic flourishes, and balances its century-old elegance with casual boutique-style gestures. Underneath it all, of course, it’s as grand as it says it is, just in a contemporary way; Salon Marie, the versatile restaurant and bar, handles everything from a hearty breakfast to a semi-formal dinner and cocktails after." - Tablet Hotels

Stayed for two nights, the hotel is quirky, when you check and walk to your room there is teh grand hotel feeling but slightly tired, however the rooms are fresh, they have gone for the stripped back look, which is quite nice.||The shower and toilet are separate and the hand basins is in the room, we had a Comfort Independent double room which was nice and spacious.||The location is great, you are just across from the old city, right next door to the Art Museum , eat there! and some very nice restaurants and bars.||We had a drink in the bar at the end of the day which was very pleasant, we didn't have breakfast but it looked good.||Our car was parked in the garage which was convention and you can walk through the back door of the hotel. thanks you to the reception team for making sure I didn't drive through the pedestrian zone :)||If we come back to Graz we would choose to stay again, liked the room and teh location

The location is excellent, just across the river from the old town, and the rooms on the front afford very nice views. We also found the decor interesting and original (other guests did not like it). The only drawback is the arrangement of the bathroom. My partner and I do not mind see-through showers or separate closets. But I have to admit that having to go through the room to move from one to the other might be considered inconvenient.

This was a disappointment. We booked for four nights. The hotel was recommended to us by a local, along with a few other hotels. From the reception, to the room, to the breakfast, it did not meet expectations and was definitely a poor choice all around. I regret not booking at the other recommended hotel that, when we walked by it, was quite popular. ||Problems... we booked one of the nicer rooms with a balcony and more space. The room is poorly arranged with the toilet and closet in the entrance hallway leading to the bedroom, and the shower and sink in a completely different location. The room had a persistent and rather overwhelming smell of sewage. We let the reception know several times with no results. The first night reminded me of pig farm smells. The phone in the room doesn't get you anywhere, so to try to get someone to help in the room, you have to physically go to reception. Also, the robe in the room was dirty - some sort of food or something on it. I left it still folded, but showing the dirty stuff on it (maybe blood?) so the housekeeper could see the issue, but it persistently left . Other problems - the shower drain didn't quite drain all the time and the bathroom floor became a slippery mess. The tub (in the bedroom) was also a bit dirty - clearly meant for a visual effect and not intended for use. There are also no amenities in the room... no lotion, no toiletries - nothing. The restaurant... not once did any ever welcome you to the restaurant nor come to your table and ask if you needed anything. No smile, no greetings - just sour faces. They did come to our table to kick us out a few minutes after 10 am (they end breakfast at 10 am). That was the only time someone even talked to us to basically say, get out. I don't mind someone saying, "I am sorry, but we need to clear all the tables" and maybe "would you mind moving to the bar or cafe? thank you, and have a nice day" Instead it was, "we are closed. you need to leave."||Bottom line - don't stay here. There are much better options in the beautiful town of Graz.

I will preface this review by saying that i have no idea what it costs to stay here. I have stayed 3 times all on business with expenses pre paid. So, that out of the way. Highlights: the BREAKFAST is awesome. Don’t miss. The rooms are large. Sorta odd honestly for what is clearly an old European property. There are elevators that are normal sized and the rooms are large even from an American perspective. Plenty of space to spread out. I’ve stayed in an assortment of rooms there. There are rooms with tubs btw if you need that. Warnings: i am not sure if there is AC or not. I have not stayed when it’s been hot, only spring and fall when frankly you want the windows open for the amazing air, but i dont really recall any AC. Also the hot water is HOT. Like 200 degrees F hot. Careful with that. Also, the bar closes pretty early. There is a sister property (i think it is anyways) a block down the street that stays open later (i mean with jet lag and all you will be up)||The location is great if you want to be “in the middle” of old Graz. Easy to walk about the old town from there.

I booked this hotel because it is really close to the city center and also had good value per night. Got the smallest room, which is cosy and enough for a weekend stay. I liked the placement of the beds. The room looked clean, but I think while we were away there did not happen too much cleaning around the bedding area. I have allergy and while I was trying to sleep I had to get medication to ease my breathing, which never happened while I was outside. Breakfast looked and felt fancy, although a bit crowded. All in all I loved to stay here

This hotel was once a luxury hotel. Located on the right side of the river Mur in Graz (an enchanting town in South Austria). I remember staying in this hotel in the 90s: an old-fashioned charm of Art Deco, impeccable service, and a great welcome on arrival. Now you have to take care of your luggage, the rooms are arranged cheaply, and room service is no longer available. Very sad.

Really good position next to old town and shopping, bar is really Cool and Staff at reception really friendly and welcoming, Room is Quirky, mixing things up but went with the feel of the hotel and we were driving from UK and was able to park opposite hotel which was very safe and convenient. Will stay again. Thanks

Room is very basic. It was raining and we had to close the windows, as the noise from the rain falling on the glass construction was very loud! The soap in the shower was empty of soap, filled with water. The only good thing was the location, as it is close to the center.

Yelp
First impression when I entered this hotel was WOW. Its an old building with very modern decorations. Looks clean and high end. Mick Jagger stayed there, along with many local celebrities, actors, I think even Schwarzenegger had a room there... Conveniently located near downtown Gratz, everything is basically within a walking distance. That's about it. Here is a list of cons that really bothered me during my stay: - My room was in between 2 floors thus forcing me to carry my (very heavy) luggage to my room. not cool when you have 50 pounds luggage in both hands and you just arrive after a 19 hours trip. - Bed is on the floor. Elevated floor but no spring box. It makes it really hard to lay down if you have a bad back/knee. You literally have to "crawl" to bed. This was extremely annoying. (The room looks like an IKEA demo bedroom. Nice looking but you can tell it's a bit cheap and very fake.) See here: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hotel-wiesler-graz?select=V3cM2cvs93iztzinxaEefQ - After the cleaning lady came to my room: - PUBIC HAIRS showed up by the head of the bed! (and those were certainly NOT mines!!!) See here: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hotel-wiesler-graz?select=t9f1LWyO4h9IHvesaKYGIw - She unplugged my iPad and removed the charger from the power outlet...huh... who touches customer's property like this? my tablet was therefore not charged when I got back to my room. Unacceptable. - You can't walk around the buffet in the breakfast room. Nice breakfast but the space b/w the buffet and the chairs/tables is so small that 2 people can't 'cross' without bumping into seated customers (r bumping into each other). Many frustrated customers. A mess. - The room has stickers that actually threaten customers in case of bad behavior (Thieves are pigs... smoking in the room and you'll be joined by very angry firemen...etc) This is childish, offensive for well behaving customers. it's like judging people on their intents. I feel it's very disrespectful. They can just say "no smoking" or "the hairdryer is yours for $100"... See here: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hotel-wiesler-graz?select=IBrdgZFwhMitMKuvQW1XQQ The man at the front desk was quite rude when talking to me. I won't go back
