My husband and I spent two nights at the Grand Hyatt in Athens and much to our dismay, it did not meet the expectations of a 5-star hotel. Our room did not have proper AC to accommodate the heat in Athens, the vents were not kept clean, the mini fridge in the room was not cold at all, and was crusted with dirt on the bottom. The pillows in the bed was like sleeping on a piece of paper and the bed itself was hard and uncomfortable.
We refrained from drinking anything from the mini fridge due to the cost of lunch at the hotel restaurant, which ran us about 130 euro for 2 cocktails, 2 glasses of water (which they charge 6 euro), a burger and a pasta dish. We ate at a restaurant 4 blocks away from the hotel, which had delicious authentic Greek food and cost us a fraction of what the hotel restaurant charged us.
The hotel pool was not how it appeared in photos, which was disappointing- it was small and very difficult to gain the attention of the bartender to ask for a drink.
Our room gained us access into the mezzanine lounge, which offered complimentary cocktails and snacks, however the snacks were not up to par and the lounge was not kept clean - we saw heavy spotting on the floor near where we sat which can be seen in past reviews from over a year ago! The only good part of the lounge was the wine and beer that was offered.
The staff was not as attentive as expected from a 5 star hotel - my husband and I stayed at another 5 star resort recently, where the staff was attentive, friendly and more than accommodating. This particular Hyatt had conference room space, which took up a large portion of the hotel that could’ve been allocated better for guests to utilize.
Overall, this hotel did not meet our expectations as a 5-star hotel. Needless to say, we will not be staying here for future trips to Greece.
