So we came here while we were walking around Grand Marais. They have really clean porta Johns right by the coast guard house here and parking right before that. There is a large rock wall you can follow to the light house. There is a bunch of cool photo opportunities on this walk as you can see. There is a beach at the end with really great skipping rocks. There is another little area with trees and rocks to explore you will like. Ultimately this is a great area and you will enjoy this walk and the breeze off of the lake!

This is a very picturesque lighthouse. To get to the lighthouse there are uneven areas so watch your footing and narrow pathways where you'll want to walk single file and be careful when walking past others coming in the opposite direction. Not handicap accessible. There is a big parking lot with free parking or park on the street by the shops and walk down.

So glad we made the visit!! It was such a cool adventurous walk for us and the pups! There's lots of rocks and uneven ground, along with a narrow pathway to get to the lighthouse. But we had a great time hopping around and letting the pup explore. Just FYI, if older, or young be mindful of.... couldn't bring a stroller or anything like that.

A fun walk, not terribly difficult. No strollers or cane's tho. If you have trouble walking don't go.

Such an amazing venture right in town. We went to the light house one day, and went to the Artist's Point the other day. Both were easy, exciting excursions!

Beautiful scenery. I think its more enjoyable during summers. During this spring season, its really windy and cold 🥶. I couldn’t feel my hands and ears 👂when we got there. However, I’d still recommend it.

Yelp
All I can say is, take the hike out, it's worth it even on a cloudy day. You get the whole panoramic view of grand marais.

Yelp
Artist Point is a cool little tucked away overlook area offering sights around the waters of Grand Marais, Minnesota. And to be more specific, Grand Marais is situated right along wonderful North Shore Scenic Drive heading up the northeastern coast of the state. Grand Marais is a pleasant seaside town where you can stop for eating and lodging, or just simply taking a break from driving. And to find this, Artist Point, simply plug the name into Google Maps and you'll easily be guided here. For the most part, cell phone reception works fine along North Shore Scenic Drive and especially here in Grand Marais. You'll have no trouble finding this section. Upon parking in the lot, all you have to do is stroll on over to Artist Point and you'll be afforded beautiful background views of Grand Marais Harbor and the East Bay all within the bigger picture of Lake Superior. The fun aspect of Artist Point is that you can climb along the rocks and edge of the rugged shoreline to sort of immerse yourself in the fresh airs of Lake Superior. From the point, you can actually walk in either direction you choose, like your own exploring adventure without any hassles... Towards the left is where you can venture on the rocks with undisturbed views of the clear and colorful waters, especially on a sunny afternoon day. My best moments came from trudging about here and enjoying the calming setting. Towards the right, there's a cement pathway that'll lead towards the Grand Marais Lighthouse. I walked the entire way (1/3 of a mile) to the lighthouse where you'll have a nice photogenic opportunity with the lighthouse standing as the focal point within Grand Marais Harbor. Though when I was here about 5pm back over the summertime, I was looking into the sun which made for shadowy conditions unfortunately. Still, I recommend walking to the lighthouse regardless of the time of day. Overall, Artist Point is a good chance to simply roam around this coastal water section of Grand Marais. It took me about 45 minutes - 1 hour to hang out and appreciate the surroundings. And what I also liked was at any point in time while here, you can take a seat down (on either the rocks or the cement paving) and relax just admiring the soothing atmosphere. Artist Point, I'd say, is a worthwhile attraction and fun vista point spot symbolic for what makes the town of Grand Marais a picturesque stop along grand North Shore Scenic Drive.

Yelp
It's hard to rate nature. It's... natural. How do you improve on something like that? Still, there are some places that just "feel" better than others. They calm it excite... in this case, inspire. Perhaps justifying the term "artist's point" - I suppose. I've come here many times to shoot the sky or the water, catch the perfect shot, sometimes just to reset myself... get back to me. The town itself has a touristy vibe - too many sandwich shops and souvenirs. Cross the street and soak up what nature is selling. You'll understand WHY the tourists come & why the local stay. Maybe you'll even discover your inner artist.

Yelp
It is hard to put into words the beauty of being in the middle of the lake and seeing the town from a distance. You get a real scope of how large the lake is and how beautiful it can be. It is a bit of a hike out, and the terrain can be rough over the areas with rocks off the breakwall, but it is so worth the hike out to the lighthouse. It's really a must stop!!! On calm days you can see the lake floor that have to be over 30 feet down.

Yelp
This was one of our favorite stops on the north shore. And let me just say I am so incredibly glad we got up super early and went when we did. Because, although this place is gorgeous and perfect with amazing views and just a great "feeling" about it (and such a nice, easy walk overall) the hoards of tourists that descended on this place starting around 8 am was absurd for off season and such a cold morning. And it totally ruined the atmosphere. The walkway to the lighthouse isn't big - one person walking one way comfortably. So when more and more people started to arrive I was thankful we were on our way out. This is a location that makes you crave solitude. Not the company of tons of other tourists. Get up before first light and go - you'll be glad you did. Also, the little island just off to the left of the trail is well worth exploring as well. Be careful if it's been raining - things get slippery. Deserves five stars but only gets four because of being overcrowded.

Yelp
Absolutely a must pit stop. It's gorgeous even in the cold. It can get a bit overcrowded midday but the walk in the causeway to the lighthouse is pretty kid friendly. I'd say kids younger than 5 may need extra supervision since there are rope handles only in some areas in the way to the light house. Perfect for pictures and an adventure. The beach on the other side of the light house is absolutely stunning as well. I have never seen Lake Superior so blue in my 8 years of visiting. It was so blue, I saw rocks at the bottom clear as day! Will definitely be returning for more photo fun in the future!

Yelp
stopped by for a burger a couple of days ago and they didn't have burgers, pretty big disappointment. turns out they didn't even have any food but it still was a nice looking place.
