We came after the lunch rush and ordered the sesame chicken and chicken fried rice. The sesame was juicy and sweet in a way that was just what the palate ordered.

Really enjoyed this Chelsea staple, but a spot that hasn't lost its sparkle. This is very good Sichuan food. Not the best you will ever have, but still very good. Loads of authenticity in the menu, with fish taking a prominent place amongst a lot of options. They also have all your standard US-Cantonese American dishes. Our selections were a Spicy Fish with Bean Curd Flower, sauteed Pea Shoots with Garlic, and Pumpkin with Scallions and Ginger.

Used to be one of the highest rated Sichuan restaurants in the country. The food was excellent! NOT ANYMORE! Hot & sour soup was like glue and inedible. Had to throw it out. Orange chicken that used to be amazing, dry as a bone, flavorless. Prices went up, quality went down. And very unfriendly service to boot. The simple Chinese takeout Golden Wok a few blocks up has surprisingly surpassed them now in much better food.

A door to the world of Sichuan cuisine in Manhattan As a remote lover of Sichuan cuisine, you know all these Youtube foodies, right?, I was eager to visit sooner or later Sichuan place. This redtaurant is called Grand Sichuan Eastern and it is located Greenwich Village part of Manhattan. This Chinese place won me over with its delicious food, attentive service, and reasonable prices. It has simple yet tasteful decor, featuring geometric patterns on the walls and a few traditional masks and hanging fish figures. Nothing screams that this is a Chinese place, without feeling overbearing. Just hints. The vast menu was impressive, boasting a wide variety of Sichuan dishes. Vast means there are 278 separate dishes, I kid you not! The spiciness of each dish was conveniently marked by pepper images, making it easy to choose something to suit our preferences. Our first dish was the pork soup dumplings, which were loaded with broth and expertly crafted. You bite one side of the dumpling and fill it with vinegar sauce - this gives a whole new dimension to the range of dumpling tastes. The juicy and flavorful dumplings were an instant hit. Next up was the Sichuan wonton with red oil, which we ordered with a spiciness level of one pepper. Although it wasn't particularly spicy, it still had a pleasant kick to it. The dish was more like a soup, with a generous amount of broth in the soup plate. My daughter opted for the crispy salted and pepper prawns. Although there was a slight mix-up with our order, the dish we received was delicious, featuring big, juicy prawns served with a healthy portion of vegetable salad and a bowl of rice. The lunch for three, including sodas, came to about $60, which I found quite reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. It's worth noting that the restaurant only accepts cash or debit cards. I highly recommend Grand Sichuan Eastern for anyone looking to explore Sichuan cuisine. Even if you're not a fan of spicy dishes, you'll find plenty of options to suit your taste buds. Don't miss out on this not so hidden gem in Manhattan!

I really enjoyed a lot about this place as it’s a clean and peaceful environment, the staff was pretty nice, and the food was absolutely tasty! I was stunned though that I had to pay a bit extra than expected for using an ATM card, but at least it wasn’t too expensive. I’m only around this area occasionally, but sometimes if I have the budget and craving Chinese food I come here and I could recommend this place for many others.

I took a chance on this place and I'm so glad I did. There aren't a lot of good, authentic Szechuan places in the city, but this one checks all the boxes, plus a few extra. I love that they advise they can make anything as spicy as you like, and don't give you that skeptical look that you might not be able to handle it. I told them to light me up and they did. Portions are huge; my meal could have easily been shared by 2, but I am a lonely, hungry gal so it suited me just fine. Very vegetarian friendly; I can't stress this enough. Whereas most places I only have 1 or two dishes to chose from, this place had several including the chef's selection/specialties menu. I felt very seen. I'll come back for sure; a true hidden and tasty gem!

The food is quite good, authentic western Sichuan style. Prices and portion of food are fair. Clean dinning environment , nice setting, friendly staff and quite atmosphere also enhance the overall dinning experience. Will be back again.

Good local spot. The food is ok and the service is fair. Handicapped accessible entrance and seating. Unisex restrooms are available. Conveniently located in the Chelsea district and easily accessible by train, bus or walking. Street parking is available. Oh, by the way, my friend got food poisoning after eating here with me.....

