we had a wonderful experience. The room was spotless and nicely decorated. we slept great- the bed was very comfortable. Our adult children stayed in one of the geodesic domes and they said it was very comfortable ( even had a heater). Our room was furnished with a microwave and full size refrigerator. Outside the room we had a private patio where we could watch the sun set and rise over the dunes- gorgeous. Dont be fooled by the exterior photos- this place is a gem!!

I Couldn’t have found a better place close by. The staff is super friendly and will give you details about the lodge on arrival. The Aspen trailer has everything you need inside. The bed is comfy, the air conditioner is a little loud but I was able to sleep during the night. I would highly recommend for the views alone. Enjoy!

I was hesitant to stay here due to exterior photo and some reviews. This is a lodge not a resort or fancy hotel. It is the location and the patio view of Great Sand Dunes and the night sky that sets this lodge apart. It was clean. We stayed in a 2 queen bed room in the lodge. There is a small round table and 2 chairs on the patio. We enjoyed sitting out and enjoying a glass of wine at sunset. There is a plastic table and chairs inside as well. I liked that the sink and mirror were located apart from the toilet and tub/shower. The front desk sells Papa Murphy pizzas for $20. There are ovens in the lobby for you to cook it and pizza cutter and pizza boxes available. Breakfast is grab and go with a variety of: hard boiled eggs, waffles, yogurts, cereals, pop tarts, muffins etc. Trays are provided for you to eat in your room or patio. The major negatives of the room were: handle was missing on sliding glass door( secured with bar), one of the queen beds is 2 inches from the wall air conditioner/ heater, there was only 1 trash can in the room. Despite this, the location close to the National Park and the views of the Dunes cannot be beat

Very clean and great location. My screen door wasn't attached which was a bit of a bummer. I would've loved to have the door open but too many flies. Nothing available for people with gluten issues for breakfast (glad I bring my own stuff). Very nice staff and Peppermint the kitty is adorable. The views are wonderful also!!

The location can’t be beat if you’re looking to get an early morning in at Great Sand Dunes National Park. Rooms were very roomy with a fantastic view. Parking is incredibly convenient. Hotel staff is very accommodating when it comes to late check in, you just have to call ahead. Our room had direct TV which was great and unexpected. Morning breakfast had a good selection of grab and go items.

This gets a two simply because it is in close proximity to the wonderful dunes. ||From there, it’s all downhill. We stayed in one of the Lodge rooms and found ours to have a dominant, moldy smell. We found our bathroom to have feces on the wall of the toilet bowl, along with a dirty washcloth lying in the floor and the toilet seat to be very loose. I was able to fix the toilet seat myself. The shades and in the room were effective when they were pulled down to darken the room however we were unable to raise them more than about a foot. I was informed they don’t currently have a maintenance person.||Paper-thin walls enabled us to hear the very loud ruckus in an adjacent room for hours the night we stayed. Some critter was crawling around in the ceiling of our room, to add to the ambience. ||Upon arrival at around 3:30 we informed the receptionist we were quite hungry and were looking for a place to eat for dinner. We were informed that the only place within any reasonable distance was the “Oasis” restaurant on the grounds. We were warned that we better hurry to get to the restaurant to order some food because it closes at 4:00 and the manager of that establishment is inclined to close it earlier than 4:00 if she didn’t have enough business. We scrambled to the Oasis and I enjoyed a forgettable meal of overcooked hamburger (which was ordered medium rare). We were, however, served by a delightful, energetic waiter.||Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. We say “steer clear from the Lodge” but don’t miss the dunes!

We chose a geodome to stay in for our visit to see Great Sand Dunes National Park. The geodome did not have a private bathroom but had 3 very clean bathrooms that are shared for 7 geodome guests to share. This was fine and never a problem and a short walk from the domes. The only issue is that they really do not have hooks for clothes and towels. The bed was comfortable and the dome large enough, however no place to hang or really place travel bags. Maybe some hooks or even a luggage rack would help. ||Breakfast was fine and employees that checked us in great as well. It is grab and go and they do have chairs by the domes, however not a small table. We do carry a small table so not an issue for us.

