Grande Hotel da Barra

Great service, staff was really friendly and helpful. Hotel is right across the beach, and you can find great restaurants and a supermarket within walking distance. Location is definitely good! The pool area is great, very spacious. As to the breakfast we were pleased with all the options. Only thing we noticed that could be better is how in our shower the water didn’t go down right away (making a puddle). Which wasn’t a major thing, but just a side note.

Pros:* spacious clean room* good breakfast opening at 6:30am sharp (doors are locked before then), with lactose-free milk and gluten-free options* okay pool area (no greenery though)Cons:* the A/C was weak, but after running it for one day the room was sufficiently cool (you do need a card in the slot during that day...)* no "Do not disturb" sign to hang onto the doorknob* the desk in the room was small and very annoying for laptop work (round, glass)* the chairs in the room were not comfortable at all* out of all the staff, only one front desk person spoke English* no laundry facilities* no business room* old slow elevator* window didn't insulate from the street noise that well, but I used 33 dB NRR earplugs to block the noise that came through; there are also many rooms that don't face the street* the front gate didn't open automatically with my key; had to wait for staff to open it; other times it was left open

I chatted with one of the room service ladies and she was very sweet and courteous. Unfortunately, the front desk and restaurant employees are lazy, rude, and disinterested in working

This isn't an upmarket hotel, nor does it pretend to be. The first thing you see is the steel gates at the bottom of the hotel entrance. Not a good look! The view is the best thing about this very average hotel.

Location is fine, Cons: bare rooms without any charm. - moldy, damp smell (comes with the climate, still you can do better) - mattresses are covered with a single thin sheet, in a place where most people will sweat profoundly, because the AC is too loud to be used during the night. Disgusting. - very thin walls - you hear everything from everyone. - large breakfast buffet, but service can not cope with demand, food not very tasty except the scrambled eggs. - spotty internet connection. -managee service very bad, problem with booking reservation and their reservation

The Grande Hotel da Barra is certainly one of the greatest hotel choices if you are looking for a place with a nice view and near to the most famous points of interests of Salvador. The hotel offers multiple amenities, several types of rooms, great leisure space, and a truly soap opera breakfast. The staff is very attentive and ready to help. The clean is so fast that you will barely notice it - your room will be ready a few minutes after you finish your breakfast.

The pool and location are the greatest attributes ! The hotel is old school mixed with some renovations, alot of senior citizen not my type of vibe. Found an 1 bedrm. apartment nearby via Airbnd, new and modern for half the price with full kitchen and washer.
