"Drinks in the Clouds One of my highest recommendations for drinks is the Grand Hyatt Shanghai . The Grand Hyatt occupies the top 36 floors of the 88-story Jin Mao Tower in the Jetsons-looking Pudong district, so at sunset (or anytime) you have a stunning view (with no cover charge!) of all of Shanghai. There are lots of choices for eating and drinking in the Grand Hyatt. When I was there at sunset, nobody else was in the Cloud 9 sky lounge (which is like a night club with a 360-degree view from the 87th floor), so I went down to the 53rd-floor Lobby Lounge, which still seemed plenty high, and enjoyed the view and the cocktails there. Stunning Architecture, but Overall Overpriced Experience What I Loved Most: The building itself is absolutely breathtaking - both from the outside and the interior atrium. We also enjoyed access to the Club Lounge, where the view of the Bund and the Pearl Tower during the evening drinks was definitely a highlight (self-serve cocktails were a fun surprise😅). The room was spacious and clean, and breakfast was good. What I Didn’t Like: Our room, despite being upgraded, had a very strong cigarette smell that made it uncomfortable to stay in - it felt heavily smoked-in. The furnishings and equipment feel dated, and overall service fell short of expectations for a luxury hotel: limited English communication, no assistance with luggage, and no escort to the room. While the architecture is impressive, the experience as a whole felt overpriced, and I would choose a different hotel on my next visit.

The location is very nice, short distance to the subway with conmection to everywhere. High security standard for the hotel and parking garage. The rooms are a bit noisy, can hear the neighbours talking in the evening.my room keys were not working 3 times. Breakfast is offering a big variety of food but the coffee bar is slow and inefficient. For a Grand Huatt there is room for improvement when comparing with other Grand Hyatts.

Disappointing and overpriced. The service was poor with limited English and lack of professionalism that you’d expect at a 5 star hotel. The decor is old and the air conditioning did not work throughout the whole building. It felt hot and suffocating. We couldn’t wait to exit for fresh air. Location was ok with it being next to the Shanghai Tower but you’ll need to walk a fair distance to get to any good cafes or restaurants. The city views and nightlife are better on the other side of the river.

⭐ 1/5 – Very Disappointing Stay at Grand Hyatt Shanghai From the moment we arrived, our experience at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai was far below expectations for a world-class hotel. Arrival & Check-in: The porters at the entrance did not speak English, which made communication very difficult. For an international hotel of this reputation, English-speaking staff should be available to assist guests properly. The entrance itself felt dull and lacked the welcoming atmosphere you would expect. Upon taking the elevator to the 54th floor for check-in, we were met with more disappointment — the check-in staff also had limited English and showed little professionalism or courtesy. Room Experience: When we entered our room, we were shocked to find it outdated and poorly maintained. The room had an unpleasant odor, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. After just one night, my back was sore, which made the rest of the stay even more uncomfortable. Breakfast & Service: Breakfast was equally disappointing. There were not enough staff members to assist guests, and the service felt completely self-serve. If you didn’t already know where to find things, you were on your own. There were only two staff members at the bar serving coffee and tea, and even then, the coffee was made using automatic machines. For a hotel of this caliber, it’s unacceptable not to have a trained barista preparing quality espresso. Overall Impression: The entire stay was a major letdown — from poor communication and outdated rooms to lackluster service and amenities. Unfortunately, I would not recommend the Grand Hyatt Shanghai and consider it a very poor choice for anyone expecting true five-star standard

We stayed one night at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai and, unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations — particularly at the front desk. During check-in, we were not informed about the required deposit, the staff just swiped my credit card amount with the deposit. When I requested a refund and offered to pay the deposit in cash, the staff denied my request saying that no cash transaction in the hotel (it is illegal to refuse cash by law). Even after fully paying for the night and having the deposit refunded, we were abruptly told that we were not allowed to incur any additional expenses during our stay. The lack of clear communication and abrupt tone left us feeling unwelcome. Another disappointment was the overall attitude of some staff, who appeared to be more courteous and attentive toward guests who looked like business travelers, while those of us dressed casually or appearing as leisure guests received noticeably less respect. It left us with the impression that we were being looked down upon, which was quite disheartening. That said, the room itself was clean, spacious, and comfortable and definitely has a great view. However, the bathroom design — particularly the shower — was poor, with water splashing across the floor during use. In summary, while the room was up to standard, the service experience was not. This hotel seems more geared toward business travelers and may not be the best choice for those seeking a warm, leisure-friendly environment.

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai and the experience was unforgettable. The hotel's location is its first major selling point—it's situated inside the iconic Jin Mao Tower, a cornerstone of the Pudong skyline. Pudong itself is the banking district and a major global financial center.||||The most outstanding feature, without a doubt, is the view. My room offered a breathtaking, panoramic vista of the Huangpu River and the sprawling cityscape. Waking up to that sight and seeing it lit up at night was worth the price alone. It’s a perspective of Shanghai you simply can't get anywhere else.

Check-in and check-out procedures are completely straightforward, and you're required to pay a $1500 deposit? I've never seen anything like that in a 5-star hotel. Also, the furniture is old, and the toilet seat is outdated; it doesn't have the same water pressure as the one at the Shangri-La Hotel.

Had a horrendous experience with the check in staff. A warning that they will make you pay a 1000 RMB deposit per night of your stay. This is a scam, they waived it for the man next to us in check in when he refused. For us they said it was not possible and was only considered when we mentioned that we had overheard what had just happened with the other man. Then they ‘lost our payment’ on Alipay which the man had scanned and we showed the proof of payment. Then when confused at how the payment had gone through, was very rude and said they’d give us the room anyways even though they can’t find our payment as if it’s a favour to us and not a flaw in their system. They said they couldn’t even give us the deposit back considering they can’t even find our payment. So bad and anxiety inducing upon first arrival to what is supposedly a 5 star hotel. Have not been treated like this at any 5 star, the standard is so bad. Not to mention the sly upselling they will do for room upgrades, breakfast, club lounges and experiences. It’s too much.
