Tried the date nut shake and wow absolutely amazing! Creamy, perfectly sweet, and full of that nostalgic desert flavor. It really hits the spot, especially in the Palm Springs heat. The mini doughnut on top was cute, but honestly a bit overkill it didn’t add much to the experience and wasn’t really necessary with how good the shake already was. Still, overall a great stop for a fun treat!

We down for the Memorial Day holiday camping. After outdoor barbecuing, we decided to head down to downtown to enjoy a nice walk in a very brisk cool, and mildly humid night. We encountered this shake shop by chance. Walked in and immediately to a left was a chalkboard menu. The menu inclues fruit seltzers, flavored shakes, and floats for your delightful pleasure. You have a choice of 9 to 20 ounce drinks for your choosing. I ordered a the blueberry hill shake, while my daughter tried the strawberry banana shake. They were not so sweet or sugary, but just right. And for those who are lactose intolerant, they also offer lactose free shakes. I good place to go, after having dinner! Highly recommended!

This small gem in downtown Palm Springs offers an impressively wide menu of delicious milkshakes—it’s hard to choose just one! I’ve never had a shake I didn’t like, but I always find myself coming back to the French Blend. It brings back so many good memories. A visit here is always worth it—and it won’t break the bank!

Just as the name says great shakes! They have a huge variety of shakes for you to select from. This is one of my favorite shake places in Palm springs. If you've come to the star of Wesley Eure right outside, then you know you've made it to the right place.

Great Shakes is a shake shop that very clearly hearkens back to the 50's malt-shop while catering to a clientele with various dietary limitations. When you first enter Great Shakes you'll see plenty of 50's memorabilia and a huge chalkboard listing their shakes. Their menu is enormous, with 38 different shakes listed. Most or all of these shakes can be made for those who are lactose intolerant: definite win for those who can't handle milk sugar. In addition, they also offer floats with multiple sodas and some dairy-free options, including a Dole Whip. My partner ordered the chocolate fudge shake. The sides came drenched in fudge sauce which coated the chocolate ice-cream. While I only took a taste (and he devoured the rest) it was a delightful, indulgent treat. I appreciated that this sweet shop also offered a collection of retro and otherwise unusual candies, from Necco Wafers and Wax Candy Bottles to Violet flavored candy (yes, does indeed taste like perfume.) Fun for yourself or a gift. Our server very kindly answered all our questions regarding their menu. Approved!

A must try when visiting Palm Springs! I absolutely loved the date shake. The cream, thick texture, and added date and donut was the highlight of my trip. The staff was extremely helpful in helping my boyfriend and I decide what to try. Ambiance was a cool retro vibe. I've had a date shake in the past but this has been my favorite of all time.

Was in this area and I guess shakes are all the rage here, so gotta give it a try! The staff was very friendly, we had a large group and she was very patient with us. I also really appreciate them offering non-dairy option for those of us who can't have it! The store itself is small, but they do offer quite a few chairs so people can leisurely enjoy their shake without worrying about spilling it while walking around. I got the seasonal/limited edition peppermint fudge shake (non dairy), and it was very yummy! I like the flavor, you can definitely taste the peppermint in it. Some extra flakes on top adds to the textural difference and enjoyment as well. I don't really understand the donut on the straw, but I guess it's fine? Overall a nice treat, I would suggest to order the small one unless you have a serious sweet tooth. Recommend!

Exactly what you get, great shakes at great shakes. Made to order with so many options and varying size. We decided to get the smallest size, 9 oz - more like a teaser, but certainly enough for an indulgement.

I recently visited Great Shakes, and I have to say, their date shake was absolutely the best! It was creamy, perfectly sweet, and packed with flavor. I've had a lot of shakes, but this one definitely stands out. The service was quick, which made the experience even better. The staff was friendly and efficient, so I didn't have to wait long to enjoy this delicious treat. Highly recommend trying the date shake if you're in the area--you won't be disappointed!

A nice treat in the desert heat. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Very easy to find and get to, on the main road in Palm Springs. You walk in and it is sensory overload. There are neon signs, paintings, pictures, news stories, menus, and things for sale all over the place. They have plenty of options, first off for the shake flavor choices, but if shakes are not your jam, they have other dessert options as well. Something for everyone. they also sell non food items, like little toys and souvenirs. Don't forget to use your Yelp check in offer, like I did. I guess it is a reason to go back. I tried the Peanut butter shake and it was pretty good. Great taste and I see why they have such rave reviews and awards. The ice cream is delicious and high quality. The little donuts attached to the straw is a fun little gimmick. The donut is ok, but not the reason to get the shake. The shake is expensive, but it is very good.

