Grand Mercure Shanghai Century Park (Shanghai, China) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Architects love China. Here the big cities are growing so fast, they’re like an R&D lab for innovations in architecture. Over here even the most traditional hotel chains have embraced a certain modernity of design, an emphasis on the aesthetic that might not go down so easily in another locale. All of this is by way of an explanation for how, for instance, a Radisson in Shanghai ends up looking as striking as the Radisson Hotel Pudong Century Park." - Tablet Hotels

**"The hotel itself was excellent—clean, quiet, and very comfortable. However, I had a horrible experience with the massage service. The hotel advertised one price, but when the masseuse arrived, they refused to honor it and demanded extra payment, which I did not agree to. The so-called '1-hour massage' lasted only 50 minutes, was rude, unprofessional, and far below standard—especially for the high price. I believe the masseuse had experience, but the service was terrible. I felt completely scammed, like I wasted my money. In the end, I had to pay just to get rid of them, and the masseuse was also very difficult to communicate with."**

I had a great stay at Grand Mercure Century Park during my business trip to Shanghai. Rick and Kenzou were very friendly, helpful and professional. The food was good, and I even got a custom suit made at Bundtailor in the lobby—highly convenient and well done. A smooth, comfortable experience overall.

Honestly, this place is a dump. I don't know how it has a 4.2 on google or is priced at nearly $150 USD/night. The lobby is fine, but then as soon as you get into the halls, you can see the disrepair. Smelly, thrashed, stained, old, filthy carpets. It doesn't even seem like they bother to vacuum this entire hotel. We first got checked into a room that reeked of cigarette smoke (this is listed as a smoke free hotel, which is why we booked here!). The door to our room was literally falling off its hinges. We asked to move. The new room was marginally better, but still smelly and dirty. Someone also clearly smoked in the room, but luckily it aired out after a couple of days. The biggest issue for us was that the privacy screen for the bathroom was broken and wouldn't roll down, so literally zero privacy when using the bathroom! We didn't want to be a pain for the young staff and keep moving (to potentially worse) rooms though, so we sucked it up. Also they never acknowledged our gold status with accor or granted us the benefits of it. My reservation info has also magically disappeared after our stay in the accor system, even with the confirmation number. Points and status days not awarded during the stated window. I can't even access my receipt for my stay. (Accor group hotels have been such a disappointment for us though, I don't think we'll be staying at one again anyways.) The pros? Convenient access to the convention center, convenience stores, and thumb plaza. Bed comfort ok. I felt safe here (other than my health). It was also quiet at night, so I will give it that much.

Have been staying at this hotel for 1 month. The hotel is located next to metro line 9 which is convenient. There are 2 malls next to the hotel. The room is spacious and has a separated shower/bathtub. The service provided is up to the expectations. Recommand it to travellers.

The staff were very friendly and helpful to us everytime we needed something. The bedroom was spacious and well equipped, completely suitable for work.|Also the breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of international and local dishes.

I was travelling for work so chose this hotel, i was pleasantly happy when i was awarded a free upgrade into a suite. The location i was going was less than 2Km away so it was easy to get around. The staff were friendly and helpful, i would recommend a stay at this hotel.

I chose this hotel because I am familiar with the area, have stayed in it before and it is cheaper than staying downtown, while close to subway line 9. The room was, as before, very spacious, quiet and comfortable (except the sofa). I like the provision of a multi socket adaptor on the desk. The quantity of teabags provided (2 per day) is far too small! The wifi is so-so and not always accessible, especially not in the restaurant. Breakfast is also so-so. Fried eggs were cold and overcooked. The bread (unsliced loaf) was stale. The elevator card reader did not always work well. The lobby looks tired and uninviting, indeed the hotel needs a face lift. Check in and check out service is OK. The doorman seemed bored! The mall in which the hotel is located (Thumb Plaza - I have known it for a decade) is dying, so it may be difficult for this hotel to survive despite its relative proximity to the exhibition center

Great little hotel close to one of the Thumb Plazas. The thumb plaza is a little run down, but that has no affect on the hotel and there are still Chinese and Western food options nearby. Little swimming pool (looked nice but didn't bring trunks). Comfortable bed. The air-conditioning didn't go as low as I like, but that is typical for many hotels in Shanghai. Definitely a hotel I would stay at again.
