"Opened in 2016 in the luxe Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, the Grand HyattRio de Janeirois a modern beach resort away from the tourist hordes. Designed by the international hospitality firm Yabu Pushelburg, which has partnered with many of the world’s top hotel brands, the Grand Hyatt delivers a boutique feel with all the amenities of a world-class hotel. Spacious guest rooms feature balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or Marapendi Lagoon as well as soaking tubs, separate rain showers, and locally made Granado toiletries. The subterranean spa and fitness center is extensive, with nine treatment rooms, a yoga studio, and steam rooms, while dining options include a Japanese grill, an Italian restaurant, and a Brazilian spot, each surrounding the large pool and lush gardens. While Copacabana and Sugarloaf Mountain can be an hour away by taxi in traffic, Barra offers plenty of high-end shopping and dining along its long, less-crowded stretch of beach."

Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro State) 5 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For a city with such a glamorous reputation, Rio de Janeiro comes up surprisingly short when it comes to high-end hotels. Sure, there are the classic beachfront landmarks — the historic Belmond Copacabana Palace and the sultry Fasano — and a few perfectly lovely boutique hotels tucked into the hills of Santa Teresa. But it’s hardly enough to keep up with the ever-growing numbers of discerning travelers descending on the cidade maravilhosa. Luckily, the Hyatt brand is getting into the game, adding hundreds of new hotel rooms into the mix." - Tablet Hotels

This was a fantastic hotel that felt super clean and well designed. The breakfast at the lounge was fantastic and had a very interesting assortment as well as amazing juices. The staff were all very friendly and spoke great English. The spa treatment was very cheap and only $50 USD for 90 minutes. ||The bed and shower pressure were great. The only problem is its location. It is super far away from everything in Rio. It does have a great beach right next to it, but anything else for its location is a 30 minute car ride away. You need to treat this hotel like a resort and not a hotel for exploring.

Had a visit in January for just 3 days as first visit to Rio and then Sao Paulo. This visit was ten days and it could not have been a better experience. Very much enjoyed the Grand Club Lounge for breakfast and happy hour....great views from the exterior seating and wonderful staff. Room with the balcony was great option for some quiet kick back time but the having both pool and beach for tanning/swimming was fantastic along with the food/beverage service at the pool and the volleyball nets and balls at the beach. Fitness Center was first rate and got four great workouts in over the ten days to help balance all of the delicious food consumed! Spa was over the top experience for two great massages, a 50 and then even better 80 minutes, both followed by time in steam room and sauna and then a great shower. There are some great restaurant options within a 5 minute walk and then more on the other side of the lagoon just a 10 minute uber away. The beach was fantastic for pure relaxation with Grand Hyatt lounge chairs and umbrellas. Facility, staff, and location were all perfect for a self-indulgent getaway. And the GIG airport just 35 minutes away by uber. Definitely want to go back for another such stay! And the weather in August was great even though technically "winter" in Brazil. Lots of sun and warm temps and great getaway.

I celebrated my birthday here and it was wonderful! I would highly recommend staying here in Rio if you do want to stay in the city. The traffic in Brazil is the worst I’ve ever experienced. I left for a tour in the city early and it still took 90 minutes for me to arrive. So be mindful of the activities you want to do and how far the hotel is. Club access was an additional highlight and the first time I’ve experienced it and it was worth its wait in gold. Super friendly check in and beautiful hotel with spa. Yes, the hotel is aging a bit in areas like the furniture and etc but for the point value no complaints. I hope Hyatt builds more location in the city by Copacabana and overall more locations in Latin America. Only two hotels in Rio & Sao Paulo is a bit disappointing and only one hotel in Buenos Aires. The one disappointing thing was my birthday dinner, I dined at Canto and ordered the Lobster Risotto and the lobster first served was extremely dry and super small. The chef sent out a fresh lobster tail but by that point I had already finished most of my meal. At the price point of the meal, the original meal should NOT have been sent out knowing that it was not up to standard.

Absolutely fantastic hotel. Pictures on booking platforms make the rooms look more dated than they are. All rooms come with a balcony, if you choose an oceanfront option you can see barra beach, the pool and a beautiful view of the lagoon. Lovely sunset views from balcony. ||Barra itself is the perfect location if you want to explore Rio. Whilst it is approx 40 mins in an uber from attractions like copacabana, Christ the redeemer & sugarloaf mountain ones are easily accessible and cost very little. ||The beach offers multiple bars with many also offering on beach chairs & parasols. ||The Barra mall is only 5 minutes away in an uber and offers many well known/ chain restaurant options. ||The hotel itself is immaculate with a well maintained pool area and lovely breakfast options.||For us personally we would choose this area over copacabana. Our summary would be that Barra offers a safe feel, comparable more to Miami whereas copacabana feels more like Benidorm. We had a reservation for the fairmont in copacabana but arrived and checked back out to return to the grand Hyatt

Everything you read in the reviews is true — the Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro is modern, spotless, and staffed by genuinely friendly people. The hotel itself is stunning, set right on the beach, but what truly sets it apart is its location.||It’s about 40 minutes from Ipanema, and that’s actually one of its best features. If you’re looking for a quiet, safe stretch of sand with far fewer beach vendors, this is the place. We felt perfectly comfortable taking Ubers at night to Leblon or Ipanema for dinner and nightlife, then returning to the peaceful luxury of the hotel.||If it’s your first time in Rio and you want to be in the middle of the action, this may not be the ideal base. But for a second visit — or if your priority is a modern, clean, and relaxing beachfront escape — you’ll be happy you found it. You can enjoy the buzz of the city when you want it and retreat to your own calm paradise when you don’t.