This is just a neighborhood joint (with a "B" clean rating). MUST ORDER HERE: the cold sesame noodles and the scallion pancake. Those were the highlights for me. I used to live in NYC and cold peanut (or sesame) noodles were on every Chinese menu in the city. Weird that I have never seen them anywhere in San Francisco (or Dallas). They were just scrumptious, and I plan on making them with some grilled chicken next week for a dinner party. I would have liked some chopped scallions on top here, but this place is kinda "no frills". The scallion pancake was nice and crispy, maybe a little oily, but still excellent. Two friends and I split the noodles, the pancake, the mu shu pork and the General Tso's chicken. It all came out pretty fast. Strange too, that no chopsticks were offered.

I've eaten here before, before the pandemic, it was decent. But randomly returning for the same dish which is sub par. I ordered the general tso tofu, it wasn't firm like usual. They must've used all their form tofu and used medium. The breading was convincing but tofu too soft. I still ate the meal since I was semi hungry. Disappointed in consistency. Water closet located next to register. I most likely won't eat here any time soon.

The kitchen is poorly managed. Food is ahh. Service staff nice. Dining area is traditional

We were in the area recently and were craving Chinese food and after reviewing the menu we decided to give this place a shot. The server was attentive and friendly throughout our time there. Having been a bit dehydrated from all of our walking, I'm sure she got sick of filling our water glasses but she still did it repeatedly. We ordered the vegetable spring roll appetizer and were a bit put off by the presentation. First, there was only one roll (we are used to getting two spring rolls - or one egg roll - in an order). Secondly, rather than a small dish of dipping sauce, we received two packets of duck sauce. Did we order takeout or dine in? The hot & sour soup was ok. For entrees, we ordered Gen Tso chicken and an eggplant dish. The eggplant was tasty. The Gen Tso was okay, but it was really sweet (not such a good thing) though the hot peppers were really hot (a good thing). Unfortunately, there were no condiments on the table (soy sauce, ponzu sauce, mustard, duck sauce, chili sauce) and we really missed their presence. What would've been a 3/5 experience, however, was reduced by the ending. We had leftovers and requested two small boxes so we could package them. Rather than bring boxes to us, the server took our plates into the back to package the leftovers for us - a nice, but unnecessary, gesture. Unfortunately, when we returned home and wanted to eat our leftovers, we found that she had not packaged all of the food on our plates. Infuriating. Would not return, if for no other reason than the missing leftovers.

Surprisingly disappointing - bad aftertaste in the General Tso's chicken. Will not be back.

We got a few different dishes to split family style- the eggplant, the stir fried chicken with hot chili peppers, and the sweet and sour shrimp. The food is definitely Chinese American- it didn't taste like authentic Szechuan food in my opinion. The good- the eggplant was really well made! It was sweet and tender and had so much flavor in it. If I could swap out half my plate with this, I'd be happy. The shrimp was SO heavily breaded. If you can dig past the layers and layers of breading, the shrimp inside is actually well cooked. Unfortunately, the breading is so thick it was virtually all I could taste. The chicken was strange. It was coated and tossed in a wok but the chicken was so diced up it was hard to taste any cubes of meat. It was mostly very dry in flavor. Service was quick and there weren't too many people inside so good for a casual bite.

A few weeks ago much to our chagrin our regular Grand Sichuan (have no idea if they are affiliated) was closed a few blocks away. So we decided to walk along 8th avenue until we found another Chinese or Schezuan restaurant of greater or equal merit. We did a double take and found this spot. Not quite the same but very similar to the other place we usually go to. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe the multi-colored lights and more modernistic feel instead of old school traditional. Or just a less welcoming presence when entering. A few language barrier issues with ordering. But it just wasn't the same. I also had massive diarrhea immediately after and immediately after I ate my leftovers for lunch the next day. It's too much info, I know. What's wrong with you Ingrid. But the more you know, probably the better. Things I appreciate: Colorful images in the never-ending menu of options. I love finding out what I'm eating before I receive it when I'm unsure of myself. But I was pretty sure and we both ordered spring rolls ($3 per itty bitty tiny roll), pork soup dumplings, wonton soup for him. I think he ordered Hunan chicken but I could be confused. It was way too spicy and I don't think he was thrilled over it. I ordered a typo. Awkward silence. I was curious under the noodle section but the Pai Tai Noodle is basically saucy and slightly sweeter than normal Pad Thai. Not sure if it's just spelled differently within the culture and cuisine but it wasn't bad. It just didn't sit well. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the soup dumplings. I still think other Grand Sichuan is infinite amounts better. But when in a pinch and your favorite Chinese restaurant is closed, this will suffice. I guess.

