We booked a castle view room for 2 nights. We arrived early to check in and were told our room was ready! The staff were excellent and helpful. One staff member gave us suggestions on different restaurants. Other staff on different shifts were also welcoming and patiently answered our questions. The location is prime; we could walk to the Castle, Old Mile, and the Cathedral within 15 minutes. There are many eateries, shops, and the Harry Potter Museum just 3 minutes away! If you're a first-timer in Edinburgh, this is a great place to stay in the city center. It can be quite noisy since the hotel is on Grassmarket; once we closed the window, it was quiet. The room is basic and clean with a comfortable bed. The buffet breakfast is good with lots of variety and one additional choice from the menu. I gave a 4 stars because the handicapped accessibility is tricky. You need to climb about 10 steps to get to the lobby and then 5 steps to the elevator. There is a ramp outside the hotel to reach the sitting area by the elevator, but it's not convenient.

We had a great stay here for 2 nights. You can't beat the location and I was genuinely surprised how quiet our top-floor rooms were...must be the 2-foot thick walls. A/C was effective the few times we used it which was a surprising luxury to have, and our mattresses were comfy. Our room was clean if a bit tight, but that was to be expected of the whole structure of the hotel given how old it is. Breakfast was in the adjoining pub which was a bit dark and on small sticky tables but there was no denying the food was very tasty and the wait staff was friendly. If you want a nice base of operations for a royal mile visit and don't mind tight quarters, its a good one!

Absolutely fantastic location. Middle of everything. You can get to pretty much all the tourist attractions and the train station in a 10 minute walk. Friendly staff, decent rooms, good bathrooms, and ac in unit. I’ll only say that we were on the 3rd floor away from the pub. We could not hear it. But if you are on the first or even second toward the front of the building, you most likely will hear the pub… a lot. Our room was kind of odd to get to. Lift only went up one floor and then we had to take 2 flights of stairs and a couple of doors. Only other complaint is that the blinds on the window weren’t much, so make sure you have a sleep mask if coming in the summer months. But other than that. Had a great stay for two nights!

All of the staff were helpful and friendly. We had a very hospitable welcome. The location is perfect! We could come and go all day in between museum visits and exploring the city. We chose the optional breakfast with Biddy Mulligan’s and it was excellent! We’re a family of 4 with young adult children- this was the perfect place for our Edinburgh trip.

Excellent room with Castle view. The room was nicely furnished. Centrally located with quick access to the castle and royal mile. Nearby to many sites of interest, Greyfriars, Grassmarket, Prince's street is a 15 minute walk away with larger stores for shopping. Nearby restaurants allow for food dining choices.

Location was great, right next to Edinburg Castle. Loved the city vibe, prepare to WALK and exercise with hills and hidden passages/stairs-neat experience. Breakfast was okay-went once in 3 days of stay. could be improved on, or eat outside of hotel.

My daughter and I spent 2 nights at Grassmarket Hotel. The hotel is in the heart of the city life and there were so many lively pubs, restaurants, and coffee shops within steps of our front door. The hotel itself only offers packaged snacks and drinks, but it is connected to a pub. The rooms are a tad on the small size, but we found it cozy. The blackout curtains made for the best 2 nights of sleep during a week of travel, because the sun rises so early there in the summer! The bathroom is updated and well stocked. The front door staff members were incredibly helpful with suggestions for shopping and problem solving a glitchy tv remote.

If this was a low budget hotel this review would be better. But for the price, this hotel wasn't great. We stayed there because we thought we got a great deal. It basically worked out to almost $400 Canadian. I wouldn't stay in this area again (which i know is not the hotels fault). The room was fairly spacious but low ceilings and basically at street level. Could literally have a conversation with the people walking by. The plus side of our side of the location is that we weren't above the pub which stays open until 1:00 pm. Plus - the staff were friendly and let us sure our bags, no hassles for as long as we liked. The bathroom was new and modern. The beds were comfortable
