Winter in the Winelands Is South Africa's Best-Kept Secret

"Grande Provence is a vineyard where visitors have greater access to wine blending, especially appealing during the winter months when the crowds are thinner. It can be reached via the Franschhoek Wine Tram."

We have stayed here several times and it never disappoints. The rooms are spacious and clean as is the rest of the estate. We love sipping sherry in the fire place room! The staff is wonderful and the attached restaurant/winery are lovely with amazing artwork. Breakfasts at the inn are a wonderful perk as well. We would recommend this place to anyone!

The venue is beautiful - tucked away in the mountains, with stunning scenery. The beds are ridiculously comfortable - possibly the most comfortable beds l've ever slept in. ||The staff are friendly and accommodating, and it's the little extra touches with every interaction that makes a visit to Grande Provence so memorable.||The food at the restaurant is good, but the Bistro is a little gem - would highly recommend having lunch there, even if you aren't staying on the property! ||Wine tasting is a very personal thing, but I also reckon that you will find a wine here to suit your palate. Their flagship wines are terrific!||Also, if you are able to make use of their mobile massage services, these are absolutely outstanding!||Minor thing - we stayed in the Loft Suite, which overall is fantastic, but the thatch roof isn't soundproof, and as this is a working farm with other guests, it can be noisy - especially earlier in the day. But definitely don't let this deter you - I would still highly recommend staying here!

Lizzie was lovely even though she was still learning. Good luck to her! Unfortunately we agreed that the general process was too rushed. We’ve been to many wine tasting experiences and it was just not a relaxing experience where you could take time and savour it. The cheese platter was also pretty sub par for a renowned establishment. Not an even ratio of cheese to breads and not much cheese variety. Sort the above out and could definitely improve a star or 2. These should be simple fixes. A beautiful place nonetheless.

My husband and I enjoyed the most DIVINE stay at Grande Provence. Everything about it was heaven, from the sumptuous bedroom suite, beautifully decorated lounge area and inviting breakfast room, to the tranquil pool and discreet location that was far enough away from the main wine estate to feel secluded but close enough to visit for lunch and dinner. Most outstanding of all was the service provided by the staff though and in particular, Wellington, who has a wonderfully warm and kind knack of appearing just when you need something to help in his inimitably calm and professional manner and it really makes him such an asset to the place. We will most definitely be re-booking thanks to him, let alone the wonderful accommodation and dining opportunities afforded by this estate, thank you.

We absolutely loved staying at Grande Provence hotel. It is a beautiful boutique hotel on a Vineyard, a 15 minute walk into town and with lots to do at the Vineyard itself including trying the amazing food and wine, as well as a gallery and sculptures. The setting is breathtaking.||||The staff at Grande Provence were amazing and looked after us so well. Wellington in particular was wonderful and helped to make our stay so special. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Me and my family stayed in the owners cottage at the grande provence estate and it was amazing. It is a very intimite accomodation with excellent service. The rooms are luxurious and the style perfectly fits the surroundings. The breakfast was fresh and healthy. The only small downside is that the owners cottage is a bit far from the other facilities (restaurant/tasting room/bistro etc.).

Service is abysmal. We waited around 25 minutes to be served and then we were rudely addressed. For the price you pay for the tram to be able to visit the wine form I would’ve expected much better service. The location is beautiful though, and the gallery is nice to look at.

A truly beautiful place, but unfortunately, the service leaves much to be desired! We booked a wine tasting at 12:30 pm, arrived at the location, and found ourselves lost on the property, trying to figure out how things worked. We tried speaking with someone to get directions, and two attendants simply turned their backs on us. When we finally found the wine tasting area, the waiter said we could find a table to sit at despite having booked in advance. The only table available, since all others were reserved for tour groups, was on uneven ground, making the chair crooked and uncomfortable. The wines were explained in a rush, and when we tried to ask the store employee about policies for bringing wine on the plane, he just ignored us and said, “I don’t know.” Service at the bistro was just as bad. Extremely disappointed to have chosen this winery for the only day I had available for this experience!
