Food was terrible - it looked nothing like the photos on the menu. I ordered a pizza and the chocolate cake. The cake was actually a walnut brownie rather than the three layer cake slice pictured, with no mention it contained nuts. Also they had no diet soda at all. No staff available to complain about the food. Bag overpriced experience all round.

This is one of the most disappointing places I’ve ever eaten. Gorgeous location in the National Park but really weird restaurant. On the way in you have to order from a touch-screen kiosk like you’re at McDonalds. You have to pick a table number and take it with you to one of the few clean tables. To begin with I thought it was a prank restaurant as there weren’t any waiters at all. Then one came rushing out with drinks and food to a table of exacerbated customers who had started gnawing on the table legs trying to find some kind of nutrition in this place. After seeing the food they went back to gnawing the table legs. Okay that last part was a joke but yeesh, food was pretty awful. My ‘veggie’ pizza is one of the oddest pizzas I’ve ever come across. It was like bare tomato puree was slopped on, some cheese and then a crunchy mountain of raw white onion, olives and a few sad mushroom slices. I can’t decide if the lingering aftertaste is bitter, sour or maybe both. Oh, and they included a bonus slice of ham on the ‘vegetarian’ pizza (see bottom left of photo). All in all, it’s a thumbs down. You’d be better off eating trail mix for dinner and saving some $$$ I’m off to brush my teeth now. The aftertaste triggering my gag reflex.

It was better than expected for the reviews. My pizza was good and had lots of cheese. It seems understaffed and takes long. After a hike or a long roadtrip, this is pretty decent, especially for being inside the park. Tables were not cleared the whole time I was in there, but again, I believe it's due to staffing issues. Definitely not bad tho and if I'm already in the park I'd go back again.

I went there last night and ordered a small salad and a grilled cheese sandwich. The cucumbers on my salad were so gross, they were slimy. If that's all the cucumber in the kitchen, say your out! My grilled cheese was burnt on the outside and not fully melted on the inside. Try harder.

The good news is food is basic but good. However don't go there hungry because you might wait hours to get it. I ordered a hamburger and a hot dog to go and had to wait 90mn. Staff in the room was helpful however kitchen was just slow, it wasn't even busy!

Google
In summary, food is decent but the slow and boring hours completely ruins the whole experience. We came at 8:00 and we didn’t get out food until 9:00. I did not think that it would get to the point that we had 10 minutes to eat. Furthermore, they could've at least brought us the drinks a little earlier, but no. So, although the food was decent, the wait was very long.

We were forced to eat here and the reviews were correct; the food is not good but very pricey! We ordered French toast, oatmeal and order of bacon, and fruit and that cost almost $30. The oatmeal was stiff and hard. My friend said the French toast wasn’t good at all. The bacon was fried so hard that it crumbled. And it took 30 minutes to get the food!!! Smh There are no servers just person who takes order and one yo bring food. Low quality of service because they know visitors don’t have any other option.

We came to this restaurant and I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak, while my wife had a burger — we both loved it! The service was super efficient and the food was delicious. Considering this is inside the park, we were honestly surprised, especially because the rating made it seem like it wouldn’t be good. But it was quite the opposite. We were very satisfied, and I’m leaving this review to encourage others — it’s definitely worth it. The food is really good, and as a food guy who’s pretty critical, I have to say: I was impressed.

Yelp
This is a solid four stars, prob closer to 4.5. The only issue was the confusing ordering setup... there are kiosks but there's also a lady at what appears to be a hostess station. We placed our order w/ her but the machine was down so luckily we had cash. The restaurant is large and there's an outdoor deck that overlooks the forest. Even though it was barely 40 degrees, we opted to eat outside because why not!? It's gorgeous. Hubs had a Cuban panini. I had a caprese panini. They came w/ kettle cooked chips. They were hot, they were full of flavor and really hit the spot after a long morning hike.

Yelp
Food from national parks is usually nothing to write home about, but unfortunately this was worse than usual. Ordering is very confusing/doesn't work as they have electronic kiosks that intermittently work. Food prices aren't horrible, but still high for what you get. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was beyond overcooked and dry that even ketchup didn't help. It's really the only option besides packing in your own food, which we had already done for our other meals. Restaurant itself was very dirty, they are clearly understaffed likely because it is not the busy season (someone should tell all of us tourists as it was very busy).

