25 Coffee Shops to Visit Before You Die

"Warning to those with vertigo: This may not be the cafe for you. That’s not because it’s located on a cliff. Instead, Seoul’s Cafe Yeonnam-Dong 223-14, named after its street number and affectionately known as the “Drawing Cafe,” may dizzy you with the uncanny feeling that you just entered a cartoon. Done up in white, with pencil-like black pigment outlining everything from the chairs and tables to the flattened “shirts” on the laundry line outside, the small cafe gives visitors the distinct impression of being pressed into a comic strip. The pastel pastries and frothed milk topping the “flat” cups add a pop of color to this stark, pencil-and-paper landscape. The cafe’s owner and sole proprietor, J.S. Lee, was inspired by pop culture—specifically, a Korean cartoon and Instagram. The show in question is W, a web cartoon fantasy about a man caught between real life and, you guessed it, a web cartoon. While that show lasted only 16 episodes, Lee’s cafe, though still young, seems to have staying power. That’s partly due to his other online muse: The cafe was designed to be as Instagrammable as possible.  Locals and travelers alike line up to visit the small space, located in Seoul’s Yeonnam-dong neighborhood, to snap a pic or 10 and to dine on deceptively 2-D coffees, pastries, and rich smoothies adorned in chocolate coins. Visitors are warned to take care, however, lest they walk through the cartoon door and find themselves stuck starring in their own multidimensional web series." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Interesting design, it was fun to see how real the 3d effect was. The side door is actually real! Cafe policy is one drink person. The mirror corner provides free mobile charging, and comes with various cable types.

Unique cafe making you feel that you are in a comic book. Orange latte was the best. I donno the dessert name but it was yum. The service was not that friendly, but they didn’t mind us when we clicked lot of pictures. We arrived one hour before the closing time , so there were less people . Things also had got sold out. It’s a unique experience. You can give a try when in Seoul

The environment is cool with it looking like a 2D space. I had the black sesame latte and it was very grainy which made me not enjoy it. My sister had more of a regular latte which she very much enjoyed but the graininess of the seasame latte made me very much not like drinking it.

Probably one of my favorite concept coffee shops in Seoul. The design and creativity is on point and very Instagramable. I got the black sesame coffee and the cookie with ice cream inside and it was amazing . Can’t wait to go back.

I love this cafe indeed. Nothing to say on negative side. Staff was very helpful and good service mind even there’s a lot of customers on that raining day. I did ask staff to help take photo but she firstly refused to do for me due to the very busy business. Later on she came back to me and ask if i still need her assistance. Such a nice person.

Incredible cafe! Quite unique experience. Little gimmicky but still, it will bring you a smile and make you feel like a comicbook character!!! Cappuccino was excellent, roo. Highly recommended 👌

Such an aesthetic looking cafe. Every table and chair, door, lights, cups and plates etc are all outlined like in a picture. The coffee and cakes and croissants were delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. A bit of a distance from Hongdae from shopping street, though a leisurely walk along the Gyeongui line forest from hongdae train station to the Cafe adds to the experience.

My experience at this place was rather disappointing. It was notably expensive, and aside from the black and white theme, there wasn't anything particularly unique or exceptional about it. Overall, it left me wanting more for the price.
