Green Elephant Backpackers

I had the pleasure of staying here for 2 months while I was on a work trip in Cape Town. I have only praise for the establishment and staff. The location is also prime in Observatory, ideal for visiting students, hospital staff or general tourists. The outer courtyard area is an excellent place to unwind with a drink and food while watching a sporting event. Inside and outside the wireless signal is strong so you can work outside in the sun or inside in the communal office. My preference was out in the sun by the pool. The staff involved are excellent and inviting. I was given tips for travelling, places to see and restaurant recommendations. The daily cleaning staff are always friendly and take excellent care of my belongings. The owners are very inviting often organising trips for the guests and I found I was invited for braai several times. I used the private apartments for my stay and would recommend on long stays. Comfortable beds, a perfect space for work or relaxation with cooking for myself. Parking cars around there is street and lot parking behind a fence with plenty of space to park my car. I greatly enjoyed my time here, the staff and owners. If you are coming to Cape Town this should be the place to stay. I know I will come back again.

Fantastic little backpackers hostel in a fantastic location. I visited over Christmas, and the hostel was quiet, clean and very well managed. Most noticeably, there's a 24 hour reception, fully decked out kitchen (the only thing you need to buy is your food), and a bar and pool to relax by. The hostel is situated right in Observatory, allowing access especially to students looking for a cheap drink or some top tier thrift stores, and there are two gas stations and a Spar and Clicks within 2 minutes walking distance, making it a very convenient location whatever you need. Another mention is deserved for the diligent staff who take care of the place to a T and who made my trip as memorable as it was. Overall, I felt incredibly safe at this hostel, made some amazing friends and only appreciated my stay in Cape Town even more!

Green Elephant is home from home. Warm welcome which put me at ease immediately. The guests were just as friendly ( Must have rubbed off from host and hostess and workers who are available to help all the time.) I noticed the rooms on the ground floor were spacious and very clean. The toilets need hand rails for mobility challenged guest The grounds are arranged with thought and more potted plants would add to the atmosphere. I enjoyed the outdoor seated areas a-plenty. The bar area was my best place as I enjoyed the deep seats , limited drinks menu available. While enjoying the deep-seat with drink in hand the only item I felt was amiss was some good jazz music( my preference) I enjoyed my visit and would surely return as it is very central for transport and as for safety they provide security assistance which I think very thoughtful, they value guest safety. I also noticed motion cameras which added to a feeling of safety. I would volunteer if I was a younger adult because I can just imagine the fun experience it can be.

Nice hostel. I was there for a few weeks and the beds were really comfortable, everything was very clean and the stuff was very friendly. Everyday rooms and facilities are cleaned and beds made and towels are facilitated if you don’t have one. The kitchen has many tools to cook, and there are a few resting places around the place like a study room, exterior areas with couches, and on the inside of the house too. It is also well located as there is a spar, clicks and pick and pay nearby.. also Chinese market and other local shops and it is an area where one can walk around(being careful like always) but without a problem. And it seems there are university students in the area

Great hospitality from the moment I got here. Also, the rooms are cleaned daily and thoroughly, making me feel very comfortable. The outdoor bar has a great hang out area with great service. I would highly recommend the Green Elephant!

I had a really good experience staying at Green Elephant Backpackers Hostel! The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, making it easy to meet other travelers. The staff were helpful and made sure everything ran smoothly. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the common areas had a fun, social vibe. The location was great, with easy access to public transport and nearby attractions. They also organized fun activities, which made my stay even more enjoyable. Stayed for 2 months and had a great time! The staff is amazing and are very willing to help with any issues that may come up. Good connections for travel excursions too! 100% recommend staying here!

Lihle is just simply the best host every, all the staff is friendly & accommodating. Very clean, safe, reliable, peaceful. Absolutely the best in Cape Town.
