Grande Provence - Wine tasting room

We’re locals from Franschhoek and have been regular visitors to Grand Provence for many years. It’s always been one of our favourite places to stop for a glass of bubbly and oysters, especially because of the beautiful garden setting. We used to visit very regularly and loved spending time under the big trees in the gardens — it was a big part of what made the experience feel special and relaxed. Today, arriving at Grande Provence, we were quite disappointed to find that things have changed significantly. A large section of the garden that has traditionally been part of the bubbly and oyster bar experience is now reserved exclusively for wine tram guests. This isn’t about one specific table or area, but rather that an entire, much-loved section of the gardens is no longer accessible to non-tram guests at all. As locals who have supported the estate for years, it was disheartening to arrive and realise that we could no longer enjoy the space in the way we always have. It’s also sad to see a growing trend where many wine farms seem to be shifting more and more towards catering primarily for wine tram guests, often at the expense of local patrons. Locals play an important role in sustaining these farms year-round, and it would be wonderful to see that balance better maintained. Grand Provence is still a beautiful estate, but this change has definitely altered the experience for us.

Visited Grande Provence Wine Estate for lunch and really enjoyed the experience. The views were beautiful, and the atmosphere was calm and inviting. After lunch, we stopped by the wine tasting room, which was elegant and well set up.

Please please look into service levels here! Regardless of the quality of the wine, the service (or lack thereof) makes you realise you should avoid this place at all costs. The servers all congregate in one area instead of wanting to help customers. You wait about 20 minutes after sitting down for someone to serve you. Then when you ask for ice because their MCCs and white wines are too warm, they disappear for 10mins until YOU YOURSELF have to physically go and get the ice. They complain about not getting bonuses but maybe that’s why they are not enthusiastic about their jobs. Maybe the staff are underpaid and overworked because it’s showing in their service levels. There are tons of places to try in Franschhoek - really don’t waste your time here!

We have stayed here several times and it never disappoints. The rooms are spacious and clean as is the rest of the estate. We love sipping sherry in the fire place room! The staff is wonderful and the attached restaurant/winery are lovely with amazing artwork. Breakfasts at the inn are a wonderful perk as well. We would recommend this place to anyone!

Good oysters, wine was ok but nothing special and the cheese platter cannot be recommend, as both the cheese and bread were pretty bland. Too expensive for what they offer IMHO.

The venue is beautiful - tucked away in the mountains, with stunning scenery. The beds are ridiculously comfortable - possibly the most comfortable beds l've ever slept in. ||The staff are friendly and accommodating, and it's the little extra touches with every interaction that makes a visit to Grande Provence so memorable.||The food at the restaurant is good, but the Bistro is a little gem - would highly recommend having lunch there, even if you aren't staying on the property! ||Wine tasting is a very personal thing, but I also reckon that you will find a wine here to suit your palate. Their flagship wines are terrific!||Also, if you are able to make use of their mobile massage services, these are absolutely outstanding!||Minor thing - we stayed in the Loft Suite, which overall is fantastic, but the thatch roof isn't soundproof, and as this is a working farm with other guests, it can be noisy - especially earlier in the day. But definitely don't let this deter you - I would still highly recommend staying here!

My husband and I enjoyed the most DIVINE stay at Grande Provence. Everything about it was heaven, from the sumptuous bedroom suite, beautifully decorated lounge area and inviting breakfast room, to the tranquil pool and discreet location that was far enough away from the main wine estate to feel secluded but close enough to visit for lunch and dinner. Most outstanding of all was the service provided by the staff though and in particular, Wellington, who has a wonderfully warm and kind knack of appearing just when you need something to help in his inimitably calm and professional manner and it really makes him such an asset to the place. We will most definitely be re-booking thanks to him, let alone the wonderful accommodation and dining opportunities afforded by this estate, thank you.

Me and my family stayed in the owners cottage at the grande provence estate and it was amazing. It is a very intimite accomodation with excellent service. The rooms are luxurious and the style perfectly fits the surroundings. The breakfast was fresh and healthy. The only small downside is that the owners cottage is a bit far from the other facilities (restaurant/tasting room/bistro etc.).