My spouse and I stayed here in one of the geodomes for one night while visiting the national park. After reading previous reviews, our expectations were uncertain. However, the experience was great! The dome was clean, with linens provided. The shower house was much nicer than we were expecting, with 3 'units' each having standard size shower stalls, full flush toilets, and a sink. Other members of our party stayed in the lodge rooms, which also seemed to be very nice, possibly having been updated recently. Our dome porch was a perfect place to sit in the middle of the night watching the Milkyway and meteor shower, then crawl right back into bed. Communication from the staff was great leading up to and following our visit. I would definitely recommend staying at this lodge when visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park. As with everything, proper expectations make the experience better.||Two items that I would be aware of as a future guest at this lodge -|The pillows in our dome were very flat and provided little support.|The breakfast was adequate, but minimal. It began as 7:30, and it felt like everyone staying at the lodge was waiting to rush in right at that time. If you can wait until that initial rush has passed, the breakfast experience is not nearly as hectic.

Yelp
Location, location, location! GSDL is right outside Great Sand Dunes National Park. You won't get closer than this unless you're camping inside the park. Very nice views of the dunes from your patio. The rooms themselves are a bit run down, but cozy and clean. The patio BBQ and is a nice addition, and there's a microwave and mini fridge in the room too. Bring some food and grill up your dinner since food options in this area are scarce! They also have an indoor pool. No gym. Continental breakfast included in our $195/night rate. Coffee, juice, cereal, yogurt, waffles, and green and red burritos. Make sure you eat up because those dunes take a lot of energy to climb!

Yelp
Bathroom and bedroom were FULL of gnats. Asked at the front desk and was told the "bug guy sprayed but they're back already". Was given a shrug and offered a can of raid. Manager suggested we sleep with our noses plugged because "they'll land on you and go up your nose". No offer of improvement, discount, or anything. At $330 for one night, I'm beyond irritated. No point paying for the view of the dunes, because if you open the curtains MORE gnats fly out. Also no fan in the bathroom, and a/c unit is massively dusty /dirty. Regretting having booked here and paid in advance. Would much rather have stayed 40 mins down the road in Alamosa

Yelp
So good! We stayed two nights, two rooms, and it was PERFECT!! Rooms are spacious, beds cozy, nice pool, friendly staff, all for a super low price. It is 5 minutes from the dunes--the only place to stay that close. I mean, unless you're in a tent. I cannot even imagine the horrors of finishing a day at the dunes, sand in EVERY possible place on your body, and having to drive 45 minutes to a motel in Alamosa before you can take a shower. No thank you!! It's rustic and could maybe use a few updates, but who cares! It's lovely and the only place we'll ever stay if visiting the dunes

Yelp
A great location if you are looking to be very close to the Great Dunes National Park... but not fancy or especially clean (I stayed in one of the domes...). As someone who doesn't have pets I tend to notice dog hair. The dome floor had not been swept or vacuumed for sometime / lots of pet hair. The photos / reviews that show construction debris are accurate... they are definitely in the middle of several projects, but indoors are very modern and represents rehab efforts.

Yelp
We recently stayed two nights at the Great Sand Dunes Lodge, during Labor Day. Way over priced. The office personnel were helpful and courteous. Our room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The chairs in the room are actually folding chairs! Breakfast was adequate. The lodge is in much need of updating. The grounds around the building is despicable with multiple mounds of debris within in clear view.

Yelp
This place is mouse infested, in disrepair, and the owner is horrible. I spent over $300 for one night in the Avion Aspen camper. Upon arrival, a storm was moving in and rain was starting to sprinkle. The vent on the camper was stuck open, allowing rain into the camper, so I went to the front desk to ask that a maintenance person come out to look at it because we didn't want to get soaked. 30 minutes later, no one had come out and it was still sprinkling so I had to call the desk to remind them that we were getting rained on, only to have the guy working laugh and say he's been busy before finally coming out. In addition to that, the windows don't seal shut so some rain came in the windows when the wind blew and we could hear everything around us. Later in the night, just before midnight and well after we'd gone to bed, we woke up to a strange noise and found a mouse in the bed. It then ran across the kitchen area that's attached to the bed area (see photo) and kept making noises from under the stove. I called the front desk phone number and was moved to another room, but no one was on property to assist us. We had to go back & forth via phone calls and let ourselves into the room. When we went to check out, we asked for a refund because of how horrid our experience had been and the lady at the front desk called the owner, who was only going to compensate $60 for the awful stay. I let him know that is not enough for all we had been through and he then said he'd only refund $100 max and proceeded to lock the lady at the front desk out of handling our reservation in the computer system so that she didn't have the option to assist us (again, I paid over $300 for the night). I got on the phone with him and he screamed at me saying that I should be grateful that I got moved to another room in the middle of the night and proceeded to hang up on me. He also told me that the room he moved me to cost more than the room I was in, which was not true per the lady working the front desk (she checked the rate and the room I was moved to would have been over $100 less than the room I was in) and shouldn't matter because it was an empty room for the night anyway and there was a mouse in my bed. Save yourself money and a headache and don't stay here. While the drive from Great Sand Dunes to the next city is long, not dealing with this place is worth the drive.

