"Drinks in the Clouds One of my highest recommendations for drinks is the Grand Hyatt Shanghai . The Grand Hyatt occupies the top 36 floors of the 88-story Jin Mao Tower in the Jetsons-looking Pudong district, so at sunset (or anytime) you have a stunning view (with no cover charge!) of all of Shanghai. There are lots of choices for eating and drinking in the Grand Hyatt. When I was there at sunset, nobody else was in the Cloud 9 sky lounge (which is like a night club with a 360-degree view from the 87th floor), so I went down to the 53rd-floor Lobby Lounge, which still seemed plenty high, and enjoyed the view and the cocktails there. I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai and the experience was unforgettable. The hotel's location is its first major selling point—it's situated inside the iconic Jin Mao Tower, a cornerstone of the Pudong skyline. Pudong itself is the banking district and a major global financial center.||||The most outstanding feature, without a doubt, is the view. My room offered a breathtaking, panoramic vista of the Huangpu River and the sprawling cityscape. Waking up to that sight and seeing it lit up at night was worth the price alone. It’s a perspective of Shanghai you simply can't get anywhere else.

We stayed one night at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai and, unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations — particularly at the front desk. During check-in, we were not informed about the required deposit, the staff just swiped my credit card amount with the deposit. When I requested a refund and offered to pay the deposit in cash, the staff denied my request saying that no cash transaction in the hotel (it is illegal to refuse cash by law). Even after fully paying for the night and having the deposit refunded, we were abruptly told that we were not allowed to incur any additional expenses during our stay. The lack of clear communication and abrupt tone left us feeling unwelcome. Another disappointment was the overall attitude of some staff, who appeared to be more courteous and attentive toward guests who looked like business travelers, while those of us dressed casually or appearing as leisure guests received noticeably less respect. It left us with the impression that we were being looked down upon, which was quite disheartening. That said, the room itself was clean, spacious, and comfortable and definitely has a great view. However, the bathroom design — particularly the shower — was poor, with water splashing across the floor during use. In summary, while the room was up to standard, the service experience was not. This hotel seems more geared toward business travelers and may not be the best choice for those seeking a warm, leisure-friendly environment.

Nice enough hotel , i think the hotel is above offices and starts at the 50th ish floor, reception and dining is a few floors different , the view of the city from the top bar is superb would certainly recommended going up if its a nice day. ||Room was ok , shower, bath & plenty of bottles of water so all good. ||Food in the morning is split between western and authentic food , odd set up as you have to ask for coffee etc, but otherwise all ok . ||Was here solo on business , overall issues , and not bad …

Decent high-floor rooms with good views and quite central - although feels more for business than tourism. But honestly, it feels quite soulless and I wouldn’t return. Doesn’t feel very well equipped for English-speaking guests which is surprising given what you would expect with the brand. Ultimately, it was perfectly acceptable but not 5 star. Staff are polite with limited English, but very few smiles and certainly no going the extra mile. No replies to reception emails informing them that out flight was delayed. QR codes for ordering room service don’t work, giving 403 errors. Check-in desk staff member was mute when my wife arrived to check-in. But I arrived with the bags and he spoke good English with me. Such a huge difference from checking-in at the Mandarin Oriental in KL the week before. Ordering room service over the phone (QR code didn’t work) in English was extremely difficult. Our first attempt for breakfast I was put through to three different people the first time trying to order but was told the room service menu I was ordering from didn’t exist and I must have the restaurant menu. It was 100% room service but I just don’t think the staff knew the words in English. Someone was apparently going to come to our room to take our order but never arrived. Second time I ordered, I was very clear ordering a meal without an ingredient, which I prefer to avoid for ethical reasons. This was repeated back to me and re-confirmed. And yet it arrived with this ingredient. I called up to highlight this and spoke to the same member of staff who took the order and who remembered me - she was “going to check” but I never heard back. Check-out was also confusing as our room rates were not what we had booked, and taxes were called out on separate lines for some nights and merged into the room rate on other nights. All in, nothing was terrible - but we might as well have stayed in a serviced apartment or high-quality letting. While it is a 5-star building with super views, the experience was no better than a 2 or 3-star hotel.

The location is obviously incredible, and the rooms are absolutely beautiful. The service was however absolutely terrible! There are crazy long waiting times for everything: breakfast, check in (it took us almost one hour to check in!). The staff also is the rudest I've ever interacted with, everyone barely looked into our faces and constantly seemed annoyed to have to interact with us. Absolutely not a service worth of a 3 stars hotel, let alone a 5 stars one

Grand Hyatt Shanghai is a very nice property. It’s located right in one of the best areas. Having breakfast at floor 56 with Huangpu river view is incredible. Hotel staff is very friendly especially those working in the lounge such as Yan Lu. I am also grateful for another lady in the lounge who arranged to setup layaway bed. My only issue is that check in time is a bit long. Here the hotel staff was very nice for letting us check in in the lounge without asking whether we have lounge access or not.

Excellent location, service, and view. Room shows its age a bit and had a smaller than average TV. The shower is also a bit dated. However, the breakfast, staff, and club lounge were excellent. The view from our room was amazing. A truly great experience!

this is my second time coming here and I must say everything was great apart from the service. Typically, the service is great at these types of hotels, however, this time (possibly with new service workers), it wasn’t as pleasant. we began our stay by checking in, where the receptionists were whispering in each others ears and looking at us before assisting us, despite us standing right in front of them. once they took our passports, they began to flip through the pages with the country’s stamps from immigration for the country’s we’ve traveled to, and they started gossiping in Chinese, which i understood because i’m fluent in chinese despite being a “foreigner” because i grew up in china. they began asking each other which countries the stamps corresponded to and laughed together (?). they then asked if i would be happy with a room upgrade (ofc i said yes!) and they were like: “okay just pay the upgrade fee” (???????? 😭). Furthermore, when we wanted to go to the pool, we entered a room with a reception to ask where the pool was, and the receptionist (looking at us like we’re pieces of trash on the floor) pointed her finger outside the door, so we went. it lead us to the back door which lead straight to the pool, no changing rooms or anything, just the pool. we went back to the receptionist to ask for the changing rooms, and she pointed straight to our left, where the changing rooms were literally 2 meters away, as if that wasn’t what we were asking for in the first place???? then she asked if we had swimming caps, we said no (because last time we came, the receptionist lent us some) and she pulls out a swimming cap menu where we have to pay a minimum of 50 RMB for one cap. she said we have to buy one to enter the pool. i said that we were lent some last time we came, which was a few months ago, and she rolls her eyes and gives us some as if we were robbing her for money in the cash register 😭😭😭😭???????? the service was honestly terrible 😭. everything else was fine.
