"Opened in 2016 in the luxe Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, the Grand HyattRio de Janeirois a modern beach resort away from the tourist hordes. Designed by the international hospitality firm Yabu Pushelburg, which has partnered with many of the world’s top hotel brands, the Grand Hyatt delivers a boutique feel with all the amenities of a world-class hotel. Spacious guest rooms feature balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or Marapendi Lagoon as well as soaking tubs, separate rain showers, and locally made Granado toiletries. The subterranean spa and fitness center is extensive, with nine treatment rooms, a yoga studio, and steam rooms, while dining options include a Japanese grill, an Italian restaurant, and a Brazilian spot, each surrounding the large pool and lush gardens. While Copacabana and Sugarloaf Mountain can be an hour away by taxi in traffic, Barra offers plenty of high-end shopping and dining along its long, less-crowded stretch of beach."

Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro State) 5 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For a city with such a glamorous reputation, Rio de Janeiro comes up surprisingly short when it comes to high-end hotels. Sure, there are the classic beachfront landmarks — the historic Belmond Copacabana Palace and the sultry Fasano — and a few perfectly lovely boutique hotels tucked into the hills of Santa Teresa. But it’s hardly enough to keep up with the ever-growing numbers of discerning travelers descending on the cidade maravilhosa. Luckily, the Hyatt brand is getting into the game, adding hundreds of new hotel rooms into the mix." - Tablet Hotels

I've been the Grand Hyatt Rio many times and it keeps exceeding my already high expectations. On this trip, we stayed at the Hyatt twice: before and after our trip to Ilha Grande. It's such a beautiful hotel and everything was perfect: lounge, pool, beach chair service and the fantastic housekeeping. 5 stars all around. The location is breathtaking next to the ocean AND the lagoon. Also the Sushi restaurant was very nice. Bruno reached out in advance via email and helped me with my requests. Then he greeted me at check-in and personally escorted me to our suite. Great service and very friendly! Also Alex and Sergio at the lounge were excellent and worked hard to keep the lounge clean and bring us tasty drinks. On the second stay, Filipe went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. My gf was so happy and in love with the view from our suite! Thanks so much!

This is not a vacation hotel. I do not recommend going there if you’re planning to have a nice quiet time. It is primarily a business hotel and they are conferences all day. You get that feeling every day and it really takes away from wanting to enjoy it as a holiday. The breakfast selection is good. The lunch and dinner options are not that great as you can only have an à la carte for lunch and on Sundays. Leaving you have to go out of the hotel in order to go and find something if this is not what you want. It took me four different waiters to get me some milk for my coffee and they do not know the difference between an Americano, coffee and an espresso, which blew my mind. The gym is OK a bit better than most hotels. The spa service is nice but a bit overpriced in my opinion. The pool is in the middle of all of the rooms and restaurants so it gets blocked in terms of sunshine. You also are right on the road and so hear the traffic all day. What I did like about it is that it is out of the Main space of Rio. However this can be a challenge if you want to do all of the touristy things and have to hire a Uber or taxi every single time that becomes expensive. You can hire a bicycles, which is quite nice. The advice that I was given when traveling was to not wear any jewelry or expensive looking clothes which I really did appreciate as I had a great experience in Rio because I was safe and smart about this. It is true and the locals will tell you do not be on your phone or hold it whilst you are in public. Following these basic safety rules makes all the difference to your holiday.

I loved my stay at this hotel. The staff were all amazing. It was easy to navigate around the hotel especially as I was there for a conference. The breakfast buffet was one of the best I've ever seen. I loved that they also had so many options for me as I'm plant based. The beach is literally right across the street and easy to get too. I had a view of the lagoon which was so beautiful and it was fun watching the helicopters and small planes go by. The vegetation was lush. My hotel room was lovely and very spacious and clean. I enjoyed using the bikes they had on hand to take a short tour of the area. This was a perfect spot for the conference I attended. I would definitely stay here again.

