Potentially my favorite hotel in Zermatt. Subjective, of course - I understand why Omnia ranks highly and also think that Mont Cervin Palace is a great place, but the prime location, amazing staff, perfect rooms and general charme of the estate just work beautifully.
I see the Matterhorn from my room and from my breakfast table - the breakfast itself is perfect - e.g., fresh fruit, various kinds of fish (great with poached eggs on toast), daily juice creation - but together with the sun rising and revealing Zermatt, the picturesque church and the mountains, I don't think I've ever had a better start into my day, even in places with extensive breakfast options like the best hotels in India or the UAE. The staff not only remembered my name but even my favorite table and the direction I like to sit.
The Swiss just understand grand hotels - few places manage to come close. The spa is perfect and fixes me after a strenuous day in the snow. And there are countless nice details like the shuttle service to the station when you arrive or leave, the welcome package, the sunscreen in the room (which I assume some guests might tend to forget) or how non-alcoholic drinks are free and frequently replenished which is not about being cheap, but such a nice gesture nudging me into hydrating well and preferring healthy options. I could go on - the bars, the ski room, the raclette and fondue restaurant in the cellar or the smoking lounge deserve mention. The location is perfect no matter what you want - one direction and you're immediately in the inner city (e.g., for shopping, dining or to head down to Täsch by train for cross-country skiing), the other and you are directly at the bus stop to hit the mountains at the very next stop. The only downside I found was that I didn't particularly enjoy the LUSI cuisine, but I think this is merely a mismatch of expectations: it is probably a decent option if you look for drinks on the amazing terrace or maybe if your kids want burgers while you want a French duck breast, but primarily expecting haute cuisine might leave you disappointed - Alain Ducasse this is not, in short: my recommendation is to ignore it and go straight for Prato Borni for a decent dinner. But this is just a detail to be aware of and doesn't impact the overall world-class Zermatterhof experience once you are.
In summary, I highly recommend this hotel. Such a charming place - I'm looking forward to many more stays to come.
