We loved everything about this hotel. Quiet, modern yet warm, best bed we had in Germany, helpful staff, and most reasonable price we paid on our trip. It’s a 10 minute tram ride to downtown and maybe 15 to the train station but the trams run every three to ten minutes and stop literally in front of the hotel. We enjoyed being a quieter part of town and in a model green district. They gift you with free tram rides in the city during your stay. The breakfast buffet is lovely. The staff, which includes people with disabilities, is friendly and helpful. It’s truly green—not just PR. You can even walk into the Black Forest—or take trains to more spectacular parts of the Black Forest. Only one good restaurant within walking distance but so easy to hop on the tram. We were there four nights and can’t recommend it enough.

I stayed for four nights here at the beginning of August. The rooms were really bright, airy and clean. Even in the unbearable 31+ degrees outside, the room remained comfortably cool. The staff at reception were always friendly and greeted me each time I arrived and left the hotel. I only had the breakfast buffet here once as it was so expensive. At 18 Euros per person per day, the breakfast had to be exceptional, which it was not. It was very good, but the lack of a fruit salad and only one vegan yogurt to choose from, meant that I ate breakfast elsewhere. The location is very convenient. There is a tram stop located directly outside of the hotel entrance, with the tram 3 taking you directly into the city centre.

Beautiful location. Really nice neighborhood, great transit, very chill and comfortable. Good room in general with one large issue: The hotel is passive house, and air is circulated every 2 hours, but the rooms were still very stuffy, so I had to open the window to get fresh air, which fixed it immediately. I suspect there was too high of CO2. So there may have not been enough air circulation.

I had a super stay here. The rooms were very clean and it is such a bright building. The staff were so helpful. The tram stop to get into the city centre is right at the front door, so although out of the city centre it is easily reached. There are shops, cafes and restaurants nearby too.

Very helpful staff. Hotel was very clean and well kept. Location is OK, requires transit on Tram service to get to most locations, but tram service picks up right outside of hotel.

We stayed at the Green City Hotel Vauban while visiting the area. The hotel itself is very clean and modern. The rooms are a bit small by American standards. However, the beds were very comfortable and the closet was a decent size. The bathroom was nice and the shower had great water pressure. However, the glass doors were a bit awkward and it was hard to shower without getting the bathroom floor all wet. The hotel provided liquid hand soap that doubled as body gel and shampoo. The hair dryer in the room was excellent. Very powerful. While the instructions for the room stated that the room is climate controlled, we did not get the temperature to change either hotter or colder. We did not find any way to change the temperature and we never asked as it was about 60 degrees outside and we did not really need heat or air conditioning. I am not sure if there truly was air conditioning. That would be a concern in the summer.||We did not have breakfast at the hotel as it was 12 euros a person and if you wanted hot eggs prepared it was additional money. We ate breakfast elsewhere as there are plenty of bakeries and cafes to go to. There was one bakery and a grocery store right across the street from the hotel. Also, the hotel is across the street from the tram and bus stop, If the windows are open in the room, it can be noisy.||The hotel staff was very friendly and spoke English fairly well. When I asked about how to get to certain places, other than in town, they needed to look things up on the computer, but they willingly did so. The wifi did not work great i n our room. It worked well in the lobby.||The area of Vauban is very nice, but about a 5-10 minute tram ride from town. The hotel gives each guest a complimentary tram/bus pass for the duration of the stay. This was a great help as the rides can get very expensive. We were happy to be away from the noise and traffic of Freiburg city center and taking the tram back and forth was very easy and enjoyable. ||This hotel was very good value for the price and I would definitely recommend it.

Comfortable, quiet and green, what's not to like? The rooms are not big but enough, and the materials used are high quality. Great to see commitment to save energy and use local materials where possible. Tram in front, every 7 minutes and stay included free use of regional public transport!

We had an absolutely wonderful time in Freiburg, and Green City Hotel Vauban was a big part of why it was such a great visit. The hotel is super clean, modern, and perfectly appointed. The bed and sheets were very comfortable, the bathroom spotless, and loved the natural wood throughout. What was especially nice was the soundproofing. The windows are triple insulated and wow, the doors throughout the hotel are heavy! And despite the heat outside, the climate control kept us comfortable throughout the night. Perhaps best of all, the hotel puts a premium on being environmentally friendly and inclusive to all, which I really wish many more hotels would do. A good reminder for us all. Lastly, the location was perfect. We were visiting primarily to explore Freiburg, and this was the perfect launching point. The tram picks up direct from the hotel’s front door, and it’s less than 15 minutes to downtown. And, great hiking spots from the hotel (Jesuit Schloss with great views of the city), wine tasting close by, and exploring the Vauban district — a must. Our thanks to the exceptional staff of the hotel, from the front desk to the team at breakfast. All made us feel very welcome and we were certainly exceptionally well taken care of. Oh, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention breakfast. Fantastic, fresh, healthy options, and can’t miss the classic brötchen. Thank you to the Green City Hotel Vauban team. We can’t wait to visit you again!!
