Yelp
This gorgeous property is off the beaten path (30 min north of Cancun) and if you are looking for a quiet place, this is definitely the place to stay at.
Make sure when booking excursions, that they can pick you up and drop you off at the property. we read that a taxi can be quite costly to get to a pre-arranged pick-up spot.
We booked a package through Costco that took care of airport transportation which went flawless. The transport was via the reliable BD Experience and they had a counter at the hotel as well if you wanted to book excursions.
The beach, the rooms, the design of the property and the inside of the restaurants are very, very nice. We stayed in a Junior Suite and were upgraded to an ocean view (building 11). The room is very comfortable with a good AC.
The food options left a lot to be desired and were a hit or miss. Yet we didn't hear of any other all-inclusive places that were much better from veteran all-inclusive travelers, whom we met during our stay. The Japanese restaurant (Sumptuori) was a win, we tried both the a la carte and the hibachi. The Poseidon lunch buffet was also a win (Tip, Poseidon has an upstairs sit down restaurant for lunch with the most amazing ocean view, you must make reservations for this but the food is not good). The breakfast buffet was plentiful, and you could always find something that would like. The other restaurants were iffy. Some items were OK, some items were just plain gross. We were there for 8 days, so we were able to try everything that was open. One day the El Dorado steak house was really bad, 2 days later it was excellent. So, a lot depends on the cook of the day, we think. The Mexican restaurant (La Adelita) was OK - you find much better Mexican food in the States. Portofino, the Italian, was our least favorite. Stay away from the food at Xtra Time (Sports Bar). Overall, we give the food a 3/5 rating.
The friendly staff was remarkable (5/5 rating). Please tip these hard-working people. We saw so many people not tipping. Even a buck isn't going to break you for every time you ride the golf cart or get a drink from the bar. The oversized golf carts were so convenient and made travelling around the property during the hottest parts of the day a breeze. We wanted especially thank our concierge, Ronie, whom made our stay flawless. She booked all restaurant reservations, covid test, answered all our questions, plus she called us every day and made sure a golf cart was waiting for us to pick us up for dinner from the room. Also Martin, the waiter at the breakfast buffet and at Poseidon, was excellent - he made sure that we were taken care of even when we were not sitting at his table. Every single employee greets you, gardeners, cart drivers, housekeeping, wait staff....everybody smiles and says "Buenos Dias/Noches, Hola"
Lots of pools to choose from, the beach was clean and not crowded at all (Yes there is wait staff and a bar at the beach). Each pool also has a bar with a great selection. We did not feel it would be worth it to upgrade to TRS.
They do an excellent job of keeping the insects down, but just you know, that involves some heavy fogging.
As mentioned before, while we were there, we met a lot of people who do all-inclusive Mexico resorts and they all agree that this one is better than most, though the food is a hit or miss
A few complaints: the water in the shower smells terrible. We read a lot of complaints about Mexican resorts having that smell, because of the drains apparently - it smelled kind of like sulfur. Of course, this depends on how sensitive to smells you are. The pool waters are also a little on the too warm side for us
Calling for drinks for minibar doesn't work. They say they will, but it never happens
Though we never used the room service, since we are not a fan of paying another $10 delivery fee for an all-inclusive resort, we heard it's terrible and takes forever (since the food comes from the Sports Bar apparently). Be aware that none of the food places will let you take food away with you.
The Zentropia Spa was excellent, the nicest one that we have ever been to.
Yes, everything required reservations, but that really didn't really bother us. We had to change it a few times, and it was never an issue. It's eventually up to you to follow up and through with things.
MAKE SURE TO:
-make the reservation for your Covid test or go to the concierge desk to do so. Don't forget to pick up the results because you need those at the airport.
-book reservations if you want to eat in a restaurant, book these as early as you can
-visit Piacere, the coffee place. Delicious coffees and deserts
-bring lots of sunscreen because it is outrageously priced at all resorts
-bring inflatables for the pool
-take care of the staff, as they were all amazing
Lastly, we wanted to recommend My Quest Concierge Private Tours. We booked our private Chichen Itza tour with them and our driver/guide Manuel was the BEST! This was truly the best excursion