So friendly fresh and delicious! Pipping hot! We went for lunch yesterday and had the epic general tsos chicken and the. Bok choi as 2 lunch specials. So hot and delicious. Minimal breading and great chunks of white meat chicken. Perfect bok choi as well. We loved it!

I made my order on Delivery.com. It was truly amazing. I've ordered here about 3 times so far and all of the times where really consistent which I am grateful for. I can't really speak on their service being that I've never been there before; however the delivery person was nice and respectful and I felt him smile through his mask (: again Service and ambiance are two categories that will be difficult for me to to speak on but looking at the pictures on yelp and waking past here all of the time I'm comfortable with what I saw. Okay so let's talk more about what I ate: Lo mein with chicken: 10/10 totally reminded me of when I was younger. It was amazing! The Fried rice that came with the lunch special (egg and peas) : 6/10 I wish the "fried rice" was more fried then white rice with egg and peas in it I wanted to taste the wok and I didn't taste that here giving it a 6. The ribs: 10/10 AMAZING The veg hot and sour soup: meh it was okay. I would give it 5/10 but I wasn't complying it was free and filling ‍ Last but not least I got the sesame chicken and it was okay: 7/10 I will also say this place is extremely pricy. The ribs were 17.95 and the lunch was 12.95 I felt like the ribs would have been 12 dollars (which they were about 5 months ago and they just slapped on 6/7 dollars and added small and large sizes when it was just spare ribs and that was it) and the lunch could have been 9.95 but that's just me. I hope this review helps you decide :)

Food. I love their eggplant with fish fillet. Hits the spot every time. Service: reasonable wait time. Polite and friendly staff. Ambience: quiet and clean.

Been going here and ordering from here for years. The quality is consistent, and there's a great mix of authentic and Chinese American classics. Go for the Chong Qing chicken if you're looking for a lightly fried, sichuan spiced dish. It's the best I've had in the city. Double cooked pork and green beans are also great options. Prices are affordable and the staff is very friendly.

It's such a nice restaurant in a great location. The foods are authentic and yummy. I especially like the additional veggies they add. The only reason I would reduce one star is that their waiters chat pretty loudly. If you want very quiet place then this place is not for you

I live in San Francisco and visit NYC often and ordered Sunday evening delivery of 4 dishes which 2 were not up to par.. The Vegetarian dumplings/potstickers are the WORST I've ever had: nice filling but with tough gooey gluey dough which is not how this dish is to be. We tossed it all in the sink and then the Beef with green beans dish is another interesting issue: best green beens ever! BUT let's talk about the beef being so tough that a steak knife could not cut it -so, into the sink it went too, Come on folks, deliver some quality food at your prices please. Would be lovely if the restaurant responds

Terrible. These people don't care. Go somewhere else. Went for lunch and will never go back and I regret not going a few blocks further for better food. First issue, the woman working behind the counter was on her phone the entire time I was in the restaurant. She was so rude and had her phone blasting on speaker while she sat on hold with some customer service line! I couldn't believe it. I finally told my server it was annoying and she lowered it slightly, but kept it on speaker. She couldn't care less about the people dining. Soup dumplings were not tasty or fresh. Not enjoyable at all. Trader Joe's does better. Add insult to injury, I was overcharged for my food. Showed the server my bill and the menu and he acknowledged that the price I was charged was higher, but he had the nerve to say "but that's what's in the computer" without offering to fix it.

Reasonable price + really tasty food = 5 stars! I've been here several times and it never let me down. If you are looking for some spicy Chinese food, then here is where you should go. The owner and servers are attentive and considerate. Menu options are countless. Portions are laaaarge! Great for party and family dinner. I ordered stir fry string beans and spicy diced chicken, very good!