I always prioritize Hyatt when I travel, so the Grand Hyatt Rio was the perfect choice for my stay — especially since the conference I was attending was hosted on-site. The property is beautiful, and I loved that hotel guests have a designated area on the beach with dedicated service.||||The only downside is the distance from some of the main attractions near the Copacabana area. Traffic in Rio can be brutal, so getting back and forth takes time. If you're planning to explore that side of the city often, just build in extra travel time.||||Overall, it was a solid stay and a great fit for anyone attending an event at the hotel or wanting a more relaxed, beachfront vibe.

We just returned from a 5-night stay this property and were very impressed the amenities of the hotel and service of staff. We’d highly recommend this to anyone. Here are a few reasons why::|- Concierge team: I had numerous emails back and forth with the concierges in advance of our stay. Their care and attention to the things I wanted to do while in Brazil helped to really make the trip special. They connected me to a wonderful guide, Miguel, who took us all around the city to various points we wanted to see. They also arranged a driver to bring us from the airport to the hotel as we were leery of other transportation options since we were arriving after midnight. |- The room and the view: We stayed in an ocean lagoon suite. The view from that corner room with wraparound balcony to me couldn’t be beat! You could see the ocean in the distance, but had a bird’s eye view (literally) of the lagoon, so may birds, and mountains. It was the perfect view of all things from one vantage point. And the sunsets right off our balcony were outstanding. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Everything was very clean. |- On-site activities: The hotel offered numerous, free activities to enhance our stay. We really enjoyed the caipirinha making class and the lagoon boat tour. |- Club Lounge: As a globalist we had club access and enjoyed the daily breakfast and evening food in the lounge. The service there was top notch ! The morning offerings were substantial with a large buffet of hot and cold items and an unbelievable selection of breads. And then they would make you eggs made to order. The evening foods were a little repetitive but it was enough for us for dinner all but one night. |- Service excellence: We had two really exceptional moments of service. First we arrived at nearly 2 am after an extremely long day of travel. The front desk staff offered to open back up the market store for us to purchase some food and beverages. They even warmed up in their toaster oven for us a few sandwiches that were in there. Secondly, we had an issue with our air conditioning on our first night. The next day they promptly fixed the A/C but all offered to bump us up into the Diplomat Suite. An amazing gesture but one we declined because we sincerely enjoyed the view of the mountains and lagoon and felt it was a more authentic Brazilian view than the straight ocean facing view of the higher level suite. |- Our Globalist status was recognized with a bottle of champagne and a tin of biscuits in our room upon check in.

I celebrated my birthday here and it was wonderful! I would highly recommend staying here in Rio if you do want to stay in the city. The traffic in Brazil is the worst I’ve ever experienced. I left for a tour in the city early and it still took 90 minutes for me to arrive. So be mindful of the activities you want to do and how far the hotel is. Club access was an additional highlight and the first time I’ve experienced it and it was worth its wait in gold. Super friendly check in and beautiful hotel with spa. Yes, the hotel is aging a bit in areas like the furniture and etc but for the point value no complaints. I hope Hyatt builds more location in the city by Copacabana and overall more locations in Latin America. Only two hotels in Rio & Sao Paulo is a bit disappointing and only one hotel in Buenos Aires. The one disappointing thing was my birthday dinner, I dined at Canto and ordered the Lobster Risotto and the lobster first served was extremely dry and super small. The chef sent out a fresh lobster tail but by that point I had already finished most of my meal. At the price point of the meal, the original meal should NOT have been sent out knowing that it was not up to standard.

Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Unacceptable Noise Disturbance During Recent Stay af Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro Dear Hyatt Management Team, I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent two-night stay at your property. I am an extremely loyal Hyatt guest, holding Explorist status, and I consistently choose Hyatt. On the first night, there was a party with loud music. Although it was bothersome, the event ended at a reasonable time, and I accepted the inconvenience. However, on the following night, the situation escalated to an absolutely unacceptable level. There was a company event taking place, and the noise and vibration inside the rooms were impossible to tolerate. As a result, my family was forced to leave their room and change rooms in the middle of the night — an extremely disruptive and uncomfortable situation. To give you an idea of the extent of the disturbance, my son even recorded a video showing the vibration inside the room. Please send me an email address where I can forward the video, and I kindly request an appropriate response and resolution from management. This situation has also been escalated to Hyatt global customer care. Sincerely, Mauricio

