Graetzlhotel Belvedere (Vienna, Austria) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In the hotel world, truly new ideas are few and far between. A trio of Viennese architects, however, has hit upon one, turning a handful of vacant (and separate) shopfronts in Vienna’s fourth district into a sort of distributed hotel, which goes by the name of Graetzlhotel Belvedere. The idea is that you’re something of an urban explorer — one of a handful of disused ground-floor shopfronts serves as your room, and for the rest of the services a hotel normally provides, you’ve got the very civilized city of Vienna at your disposal." - Tablet Hotels

Firstly, the key safe code system was not working, I had to ring the office to get a key down to me and got snapped at by the call responder when stated I had been waiting in the cold for a while and the code wasn’t working. My first night was extremely cold, the heating wasn’t working, I sent an email the next morning to complain about this and instead of getting a response to advise me of the solution, they didn’t respond, they just sent a man to my room, I was in the shower when he arrived and didn’t hear he was knocking, next thing I knew he was getting into the room and I had to fly out of the shower, grabbed a robe and shouted to stop him from coming in. What I expected was for the office to obviously inform me that they were sending someone to check the heating out. As if that wasn’t enough, few minutes after that happened, I had 2 men also try to get in the room, when I asked what they wanted, I was told they were there to check that the fire hydrant is safe for me. Why wasn’t the fire hydrant tested before I checked in. As a frequent female solo traveller this is the first place I stayed that I felt this unsafe. I was anxious the rest of my stay there, luckily no one else turned up but the first two times left me with anxiety. They need to learn to properly communicate with the occupants that’s the whole point of getting our contact information isn’t it.

Falsely advertises AC, see image. I'm sure this would be a nice place to stay in the winter, but it is summertime here and the room is 83° f / 28° c. No windows to open for ventilation. This is unacceptable. They do provide a fan, but it's a Band-Aid. I will be asking for a refund. Edit. I was going to revise this review, however the owner confronted me the next morning and gave me a sob story about how the Google algorithm is to blame for bad information. If you care so much about your Google reviews then say on top of your Google maps information. Also, you pride yourself in being an architect and small business owner, then design in some AC and own up to this issue. I see reviews from years ago about this problem. Yes, I booked through your website via Google Maps. Like you say, it says nowhere about having AC or lacking it. Perhaps you should make this clearer if you want better ratings. Also I did call last night and was told 1) there is AC (false), 2) It was too late to transfer rooms, and 3) that it was not possible to issue a refund and that no promises could be made the next morning. If I could give below 1 star I would. Stay away.

Quiet, nice location 3-5 minutes from the metro and 2 stations from the center. You can also walk 20-30 minutes to the center. Another nice compliment from the hotel was a bottle of wine. the room had everything including an iron, coffee machine, glasses, corkscrew, etc.

At the last moment they informed us that the flat I had booked for my daughter since many months ago, for the Xmas holiday, is no longer part of their offer. What shall I say!! It's unacceptable and makes us feel miserable.

The hotel is a short walk & 2 stops away from the city centre, which was perfect for us! The interior is unique and had everything we needed for a 4 night stay. We initially went to the wrong building, but the reception staff were incredibly helpful and checked us in, and gave us the welcome pack.

The girls at the office were nice, they even helped us drag our heavy luggage to our room (which was a whole two blocks away from the office - and it was pouring cats and dogs that time). But other than that and the big and comfortable bed, everything else was awful. We were shocked when we got to our room because it was COMPLETELY different from what we saw on the photos. |FIRST, they gave us only one set of room keys.|SECOND, the room has an “unfinished effect” sort of style. Concrete walls and floors, heavy duty vault-like doors. It’s basically an industrial work site that was turned into a bedroom. We didn’t mind that much to be honest, but was horrified to see a very dusty floor and clumped strands of hair when our son’s toy rolled under the bed. The sheets were smelly and the glasses dirty.|THIRD, as the floor is concrete and no carpet whatsoever, it’s cold to walk on. The small portable radiator minimally heated the room but not the floor. |FOURTH, room cleaning is only provided every three days. Meaning, no fresh linens and even the garbage bins aren’t cleaned out. We stayed here for three nights and for all those days, we had to empty and bring out our own garbage (dirty diapers and all). |I can’t say enough about how unpleasant our accommodation was. One thing is for sure, I am NOT RECOMMENDING this “hotel.”|

Loved the room. Amenities were great. The only thing challenging was how confusing it was to get the key. It’s more like an Air BnB. Thankfully my phone worked and they answered the phone and gave me instructions to get the key. It’s a stand alone silver door with a keypad for a code to release the key into the tray. They had an espresso machine and tea kettle. Could have used black tea, only had green/herbal tea. Nice mini bar though. Beautifully decorated and fluffy robes and slippers. Not far from Altstadt 😊

We stayed in Karmelitermarkt which is short walk from the center of Vienna. Also short walk to Ubahn station. Apartment was nice and spacious for two. Windows to inner yard made it very quiet and peaceful. Check in was easy and got to take luggage in earlier. Apartment was very cold when we first arrived and adjusting the heat made a hot like a sauna. So adjusting the heat was a bit tricky in December weather. Beds were very comfortable. You really don't want to run out of toilet paper during your vacation so we had to go and buy more ourselves. Also coffee and tea in the apartment doesn't last longer than one day. Luckily two grocery stores can be found around the corner.