Yelp
I wanted to watch the sunset and sunrise over the dunes and I pretty much got that. (It was snowing in the am so no good sunrise but it's colorado) Friendly people who work there and such a clean room. Very quiet- I didn't hear my neighbors at all. Dog friendly too. The breakfast is ok (I have dietary restrictions) but they have waffles.

Yelp
This is such a nice place! It's so clean. You can't beat the location and the view from the patio is amazing. I would definitely recommend.

Brandon E.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. If you do not pack food of any sort expect to have to drive atleast 30 minutes away. The establishment is very rude and they will not give any refund even if you don't stay the night, not even half a refund. I stopped and within hours we wanted to leave. They wouldn't refund nothing. Do yourself a favor and get a hotel in the town 30 minutes away then drive to see. Worst place I have ever stayed. The restaurant isn't open and the establishment has nothing to offer you as a guest. Also, they falsely advertise their lodge. Several of there pictures are not even an option to stay. I thought I got a completely different room.

Yelp
Beautiful location with cozy cabins! Slightly outdated rooms but definitely did not take away from the experience! Natalie made a phenomenal breakfast and great coffee. Everything you would want staying near great sand dunes national park!

Yelp
We got suite room, which was really nice. Because we had to leave from Denver after work, we got there later than the front desk was open (around 10:30 pm). The lady working that night called to make sure I was able to get into our room and taped the keys on the door so I didn't have to check in so late. Upon arrival, the room was clean, cozy, and a lot bigger than expected. We had a full kitchen, huge Cali king bed, and a great view on the dunes from our room. To add to that, the drive to the actual national park was maybe 5-10 minutes, so it's prime location for Dune visitors. We loved this hotel so much, we will absolutely be back. Thank you for the hospitality!

Yelp
Time travel to the past and stay in a real motel. Rooms are very large and comfortable. This is not a luxury hotel but we loved the experience and had a blast at the Great Sand Dunes Park. At night you feel you are the only people for miles. Great view and the location cannot be beat.

Yelp
Very Nice and flexible owners! We came with a pet without warning them and they found us a room anyway! We arrived at 8pm and have been told there is an indoor pool which closes at 9pm and they leave it open until 10pm for us. They asked if we needed anything to cook (plates, forks, salt...). Of course the view and location is amazing! And the price definitly worth it cause We have paid $30/pers for the night including breakfast!

Yelp
Location. Location, location! This property is 5 minutes from the National Park. We stayed two nights in a deluxe room -- a very large room with a king bed, microwave, fridge, and a large walk-in shower. Bed was very firm and provided great nights' sleep. We visited in the off-season, so rates were a bit lower; however, all their rates are reasonable for what you get here. Convenience, cleanliness, and incredible views right from your patio!

Yelp
We love this little motel! We stayed one night while visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park, it is just outside the park entrance. There is an indoor pool that is kept warm enough to jump right in and the star gazing at night from the patio of the room is perfect. Bring food and drinks as there are no restaurants or stores nearby.

Yelp
My family of three adults spent one pleasant night at the lodge. After stopping at the Oasis store where we're greeted with nothing but rudeness. We pleased to find out the lodge was not affiliated with the Oasis. The owners and employees of the lodge genuinely want to provide a special place for their guests. We were pleasantly surprised by our room. It had a refrigerator microwave, direct tv , table for four inside, table four four on the patio with a beautiful view and lots of humming birds that was shady in the morning but in full sun in the afternoon. Each room had chairs on the parking lot side for sitting in the afternoon shade. The bedding was a nice touch. Several guests had gas grills on their patios. We didn't use the indoor pool or watch tv. We did enjoy breakfast on the patio watching the humming birds. The lodge is the best and closest place to stay for visiting the sand dunes. We hiked the Dunes at night. Bring everything you need the only store worth shopping at is in Alamosa or further away. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Yelp
Really cute rooms. Loved the bed covers and pillows, nicely arranged and creating a welcoming atmosphere. It should be a gold mine, but there was a sign that it is for sale. The location is perfect. We checked in, then explored the Great Sand Dunes National Park, came back and had dinner at the Oasis down below (your only choice unless you brought your own) Sat outside and watched the sun set. Went back out again to look at the stars. Will explore some more on my way out

Yelp
A great location to see the dunes! The rooms are clean and simple with a fridge, flatscreen and a nice patio. The views of the dunes are great. The hosts are really friendly and helpful.