Yelp
My wife and I came and ate food here 3 times during our trip to Kings Canyon National Park. We overall had a great experience and it proved to be convenient and affordable compared to some of the other restaurants we went to outside of the parks. Grant Grove has a nice space, a cabin-lodge feel with plenty of seating inside and outside. In our first visit (which I would have given 3 stars) I ordered a chicken salad wrap--unfortunately the wrap was 70% lettuce with only what felt like a spoonful of chicken salad--I was pretty disappointed (feel free to look at the pics attached for reference). Came with a bag of chips on the side. In our 2nd visit we came in the early morning, around 7:15 AM for breakfast. (5 stars) I ordered the "Hikers Breakfast"--scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon and a couple of pancakes. I was super impressed, the breakfast was hearty and got us super full, ready for a long day of hiking. The hash browns were crisp and the pancakes were nice and fluffy. Was a great start to our day!! I had an iced coffee with vanilla syrup to down it all (also so good). In our last visit to Grant Grove I ate the Caprese Panini with a side of fruit (5 stars). The pesto was delicious and the sandwich's warmth and the melted mozzarella made me want more. Fruit was.....just fruit! Decided to go a "healthier route," and it was overall a good meal. Definitely recommend dropping by if you want something convenient and still good!

Yelp
Food was good Cuban Sandwich was good just needs more of the Cuban seasoning call Mojo Burger good grilled marks and flavor a little chard Pasta salad needs work to dry. Service was a little slow

Sharry S.

Yelp
Although understaffed, the young workers go out of their way to provide great service! The food is brought to your table and placed in front of each individual. It broke my heart to see a white family be so condescending and dismissive when the servers checked on them, thanked them and wished them a good day and a bon apetito. Would it be so hard to acknowledge the people that are serving you? Say thank you at least!

Ana T.

Yelp
We came here to get some lunch after the long drive from Sequoia National Park. Just order at the kiosk. There are tables outside to sit and eat (bad air quality when I went). Food is on end pricier side, but that's expected. The food was alright and filling.

Lori H.

Yelp
These reviews are insane. This place is terrible. Don't come thirsty. You enter to a kiosk that might or might not work. If it doesn't the host will take your order. Order all the drinks you want. I normally have 3 topped off waters during a meal. No one is walking around for service. There is no table service. The food is okay. The ladies room had no soap. The hand sanitizers on the wall were empty. I asked my husband to bring me soap from the men's room. Really this is a poor choice for a restaurant. And it's pricy. I don't get it. Also I don't get the positive reviews. 2 stars were given because we ate. We received our 1 paper cup of water and the location seemed clean.. But really do better. Lodge review coming.

Michael P.

Yelp
Super awesome staff and decent food. They are always friendly and quick to help. The pizza is decent all though very crispy cheese almost burnt. Main issue is the kiosks that seem to hold everything up and frustrate everyone taking forever for the rest of us to order. Can't have 1 staff to take orders...

Lori B.

Yelp
Ordering was a bit cumbersome. We had to go into the restaurant dining area to order & pay at a kiosk, and then wait outside for our order number to be called from the pick-up window. Luckily, they weren't very busy & our wait wasn't long, but the process definitely was not smooth. Inside, the tables were open for dining, but the serving lines were not; orders had to be placed via kiosk. Tables were also available outside in the courtyard. All that aside, my grilled trout sandwich was outstanding! And hubs enjoyed his hamburger. We were quite pleased and satisfied with our meals here. Prices were reasonable as well.

Michael C.

Yelp
The food was surprisingly good for the type of restaurant and the quality was also high. The service was pretty mediocre because due to an unknown issue the place was only take out except you could sit in the interior also the kiosks were broken even though there was a good wait time. The ambience was okay the view was okay because it was foggy and there were not many people and it felt empty overall very good place to eat!

Yelp
For restaurant management (who is NOWHERE to be seen): 1) You are virtually stealing from us. Your prices are utterly outrageous. They are way higher even than airport prices. 2) You are providing almost no service whatsoever. Order through a machine (which only works intermittently). Get your food from someone who yells out a number, hands it off, and runs away before you find out it is wrong. 3) Food came out differently each lunch over three days - and each in the category of shortchanging the customer, leaving off important (to the customer) elements of the food. Example - for quesadillas: day 1) guacamole omitted. Day 2) extra sour cream bought/paid for omitted. Day 3 - half-servings of sour cream and salsa, provided together in the same container (that is, full serving, which is supposedly included, omitted)! And I've never in all my years seen a restaurant combine sour cream and salsa in the same little container! We pay to get into this park. We also support the park through our federal taxes. We are certainly happy to pay for the food too. But not at transparently exploitive prices, $#!+ service, and childlike attempts to further fleece the customer with "nickel and dime" shortcuts. Park attendees: You should do what WE will do in the future - Pack in your own food. Boycott the in-park food dispensaries. They are utterly undeserving of the term, "restaurants." If you DO eat there - let it be widely known that you CAN get free refills on soda - a fact they clearly don't want you to know.