As local institutions go, Great Shakes doesn't disappoint, its products really do live up to the hype and *probably* worth the high price ($8 for a small baby cup, c'mon!) The date shake I ordered was thick and mildly sweet, and eats like an ice cream. (I suppose it's better than a shake that's like a smoothie.)

After a disappointing dinner, we decided to grab a shake for dessert. There were a lot of flavors to choose from but we ended up choosing Oreo with caramel swirl. I was a little shocked to see the prices. We chose the 9oz which was pretty small but it was $8.75. It's pretty pricey for the amount you get. While it did taste good, they just slapped the caramel to the sides for decoration so you don't really get any caramel with each spoonful. I feel like you can get a similar Oreo shake at Micky D's for half the price so it wasn't anything mind-blowing. With that being said, they do seem to have more interesting flavors so it might be worth trying out.

"Great" shakes is understatement!!!! I had the BEST chocolate peanut butter cup shake here! If I lived in Palm Springs, I would have this shake every stinking day! I would happily accept diabetes and have no regrets on my death bed! Look at it, they swore peanut butter in the cup! And they toss in little chunks of chocolate, or something, and it gives it a little crunch and it's just the most amazing shake in the world!

Coming back to visit Great Shakes is a throwback for me. I'm glad to see they are still here and same great shakes. There is a free parking lot in the back but also some free street spots. I got the small size date shack, but the pecan one tasted better. It's definitely shareable. They have spoons and napkins in the back. There is also a water dispenser. The shakes are great during a hot afternoon.

Fun place. We get a date shake. It was good but I wouldn't get a larger one. Too many dates so I was chewing a lot. Our friends got a strawberry chocolate malt and it was amazing.

Staff were cool, cookie butter shake (can't really get this one wrong). $10 for this small size though The donut tasted like plastic bread, hard to explain. Overall great tasting ice cream, but for the price can't say it's worth it for basic options

Stopped here while walking the strip. Average place. Service was ok. Restaurant was clean. Nothing really special about the ice cream. It's regular soft serve. I think we were expecting better quality ice cream. We won't be back. Definitely over priced for what it is.

So before my excursion to Palm Springs, I was not familiar with the Southern California delicacy known as the Date Shake. Apparently, the dry and warm climate is ideal for the cultivation of date palms so alongside Highway 111, many places offer this cold, sweet, ice cream concoction. Great Shakes on Palm Canyon Drive, is a fun retro cafe, with countless gourmet shakes, and various flavors of the Date Shake. The straw is adorned with a baked mini-donut. I ordered a Peanut Butter Date Shake with whipped cream and my companion had a Chocolate Date Shake. It was cold, and creamy and I could taste the bits of blended date along with the rich ice cream. This was a fun treat, and the retro atmosphere, and the friendly staff, makes this a fun and worthwhile indulgence.

The name is true. They serve great shakes haha. The service was friendly and informative. I love how the location is right on the main street with all the local shopping and other goodies nearby. Here's what you need to know. Plenty of options, even date shakes with various sweetness levels. Free parking lot across the street behind a building of a stretch of businesses. There's a lot of cool, timeless art, and classic candy at the front counter. Don't rush. Take a look around and soak it all in. It's very nostalgic. No bathroom. Complimentary ice water toward the pick up area.

My friends and I were visiting Downtown Palm Springs for the first time and one of them recommended Great Shakes! This place was super cute & retro. I love the vibe and it's very picturesque!! The girl at the counter was nice to me but she began to grow impatient after helping some of my friends. I honestly understand having to service a big group but there was no one else there and we were being kind. Maybe just a long day? However, the guy in the back making all the shakes was super chill & he got them out fast! The shakes themselves were so good!! I didn't realize they'd all come with a little donut which was so cute. I loved it & I'd definitely come back again just for that shake.

I have gone here many times and it has been amazing every time I've gone. I love the peanut butter brownie,but everything there is the best shake's I have ever had. I have had many shake and ice cream and even compared to those great shakes is the best. The shakes all come with a small donut that are not that good but add a great look to the shakes.

Went back here two years later to try the famous date shake again. We heard you can get it with peanut butter so we thought this would spice it up a bit since it's bland. The peanut butter only surrounded the edge of the cup right in the middle, so didn't add any peanut butter flavor really. You had to scoop it with a spoon to get the taste of it. The shake is good enough but not great and not worth the cost. Just tastes like a vanilla shake. The dates aren't so prominent and get stuck in your throat and teeth. Would be a lot better w date chunks rather than it being so blended.

