Frankenmuth Is ‘Michigan’s Little Bavaria’—and It's the Best Small Town for Families

"As the oldest farm in Little Bavaria, Grandpa Tiny’s offers a petting zoo and year-round experiences—from reindeer at Christmas to a Flower Festival with a gourmet dinner in the sunflower fields—so it feels like much more than just a farm visit." - Katy Spratte Joyce Katy Spratte Joyce Katy Spratte Joyce is a food, business, and travel writer based in Omaha, Nebraska. This was a cute place to bring the kiddos. The market workers were all very nice, friendly and helpful. My boys liked playing basketball, riding on the mini zipline, and riding the bikes around the track. My youngest son loved Mrs. Claus reading him The Ginch Who Stole Christmas!!! The Santa there was awesome as well! So kind and took time to talk to my kids.

This was well worth the $18! You make ornaments, 📸 you get 5+ christmas picrure opportunities 🎄, you get to see Santa🎅, you can fish for candy canes, see reindeer, there are lots of animals, a zip line in a small play park, basketball made out of a feeder for a ball return 🏀, corn hole, a market filled woth holiday items, and Mrs Clause reads you a story🤶. We had a great time. This is a great place to bring a photographer.📷

We had a great time with our grandkids! Even the grown up kids enjoyed the very friendly animals. The red chickens ate from our hand and the goat and sheep begged for pets! There's also a walk to a one room school house and plenty of things to play with. We totally recommend! It's a day pass so if you leave for lunch you can come back after and have more fun. We had ages 1 4,and 5 up to 60 and every one of us had fun!

I took my almost 2 year old to the Santa’s Reindeer Farm experience. She absolutely loved it! The market workers were very friendly. There were lots of adorable items for sale. My daughter got to adopt a stuffed puppy where the worker helped her pick a name and she received an adoption certificate, super cute! There were wood ornaments she got to stamp and bring home. The santa was amazing! She loved to see the reindeer and birds. Then she got to pet a couple animals! She even sat down and listened to Mrs. Claus read a story!

KILLER REINDEER (Their words not mine) I requested a refund directly from the business prior to posting this review. We visited on December 21, 2025, and paid $35.50 specifically so my nieces could take a family Santa photo with us. Upon arrival, we disclosed that we had a service animal. A staff member told us — using the word “kill” — that the reindeer were “dog killers,” that they would kill my dog if they saw her, and that they could break out of their enclosures. This was extremely alarming language to hear at a family event with children present. We were initially told accommodations could be made and that staff would guide us in a way that prevented the reindeer from seeing the dog. Based on that assurance, we proceeded. However, when we reached the barn where the Santa photos were set up (the photos themselves did not include the reindeer), we were stopped and told we could not enter and would need to take photos outside instead. This directly contradicted what we were told moments earlier and resulted in us being unable to participate in the Santa photo experience we paid for. Notably, during our visit we walked past the barn where the reindeer were housed and later stood outside the pasture when the reindeer came out multiple times. The reindeer were able to see and smell my service animal, and at no point did they display any aggressive behavior toward us. While other activities were available, such as ornament making and viewing or petting other animals, we did not participate in any of them. Our sole reason for attending was the Santa photos, and once that was denied, the primary value of the ticket was lost. Additionally, the parking lot was solid ice and had not been salted at the time of our visit. It was extremely slippery and felt unsafe, especially for families with children. There was no advance notice on the website or ticketing information regarding restrictions for service animals or the alleged behavior risks of the reindeer. Clear communication ahead of time would have allowed us to make an informed decision before purchasing tickets. I am sharing this so other families can make an informed decision and know that this farm, while obviously all animals domesticated or not house a small chance of unexpected behavior, knowingly exposing children to animals who have attacked on the property before seems irresponsible. I would hate for a small child wearing a fur coat who just came from their house who was hugging and loving on the family dog to be attacked because an animal can't tell the difference.

Google
It's kind of rough. It cost me $42 for five people and you can't really do anything other than just look at a few animals. I do not recommend this place whatsoever. The cages were very packed full of animals and it's very dirty the place. It looks like it needs a makeover.

Google
The advertisement calls this a "reindeer farm". There were 2 reindeer and we expected several and hoped for a more interactive experience. The "petting zoo" consisted of a goat, a sheep and a donkey- we were told a couple animals were on "time out" for nipping. The craft show that was advertised was sparse at best. All the workers were very pleasant and friendly. This experience is geared for young children and offers very little for adults.

Google
The staff were friendly and welcoming, and overall we had a decent experience. However, there were a few things that were disappointing. The parking lot was not well maintained after the snowfall, which made arrival a bit difficult. Reindeer were advertised, but we did not see any during our visit. We were later told there was only one reindeer on the property. Given that this is promoted as a reindeer farm, that was surprising. At $17.75 per person for approximately a 10-minute experience, it did not feel like a good value for the price.

Yelp
It's only open during spring and summer but this is my favorite destination to go to in Frankenmuth. it actually is our first stop. it is a working farm where grandpa Tiny can take you on a tractor ride through the fields tell you his little folk stories, and get your children's imagination story with the trolls under the bridge. and alligators in the pond. you can take a tour in the chicken coop or hold a little bunny or of the chick in Spring. There's a beautiful milking cow there that likes to push my daughter out of the way. and it seems like they have new baby piglets Every Spring not to mention the beautiful draft horses. you also can learn how they process the corn and make flour it's a very cool place to take the kids and is an actual learning experience for them . They also sell peacock feathers for only $1 and t-shirts and coloring books. I feel great when I go here because I can support something that is not zender's owned dominated and taken over like everything else in Frankenmuth.