Yelp
Ordered food off the kiosk. triple deck club sandwich with chips, nothing special. o cool evening so a soup of the day was worth it. average ma. and cheese and fruit cup. national park concession food. what more can I say?

Joey D.

Yelp
Beggers and such Look, let's be real- this one of only a couple restaurants in all of Kings Canyon Park. And most of the others are closed half the year. Being that the selection of other places is incredibly limited, I was actually very happy with what I got here. The food is good. Solid quick serve items, made to order, and served fast enough. Our group bought a wide range of items and not one complaint or miss. Everything was good. I was happy with my burger. I've had worse burgers at fancier places. This place has changed quite dramatically over the past several years. The pictures from 10 years ago are not representative of how it looks or operates now. You order from a kiosk and then pick up your food from a window. You can eat inside or out. The menu is limited compared to a full restaurant, but there are still plenty of options. Sure, it's a little pricey but considering its the only game in town, I would have been willing to pay even more for some decent hot food I didn't need to make myself. If you come up the 180 and are hungry, this is a must stop. You can't do better. Literally.

Brenda S.

Yelp
Full disclosure, we went on the 4th of July weekend so maybe that's why everything was... far from good. We were in a hurry so we thought this would be the quickest option but we were wrong. There are two outdoor machines where you order you food; you can not order inside or at the window. We ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and that was it; we thought a small order should be out in 15 - 20 minutes. It took 45 minutes, the Burgers were cold, and the bacon looked like my dog's bacon treats. Very disappointing. While we waited we also saw a woman complain about her fish that wasn't fully cooked. They refused to make her a new batch and said it would be 3-5 days for her money to be returned to her card.

Robert U.

Yelp
Wow. Not good food and a pretty bad experience. NPS should be able to do better. Service 1 star. There was none. Veggie burger and pizza - 1 star. I me man how do you screw up pizza this bad. Burger - 2.5 star. I mean. It was over cooked but not terrible. We were staying at the lodge nearby and this is the only close option. To put it in perspective - we chose to have ramen and microwaved hotdogs the next night instead of going back.

Mayra P.

Yelp
This was the worst food I have ever had. We were hopeful with the menu selection that this would be a good place to eat. We had the plant based burger which arrived wrapped in paper and cold and tasteless, the bread was soggy. Really? You don't serve a burger cold and soggy. The "soup" was tomato sauce out of a can. It was horrible. This is basically a fast food cafe with really bad food. Bring back chefs and wait people and food that is good.

Julia S.

Yelp
We were actually shocked at how terrible this place was. We were looking forward to dining here for breakfast and dinner since we are staying in the nearby lodge for two days. You order from a teenager, three steps inside the door, behind a cash register, like a fast-food restaurant. No one greets you. It is cold and dark inside so I recommend eating outside. The person who delivered the food didn't speak English so we couldn't ask for mustard. Food was not served on plates. This was most unfortunate given we had paid a 18% tip when we ordered the food. You had to get up to get your own napkins and cutlery. We ordered the veggie burger, which was tasteless, dry and the bun seemed to have been stale or microwaved until it was tough. You had to eat it off of the paper wrapper it came on. The chopped salad was average in a to-go container that was likely made earlier in the day. There was no staff to be found to ask for extra dressing as the kid behind the cash register had a long line of people to take orders from. No way to ask for water. With no music in the large dining room, it would have been a dismal experience if we hadn't eaten outside with the ants and bird poop. The "creamy tomato soup" had nothing creamy about it--tasted like pasta sauce.

Henry C.

Yelp
Went back this year expecting the same great food and service as I spoke to in my last review. Was met with a closed restaurant and a couple kiosks to order hardly edible fast food delivered from a window. What happened? It seems to be the case in both Sequoia and Kings Canyon parks. The dining services have become unacceptable as far as providing choices. Very sad to see it has become so poor. It used to be very good and something friends and family looked forward to.