Yelp
This is a very basic motel but it's located right at the entrance of the Sand Dunes so if you are lucky enough to snag a room, grab it. This is booked every single day this summer so I was thrilled when a room opened up. It's no frills but it's the best way to see the park when you can go in the late afternoon and then early the next morning. Other hotels are forty minutes away which makes it inconvenient to go twice. There is a restaurant a few feet away but you must be seated before 730 pm. We picked up dinner on our way to the lodge and put it in the fridge in the room. There is also a microwave. Bring a blowdryer and lotion. The guests were very friendly. Beds were old and not comfy but location is key and we would stay there again. There is coffee and ice in the office and a soda machine

Yelp
Rooms are large and clean and include an outdoor patio area. The lodge is very convenient to Great Sand Dunes National Park. I might be wrong, but I think the next closest place is about an hour away. The complimentary breakfast was very good but did not include hot foods. They have an indoor pool and are within walking distance of a store/restaurant.
google avatar

Jeremiah Z.

Yelp
Technically, I stayed at the campground. So no further info on the lodge, although it sounds like a killer deal if you get that view from a room every day. You get a great view in the campground, which is nestled on the hillside at a somewhat steep slope. It is not much more than the state parks and will usually be open (when the state parks can fill up fast).

Osama A.

Yelp
a great place in the middle of desert and mountain, clean , fresh natural air in rooms, clean beds. it has one small window to bathrooms. great experience, I like to buy this location but too far to manage.

Ricky H.

Yelp
Clean beds, clean rooms, good coffee in the morning, amazing views, night sky incomparable and as a bonus one can watch humming birds outside on the back porch. Totally basic but quite satisfactory and only about ten minutes away from the park. If you want to go boarding on the dunes, rent boards at the "Oasis" store and restaurant nearby before going to the park. There are no signs indicating that it's the only place to rent the boards
google avatar

Ellen L.

Yelp
Stayed at the duplex and ate at the lodge. Food was very average and the place was understaffed. Quesadillas were greasy. The French dip was better but the roll was soggy. Homemade coconut pie tasted like glue. Better bring a picnic next time.

Yelp
I had wanted to stay at the Great Sand Dunes Lodge last year however, they were closed for the season so, I arrived last week to experience the lodge as well as the Dunes. For the price of over 245.00 for two nights this is my review of the lodge. The convenience of the lodge to the Dunes and the friendly over the top customer service of the front desk upon check in and through my stay are the only two assets this lodge had going for it! The room was okay, hot water slow in arriving to the shower, fridge noisy and did not have a freezer, mattress uncomfortable, sheets were pilly, the sliding glass door has the only windows and the seals were broken so a view of the dunes was hard to see. The sliding screen to the door was broken, put on upside down and backwards getting in and out was interesting. The outdoor grill was in need of cleaning and the support bracket to the lower portion was broken.Viewing of the stars from the patio was difficult as there was a large outdoor light that remained on all night as well as during the day. Of course the entree door/parking lot had lights that remand on during the night. If you want to be on the tallest dune at sunrise this is the place to stay, as the drive is short....better yet stay in the camp ground and save your 200.00. The lodge owner has a great staff and location and it appears as if there is work being done on the lodge (handicap room) however, the cost of a room is not in balance with the quality of the room.

Richard O.

Yelp
We stayed here for one night in early June to visit the Dunes. The owner was very sweet and made us feel very welcome. The room was simple but clean and comfortable. The sliding door opened to a quiet patio overlooking the Dunes. Each patio has a hummingbird feeder, and it was fun watching them all flying around! If you appreciate astronomy at all, this Lodge is an EXCELLENT place to view the heavens. This area has some of the darkest skies around. All-in-all this was a very pleasant stay.
