14 Martha’s Vineyard Travel Outfits to Pack

"When I head up island I often go to Great Rock Bite for beach days with family and friends, and like other Vineyard shorelines I pack a fashionable, practical beach bag and a cover-up that can function as a dress for whatever the day brings." - Kristin Braswell Kristin Braswell Kristin Braswell is a travel journalist and the founder of CrushGlobal Travel. Not a lot of parking, but if you can get a spot here, you can walk down to the beach and then up to the brickyard.

The hiking trail was beautiful, with trees providing plenty of shade, allowing you to walk comfortably in the shadows. There is also a path from the trail leading to a super peaceful beach where you can stay for hours and enjoy the sound of the ocean or soak up the sun if you want to get a tan. It feels like a private beach with very clean, bright water and sandy shores. During the hike, you’ll also pass by a stunning pond that adds to the beauty of the experience. One thing to note is that the parking spots are limited, and there is a sign indicating that they may turn you around if the spots are full. We went in the morning and did not have a problem finding a parking spot. Overall, it's a wonderful place to relax, refresh, and enjoy the quietness, trees, and ocean all together.

The Great Rock Nature Preserve is an absolute gem that seamlessly weaves together nature's beauty and historical significance. As I explored the trails, I was awestruck by the breathtaking landscapes that unfolded before me. The journey to the stunning beach was a mesmerizing adventure, taking me through diverse ecosystems that showcased the vibrant tapestry of Martha's Vineyard. But what truly makes this preserve exceptional is its connection to the African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard. Walking in the footsteps of history added a profound layer of meaning to my visit. Each step felt like a bridge between the past and the present, allowing me to connect with the rich heritage of this remarkable island. The preservation efforts taken here are evident in every corner, from the well-maintained trails to the informative markers that guide you along the way. This dedication to preserving both the natural beauty and cultural significance of the area is truly commendable. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking a place of tranquil beauty, the Great Rock Nature Preserve has it all. It's not just a place to hike; it's a journey through time and nature that leaves an indelible mark on your heart and soul.

This was a perfect out of the way type of place to go when the skies got cloudy. A very short (2mi round trip for the main trail) with with light-moderwate inclines (steep steps and cobbled paths). The overlook was quite scenic and the beach had great soft sand along with well weathered stones everywhere with a low tide. Would definitely like to see it again when the weather is nicer. The limited parking and pathway in makes it quite secluded as well!

Great birding, lots of warblers in May. Beautiful view from the overlook. Short sandy beach

One of my favorite trails on the island. Short loop with beautiful beach access. Highly recommend.

Nice hiking trail to a very picturesque beach. Even though it's not a long trail, it is moderate in intensity. The steeper sections do have steps though, so not too bad. Make sure you bring water with you if it's warm out. And of course, your camera once you get to the beach.

Our fav beach in MV. Short hike from the parking lot then great small sandy beach with calm water. Perfect spot for sunset.