We have been here several times and the price keeps going up and the overall experience going down. First they told us that our room wasn't available when we got there due to a "maintenance issue" so they put us in another room for one night. It was an upgrade but it wasn't worth having to check out of our room and be between rooms for hours while we waited for the new room. When we asked why it wasn't available sooner, they said that the people hasn't checked out yet. So they lied to overbook the hotel, causing us to waste most of a day jockeying rooms. The price of the hotel also nearly doubled since last year and last year we were here for the Xmas holiday, so it's not like it was low season. There were issues with the room with the water backing up from the shower into the sink, causing black water to almost fill one of the sinks. They didn't refresh some things in the room, like toiletries, unless we requested it. Service and quality at the club on 7 were the highlight. The staff there is fantastic. This was our 5th or 6th time staying there but may be our last. Sad to see the progression.

Yelp
If you go to Barra da Tijuca, you MUsT stay at the Grand Hyatt!! It is THE best hotel, with a resort feel! There are quite a few restaurants on the premises and they are not far from a variety of offsite restaurants and establishments. The rooms are absolutely amazing and super comfortable! They have electronic black out shades to keep the room completely dark, which was a great feature! Inside the hotel, they also have two pools, a spa, fitness center, etc. The food and staff are truly top-notch! The entire place is amazing and you will not regret staying here! Don't miss out on staying at this awesome hotel/resort!

Yelp
This was the scenario of the fantastic wedding of a couple of friends from San Francisco: the bride carioca, the groom Italian. They choose this hotel for the convenience of having us all in various hotels from Barra da Tijuca and for the easy access, beautiful grounds and fantastic service. Stellar service and hotel is modern looking and well taken care of. The pool area is chic and cozy and we all had a great time. Very recommendable for weddings.

Yelp
Pros: Good Wi-Fi Pool Gym Located Across the beach Cons: Too far from tourist spots Customer service was spotty with everything except the concierge Arrived via taxi from the airport. Check In was ok. They were a tad bit slow. The hotel itself is beautiful and clean. It looks very modern and up to par with grand hyatt standards The room: spacious with a nice balcony. We had a partial view of the beach. There's construction going on and there's a big building the blocks the view. We asked for a rollaway bed and it was there when we arrived. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The restroom is a bit odd. It has a huge, heavy door that you must slide back and forth when you have to go the bathroom or shower. It's very big, but I think it would have been nicer to have a door that shuts the toilet area off. The toiletries were the best. I loved the lavender scent and they weren't skimpy with them. The shower water pressure was adequate. I can't say the same about the sink water pressure. Sometimes it was a drip and sometimes a slow stream, but it always took forever to wash your hands. The mini bar has beer, water and soda. They have a nespresso machine and a tea kettle. I was very surprised they only gave us one mug to share between three of us while we were there. The pool was great. It's big and spacious. There's plenty of lounge chairs. They have waiter service. Pool towels are offered. There's a door that leads to the beach by the pool area. You need your key card to get in and out. Extras: - We waited 20 minutes for ice and it never came. No Ice machines available. - an iron and blow dryer are available in the room - the gym was excellent. Plenty of machines and treadmills. They offer towels and water. - a safe is available in the Room - the concierge was awesome. They helped me set up my driver and tour guide for day 1. Then they helped me buy train tickets to Christ the Redeemer. - If you want a snack or drink, they have a 24 hour store on the first floor. Do expect hotel prices. - we used Uber for everything since everything is so far away - they have Lounge chairs at the beach. They also have water available for you.

Yelp
A really great hotel with a friendly and supportive staff. The hotel is new and modern and even during a covid lock down the staff made sure we felt a minimal impact. They also do a good job taking care of their elites and special thanks to Denise and Felipe for taking such care of us! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Yelp
I stayed here in September and had a very nice time. The hotel is new in appearance but breaking down in many places. That being said, the staff was exceptional and went out of their way to solve problems (like my phone not working). I saw some reviews of the construction and out of the way location but I enjoy it being a little less crowded and the are a little less run down like Copacabana beach. I stayed elsewhere in my December trip but likely will be back to the Grand Hyatt the next one. Full disclosure, I was in a Oceanfront Suite in both and the room and balcony were very large. If it didn't have as many flaws as it has from wear and tear, I would have given it five stars for price and service. And a note to anyone, service is never fast in Rio. I recently stayed at the Fairmont Copacabana (doesn't exist on yelp) and it was more expensive. Copacabana isn't a great location and its spot on it is very loud with the historic port in front. The rooms were much smaller even at 50% more expensive and the food was very average.