Yelp
I truly enjoyed my time eating at the Grant Grove Restaurant located in King's Canyon National Park....right on the border with Sequoia NP as well. I was actually spending 2 evenings here on the grounds of Grant Grove Village in a cozy little tent cabin. So for convenience....this Grant Grove Restaurant was ideally situated within a 5 minute walking distance from my cabin. Besides the fact that there were very few restaurants and dining options inside Sequoia and King's Canyon NP's....but after eating at Grant Grove Restaurant my 1st night here....I was satisfied enough to be excited to return for night 2....especially after running around and exploring the wonderful sights that Sequoia and King's Canyon Parks offered. For myself, most importantly what I appreciated about this place stopping in over the summer time.....I was able to come here, sit down, relax and enjoy a nice home cooked meal. During my visit....it was just a good, plain, simple ending to both my days. I didn't have to travel at all to find dining....I basically went back to my tent cabin, showered up and leisurely strolled over here. I highly appreciated the overall setting Grant Grove Restaurant had. It was quite similar to a rustic, mountain lodge vibe and feel. When I entered, I got seated right away with no waiting (surprising especially during dinner time in peak travel season). The restaurant was quiet and spacious, with clean carpeting, wooden tables and chairs...all set upon a comforting/homely ambiance. This place was pleasant. The menu consisted of interesting options.....enough for virtually anyone to pick out something. I'm not picky whatsoever so I was content with what choices were featured. The menu had....appetizers, soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, grilled cheese, wraps, pizzas, and unique entrees like....salmon, lasagna, steak, skewers, chicken breast, rib-eye steak, pork milanese, roasted half chicken, and almond crusted trout. What actually caught my eye, and what I ordered on my 1st evening was the Grant Grove Special - Mary's Chicken Pot Pie - which included a small house field greens salad....all for $11.95. I thought....what a deal! Here's the good and the bad....the pot pie and salad were delicious....unfortunately the portion size was way too small. I wasn't satisfied afterwards. It was okay though. When I left, I walked over to the Grant Grove Market and picked up ice cream. When I returned the 2nd evening, I knew to order something heartier. Still, when I came again.....no wait, I sat right down, ordered quickly, no problems....the way I like it. The ambiance and setting won me over again. It was humbling to sit down for dinner...reflecting on my activities I accomplished during the day while taking it easy for the remainder of the night. This time I got a colorful salad I'd certainly recommend. The Summer Berry Salad - organic greens, strawberries, candied walnuts, feta cheese, and a tasty fig balsamic dressing all for $12.25. The salad was huge....and much more filling than the tiny pot pie I had the night before. To be cautious that I was receiving enough food, I added a basket of sourdough bread - for only $2.95 more. The bread was warm and crispy....a perfect compliment to my salad. It was certainly far more substantial that I actually carried the remainder of my salad in a to-go box. So yeah, the 2nd night I came here definitely was the better of my two visits. As I reflect on coming to Grant Grove Restaurant and eating dinner here, I have fond memories of how content I was. If anyone is staying on the grounds of Grant Grove Village or next door at John Muir Lodge, I think it'd be great to check this place out. If you're passing through Sequoia and King's Canyon also, this restaurant is also more than adequate. Finally, being nestled in the heart of two glorious national parks where choices for meals are limited, the all-American food and charming setting here at this Grant Grove Restaurant made for a winning dining option.

Nd L.

Yelp
Strictly on take out service named Courtyard which is only part of restaurant that is open at this time. We stayed in Muir Lodge. I ordered food online and by the time I walked to pick up the food it was ready. Ordered chicken sandwich, club sandwich, Grant burger, and kids Mac & cheese. Wasn't expecting anything but Burger and sandwiches were excellent which is why the 5 stars. Everything on those sandwiches and burgers went really well together. Big but gobbled it up. Mac & cheese is just what it is. Kid liked it though. As sides we got vege soup, pasta salad and chili. Sides were just ok. Mixed pasta salad with chili and it tasted better. Definitely will visit here again on next visit and order same thing and maybe try trout sandwich.

Pat P.

Yelp
We did not go into the restaurant and ordered via the take out window. QR codes are all over the place to order food but there is not phone reception at the park. Restaurant offers wifi but we found it extremely slow so we ordered using the one kiosk they had. We got there at a good time as the line was short but the line got extremely long extremely fast. We just ordered a sandwich and a wrap. The food was ready to be picked up pretty quickly, was good and at a decent portion as well. We sat outside and there was ample seating for a Monday at lunch time. It could imagine it being busier on a weekend.