Terrible experience. We ordered shrimp fried rice and shrimp and broccoli to go. I have never seen white shrimp fried Chinese rice. It was honestly the worst shrimp fried rice my husband or I have ever had. We paid $30 for two small orders and it was not worth it. The shrimp and broccoli gravy reminded me to gravy used in American dishes. I do not recommend this place at all. Parking is street metered parking.

Ordered pork dumplings and spicy chicken w Chinese broccoli. Delivery through Grubhub. This was by far the worst food I've ever eaten in NYC (not just Chinese or Asian). I fail to understand how this place has a 3-star rating. Dumplings were made of flour like play dough; they were more like burritos (no disrespect to Mexican food). The meat inside was very dry and tasteless. The chicken felt like rubber and the sauce was ALL SALT. There was zero flavor, leave alone spicy. We threw everything into the garbage. A completely horrendous Sunday dinner. Oh and yeah, I cooked mildly spicy food and ate that after, so I know I haven't lost my taste or got COVID.

Definitely needs to be managed better went in one time to have a meal and the lady who was my server was very quiet and didn't speak much to me and I didn't mind it to be honest the issue was the payment. I give my card and I see it come back with tip already included my meal was 16 and I usually always leave a tip In cash and for her to just automatically assume I wanted to leave a tip on my card was completely unprofessional. Told her about the charge and she angrily went to go remove it. I came back today to give it one last chance and she told me I couldn't sit if I wasn't going to give her a tip. Basically if you wanna sit you need to give me a tip. What kind of service are they running ? Definitely never saw myself giving a review in my life but here I Am

Best soup dumplings in NYC. Also love the beef/broccoli and the ginger/scallion beef. And you can always get a table. Love this place. Great for takeout too.

I got takeout for lunch here since I live a block away. Based on the reviews, I wasn't expecting much. It was soo hot outside and I was starving though, so I just wanted something quick and easy. I ended up getting the double cooked pork and beef with broccoli lunch specials. The lunch specials are a decent deal, you get a dish + soup/egg roll + rice for ~$8-10. They prepared my food really fast after I ordered takeout at the register (under 10 minutes) which was clutch. I'd say this place is pretty american-Chinese-y. Very greasy, salty, and simple. Serving size was average for a lunch special. I was pleasantly surprised with it to be honest, I think it's just necessary to recognize it for what it is. This place is not that authentic (or maybe their takeout options aren't?), but it's decent for Americanized Chinese food. Definitely did the job for me! The beef with broccoli was pretty classic and I liked the double cooked pork a lot. There was a nice char on the pork, and the flavors were tasty. Both dishes were very greasy though lol. I'd probably come here again if I really didn't want to walk far / pay a delivery fee for something better.

Ugh I order delivery from here and I always forget how gross their soup dumplings are!! The dough is suuuuuper thick and gross and the filling tastes different and they always come busted. Even the black vinegar sauce tastes diluted. Don't order soup dumplings from here

Grand Sichuan offers your standard Sichuan cuisine with fast service though prices are a little higher given the midtown location. I came with a party of four on a Tuesday night at 8pm and there was no wait. We got traditional dishes like mapo tofu, Chongqing chicken, dan dan noodles, and pork with preserved veggies. I really like the dan dan noodles with it's unexpected level of spiciness when you mix it with the sauce. The noodles are thinner but still chewy and there is some bokchoy to go with the dish. Though you'll probably be chugging water after from the salt content, you'll also be pleased to leave with the persistent numbness from the peppercorn and overall authentic flavors of the dishes.

I feel like this place is more of a fusion restaurant. They have traditional szichuan food with also the "Americanized" Chinese foods too. As a result, I feel that either one might lack their full potential. HOWEVER, the szichuan food I had (which is why I came, not for the Americanized foods) was pretty good. It's also pretty expensive too though. The total meal or two entrees and one appetizer was about $50-60. Tldr; good food for a fusion place-- pretty pricey though