We came for my friend's birthday and Grand Hyatt Rio did not disappoint. They gave her a nice birthday dessert upon arrival (Thanks Alex!!) and while we dined at Cantos. Breakfast was fresh and the omelet station was great. The spa services were wonderful and our rooms were clean/ gorgeous. Fernanda at the concierge helped us make reservations and order food to the hotel. She went above and beyond. Our lagoon tour was amazing the biologist was a wealth of information and the driver got us close enough to see a capybara! We attended a caprihinia history class with Yuri @Yuri_Carv.bt and Djalma @Djalmajuniorcreative . We learned so much and the drinks were delicious!! The group fell in love with Rio and we will definitely be back.

We had an unforgettable stay in a Suite! The spacious apartment was impeccably clean, beautifully designed, and thoughtfully equipped down to the smallest detail. The club system was a true highlight for those who appreciate comfort: private check-in, exclusive lounge with drinks and snacks, and personalized service. The Japanese restaurant on-site deserves special praise. Exquisite dishes prepared with authentic techniques, the freshest seafood, and flawless service created an atmosphere of true Japan. The only downside is that it’s located far from the city center. However, even that turned out to be a plus — peace, quiet, and serenity far from the hustle and bustle. We will definitely return and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a premium getaway and exceptional Japanese cuisine!

Spacious and elegant hotel right on the beach, with modern, airy rooms, clean linens, and tasteful décor. Dining is excellent, and the views of the ocean are truly stunning. Staff in the restaurants and bars are very friendly and attentive, which creates a welcoming atmosphere. On arrival, however, we noticed some housekeeping inconsistencies (an empty bottle behind the curtain and used cotton swabs in the bathroom), so cleaning could be improved. Another challenge is that many staff members — even at reception — speak little English, which can make communication tricky for international guests. The hotel is located quite far from Rio’s main attractions and city center, but it still works well as a base for exploring the city, especially if you value a quieter beachfront setting. Technically, a few small things could be better: one elevator is very slow to close, the shower temperature takes time to adjust, and some wall sockets are poorly aligned. These are minor details, more nitpicking than real issues, but noticeable in a five-star property. Overall, a great hotel not only for relaxing by the beach but also as a comfortable base for discovering Rio — with excellent food, stunning views and comfortable rooms.

Yelp
If you go to Barra da Tijuca, you MUsT stay at the Grand Hyatt!! It is THE best hotel, with a resort feel! There are quite a few restaurants on the premises and they are not far from a variety of offsite restaurants and establishments. The rooms are absolutely amazing and super comfortable! They have electronic black out shades to keep the room completely dark, which was a great feature! Inside the hotel, they also have two pools, a spa, fitness center, etc. The food and staff are truly top-notch! The entire place is amazing and you will not regret staying here! Don't miss out on staying at this awesome hotel/resort!

Yelp
This was the scenario of the fantastic wedding of a couple of friends from San Francisco: the bride carioca, the groom Italian. They choose this hotel for the convenience of having us all in various hotels from Barra da Tijuca and for the easy access, beautiful grounds and fantastic service. Stellar service and hotel is modern looking and well taken care of. The pool area is chic and cozy and we all had a great time. Very recommendable for weddings.

Yelp
Very well located hotel with wonderful staff. Feijoada on Saturdays and brunch on Sundays are a treat with a live band always.

Yelp
Pros: Good Wi-Fi Pool Gym Located Across the beach Cons: Too far from tourist spots Customer service was spotty with everything except the concierge Arrived via taxi from the airport. Check In was ok. They were a tad bit slow. The hotel itself is beautiful and clean. It looks very modern and up to par with grand hyatt standards The room: spacious with a nice balcony. We had a partial view of the beach. There's construction going on and there's a big building the blocks the view. We asked for a rollaway bed and it was there when we arrived. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The restroom is a bit odd. It has a huge, heavy door that you must slide back and forth when you have to go the bathroom or shower. It's very big, but I think it would have been nicer to have a door that shuts the toilet area off. The toiletries were the best. I loved the lavender scent and they weren't skimpy with them. The shower water pressure was adequate. I can't say the same about the sink water pressure. Sometimes it was a drip and sometimes a slow stream, but it always took forever to wash your hands. The mini bar has beer, water and soda. They have a nespresso machine and a tea kettle. I was very surprised they only gave us one mug to share between three of us while we were there. The pool was great. It's big and spacious. There's plenty of lounge chairs. They have waiter service. Pool towels are offered. There's a door that leads to the beach by the pool area. You need your key card to get in and out. Extras: - We waited 20 minutes for ice and it never came. No Ice machines available. - an iron and blow dryer are available in the room - the gym was excellent. Plenty of machines and treadmills. They offer towels and water. - a safe is available in the Room - the concierge was awesome. They helped me set up my driver and tour guide for day 1. Then they helped me buy train tickets to Christ the Redeemer. - If you want a snack or drink, they have a 24 hour store on the first floor. Do expect hotel prices. - we used Uber for everything since everything is so far away - they have Lounge chairs at the beach. They also have water available for you.

