Grand Mercure Shanghai Century Park Hotel

This is an aged hotel and absolutely not worthy of a 5-star rating. We booked through ALL, yet nowhere on the booking page was it disclosed that the hotel is under renovation. The front of the hotel is fenced off and extremely dusty due to construction. The outdoor pool is unavailable because it is winter, and the sauna is completely out of service as it is being used to store renovation materials. Our real nightmare was the room air-conditioning. The room was unbearably hot. The hotel first sent a staff member to adjust the temperature, but nothing improved. After we made a formal complaint, they eventually sent an electrician. His device showed that the air coming out of the vent was 38°C, and he attempted to fix it. We were told the issue was resolved, but after another 20 minutes, the temperature remained unchanged. The hotel then offered us a fan. This is unacceptable—especially when the outside temperature in Shanghai was -1°C at night. We had no choice but to turn off the air-conditioner, open the window, and use the fan just to cool the room. We are travelling with children and it is already very late; otherwise, we would have changed hotels immediately. This experience is far below 5-star standards and the worst ALL stay we have ever had. Avoid this hotel.

Located just walking distance from century park. Room is very spacious and it’s clean and comfortable. Cleaning service is good. The gym is a bit small for the size of this hotel. The breakfast has good options of both western and Chinese food. Service is good. Their lunch set is also very nice and cheap for the service and food received, and the restaurant is basically very quiet if not during breakfast hour.

The hotel was clean and conveniently close to the exhibition hall; the shuttle bus was very practical. We received amazing service, especially from PR Manager Zhou Kang, who was incredibly helpful. He personally accompanied and assisted us every day to ensure we had absolutely everything we needed.

Location is very near to expo. Perfect for business travellers attending any convention at the Expo. It is easy to get food nearby the hotel. There is a also new supermarket opened at the Thumb Plaza next to the hotel.

Very nice hotel close to the Central Park. We had issues with the room type booked, but it was quickly resolved by the staff and we got room that we wanted. Room was clean and spacious. Would come back again.

Great hotel, with a friendly and always smiling team. Not the newest, but amazing value, especially because of the large, very clean rooms, and the amazing pool. Good malls with lots of food options and a supermarket nearby. Would definitely stay again, as I really felt welcome.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 days for work, it is well located compared to the SNIEC. Service is great and international, we were well treated by the attentive staff. Will come back in the future to visit Shanghai a little more.

I attended a company event last month, and Manager Zhou was exceptionally helpful with all of my requests. His fluent English made communication seamless. I highly recommend this hotel for its convenient location, comfortable rooms, and excellent service.
