Absolutely charming spot with a lovely vintage vibe and a thoughtfully curated selection of local goods and beautiful plants. A true gem for anyone who appreciates character and craftsmanship!

Gravel & Gold has so many unique beautifully crafted clothes, bags, home decor, accessories and so much more. The concept design is original with one of a kind pieces, prints, styles. I’m loving the earthy, wooden vibe! Their hammock inside is truly a masterpiece! I loved sitting on it and laying back.

Customers remember the service a lot longer than they remember the price!!!!! - Unprofessional customer service with undertone of rudeness and annoyance with out of state call. (the call was made due to website being down, orders could not be placed) - After displayed frustration, store representative took the order and requested that the payment had to be done via emailed invoice. - The invoice was never sent. Payment was obviously not completed. Call was placed again first thing in the morning. - Unfortunately, the order was never placed via phone by the store rep. during the original phone call. - Numerous phone calls had to be made again with each store representative being annoyed and frustrated. Rude, nasty and unprofessional. Being busy during the holidays is not an excuse to treat customers this way. Solutions: - If you are too busy to take calls, set up your invoice. Let customers know that during the holidays you are unable to answer calls and/or process orders. - Check your website daily to see if orders can be placed. Fix it so orders can be easily placed on line and NO calls have to be made. - Train your staff how to be professional, responsive, empathetic, knowledgeable and consistent. - Hire additional help to take orders via phone during the holidays season.

Love Gravel & Gold! Wonderful curation of goods by local, small batch and handmade brands alongside their clothing line. A really cool space too! Such a gem in our SF community. Grateful for the Gravel & Gold team!

Yelp
Very nice service. I went to buy an item and on that one day it was 30% to my surprise. People were very nice. it wasn't an advertised sale and it was worth $80.

Yelp
I was visiting from out of town and went to the Mission neighborhood to look at some shops and eat a meal. I showed up at this location and there was a sign stating that they would be back in 15 but had no time listed. I waited outside for about 10 minutes before I saw someone pass through the back so I knocked. Someone came up to the door and I asked (politely I may add) when they would be open. She said she was on break and I asked till what time because there's no note of that. They gave me a blank look and acted as if I was being so disruptive. I totally would have waited but because they were so rude I left.

Yelp
I adore this store! It's this adorably tiny boutique with so many unique items kind of off the beaten path of 21st Street. I love the atmosphere as well. They have a split front door so when it's really beautiful weather they can open just the top half of the door. There's a great bench out front that says 'no elephant show today'. The employee there was also super helpful with making a purchase, but I liked how she just let people peruse. Great shop and I highly recommend.

Yelp

Yelp
Another stop in Misison boutique day. By the looks of pictures on Yelp and from the impression I got from standing outside the store, I thought Gravel & Gold would be one of my favorites. Not so. There isn't a lot of "stuff" to be bought. It felt more like an eclectic hipster showroom than a store. And like another reviewer said, there was only one rack of clothes and they were all too "gardener-mom like". In that sense, women's clothing category isn't really accurate here. I felt like it's more of a overall lifestyle, the alternative anthropology kind of place. Maybe a little too cool for school for me. Also, it's a pretty pricy place.

Yelp
I like the odd items here... the hollow, dripless candles made in France, the intoxicating oil fragrances from Oregon, the locally handmade wooden chairs that convert into step-ladders. Best of all, I love the Dori Midnight products, and hope to take one of her workshops here someday. I appreciate the interactive playfulness here. One rainy evening I attended a dinner event where they served homemade noodle soup and everyone sat around the big wooden table. I've seen fresh baked bread for sale here, and lounging on the big window seat cushions is encouraged. One of the owners bartered with my friend a pocket knife in exchange for a promised sandwich (which he hasn't yet delivered)! This is a place for chance and magic. A place to linger and discover surprises.