Yelp
A really great hotel with a friendly and supportive staff. The hotel is new and modern and even during a covid lock down the staff made sure we felt a minimal impact. They also do a good job taking care of their elites and special thanks to Denise and Felipe for taking such care of us! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Yelp
I stayed here in September and had a very nice time. The hotel is new in appearance but breaking down in many places. That being said, the staff was exceptional and went out of their way to solve problems (like my phone not working). I saw some reviews of the construction and out of the way location but I enjoy it being a little less crowded and the are a little less run down like Copacabana beach. I stayed elsewhere in my December trip but likely will be back to the Grand Hyatt the next one. Full disclosure, I was in a Oceanfront Suite in both and the room and balcony were very large. If it didn't have as many flaws as it has from wear and tear, I would have given it five stars for price and service. And a note to anyone, service is never fast in Rio. I recently stayed at the Fairmont Copacabana (doesn't exist on yelp) and it was more expensive. Copacabana isn't a great location and its spot on it is very loud with the historic port in front. The rooms were much smaller even at 50% more expensive and the food was very average.

Yelp
I have been to Rio de Janeiro over ten times, I love the city and lately I have been choosing Barra da Tijuca to stay. It is quieter, the beaches are broader and bigger, and the sea is much nicer than in Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon. Barra da Tijuca is perfect for families or people looking to rest and/or piece and quiet. This is the first time we stayed at the Grand Hyatt, as it is pretty new. The facilities and the staff were great. The hotel is very modern, with clean and spacious rooms, great bathroom, shower and tub. Wifi connection is great, the pool is very nice, and it is right across from the beach. Breakfast is really really good. There are 3 very good restaurants in the hotel, a terrace that overlooks the city, all rooms have balconies. Ours was facing the pool and the ocean. The spa and the gym were really good too! They offer you bikes for free for an hour. Of course we already know our way around Rio by heart, but if you are looking to hang out in the heart of the city most of the time, keep in mind that it could take you anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour fifteen to get to Copacabana or Ipanema on public transportation, or 20/25 minutes if you rent a car or take an UBER, which by the way works perfectly in Rio. As far as restaurants around the area, you have a few good ones, but of course, not as many as in the heart of Rio (Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon). There are a couple of shopping malls about 7 minutes by UBER. Also, for the adventurers, there are a couple of beaches close to this area that are hidden gems in Rio... most tourists don't go there: PRAINHA and JOATINGA. So if you are looking for piece and quiet and to enjoy the beach staying in a great hotel, this is a great choice.

Yelp
I don't even know what the bad reviews are for! This hotel is absolutely beautiful. I'm American and the room was only $44 USD a night and absolutely incredibly high standards. If this hotel was back in the states, it would be $500 a night easily. Stunning ocean views, the staff was very kind and accommodating, pool is gorgeous, hotel is massive and they have several great restaurants. The spa was WONDERFUL too. Highly recommend for any Americans visiting. Made my visit to rio an absolute DELIGHT!

Yelp
This is the nicest hotel I have stayed at in my life and I stay in hotels as part of my occupation. The hospitality is incredible, personal and not at all automated as most hotels. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. With an ocean view room I left the door open all night and slept to the sounds of he ocean.

Yelp
This was a FABULOUS experience! We wanted a great beach, and while a little far from Ipanema and Copacabana, Barra da Tijuca offered our favorite beach in Rio. Victor and the hotel staff, despite being a huge hotel, make us feel at home, and the room was OUTSTANDING, spacious, and beautiful. The fitness center was outstanding, and my only regret was not going to the spa. Don't be thrown off that this hotel in not in downtown Rio- the beach and amenities of the hotel are worth it for a perfect experience!

Yelp
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. I waited at the pool for over an hour trying to order drinks, we asked the waiter for a menu over 10 times and never got one they kept saying they didn't speak English when I'm brazillian and speak fluent Portuguese. We asked for a bucket of beer and the waiter said they didn't have any left when 10 minutes later I saw at least 10 buckets walk past me. Since they didn't have any beer buckets I asked for the champagne menu and never got one so I got fed up and asked to speak to the manager I waited for over 30 minutes and he never showed up so I had to go to the lobby and speak to the manager. I spent 2 hours trying to get this resolved. I live in Florida where hospitality is a big deal and this was one of the worst hotels I've stayed at. I understand that it is New Year's Eve and they are busy but it's Rio de Janeiro and Hyatt a hotel with over 500 rooms should be equipped and ready to handle an influx of guest at the pool. If they can't service that many people maybe they shouldn't book all the rooms.I'm surely never staying here again. The manager of the hotel did a great job at helping us get situated and even gave us a bottle on the house. The only good thing A about this hotel was he manager.