Agnes D.

Yelp
I can definitely appreciate this restaurant. While it is not the best, i am grateful for the fact that when i looked st their menu, they and some GF and V options. This was out first time camping, and so, we didn't really prep to have hotdogs and smores for dinner and so having a restaurant close to the campground is awesome! With that said.... I ordered the vegetarian soup; It was bland but i just added salt and it was great! I ordered the sweet chile chicken wings and it was delicious!

Jason G.

Yelp
Grant Grove gets 4 stars due to my family having eaten at the Peaks restaurant in Sequoia NP the previous day. Grant Grove is a step up from the Peaks. The dining room is smaller, but nicer and has a few outside tables. The menu and service is also a step up. There are a number of vegetarian options, a couple of vegan, and a full steak so there is something for everyone from carnivore to veggie. I had the quinoa burger which was pretty good despite being hard to keep together (typical of veggie burgers, esp. house-made). The veggie soup as a side was also good after a healthy dose of salt and pepper. For a drink, I was in need of a caffeine shot so I got their brewed coffee. It was surprisingly not weak/old despite it being 1:30 in the afternoon. Overall, would be my choice of the two restaurants within the SEKI national parks.

Amy F.

Yelp
I was actually shocked how bad this was. The menu at first seemed quite hopeful with some yummy-sounding bistro type items and lots of vegetarian choices. But the ordering was all on an automated touch screen, there was no staff to be found, the kitchen tucked away out of sight. Your food was called out by your order number and handed off to you by an anonymous black-clad staff member who then disappeared down their rabbit hole. The "plant-based burger" was actually a cold glob-patty of food-processed garbanzo beans (very bland in flavor, not falafel-like which would have been fine), pressed between two cold untoasted bun-halves, with a slice of tomato and a partial leaf of green lettuce and WAY too much sauce which had a weird sweet flavor to it. The "Chef's daily special vegetarian soup" could have been diced tomatoes out of a can heated up. Most of this food ended up in the trash, we only ate enough not to starve before our hike.

Esme P.

Yelp
It was difficult finding a place in the Sequoia National Park that served legit food so we were very thankful for this place. Before we found it we went to a lodge that only had overpriced frozen pizza. I ordered the wings from here and they were great! The burgers and salad were also good according to my family. They have a spacious outdoor eating area and the ordering and picking up is no contact which is nice. The bathrooms were also appreciated considering the majority of bathrooms in the park are outhouses. It was a nice location that I would definitely go to when I visit the park again!

Patricia N.

Yelp
The reason why I am not giving the Grant Grove Restaurant a five-star review is because of the way the food is ordered. It is convoluted. Because, for the most part, we're not at the height of a pandemic anymore, the ONE kiosk that is used to input the food order is certainly time-consuming and slow for those who are confused by this ordering process. Most people take too long when they're in front of it -- when there's a paper copy of the menu posted nearby. This is not efficient. When there's a line of people waiting, it's even more annoying that there isn't a live person to alleviate the wait. Not good! So now that I complained about the way the food order is taken, maybe somebody will fix this problem quickly. Other than that, the food was delicious. The chicken sandwich which I ordered was flavorful. The pesto spread was very delicious. In addition, my husband ordered the salad with sliced strawberries, and he raved that it was the best-tasting salad ever. The salad dressing, in particular, was "excellent."

Carl S.

Yelp
Good place for healthy lunch options in the National park. The soup is incredible and the burgers were good as well. It's a little pricey but understand since there aren't many options. Still well prepped and healthy and quick.

Thomas R.

Yelp
Ordered a burger and chili with no onions. The burger didn't have any onions, but the chili was covered in it. Chill was tasty and chunky. And as for the burger, I'm not sure at how the patty could be so cold if it was made-2-order. ‍ Very disappointing. They will get over one star due the the ordering app. Scan the QR code and your on your way.

Victoria T.

Yelp
We came here for breakfast. We got the yogurt, breakfast burrito with bacon, and breakfast bagel with sausage. It was easy to order and we quickly received our food. The food was good and our portions were filling. The restrooms are clean and have running water. This stop was a great start to our day in the park.

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast food in a beautiful forest setting. Has a computer kiosk system to order, and pick up at the window. And very clean restrooms!

Bill C.