Yelp
Couldn't be a nicer or more welcoming space, and they have something at every price point, so you can walk out with an insane one-of-a-kind rocker leather jacket, cosy boots, a pillow made from vintage print, antique jewelery, a flowing dress, a stripy shirt... You can tell these women love what they are doing, really appreciate quality craftsmanship and relish filling this tiny shop up as though it were a treasure chest you'd found...

Yelp
I don't get this place. There was one rack of vintage-esque clothes. The rest of the store was nearly completely filled with a pretty awesome looking table with a smattering of wares for sale. I'm not sure how they pay the rent. I don't think I'd go back again.

Yelp
I really couldn't love this tiny shop more--every time I walk in, I find something that makes me look over my shoulder to make sure I don't have to fight someone else off for it. It's the perfect place to find an unusual gift for someone or, say, yourself... I love the mix of perfectly chosen antiques and vintage clothes, and great stuff by local designers, some of it commissioned by the owners. These ladies have great, great, great taste.

Yelp
I like it. If my supertailor/ denim specialist Holly hadn't found a home here, I might not have made it in... but once I did, I found a lovely, nicely chosen array of cool books and zines for all types of DIY-hearted folks, and even some affordable clothes and stylish trinkets for the fellows (not just ladies). I go in to get denim help from Holly, and leave with a little something extra for my apartment. I like it.

Yelp
Lived in a typical hippie commune in this city throughout the 1970's. The store is like a museum for all the stuff we wore, lived with, slept under, ate off, read. Kinda like deja vu!! but with 2011 price tags. Advice to proprietors: say hello to ALL people who come in, even it they don't fit into your "model" customer mold. Try it, it will make a world of difference and it only takes a sincere smile and a kind word. Really. I felt I was intruding into a club that didn't accept new members without a recommendation from someone else. Was it my grey hair? Oh, well. Also, try to find vintage copies of "The Whole Earth Catalogue" to sell in your store, it's the bible of all hippie books.

Yelp
This is the type of store i need to see more of.. It's perfect. Small, focused, and to the point. A great mix of vintage and new with even a few surprises (like a Nudie original..) thrown in. The owners know the history behind what they sell, which is so rare these days in retail, don't miss this spot. Self Edge loves Gravel & Gold por vida.

Yelp
I stopped by Gravel and Gold's clothing swap last night. I am a skinny long armed guy but to my amazement managed to find a beautiful long sleeved corduroy shirt and a wool jacket. A also bought an awesome stripped wool undershirt that they sell for only $20. Wow, I couldn't believe how cheap that was. They carry a lot of other odds and ends, stuff they think is cool that they find at flea markets and many other places. There will be something new every time you stop by. The owners, Cass and Nile were there and they were awesome. Just as stylish as their fabulous boutique!

Yelp
This place rocks! Got some lovely ultra comfy normcore shirts here and discovered my new dream scent, Dark Wave by Olo. Beautiful store with beautiful things. We literally spent at least an hour here. It's more like a play place for people who like to shop. Great curated jewelry and they make their own awesome printed textiles. Everything is special. Leah in charge is the most lovely shop keeper and gave us a special guide they made to their favorite stuff to do in SF. Can't wait to come back and visit next time I'm in town!

Yelp
I rarely venture out of my neighborhood - but this is the kind of place you get excited about while you are heading over there - you know? So many beautiful things to look at! I love my super soft tank tops and the vintage embroidered top I bought. Thank you thank you for the nice chat and the pretty items.

Yelp
Gravel & Gold is a new store opening up on Treat St just north of the intersection with 18th. I have the pleasure of knowing the three ladies opening up the shop. They have really remarkable taste in clothing, furniture and decor. They specialize in vintage housewares and locally designed clothing and decor. It's really worth going in to check out the space also. They turned a cinder block room into an awesome wood paneled space with the help of Keith Alderholdt of Mollusk surf shop. I just moved into a new apartment that has quite a bit of space and I asked the Gravel and Gold girls to help me decorate and they took me to a number of flea markets to find furnishing so I got to see them in action. My place looks amazing. I believe they are also doing interior design consulting. Go stop in when it opens on April 25th! Ask for Cassie, Lisa, or Nile.

