Considering the experience I had tonight I'm surprised by the average rating this place has. The wait staff where not very knowledgeable about the menu and when I asked what the Diane sauce that was an extra option for the fillet steak (which is the most expensive of the mains) the waiters reply was that he had never tried it so he couldn't describe it. Also when ordering I made a point of asking specially about how they cooked the meat to understand if it was the usual UK style where medium=well done and the waiter was very clear that a rare is a rare, so two of us ordered rare and the other ordered medium rare but fillets where delivered medium well and well done. The quality of beef was likely excellent and if it had been cooked right it probably would have been an excellent meal. When asked if the food was ok I made a very clear comment that it wasn't and gave constructive feedback which was just met with a sorry and no further comment. The starter was ok, I had a steak tartar and my colleagues had the scallops, the scallops where tiny and only two so not very good value but the tartar was good. Also the staff had no clue about the beer they were serving and when asking about the craft beers they started telling about the peroni on tap. I expect some sort of compensation for such a badly cooked steak that costs about 35£ with sauce but none was given. The only reason it's not a one star is that everything else tasted good.

Well propotioned portions and very well made course giving you a dining to remember. Staff polite and attentative. I thougt prices moderate (but I am Swedish and used to high prices) A perfect place to treat your son or doughter at university as it is relaxed yet refined.

Excellent food, reasonably priced with friendly, efficient service

Exceptional food in particularly small portions. Very nice restaurant with attentive and well-mannered staff. Waiting times for food were also good/reasonable. Food was high quality and cooked to perfection across every course. I didnt leave hungry but the portions were very small and may be considered a little pricey on that basis if the quality wasn't taken into consideration. Overall though, a great experience and I would definitely go back.

Nice food, wine and service. But the atmosphere and decor is lacking. Very noisy because of no soft furnishings - sounds like a canteen. Get some velvet curtains! The pics on the walls are poor abstracts and naff Aberdeen drawings. They need a good local artist to make the place more classy

Fabulous place in the middle of Aberdeen, just off Union St in Golden Square. Nicely spaced tables, well trained young staff and an obviously talented chef. Great venue with a nicely decorated historic building. The food was the star attraction and everything else just added to make it special. If I had to find something wrong, I'd have to say the toilets could be better and looked about due an upgrade, but hey that's about it. Well worth a regular visit. A delightful amuse bouche to start consisting of a small piece of the terrine along with warm fresh bread roll. We had salmon starter and this was very generous with great flavours including a lemon citrus jus bubble here and there which gave a great kick to the dish..... superb. Steak for main course which was perfectly cooked and cut like butter. Finally a lovely sticky toffee pudding and creamy ice cream to finish things perfectly. Fizz to start and a nice bold red too

Best Meal I have had in Aberdeen by far. Amazing scallops and a mouth watering steak that was so soft I could have spread it across the plate, cant wait to revisit. Also try the cocktail bar downstairs, it is truly devine.

Really nice lunch with terrific service - we need more welcomes this good in Aberdeen! Good value lunch menu & a lovely room just off Union Street.

We showed up without a reservation reasonably early on a Friday night, which worked. I had the soup of the day, which was primarily celeriac (but probably some potato, too), and then a halibut filet, which was excellent. The daughter had sea bass, which she thought was very good, too. My wine was a French Sauvignon Blanc, a nice drink. Tasty, house-baked bread. The service wasn't as attentive as it could have been (plenty of staff around, apparently waiting for the bulk of the guests to arrive), but adequate. The decor is a bit odd: in a town that is smack full of granite and maybe other rock on the streets, in buildings, and so on, this one had some sort of granite-rock-patterned wall paper. Not exactly tacky, but not as classy as it could have been. And what is up with one nice napkin made of fabric and one paper napkin? (Maybe the latter is for blowing your nose?) Anyway, the food was so nice that they get four stars but there is room for improvement in the details.

Very average meal. We were not surprised after eating that the place was pretty much empty. Go to Moon Fish around the corner for crowds and good food.
