We had a one night stopover here following our arrival in Porto. Easy access via the metro from the airport. The internal décor reflects the grand history of the hotel, and there is a roof terrace with seating. We had breakfast included which was a very good buffet selection. Yes, the bedrooms are quite small but fine for an overnight stay. Staff helpful and polite. Before moving on the next day, we left our luggage at the hotel and explored the nearby area including the Bolhao Market.

Best location to see the city. Late check in was efficient and nice, our bell boy was super polite. We were stunned by being in such a historic place, and pleased that facilities were fully functional and luxurious. Francisco and Isabel at the front desk were kind enough to tell us some of their stories working there and shared via email the brief story of the hotel. Angelo, the server at the restaurant is always on point, we were pampered. Great price value ratio, the best in town, highly recommend. You have the amazing beauty of the city right in front of your eyes everywhere you look in this hotel. The bartender at the lobby is super efficient and the chicken wings were delicious, our check out was also super friendly. Everyone was doing their best to make us feel great. Gym is small, there is a lovely chocolate store right next door.

You simply can't beat the location. Right on one of the main pedestrian areas with good cafes close by (1min away from Majestic Cafe) and an easy 15-20min stroll down to the river. It's on "old style" hotel, well maintained. We had a family room on level 4 and it was clean, quiet and a comfortable retreat. Staff members are friendly and supportive; given advise and recommendations generously. The only negative is the breakfast buffet, which severely lacks in quality. Not bad enough though to deduct a point from the overall rating. Highly recommend this hotel!

We were so pleasantly surprised with how wonderful this hotel was! It was located on one of the busiest streets for shopping, yet by the evening, the streets were quiet and beautiful to walk around. The hotel itself was old and charming, the staff were all extremely friendly and willing to help! Breakfast had the same options each day, but there was plenty of variety and something for everyone to enjoy. We loved our stay at this beautiful hotel and would highly recommend it!

Brilliant location right in the heart of Porto. The staff were excellent and happy to recommend local cafes and restaurants to visit away from the touristic locations. The room was large and comfy with plenty of space. Porto has a few hills so be prepared to expel some energy getting back to the hotel. The breakfast was excellent with a great selection of food to kick start your day.

Nice place in the middle of the city on a pedestrian walkway. Noisy but it’s in the busy city of Porto. I was on a tour and stayed an extra 2 days. The food was good and most of the staff were accommodating. One staff member however refused to give me silverware to use in my room and that left a bad taste IMO. I went to the reception desk they sent me to the bar, then he sent me to the kitchen where I was told I have to order room service in order to get the silverware I needed😳🤦🏻‍♀️

We have just left this hotel today after spending 3 nights here on our first visit to Portugal. |1. The location is great |2. We had Room 003 so we were the floor below reception. At the back of the hotel so it was fairly quiet at night |3. AC perfect / not too cold and not too noisy |4. For the 3 of us (my 17 year old son was on a single sofa bed) the room was a little small, not much room to move around but it was only for 3 nights - had it been for longer I might have asked for a bigger room |5. The bathroom was an adequate size BUT I found it very strange that the shower cubicle was huge but the shower head was tiny and had a mind of its own it was so hard to get the temperature right! |6. They charged for everything in the room even the tea/coffee and water so we didn’t have any although the tap water is safe to drink |7. There was a free safe |8. The place was spotlessly clean |9. The staff were very friendly, helpful and very polite |10. We had breakfast included - it was good but could have been better (that’s just me being picky) no berries for the fruit and yoghurt no mushrooms I didn’t like the sausages but the bacon, scrambled egg (the only egg choice) and beans were all fine |11. Nice coffee machine at breakfast |12. Don’t bother using the so called “gym” I think it had 4 pieces of equipment and no air conditioning so it was like a sweatbox 😅|13. The roof terrace was worth a look not a great view but lovely all the same |14. The hangers in the wardrobe were too wide so to hang anything up you have to keep the wardrobe open |15. There is a spar very close by if you need water / beers / cold drinks - out of hotel turn right walk for a little bit and it’s on your left |16. Everything in the mini bar was chargeable but there was still enough room for you to store a couple of bottles of water and use as a fridge |17. Would I stay again - yes certainly |18. The best views in my opinion are from Crystal Palace Gardens which is a 1/2 hr walk from the hotel but worth it and it’s free |19. We did a river cruise €20 each |20. Bar with a view also nice when you cross the bridge on the lower level |Enjoy x

PROS: Location- center of the city, all shops and cafes right outside hotel. Exterior noise- no car noises, no people, no honking. Cleanliness- very clean room and bathrooms Decor- old historic charm, very unique “boutique” hotel. Amenities- nice breakfast and dinner options on site, lovely bar and plenty of sitting areas to gather and chat. Comfort- beds and pillows are comfortable CONS: Parking- no onsite parking, no valet, must “find” nearby parking garage and walk luggage down to hotel. Not good for children or elderly. Space- “family room” very tight space and fold out bed fits only 1 kid- not 2 like suggested. ***Air conditioning- only works for lower level in the family room. Upstairs adult space is HOT & HUMID- no air circulation. ***Indoor noise- thin walls, wooden floors, hear STOMPING all night long!!! *** biggest problem why I will not return***

Yelp
Location wise - this hotel is perfect. Look and feel wise - it feels like an really old school hotel. Think Tower of Terror in Disney or some old murder mystery from the Twilight zone. All of which are very cool. The rooms are very dated and the shower head sprinkles water at you. Getting the right temperature is also often a challenge. The staff is helpful and for a small city where you're just staying for two nights, it does its job. But you have to ding a star for the crappy shower.

Yelp
I'm a hotel snob. I admit it freely. And while this hotel is lovely from the outside and the many common areas, the guest rooms are small and uninspired. And, may I add, were updated sometime in the 70's so the grandeur and beauty that you see from the moment you push through the rotating door, vanishes when you step out of the elevator onto the room floors, and you see a sea of brown walls and carpet and functional doors with no ornamentation. The suite I had was a decent size, but the furnishings were abysmal. Brown carpet, a blue throw over the sofa, a brown velour chair and an orange bed made me think this room was furnished from a garage sale. And if you are trying to plug in your multiple devices, you will be unplugging things to plug in your devices. But there are plenty of good things as well if you can get beyond the way the room looks and the best is it's location right in the middle of all the great things Porto has to offer. There is also free wifi, a mini bar in the room, in room safe and a decent bed. The bathroom is also fully stocked but certainly not fancy. Breakfast is included in the price and that was quite nice with a wide range of things to choose from with scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, crusty bread and some pretty decent coffee. There is an old statement about a "party matching the invitation" and the Grand Hotel over promises with the beauty of the lower floors and the basic mis match of the rooms. You need only look at my pics to see what I mean. The wallpaper alone may keep you up at night. But it gets a solid 3 stars from me for location and functionality. I just wish the rooms were in keeping with the beauty that you first walk into.

Yelp
I agree that the rooms are small and uninspired, and unfortunately the evening service in the hotel restaurant was slow even when the place was nearly empty. But, on the plus side: the lobby and small bar area and sitting room are quite lovely and the hotel's location is excellent. The front desk staff at this historic hotel was so very helpful. I left my wallet in the safe, which I didn't realize until I reached Spain. The staff (Christina) was so very efficient in getting it shipped to me.
