I stayed at the Grand Margherita Hotel in Kuching for a two-day, one-night work workshop. The hotel is conveniently located along the banks of the Sarawak River, with its main entrance facing the city’s famous Cat Statue and another exit leading directly into Sarawak Plaza, a shopping mall. The check-in counter is set slightly further inside, while the concierge desk is positioned near the entrance. The location is excellent—surrounded by restaurants, tourist spots, and other essential conveniences.
I arrived early in the morning and immediately attended the workshop, so I requested an early check-in, about an hour ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, the room wasn’t ready yet as it was still being cleaned, which was understandable. However, there was a bit of confusion during the check-in process, leading to some minor tension among the staff—perhaps due to fatigue on both sides.
Once I settled in, the room itself was comfortable overall. Some furniture, however, showed visible signs of wear. The writing desk and chair were slightly unstable, and the bedside drawer couldn’t close properly. Aside from that, everything else was fine, and the river-view room offered a serene and relaxing atmosphere.
The restaurant offered a decent spread of food that was tasty and satisfying, though the selection could feel a little limited. Parking is somewhat tight and located mainly outdoors, using a cashless system that scans license plates. Fortunately, hotel guests can get a parking exemption by providing their room number.
All in all, it was a good stay—comfortable and convenient for a work trip. The highlight is really the hotel’s location, which offers easy access to Kuching’s riverside area and nearby attractions.