Yelp
What an amazing store that I'd never seen before. My friends and I attended an herb lecture the other evening, held in this charming space. Lots of great candles, lotions, clothes for both men and women, blankets, dishes, jewelry, etc. etc. to choose from. Definitely need to swing by here again to browse for more fun items!

Yelp
One star for quality of products, one star for selection. Any decent boutique should have a good selection of quality products. What separates these types of shops is customer service, which is worth three stars. Unfortunately, this place gets 0 out of 3 for customer service. The shop guy was barely responsive to my questions about some mugs and plates I was interested in purchasing. It seemed a monumental effort to get a nod, grunt, or, oh, the effort, a monosyllabic answer. This while he kept wandering away to straighten piles rather than paying attention to a purchasing customer. There were not a lot of other people in the store either. Then, he mentions a 25% off sale that ended the day BEFORE I came in on Labor Day. I won't rant on ending a sale before Labor Day, but I asked if he could extend the 25% off considering I was spending $300+. I even made it clear that I would buy more items with the extra savings, so they would have made the same amount either way. "No." I asked if the owners were in the shop so I could ask them. "No." Will I be going back here again? In a word, "No."

Yelp
i like to think i have a quasi-cosmic connection with this place. i bought a blue and white striped fisherman's shirt that i basically wear every single day. i love it a little too much. i bought a small, simple throw pillow that i snuggle up to every night while i'm dreaming up silly dreams. i always have wonderful conversations with co-founder cass, whom i believe to be somewhat of a kindred spirit. it's just a really really happy place. UPDATE: this place just get better and better! i brought my elderly mother in here and they were so kind to her! she left in such a great mood. they were also super nice to my sister when she came into town and visited the shop. these are the types of good people that make me love san francisco....not just for their impeccable tastes, but for their warmth and friendliness.

Yelp
my goal in life has just become to make enough money that I can buy one of everything in this store. fine, I'm slightly exaggerating, BUT I will say that this may be my new favorite SF boutique. and definitely my favorite shop in the mission. from the carefully selected woodsy incense menagerie to the fjallraven backpacks and saint james stripey tunics. I was instantly ready to drop some serious dough here. if I had said serious dough to be dropped. find me here next pay day.

Yelp
Gravel and Gold has a little bit of everything including some amazing stationary. I picked up an awesome bag and a great pair of earrings last week. The owners have excellent taste. It's the perfect place to find a really cool gift for someone.

Yelp
This store is more than just an eclectic hub for clothing and notebooks, but a full-on cabinet of curiosity! On a mediocre December afternoon I wondered into G&G with a heavy heart and left with new sources of inspiration and a more jovial outlook on the new year. The owner acted more like a bartender-therapist than a salesman (which ended up saving me from an afternoon gin binge and an ill-planned move to NYC). A previous comment says "Buyer Beware" based on the fact that there is a no return policy. Trust me when I say that you will never buy anything regrettable from G&G. It is a small business managed by people who go out of their way to provide the most unique finds for their clients. Go there, spend money, leave rich.

Yelp
This shop is amazing! I grew up in Marin and this joint really captures the aesthetic of the best of the Marin County of olde's nature inspired style, while at the same time showcasing work of new artists. It makes me feel at home, but also manages to be on-trend. I am blown away by the artistry and taste level of the items in the place -- if only I could afford/justify those $160ish geode earrings!. I settled my shopping hungry brain by purchasing affordable, amazingly well made stripey shirts instead. The wooden table sectioning off the two sides of the room is beyond. Just beyond. Were I rich, I would single handedly support this store by snatching up the gorgeous jewelry, hand made furniture and vintage clothing/housewares in a snap! Places like this are why I live here. True eye candy and the best kind of inspiration.