Yelp
We went this past weekend. It was ok.. I definitely felt it is overpriced for what it is. Santa and the reindeer were the highlight.

Yelp
Cute little reindeer farm. The event was tailored to children, but overall a good experience. Only complaint was the lack of urgency to open at noon, as the tickets stated.

Yelp
So really this is geared towards small children. Did not realize this before paying but got to see a few reindeer anyway. And some neat arrangements. There were a few animals that could be pet. Santa and Mrs Claus were there.

Yelp
We recently took a weekend trip to Frankenmuth, and stumbled upon this little heritage farm. It was easily accessible and conveniently located in close proximity to all of the other area attractions. The owner was actually the first person to greet us and was so kind, helpful and personable. The animals were well kept and the organization of the farm was both fun and informative! What a great introduction to farm life for those who are unfamiliar and a beautiful acknowledgment to the history of the area and farming.

Liz M.

Yelp
We took my grandson here to see Santa and the reindeer. They had a small bounce house, and some fun activities for the kids, which my grandson enjoyed. With that being said, I was surprised at the poor condition of the animals. Many were thin, dirty, and had no water. There were ducks trying to get water out of a small swimming pool that only had a tiny bit of mud at the bottom. There was a turkey laying, looking barely alive. It was sad. The animals are what draw the people to this attraction. I would hope more of the profits would go toward better care of the animals.

Danielle L.

Yelp
We visited to see Santa mostly and because we have family within 30 min. Price was right and staff was super friendly. I would highly recommend a visit as an add on to a day or weekend in Frankenmuth but on its own, there's not much To see besides a Visit with Santa a small farm animal viewing and a Few Photo ops.

Yelp
This was so much fun! The girls and I decided to go because we were in the area. We decided we wanted to hit this little petting farm because we are like toddlers. It was $3 to get a tour of the farm and pet the animals. $5 if we wanted the wanted the wagon ride. The people on the farm were so knowledgeable and nice, even though we did stump them on a few questions. There were peacocks, bunnies, sheep, chickens, ducks, horses....

Yelp
Well, I have no idea why this place has good reviews. There were a small number of animals that could be petted so I feel like they shouldn't advertise this as a petting farm. There were literally 3 bunnies and 1 goat that you were allowed to pet or that would allow you to pet them. But really the worst part was they didn't look well cared for and looked very sad. The pens were small and not taken care of. Two of the bunnies were in a small plastic tote on a picnic table. The tote was barely big enough for them and they had absolutely no room to move or get away if they didn't feel like being petted. The other bunny was in a makeshift pen on a concrete floor. I really felt bad for them all. Please don't go here, pay them money to keep this place running. It shouldn't be.

Yelp
This is a really outstanding farm, really great for kids. They have lot's of animals here, cattle, chickens, hens and roosters, peacocks, a donkey, two horses, pigs and many other animals. It seems to be family run and the farmer guided us on the ranch and gave lot's of interesting information about farming and different animals and how it all works. They also have a little tour they take you on with a horse carriage where you get even more information. He has a really great sense of humor and is great with kids. Truly great value for $5 per person!

Yelp
What a great time. Super friendly staff. Took my 7 year old and 20 month old. Both had a great time. Lots to learn. Went during the week. Not many people. Would highly recommend

Yelp
It's a very fun place to go with young kids. They have lots of animals to pet. The tractor tour takes you into the field. Fun family time with the kids.

Yelp
This unpretentious business is run by two people who are very good with people and animals alike. Defiantly the best value for money that I experienced. Not only do you get a supervised, hands on experience with the animals but they have some old pieces of historical interest as well. They had their 19c barn restored and spent the extra money to have the Amish do it to stay true to its roots. You can see the marks of the hand tools on the beams. No exotic animals but if you want to know (or you want your children to know) where your food comes from, this site is indispensable. Also, unlike some zoo's and all factory farms, this place will not make you sad for the animals.

Yelp
Ms. Wendy and Farmer John were so welcoming and hospitable. We highly recommend visiting ad learning about how they are involved in the community!

Yelp
Website said they would be open 10-5 today. Arrived to take grandson to the farm for his first experience getting a pumpkin and they were closed. We were very disappointed!

Courtney K.

Yelp
Fantastic Place to visit. It's nice to see a family follow their dream. The personal touch adds a lot to the experience. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Fantastic. Took our 13 month old son and my 3 yo niece. Fun for everyone! Clearly they have a passion for this farm. The wagon ride was great and didn't cost extra. The kids loved petting the animals and playing in the corn. We will come back every year that we vacation in Frankenmuth.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time today at Grandpa Tiny's! The farmer and his wife were so friendly and walked us through the barn and told us all about the animals. The baby goats were adorable! The farmer let us go in with them and as I was kneeling down they climbed all over me. My daughter loved it. They took us on a tractor ride and told us lots of history and fun facts. The farmer had a lot of jokes and was very friendly. They even took us into the chicken house and showed us where they lay and sleep. A fun learning experience and family day!

Yelp
Amazing place and gentle staff... They love what they do and provide a great experience for kids. All animals seems well treated and friendly for petting.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Excellent!!! This is an excellent experience for the family! The animals are adorable and so friendly. The staff is amazing and so helpful and funny. My boys loved every minute and wanted to do the tour all over again. The wagon ride is the best thing!