The shake was tasty, and the attendant was friendly. The store was clean and seems organized. It just was a little pricey for me. I get it's Palm Springs and there's probably not much they can do with the rent costs most likely...I think it could have been a buck or two cheaper. It was a good shake though.

They have so many great milkshake options here it's hard to pick just one. We went ahead with the banana fudge malt and Oreo mint fudge. The first one had fresh bananas and the perfect amount of malt. The second one cane complete with a mint Oreo. Both were topped with a delicious donut. We stop in here every time we are in town.

So YUM! On a hot day -- which frankly is every day down here :) -- these are just the thing!! I love that they do one thing, and they do it WELL!!!! My date (and strawberry) shake was out-of-this-world amazing, and I loved the fresh toppings and mini donut. Did I mention: YUM!! The service was very prompt and helpful (so many yummy choices!!) and I appreciate that they make each shake fresh and to order. We ordered our shakes to go, but chose to stay there and enjoy them. The music was fun (50's and 60's hits) and everything was very clean. There was also a little water station for customers. I will definitely be making this a "regular stop" on future trips here!

A great way to get moving and shaking... Is by treating yourself at this sweet meets savory sensation! Great Shakes of Palm Springs is located in the Downtown area of PS on Palm Canyon Drive between the lights at Arenas Rd and La Plaza. They not only make great shakes, but fruit seltzers, floats and candy! Ordering is super easy and the service breezy. Everyone was extremely helpful with any questions we had. Literally living that service with a smile life to the fullest! The inviting lighting, layout and Great Shakes crew was more than enough for me to come back... But then my shake sealed the deal... Dole Whip!! Dole Whip pineapple soft serve is completely lactose and dairy free, and honestly incredible! I do wish they had another flavor or two in this style, but grateful for what I can get and more than enjoy... Even more so when you add Chamoy (as well as tajin)... a great blend of s&s. Via my friends the Oreo Cookie Caramel Swirl and Strawberry Butterscotch are also flavors/shakes to remember (classic dairy). Like most foodie related businesses in the area you can enjoy your GS treats inside or out, though I will say that tables inside are limited and go fast. Grab straws, spoons and even a cup of water on a warm day or any time you need it toward the back half of G. Shakes where you can also grab your complete shakes. We mostly walked around the area, but like all of Palm Springs parking is free and wherever you can grab it (La Plaza plaza parking, street or structure). Get over to Great Shakes and make your day extra great!!

Found this place on yelp because of great reviews. We got Date Walnut Shake and Date Banana Shake. She adds piece of donut to the straw, nice touch. The shake was good, and you can feel the pieces of walnut and dates. It a bit too sweet, perhaps I am used to sugar free stuff too much Overall, I might try some other places before coming back

Hands down this is the BEST spot for shakes! Their shakes are literal perfection. Perfect flavors and thickness (not too thick, just right). They come with a little donut which is also yummy. I also love that they have various sizes. They have a small size that is perfect for kids, and a couple of sizes in between that and the biggest size. My favorite flavor is the birthday cake shake, there are little bits of birthday cake mixed into it - it's heavenly! It's also the cutest little spot with a retro look. Every time we go to Palm Springs we go to Great Shakes! Our trip isn't complete unless we've gone. Trust me when i say, it's a must!

A must try for any sweet tooth when in Palm Springs. Definitely a place I refuse leave Palm Springs without visiting! Tried this place for the first time a few years ago and have been in love ever since. My go to's are the Blueberry Hill and Cinnaban! Today, I tried something new which possibly will be added to my rotation-pistachio. The shakes are all great (shop name isn't lying!) and I love that they all come topped with a donut. Also, if ever able, I like to request donuts to take home. The donuts have a light glaze on them and are not too sweet with a soft texture--which I like to ruin by keeping them at the bottom of the shake. The shop is always clean, organized, and with ~ sweet ~ staff who always makes you feel like you're at home.

Am back after 10 years and Great Shakes is still here and still delicious! The girl recommended the Date with Peanut Butter Swirl and it was delicious!!

Always delicious, always courteous, they go out of your way so you can have the shake you want. If there's a line it moves quickly.

Wanted to mix up my usual salted caramel so I asked for a recommendation and was not disappointed. Banana/caramel/Graham crackers ~ really their caramel is elite and that's where you don't go wrong.

