Gratitude Heritage is a very efficiently run heritage hotel in the heart of Pondicherry. Essentially a heritage property converted into a hotel, it's a charming space to spend a weekend. The staff are warm and friendly and service is attentive. ||We booked Room 4 via the hotel website which turned out to be smaller than the pictures shown. The pictures showed a room with an additional bed, but when we arrived at the hotel, we saw a dressing table occupying the space where the extra bed would have been. ||When we highlighted this to the staff, they were quick to recognize the error and volunteered to upgrade us to a better, spacious room. We appreciated their honesty and sincerity in ensuring we had a great experience. The room was spacious with a traditional 4 poster bed and the bathroom was large and equipped with natural soaps. ||We did a day trip to Pichavaram Mangrove, the 2nd largest mangrove in the world, and the kitchen staff packed us the most delicious breakfast of croissant sandwiches for our trip. We could call for filter coffee multiple times in the day throughout our teip and the breakfast the next day was modest but freshly made and homely. We sat at a common, large dining table, a community experience that I quite enjoyed. ||The hotel courtyard has plenty of greenery and spaces to sit and enjoy some quiet time. All in all, a great stay in Pondicherry.

I arrived in Chennai on August 21st and took a taxi to Gratitude. The GPS was very helpful, and most taxi drivers are familiar with the location. Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed by the lovely staff, who quickly showed me to my room. The space was pleasant and cozy, with a beautiful view. One of my favorite things about Gratitude is its peaceful, laid-back atmosphere—it’s the perfect place to relax. I highly recommend making breakfast a priority during your stay. Shanti, the chef, pours her heart into preparing delicious meals, including some really great food and fresh juice. If you're looking for a calm, peaceful, and safe travel experience, Gratitude is an excellent choice. The place is not only hygienic and secure but also easily accessible. You're close to the ocean, the ashram, churches, museums, restaurants, and plenty of options for exploring!

Sabine is a lovely lady and a wonderful host. Her team attended to whatever was needed with a smile. The location of the heritage house is excellent, near to the beach and all good cafes. The house is beautiful surrounded by all greenery. Highly recommend the place!

Loooove the place! We visited pondi recently and I had booked a room at gratitude for 3 nights. The location is excellent, located in the French quarter and walking distance to the most popular landmarks in Pondy-cafés, churches, galleries, restaurants and the rock beach promenade. The interiors and vibe of the place is stunning, they’ve done such a great job with restoring this heritage property (VMF certified) without taking away from its old world ‘south India meets Portuguese’ charm. It’s no wonder that everyone who walks past the place always stops to take pictures against the mustard-colored entrance wall. The breakfast was ok, I expected more as I’d read rave reviews about breakfast here. The staff who work here are very sweet and helpful, Vicky in particular. If you’re lucky enough, you may even make friends with meenatchi, the property cat. The only drawback I’d say is that there’s this unmissable stench of old cat urine in 1-2 rooms on the ground floor, which was unpleasant and particularly bothersome to my husband who is allergic to cat hair and dander. On request, we were promptly shifted to another room which also had a little bit of that smell, but more manageable than the first room allotted to us. Aside from that, I highly recommend this property to anyone who visits Pondy.

Beautiful property with lovely, heritage rooms and common areas. A relaxing place to stay and well located in the French Quarter. Service is good. It’s a guest house rather than a hotel so don’t expect the same level of facilities. Breakfast is slow to get going in the morning. They said it was from 8.30 but that was when stuff started to come out. It was tasty and relaxed but not if you are in a hurry.

On my second visit to Gratitude Heritage this year, I found no other place as captivating as this quaint home in Pondicherry. From the magnificent entrance door with its antique locking mechanism to the four-post beds, antique comb collection, and ceramic kettle, every corner evoked a sense of history. The spacious veranda graciously giving way to the branches of old trees, ironclad swing, & indoor furniture transported me back to the pages of ancient history books. Though the food was average, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and eagerly look forward to my next visit to Pondicherry.

The best stay one can experience in Pondicherry. Had gone there with my wife. Well maintained rooms and home cooked breakfast. Bathrooms were clean and neat. The entire place was clean and had good ambience. Would highly recommend for family. The staffs were also very helpful and cooked us breakfast based on our preference.