Yelp
Very limited menu. We had the "jr ranger" breakfast, it was good, however not breakfast restaurant great. For dinner I had a burger two nights in a row due to the limited selection while my wife had a salad with chicken one night and the "gourmet grilled cheese" the next. Again, the burger was good, not great. The salad was surprisingly large and good while the grilled cheese was boring. The ordering system uses a kiosk and you pick up the food in a window. In min-May, this works fine, however I suspect during the peak season the system will be stressed.

Sheila C.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. The location is handy, cute and they have both front and back outdoor seating areas, but sadly this was not meant to be. I arrived at 4p on a Saturday afternoon. My friend and myself both ordered the chicken potpie. A small salad came with the entree but we did not have choice of dressing. The salad was small and the potpie was even smaller. The potpie was loaded with salt. Our waitress was either really busy, which I find hard to believe since there were only 6 tables and another waitress, or she was distracted by something else. We had to ask for her to take our order, we had to ask for her to get our check and we never did see her when we departed. My advise is to keep driving. There are other locations for dining in King's Canyon.

Kieren C.

Yelp
It was better than the food at Wuksachi, so that was a relief! Still pricey, though. The berry salad was awesome and huge. Kids burger and fruit cup were tasty and well worth the money. The trout sandwich was surprisingly good. Good chili. The worst thing was the kids grilled cheese. It is literally HALF of a grilled cheese sandwich. It was a joke.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
I went here with my fam for lunch while seeing the sights. They only had outdoor seating available which seemed alright. The food here tastes fine but it is a bit pricey, but the main problem is that there are so many bugs outside! They kept getting on our clothes and going on our food and especially in my salad and our water bottles, just everything! They're even small enough to crawl or get into our water containers so we had to empty and refill some of our bottles. Luckily the restroom area was open where it was clean and they had one of those water refill stations. I guess my family and I are not campy people but holy cow they were driving us insane!

Averie B.

Yelp
My family has fond memories of it back in the day (20-30 years now), and my parents always looked forward to the Blackberry Pie. Unfortunately, that pie is no longer there. In fact, the restaurant is not really there either--indoor seating is not permitted, and the kiosk where we had to order (no wait staff) was broken, so the screen would not light up and display the menu. I will say, the service window had our Mixed Berry pies ready in less than ten seconds (because they were pre-cut and boxed), but when we sat down to eat them, the berries and other fruit were half-frozen. It said berry but there was only a strawberry and then either peach or apple slices. They were frozen and tasteless. What was worse is that the mixed berry pie didn't taste like berries at all, but instead, there was a strong taste of Jalapeño...NOT what we were expecting. The restaurant did not serve Jalapeños, according to the window staff, so that means that the bakery who provided the pie mixed two products, either in the mixing/baking process or when cutting slices. Staff was kind, but I would certainly recommend staying away from the 'mixed berry' pie, especially if you do not want a taco taste in your dessert. Also, I would say be wary if you have allergies or intolerances.

Yelp
I rounded up and also graded on a national parks restaurant scale because I've been to a number and they always crush my soul with their poor dining options. This one is the best of the lot that I've experienced to date. The minus is that the service is slow seemingly because it's quite understaffed and often there is no host so don't be shy about going in and flagging down someone. I've come here for two breakfasts and two dinners. Each time the servers were friendly and kind as could be. And the food was decent. Breakfast: there is a buffet but I opted each time for the two egg special and found it satisfying though unseasoned. The over medium eggs were cooked as requested, the multigrain toast is quite tasty (though one day I got two, a little bit blackened but still tasty, the second day only one), the meat sausage is decent /standard diner fare, the vegan sausage had a good crunchiness on the outside but the flavor was a little wanting so I had to douse this in hot sauce, but the highlight is the perfectly crispy hash browns. It's done right, the potatoes tender. The granola here is fine though the yoghurt is sweetened with honey which I could do without. Onto dinner: the thinly sliced and breaded pork with a remolata (tomato based) sauce on top is quite crispy and delicious, a perfect post hike meal. The grilled veggies are forgettable and overly mushy but okay, and the scoop of rice that comes with it is over cooked and not worth eating. The personal pizza is quite nicely done and cheesy and thick yet crispy. Add whatever toppings: we were happy with pepperoni, olive, and mushrooms. Note that the onions here are uncooked. The veggie burger is a little mushy so perhaps skip. The side salads and cups of chili are solid. The dining took itself is striking: floor to ceiling glass windows to look out onto a green forest and meadow. Just don't be in a rush because getting seated and getting food takes awhile.