I ordered a salted caramel shake and it was wayyyy too sweet and didn't taste like anything - not vanilla, not caramel, nor salty. I had to ask for more salt on the side for me to add so that I get a better salty and sweet balance. This helped a lot but I still didn't want to finish the whole thing. My partner ordered the peanut butter brownie and that was better balanced, but it still didn't stand out. The ice cream didn't taste premium, the flavors are meh, and the donut they give you (although very cute) also doesn't add much in terms of flavor. Can't say I understand the hype.

My friend and I stopped in on Monday 4/29/24 around 2:00pm. This place has the best shakes! I definitely recommend. It has such a cute seating area as well as great service from the staff members. They also sell all sorts of candy!

We got the date shake and the banana/carmel shake. Date shake was okay. The banana/carmel is amazing will definitely go there again to buy that shake. The price is high for shakes

Delicious shakes with so many flavors to choose from. I loved the date walnut shake that I ordered. It had a nice consistency and had little bits of dates and walnuts throughout. The Oreo and caramel shake was also yummy! I really like the unique presentation as well since they include a mini donut on the side. I would love to try other flavors next time such as their peanut butter banana shake.

Lots of flavors and combinations, the line does get long, out the door but it goes fairly quickly. A few seats and stools by the window but limited seating inside and out. Wish there was a sugar free option.

I'd never tried a date shake until today, and this one was delicious! I'm sure any shake from Great Shakes would be terrific because the shake is so thick and creamy. It reminds me of frozen custard. The dates in it are chopped, not overly sweet, and very flavorful. I look forward to trying other shakes here and getting another date shake. The staff was friendly and helpful. The store is bright, kind of retro, and casual.

The shake was delicious, but unfortunately could not enjoy it fully. They gave us a paper straw only that disintegrated after the first few sips. So unfortunately, had to throw it away.

I always make a stop at Great Shakes while in Palm Springs. The interior is so fun and colorful, and all of the candy at the counter is almost impossible to resist buying. This time, we picked up some Pez dispensers along with our date shakes. I have only tried variations of the date shakes (walnut, banana) but their other shake options sound great, too (I'm looking at you, pistachio)! Banana and date is amazing and it's great you can order them lactose free. I hope this place stays around forever!

This place is a local gem !! My friend says this is the spot she takes everyone who visits her in Palm Springs. The two separate times I've been, I ordered a Peanut Butter Brownie and a Brownie Almond Crunch, and these flavors deserve all the love. Some other recommendations I got from the cashier were the Oreo creations and the Key Lime Pie. My orders were prepared quickly and I was excited to see my shakes were topped with the famous mini donut (it tasted like pancake batter with a sugar glaze -- perfect for those with a sweet tooth, although I could go without it). Since both of my shakes had brownie, they created wonderful texture with each sip. The milkshake itself was super indulgent in all the best ways! It wasn't "too" sweet compared to classic milkshakes at In-n-Out or McDonalds. It was soft enough to sip through a straw but firm enough to scoop. The 1950s decor really completed the experience and made for a wonderful photo-op. I will be back :)

This place is quirky and cute, it resembles a little old fashioned ice cream parlor. We stopped by here while browsing the downtown Palm Springs area for a date shake, as many others do. There are several spots to get a date shake on this street, but this is the most beloved according to Yelp. They have SO many options for shakes, even if you don't like dates. They also have a yelp check in offer. The line was a bit long, but it moved swiftly. I got a date shake with walnuts, 16oz and decided to share it with my husband. It comes with homemade whipped cream which I decided to not get. It was the perfect size to share. They fashioned it with a mini donut on top of the straw adding the perfect touch. Taste wise, it was wonderful. Totally recommend! Def come here if you are looking for a shake in the area!

Love this place. I've been coming here since high school! It is thee SPOT to visit when you're in PS. All the shakes are so good! If you're lactose intolerant, you can order the lactose free base. It tastes just as good. The inside gives such a 90s diner feel, with the addition of music classics! Customer service is always welcoming. 10/10 in my book. Thank you Great Shakes family!

Doesn't matter if your too full, there's always room for dessert. This is always one of those places when you visit Palm Springs that is a stop, no questions asked. There's endless flavors of shakes you can get and it just makes it better that they have lactose free as an option. It's the cutest little place on the inside, gives retro 50's/60's vibes. They typically get you in and out pretty quickly even when they get busy. I will always be a Great Shakes girly!

The greatest Shakes out there! So many different ones to choose from! Place gets really busy at times. The date shake was incredible. I didn't want it to end. Can't wait to try other shakes here.