Yelp
I have been to Rio de Janeiro over ten times, I love the city and lately I have been choosing Barra da Tijuca to stay. It is quieter, the beaches are broader and bigger, and the sea is much nicer than in Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon. Barra da Tijuca is perfect for families or people looking to rest and/or piece and quiet. This is the first time we stayed at the Grand Hyatt, as it is pretty new. The facilities and the staff were great. The hotel is very modern, with clean and spacious rooms, great bathroom, shower and tub. Wifi connection is great, the pool is very nice, and it is right across from the beach. Breakfast is really really good. There are 3 very good restaurants in the hotel, a terrace that overlooks the city, all rooms have balconies. Ours was facing the pool and the ocean. The spa and the gym were really good too! They offer you bikes for free for an hour. Of course we already know our way around Rio by heart, but if you are looking to hang out in the heart of the city most of the time, keep in mind that it could take you anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour fifteen to get to Copacabana or Ipanema on public transportation, or 20/25 minutes if you rent a car or take an UBER, which by the way works perfectly in Rio. As far as restaurants around the area, you have a few good ones, but of course, not as many as in the heart of Rio (Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon). There are a couple of shopping malls about 7 minutes by UBER. Also, for the adventurers, there are a couple of beaches close to this area that are hidden gems in Rio... most tourists don't go there: PRAINHA and JOATINGA. So if you are looking for piece and quiet and to enjoy the beach staying in a great hotel, this is a great choice.

Yelp
I don't even know what the bad reviews are for! This hotel is absolutely beautiful. I'm American and the room was only $44 USD a night and absolutely incredibly high standards. If this hotel was back in the states, it would be $500 a night easily. Stunning ocean views, the staff was very kind and accommodating, pool is gorgeous, hotel is massive and they have several great restaurants. The spa was WONDERFUL too. Highly recommend for any Americans visiting. Made my visit to rio an absolute DELIGHT!

Yelp
This is the nicest hotel I have stayed at in my life and I stay in hotels as part of my occupation. The hospitality is incredible, personal and not at all automated as most hotels. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. With an ocean view room I left the door open all night and slept to the sounds of he ocean.

Yelp
This was a FABULOUS experience! We wanted a great beach, and while a little far from Ipanema and Copacabana, Barra da Tijuca offered our favorite beach in Rio. Victor and the hotel staff, despite being a huge hotel, make us feel at home, and the room was OUTSTANDING, spacious, and beautiful. The fitness center was outstanding, and my only regret was not going to the spa. Don't be thrown off that this hotel in not in downtown Rio- the beach and amenities of the hotel are worth it for a perfect experience!

Yelp
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. I waited at the pool for over an hour trying to order drinks, we asked the waiter for a menu over 10 times and never got one they kept saying they didn't speak English when I'm brazillian and speak fluent Portuguese. We asked for a bucket of beer and the waiter said they didn't have any left when 10 minutes later I saw at least 10 buckets walk past me. Since they didn't have any beer buckets I asked for the champagne menu and never got one so I got fed up and asked to speak to the manager I waited for over 30 minutes and he never showed up so I had to go to the lobby and speak to the manager. I spent 2 hours trying to get this resolved. I live in Florida where hospitality is a big deal and this was one of the worst hotels I've stayed at. I understand that it is New Year's Eve and they are busy but it's Rio de Janeiro and Hyatt a hotel with over 500 rooms should be equipped and ready to handle an influx of guest at the pool. If they can't service that many people maybe they shouldn't book all the rooms.I'm surely never staying here again. The manager of the hotel did a great job at helping us get situated and even gave us a bottle on the house. The only good thing A about this hotel was he manager.