Yelp
Good food and ROI for the location along with significant vegetarian options. We got California flatbread, vegetarian burger with soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Everything was fresh and tasted good. Service was fast as well at both lunch and dinner times.

Yelp
The Grant Grove Restaurant gets the job done - decent food, good service, nice location next to a meadow and close to the lodge/cabins. In the winter, it can be really dark at dinner time but it's only a 5-7 minute walk from the John Muir Lodge to the restaurant. Just make sure you bring your flashlight or phone. Dinner - We had to wait a bit to get seated but there was enough space in the entryway to wait and warm up from the freezing temps outside. Service was quick and warm. My ribs were chewy (and not really trimmed) and could've used more time in the oven, but the chili was quite good and having fresh asparagus in late November was nice. The others in my group liked their steak and burger, so maybe it's just the ribs that weren't cooked long enough. Prices are a bit high, but you're in a national park in the middle of nowhere so what do you expect? Breakfast - We did the breakfast buffet so we could eat fairly quickly and get outside. There was a full buffet of yogurt, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, potatoes, muffins/bagels, and waffles. Since the waffles sat in a chafing dish the texture became sort of chewy. It was also a bit weird not to have a toaster for the bagels. I'm not sure anyone really wants cold bagels to start their day. Otherwise, the food was fine - similar to what you might have at a normal hotel buffet.

Yelp
I would rank this as average *** A-OKAY considering it's located in a National Park area and is one of the only local options for convenient dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food quality is okay and the portions are as well, depending upon what you order. The breakfasts seems like the least greatest (or let's say worst) of deals, but the dinner was a lot better. I saw others order the hamburger, steak and pizza, all looked like they represented to fulfill a hearty appetite well, especially the whole pizza, which looked shareable. The prices aren't gouging considering the location, being held captive in the area, but are also not that cheap either, but again, considering the location and situation as well as options, it's good enough and nothing to really truly complain about. The service can be a tad slow, even when the restaurant isn't full to capacity, I think maybe it's laid back and they want to give customers time to unwind, 'tho it's not super attentive and harder to get the bill as a proactive action on their part, so you usually have to get their attention to request your bill. That's not a complaint more than a comment, and it's better than feeling rushed out I guess, if you think of it that way.

Yelp
I am quite surprised at the low reviews of this place. We ate here because we were staying at Grant Grove cabins and it's walkable and very convenient. Also there's no other option of restaurant in this Kings Canyon area. We came here three times for dinner. My bf enjoyed the Tioga-Sequoia beers - Golden Ale and the Firefall. We had their Chicken wings, Grill cheese sandwich, Burger and Pizza. The toppings can add up. The food was actually pretty good, especially considering the place is in the middle of nowhere and located inside a national park. The service was ok but when they get busy, you have to get their attention. The price was decent. Definitely, sit outside on the patio overlooking the meadows. Twice we saw a deer and a family of squirrels are also out everyday. Enjoyed the dinner, fresh air and the view.

Yelp
They recently updated their menu although it still has some typos. We went there for lunch. All the beef is local, grass-fed angus. I had the Jr. Grant Burger and it was prepared just how I wanted it. It wasn't the best or the worst burger I've ever had. Service is slow but I think they are understaffed.

Yelp
As a person that likes to travel I am always on the look out to try new places outside of my local city. However, there's nothing much around and you can't expect too much from a national park restaurant. In addition, we were staying at the lodge so going anywhere else was not much of an option without making a trek. This place is at the most, okay. Just don't expect anything special. Service was slow but our waitress was nice. We just got the soup of the day and veggie pizza. The soup was actually pretty good and the veggie pizza was not good. It consisted of artichoke hearts, garlic, mushroom and olives. They just put way too much cheese so the dough was a little underdone and the garlic cloves were pretty crunchy still. They have good ingredients but I think they don't have a good chef/cook or whatever. We didn't like it so much, that we only ate about half of it and refused to take it to-go even though the waitress asked us literally 3 times if we wanted to take it to-go. Honestly, I just feel really bad for this place. If I were in a bad mood I would probably be giving this place a horrendous review. But I cannot be in a bad mood at such a beautiful place. Long story short, eat here with a grain of salt.