Yelp
I hate the California-in-the-70s aesthetic (see Audrey B.'s accurate assessment). I hate macramé and muumuus and the haughty hipsters who often run shops that sell them. But I love Gravel and Gold. They're nice. They make you feel that it's okay to come in and look around at the laborers' longjohns, plastic pitchers, nifty neti pots, and righteous ramekins. And while it's not for the impecunious it's not pitilessly pricey either.

Yelp
SUCH a cute, clean and organized store. loved all of the items they carry. it's pricey but what aesthetics! the fragrances smell really good too

Yelp
hand picked previously owned old fashioned accoutrements, and shiny, glassy moderny materials in the shapes of bags, clothing, gloves and art. you dont have to be a fem to find something you like here. even i, an incidental shopper passed by, entered, and scored. these ladies are sweet and have impecable taste.
google avatar

melissa s.

Yelp
They carry Fjallraven back packs! They are the exact same price as online without the shipping cost from Sweden. If I had the money I'd pretty much buy out the store. Oh and the locally made clothes are amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
love the store. but love these girls even more. xo to lisa, cass & nile!

Yelp
I really love Gravel and Gold! What a fitting name too. If you seriously look amongst the gravel, you might just find gold, for real. From a 5 year diary to a vintage kimono to a one of kind salt and pepper shaker, you pretty much can find something to buy in this little shop and walk away knowing that you are the only person on earth that probably owns what you just bought. The shop girl is very nice and helpful. The last great thing about this place -- the jewelry. Although not the biggest selection, the jewels they do have are classic bling. Not some crazy hip hop cross or doorknockers, we're talking gorgeous pieces that go with, like, everything. All for a decent price. The stuff looks like vintage Gump's, no joke. Pay G&G a visit because you'll get the warm fuzzies, most definitely.
google avatar

Mel P.

Yelp
Cute stuff for your home, for your wardrobe, for others...This is the place you go to when you want new gift ideas. It is pricey but worth it because this is the stuff that you wouldn't find anywhere else. Very vintage...I like I like.

Yelp
super cute store. just eclectic enough to be interesting; not eclectic enough to be weird & unwearable. i bought a great bright yellow leather messenger bag from them a few weeks ago. had my usual bout of buyers remorse, but now i'm really glad i got it. my esthetician, kim of skinsalvations, is upstairs so i make a point of stopping by this little store whenever i see kim.

Yelp
Gravel & Gold is everything I'm looking for in a store--superb design aesthetic, wickedly awesome accessories, and badass clothing in a tiny adorable package. It's surprisingly affordable, considering how chic it is, and the store owners are super cute. I snagged a few awesome t-shirts, and am totally planning on doing my christmas shopping here, for unique and lovely jewelry. It's my new favorite guilty (but not too guilty) pleasure.

Evleen a.

Yelp
Eclectic, artsy, original, dynamic, affordable AND run by a warm 'N wonderful crew, that's Gravel & Gold, recently relocated to 21st St & Lexington, half a block from trendy, happening Valencia Street. A very different store. Check them out! A bit like doing art galleries, unique boutiques & grandma's attic all at once!

Yelp
More gold than gravel. This place is full of amazing finds, I just wish I could afford something. From the delicate local jewelry to the beautiful hand-carved wooden cups and bowls, you'll want to move into the small space. Gravel and gold is simultaneously fantastic and a little disappointing, I can't justify actually buying anything, but I LOVE everything! I just love knowing it's there. Keep on making me drool, please.

Lauren Q.

Yelp
This shop is such an amazing find--the vintage bags, clothing, art and accessories are incredibly unique and walking into the small store is like walking into a treasure chest. My first time there, I found a fabulous t-shirt, and will definitely be back soon. Its clear that each piece, whether it be jewelry, a vintage dress, etc... was chosen with an immense amount of care and enthusiasm.

Leilani R.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite boutiques in San Francisco. The store is beautiful and full of eye candy. Prices are great and the space is just lovely.
