Stayed here with my husband in September. This was hands down the best time of year to go. The Highline Trail was pretty active with bear activity, so be prepared, but the views on the Highline were incredible. If you can book a stay at the Chalet it's well worth it.

We had an amazing experience at Granite Park chalet in late August 2023. We feel so fortunate to have spent one night in this historic place. To get there, we hiked the Highline trail and were able to see goats resting on some ledges along the trail and a moose feeding in one of the lakes below. The chalet is just incredible…to think about the hands that built it a century ago in such a remote location is mind blowing. If you are lucky enough to go, set your expectations accordingly by reading the web site in advance of your visit…it is rustic, the rooms are simple, you make your own food and bring (or retrieve) your water, the pit toilets are a few steps from the buildings…it’s all laid out clearly on the website. As we departed, we hiked down swiftcurrent pass to the hotels…the view of the lakes from the top, shortly after we left the chalet, was breathtaking. Wish we planned more time to play in the lakes as we got to the bottom. Thanks to Lane and his crew for expertly managing the property for the summer and providing wonderful hospitality.

Granite Park Chalet is a hidden gem nestled atop a challenging hike, offering a retreat that’s both rustic and rewarding. The journey to reach it tests your stamina, but once you’re there, the breathtaking views and serene surroundings make every step worth it. A word to the wise: if you’re looking to quench your thirst or satisfy a snack craving, be sure to pack some cash. The Chalet operates on a cash-only basis for drinks and treats. It’s a beautiful blend of adventure and simplicity that everyone should experience at least once.

Great experience. Staff was awesome. Highline trail was indescribable and saw a grizzly from a distance.

We had a great two night stay at the chalet. The views are stunning, day hikes incredible, the staff are very friendly and fun to chat with. I enjoyed sitting outside with my morning coffee waiting for the first day hikers to arrive. As others have said, the walls may as well be removed. You literally hear the person in the room next to you breathing. The kitchen is well equipped with a large propane stove. To avoid over crowding each group signs up for a time slot to prepare their dinner. They provide a water jug for each cabin that you carry the short distance to their filtered water source to fill as needed. This is a definite “experience” trip that was fun shared with our college and HS kids!

People are really friendly, they helped us out to rest and warmup when we misjudged highline trail to be 7 miles. They saw us while on trail and were flashing the lights until we reached the chalet safely (about 10-11pm). Then the ranger suggested us to hike back to our car as it’s all downhill and as we are a big group of 8. (He did inform other rangers about us). We did and reached our parked car at 3:30-3:45am. Luckily we didn’t have any wildlife encounters.

this is over 100 years old and amazing to have the mountains all around you. it's primitive and the highline trail was still closed due to the snow, so they shuttled us to the loop. great alternative nothing wrong with it. they communicated well and we were prepared. they had containers with water about a quarter mile away that we could go and carry back, but be aware that they don't have bathrooms, just a pit toilet. we swallowed out toothpaste but afterwards heard that there is a small basin to be used for it, we weren't told of it! very nice to experience it once in a lifetime.

Yelp
Great place, Spectacular views, ... Breathtaking hikes, but they want you out of bed by 8:30 am at the latest. Even though quiet time is 10 pm, people stay up talking (Talking loud) well past that point. You can ask them to whisper, but that doesn't help. There are really no walls between the rooms, just half logs stacked together with an inch and a half of space between the two halve's. No, you can not see into the other room, but you can hear everything from the other room as if there were no walls. The chalet offers ear plugs but that only helps if the other people try to be quiet. Everyone should be told at check in about respect for other guests by being quiet between certain hours because of the walls. So, my point, if your not out of bed by 8:30, even though you have only slept a few hours because of the noise the other guests are making, you will be awakened by the staff going through the empty rooms with their music extremely loud (really dude, that's why they make the earbud). I did ask him to turn it down, the response was totally childish. The next few minutes were filled with multiple, yes multiple, doors slamming accompanied with loud music. He did make an effort to slam the doors. He went down the stairs, came back up, went into the room on the east side of mine, slammed both doors. Then, he went to the room on the west side and slammed those doors. And then he went back to the east room and slammed those doors again. All within a few minutes. I realize the staff gets their time off during the day, and they need that time, but at whose expense!? I really want to go back and hike the trails I didn't do and even spend more time on the trails already done. But that may not be possible, now. The socialities were great if you were face to face, but don't hinder their free time. Only one of the four staff didn't seem to worried about her free time. I guess she was had been there longer or she was having someone make the noise for her. Who knows. All I know, if we weren't on their schedule, ... Really, moving the hot water to the staff counter just because it's after 9:00 am. How subtle can you be, you already had breakfast. Overall, we had a great time at the Granite Park Chalet. I appreciate what this family is doing to make these places more accessible. Thank you (everyone at the office) for the accomodations you made. I could not have made this trip without you.

Yelp
Expect terrible customer service!! After you have paid in full, you do not receive a refund even if the main road and trails into the chalet are closed due to forest fires. Think twice before booking in the month of August or September. They have a strict no refund policy and stick to it no matter what. The demand here is so high that reasonable accommodations and customer service are completely lacking. You will never reach anyone on the phone if you call the number listed, only get voicemail. If you email a question, you may or may not get a reply. After paying in full, I emailed a couple weeks prior to our stay to inquire about whether or not they issued refunds in the setting of the road and trails being closed, and instead of answering my question, they just cancelled my reservation! I had to email them back and inform them that I was only asking a question, and fortunately our 6 spots were still available to re-book. We had to cancel our reservation in the end since the road to Logan Pass was closed from the west; it's several hours to reach the pass from the east if you're staying on the west. My only recourse was to wait until the very last minute to cancel (I already knew I wouldn't get any of the $600 back) so that they couldn't re-book those spots and double-dip another $600. Buyer beware.