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! I was walking by and saw this cute little place, so I stopped in for a quick lunch. I am so glad that I did. This place actually made me extremely happy! The interior of this place was welcoming and clean. I am a big fan of the masks hanging on the wall. Tgey are super colorful. I checked out the lunch menu. There were so many options! It was hard to decide, but I managed. I decided to go with the orange chicken with vegetable fried rice and a spring roll. I also ordered a can of coke to go with it. My server was very friendly and helped me make a discision. When the spring roll came out, I realized that it was alittle different from most of the other spring rolls that I've had. It wasn't greasy which I was very thankful for. When I bit into the orange chicken, there was so much flavor to it. The Orange chicken came with broccoli and red papers which gave the plate good color. I went to taste the fried rice and that made me happy as well. It wasn't soaked in oil. It actually tasted much better then other fried rice that I've had. I usually avoid fried rice all together but this was really good! Id deffinatly order it again. I've found my new go to for a quick Chinese lunch in Chelsea! It's yummy!

Arrived at closing time, and was told we could order take out food. We ordered 2 dishes - one chicken and one shrimp, as well as 2 kinds of dumplings to go. When we got home and tried to eat the food, we found that there was a bad taste due to the food being spoiled and not wanting to get food poisoning, we threw the food out!

Lunch here is reasonably priced. The General Tso Chicken was good. I was expecting it to be more spicy, since it said on the menu that it would be. Instead it was very mild. I got wonton soup with my order and it also tasted good. The portion sizes were adequate, and left us feeling satisfied and full. This restaurant may not have the best Chinese food, but it's satisfactory. Our server was polite and attentive. I would also recommend this place for grabbing a quick bite for lunch, as it was not very busy when we went in.

Didnt think a chinese restaurant could mess up fried rice but here we are. Got the shrimp fried rice and they did not de vein. Sadly realized this with not much food left on my plate

1. Seated immediately at 1:15 PM. 2 .Given water and regular menu. 3. I asked if the lunch menu was available today. 4. Handed lunch menu. 5. Ordered vegetarian hot and sour soup (according to menu it was vegetarian) and chicken with garlic sauce with brown rice. 6.Given soup within 3 minutes. 7. Within 5 minutes. After getting soup and beginning to enjoy it my entree arrived. 8. The chicken with garlic sauce had boneless chicken breast cut thinly and in small pieces 9. The entree also had whole white mushrooms and clouds ear mushrooms and white onion pieces. 10. The rice was served in a separated bowl. 11. The entree was sufficiently hot so I didn't ask for pepper sauce 12. The sauce for the chicken had some sweetness a lot of heat and a blend of spices (spice and heat are not the same)

Absolutely terrible service. Waitress came came and went. Drop food off, now tossed food at us. I hadn't even finished my Prosecco before she came right back and said are you done before taking away the folly out what the signed receipt. Not recommended whatsoever. Food was marginal. Save yourself the trouble and go someplace else. Food is overpriced.

+1 for delivery speed. food was barely edible, i almost felt like i was putting poison into my body. they use the worst quality ingredients. either it was stuff that was left over from cooking other dishes or mushy fish that definitely came out of infected waters in vietnam. these people have 0 respect for food, avoid.

Just stopped in for a quick bite and got the general tso's chicken. It was definitely overpriced at around $20 and wasn't very tasty. The restaurant was mostly empty though so service was quick. The fortune cookies are also the least tasty I've had in my life. Overall, there are better and cheaper options nearby.

it was so mid. i ordered the general tso's chicken lunch special and not only did i get 8 pieces of chicken max, but the sauce was basically just watered down ketchup. i was not a fan and i don't think i'll ever be a patron here ever again.

Highly disappointed. I ordered the curry chicken and received 5 pieces of chicken maximum. The rest of the order was filled with vegetables. The curry chicken didn't taste like curry at all. The lady at the cashier was very rude and seem annoyed taking my order.

I ordered from this place and now I'm so hungry and disappointed. I asked for a spoon/chopstick (twice in order) and I didn't get any. Food is tasteless, chicken has the same taste as noodles, noodles as soups, soup as dumplings... no matter what are you eating is the same taste. No soy source was added on the side. Wonton soup is like dumplings with little soup. Sour and bitter vegetable soup has no taste and maybe has chicken (not sure). Lo main worst ever. Vegetable dumplings are slimy and tasteless. Well, my first and the last mistake with this restaurant.

