"Many of the Smoky Mountains’ earliest tourists came here to shop from local craftsmen, popularized by the Pi Beta Phi women’s fraternity that chose supporting these mountain folk artists as their cause. In 1912, the women established a public school for the local children, evolving into the Arrowmont School of Arts of Crafts that persists today. Centuries-old trades continue to be passed down, and visitors willfind woodworking, basket weaving, ceramics, and metalworks created in the same manner they have for generations. An organized eight-mile loop road includes stops at 120 artists' studios and workshops, many with live demonstrations. Travel it at your leisure, or break it up over several days as you discover this thriving remnant of the culture that shaped Southern Appalachia."

Been coming to the area for the past 15 years on a regular basis, passed these shops many times. We fonally stopped and absolutely loved all the unique items each place had and at affordable prices. Most of the things here are home made. Evry shop owner was very pleasant and loved to talk to us. If your looking for any type of collectibles of the Smokey's this is where you want to come!

Oh. My. Gosh. We absolutely loved our basket-weaving class. I feel horrible and can't remember our teacher, but she was so down-to-earth and kind. I made plenty of mistakes along the way and she never made me feel less than, always helping me to fix it and act like it was no big deal. We will 100% be back for another class when we go back down to the Gatlinburg area!

The Gatlinburg art district has so many wonderful artisans. You can see exactly how things are made, and some of the stores even offer hands-on classes.

We used to adore doing this loop. Apparently folks stopped creating for probably various reasons like retirement or relocation. It’s so much smaller than it used to be. We still found some treating shops and delicious fudge! Buttermilk pecan fudge is amazing! It’s such a shame that it’s not what it used to be. A lot of places were closed on Mondays.

A wonderful variety of items for sale. We just drove from place to place and were pleasantly surprised at the variety of items for sale. The people were friendly and engaged us in conversation. We were able to watch some of the artists create their magnificent crafts. I appreciated that there was ample parking at each site, as well as restrooms available for use. We came back with several items we were not aware we needed 😀. A great way to step away from the bustle of the towns and just enjoy the talented craftsmanship of the locals.

Glades soda fountain. Would definitely visit this area again. Wayne and Shelly 🇬🇧

This is actually an entire street/loop where lots of crafter and artists have their shops. You can find the map online or in most of the shops. We had a blast walking thru stores, purchasing handmade pieces, and getting to know locals. Highly recommend you find Sparky's Glass, and East Tennessee Leather Company.

Yelp
This was such a lovely time all around! I enjoyed seeing the local arts, chatting with the local crafters, and seeing the creativity out there. Everyone was friendly and passionate about their craft. This really made our Galinburg trip memorable as it showed us great insight into the local crafters and the crafts that this community does. A MUST do while here, even if you only go for a couple hours. Prices were a bit high in our opinion, but you are supporting all local businesses. Selection was good and there was such a variety of things from pottery, jewelry, leather, local baked goods, wood work, etc. If you are seeking a crafty thing, it's probably here.