Yelp
This was a welcome retreat from the cold outside. We dined here twice and bought dinner to take home once during our recent vacation to Kings Canyon National Park. I chuckle as I read about all these negative reviews. This is not a place for fine dining. You're in the middle of a national park. Don't expect a fancy schmancy meal. The meals we ordered satisfied our hunger. I've tried their chicken wrap, Philly cheesesteak sandwich (a special that's not on the menu), pizza, chicken quesadilla, and street tacos. I would not recommend the chicken wrap. It was cold and sour because of the sauerkraut. Besides the sour, there wasn't any savory taste or anything to make the food taste good. It was cold and dry and hard to go down. The philly cheesesteak was the best thing we ordered! So delicious down to the last bite. I recommend getting their specials when they offer them. Their pizzas are pretty good too. Chewy hand-rolled crust! The chicken quesadilla was my second favorite. It was delicious! The kids loved it. And lastly, the street tacos were just alright. Nothing to write home about, really. We happened to visit during a non-busy season. So I didn't see the wait some people complained about. Despite some cons I mentioned above, I believe the pros far outweigh them! It's close to the entrance and Grant Grove. So you can enter the park, eat lunch, and be on your way for a hike at Grant Grove. This makes planning a trip with little ones so much easier!

Yelp
Honestly an underrated spot inside King's Canyon National Park! Prices are good and reasonable for being inside a national park!!! The restaurant is closed but there is quite a bit of outdoor seating. Side note: use the restaurant's bathrooms... much cleaner and nicer than the bathrooms next to the visitor center!!! I got the Chicken Sandwich with a side cup of chili for $12.95! Large, but thin piece of grilled chicken. There is also a really good pesto sauce! You can't go wrong with the chili either! Definitely a steal and really filled me up. My Dad got the Grant Burger 4oz for $8. Looked pretty good too. Definitely recommend this place for a quick lunch/bite to eat before hitting the lake or exploring the park!

Yelp
When in Rome, eat pizza. When in a National Park, eat pizza. My made-up aphorism (perhaps an afauxrism?) happens to be true when eating at Grant Grove Restaurant. I think they realize their short-comings since the gnocchi and schnitzel were removed from the dinner menu. I thought I was ordering conservatively with a diner favorite like meatloaf. The texture of the meatloaf was fine but oddly unidentifiable flavors from the gravy and smashed red potatoes was disturbing. Like the meatloaf, the char-grilled Grant burger had proper beef but the side of very cold pasta salad had a tinge of mystery flavor. The rule for dinner is to order salad and pizza. The simple Caesar salad and the enormous gorgonzola and pear salad were good bets. The four-cheese personal pizza with puffy crust was the "go to" item. Be sure to order the pizza and not the roughly assembled pesto flatbread appetizer. The wine was the best thing we had. The small wine list was full of unswerving California wines like the MacMurray pinot noir, William Hill cabernet sauvignon, and Louis Martini cabernet sauvignon. The low markup on the bottle prices were bargains. Spirits are not served but can be found in the neighboring building at the Grant Grove Market (also the post office). Dinner entree portions were on the small size and consequently overpriced while the breakfast plates were traditional American caloric overloads like the ham-heavy Western omelet with hash browns and generic fruit cup. The restaurant is walking distance from the John Muir Lodge and Grant Grove Cabins.

Yelp
So a 2 star for service and a 4 star for food. And to be honest, a lot of this has to do with comparison with a previous hotel near Yosemite. The food was good, a little pricy but it's not easy to get up there and I imagine that it's a little costly to get things to Grant Grove. I had a variety of dishes 3 dinners in a row and was not disappointed. They have a good variety and rotating specials each night. Now while the service staff was nice, it was painfully slow. I am not sure if it's understaffed or whatever, but it took 2 hours from sitting down to leaving 2 of our 3 nights. We heard people complain and a few people who left because the service was so slow. The hotel we stayed at near by said that after 630 there was often a wait due to popularity. And our first night we got there about 7pm. We did wait maybe 30min for a table but the service was quick and efficient. So our 2nd two nights we went around 530 to avoid the crowd. And while we got seated immediately, our time there was exponentially longer. Don't come starving, have something to read/games to play, and have the expectation you won't have a quick meal. With those things covered, you'll enjoy it.

Yelp
Went here a few months ago for dinner. Food was good, decent price for the location. The waitress was not very good and went missing for most of the meal which is why the missing star. I think it was just a bad night for the waitress. I would go back.

Yelp
Veggie burger was delicious! Clean restrooms nearby and gift shop to look while you wait.