"This is not you normal chinese restaurant" If you are looking for cheap chinese take type food, this is NOT the place for you. This place is a step up from your typical chinese take out joint. For example, you will not be able to order fried chicken with French fries and a watered down/oversweetened iced tea. The food here is pretty good and you get huge portions. I really have to force myself to finish a plate. The restaurant uses white chicken meat for its chicken dishes. Plus the restaurant has a large selection of REAL Chinese food items. O believe that frog legs are on the menu. Since this place is nicer, in terms of food quality, the prices are higher compared to those of a fast food type of Chinese restaurant. Many of the dishes start around at 13 bucks. The service is pretty standard-no small talk. You tell the waiter what you want and he will bring it out to you. Since this place is not that popular ( I think most people get take out or order deliver), it does not take long to get a table and you can hear yourself think or not scream to talk to the person next to you.

Went here for lunch with fiancee. I've had the frog legs before and I loved it so I decided to try something different but familiar, got beef and broccoli along with an order of crystal steamed shrimp dumplings, everything was delicious and fresh tasting! He had general tso's chicken, taste was nice crisp and the chicken was all white meat. Would definitely go back again.

Really good, authentic Chinese food. Lunch special is a must. Made to order, tasty, and fresh. Try items outside of your comfort level (general tsos / orange) and you'll be in for a pleasant surprise.

The rating for this place doesn't seem justified. I'm here to tell you that if you're hesitant about checking this spot out because of the three stars, don't be. It's solid! Double Cooked Pork is the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be back.

I ordered General Tso lunch special and to be honest I'm not expecting that it would be that good! They gave me a lot, I have to finish it in 2 rounds. The price is $8 something. I chose vegetable fried rice and even the fried rice was so good. The waitress was nice too. Anyway, they deserves 5 stars from me! Keep up the good work!

Get steamed Crystal shrimp dumpling Became more expensive but very good! And clean food, nice portions. I just get appetizers and two is more than enough for two days worth of food. Plus the counter people are friendly.

I generally do not leave too many reviews nowadays but the overall rating seems unjustified so I am leaving one right now. I just had Authentic Sichuan Fish Fillet and it was amazing. If you are ok with a bit of spicy food, highly recommended! Likely will be back.

Dumplings were good Lo Mein was decent General Tsos was bad I wouldn't recommend this place, but it was decent.

Yum, my favorite spot to pick up a filling meal. Always good reliable service. Don't miss the spicy beef with onion & peppers, it beats General Tso's by a mile!

I ordered on Seamless, so can't comment on anything in the restaurant food arrived very quickly, flavors were great and portions were generous. would def order again!!

We were there 5/26/13 and had an amazingly good vegetarian dinner. I look forward to returning the next time we're in NYC.

Unashamedly, I order from this place about once a week off of Seamless. It's usually my, "Hey! You made it to Friday...let's comatose off of chili oil and salt!" kind of reward. The bloat is real. The food is just what you want dirty NY Chinese food to be so don't expect some light bird food fare. I bet their seasoned woks go all the way back to the Ming dynasty and that's how I like it. I've ordered and will reorder: -Ma Po Tofu, Double-cooked Pork, Chili Braised Beef, and the veggie fried rice The only caveat is that you can distinctly tell when there's a different chef cooking up your dish...there'll be varying levels of food coma/weird chili after taste in your mouth. One day you'll feel victorious after finishing up 2 lunch combos with only feeling sluggish for a couple hours and other days you'll want to know what sort of drugs they knocked you out with after you wake up in a daze on your work couch with everyone silently judging (but also envying) you. Bottom line: quick delivery (almost alarmingly so..), food that karate chops your intestines into submission and portion sizes that make for great leftovers if you can handle it later.

I had recently had some amazing mapo tofu at Grand Sichuan. When I saw this place, I made the very incorrect assumption that Grand Sichuan Eastern was an outpost of the same restaurant. As soon as I got my mapo tofu, I realized it wasn't. I had ordered it suicidally spicy, but instead of mala spicy, they made it regular spicy - yawn. The tofu was hard instead of slick and soft, and the dish just felt very much lacking in any of the core flavors of mapo tofu. It had too much pork in it, and they dumped a crazy amount of oil on top to make up for its lack of flavor. I won't be back.
