Why Cruise Lines Are Putting So Much Money Into Private Islands

"Norwegian’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, was initially bought in the 1970s and has been developed over the years to include various amenities, making it a favorite among guests."

Really beautiful island! Despite construction happening for the new pier and pool area, never really noticed it during our time at the island. Free food on the island at the buffet and a smaller kitchen further away from the main area. Until pier construction is finished, if you don't want to deal with all the tendering tickets and wait times for the tender board, I highly recommend waking up early on the day you're visiting the island. On our sailing, the boats were ready to go early at 7 am, so they let any guests who were ready board the tendering boats, regardless of their group number.

It is the private NCL island, and it is amazing ! Lots of infrastructure, the beach is really beuatiful (but the water is cold). Is possible to rent umbrellas, floating mats, snorkel, waverunner, etc. There are some shops to buy souveniers. You can also take a tour to the swimming pigs island (USD189/person). The only problem is the big lines to eat lunch and take the tender to to Back to the Ship.

The zipline was awesome! There are a few shops where you can purchase local crafts and souvenirs, and the food was good. The beach is excellent, although I did spot a large stingray. The rental cost for snorkels, goggles, and swimming gear was quite expensive. Nevertheless, the island is picture perfect.

Highly recommend a cabana. Comes with floats and a shower in the back. Fan, power, towels, chairs and water in a mini fridge. Was disappointed that the details when we purchased the cabana said that there would be service, but there wasn’t. Iguanas everywhere! Very cool! Great views. Nice way to relax. Excellent snorkeling and the lifeguard on the kayak made it feel extra safe.

No actual port, limited options other than swimming and zip lining. There is a tiny straw market of 8-10 souvenir huts. Clear cool water with beautiful snorkeling.

Good click, here you've found a full video tour of the island, from start to finish... and some of my best photos ever published... Who knew NCL owned an island? They do! Welcome to "Great Stirrup Cay" It used to be referred to as "Paradise Island," but a property in the Bahamas, with the extravagant Atlantis Hotel, has since taken claim to that moniker... NCL has spared no expense; over a million dollars, to turn this rock into quite an exclusive hot spot for its tendered cruise passengers. ONLY NCL can port here, so if you're looking to duplicate the experience here on this review, you'll have to book through one of their fleet...

Beautiful beach! Great for snorkeling! Better to buy a snorkeling mask in advance because to rent on the beach is 37 dollars.

What an amazing place! I was there with my husband as a part of our cruise (NCL) and we spanned the day there. It is beautiful. White sandy beach, amazing blue waters and Plenty of places to take waderful pictures at. We did a kayak tour around the island and it was great. I will truly remember this experience for ever.
