Green Gables Inn, A Four Sisters Inn (Pacific Grove, California) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Though it’s a long way from Prince Edward Island, Pacific Grove, on Monterey Bay, is the sort of 19th-century Californian town Lucy Maud Montgomery would have loved. Green Gables Inn is the flagship location of Four Sisters Inns, a collection of sophisticated boutique hotels. It’s long been an incredibly quaint place to stay, but recent renovations have made it more inviting than ever. Common spaces and guest rooms have been brightened and refreshed, the interiors modern but cozy with rustic wood flooring, linen sofas, earth tones, and dreamy watercolor paintings capturing scenes of the sky and the sea." - Tablet Hotels

The Green Gables Inn is an incredible experience. I encourage anyone looking to stay in the Monterey/ Pacific Grove area to stay here. I stayed in the balcony room which overlooked the ocean. During the day we would open the windows and listen to the waves and read on the day bed. The service and food was absolutely incredible. Everything was clean, well maintained, and somehow better than the photos I saw online. The wine hour and being able to rent bicycles made the experience extra special. Everything was perfect, and this is somewhere that will always be special in my heart. I plan to come back again & stay in the future.

Loved the location, the service, and the ambience. Just delightful. We enjoyed our beautiful room overlooking the ocean! It was clean, recently updated, very relaxing and had stunning views. Our bathroom was across the hall, it was private, adorable, and very easy and comfortable to use. The new designer renovations throughout the hotel were fantastic and made it lovely to spend time in the common rooms. |The breakfast and Happy hour were yummy with lots of choices ( Gluten Free options included). Watching the adorable seal pups out front this time of year was a surprise bonus! So fun to see! Parking was easy - on a quiet, not busy street. Many thanks for a lovely stay!

Green Gables is our favorite place to stay in Pacific Grove. Right on the ocean, great views, great 'feel', and great service. We love the patio room upstairs with a fantastic view and comfortable space. We enjoy the full breakfast and wine-and-appetizers in the evening. It is walking distance from nice restaurants and hangout spots, and right near the coastal bike/walking path.

Lovely inn right on the ocean. You can hear the waves (can’t see them) while in your room. Staff was amazing and very helpful with any question and/or request I had. Loved the freshly prepared breakfast and wine/cheese happy hour. I can highly recommend The Green Gables Inn.

This was our second stay at the Green Gables and it was wonderful. We stayed in the Carriage House and our room was large and comfortable. The view across Monterey Bay during breakfast or the wine & cheese hour is hard to beat. This is a great place.

From the minute we walked in the door until our keys were turned in, it was fabulous. Carmen, their chef, cooked up a wonderful breakfast, from scratch! Lia and Ivy were also lovely taking care of our every whim. Room was perfect! I’m coming back!

My husband and I stayed two nights here, and we enjoyed everything about our stay. The room was clean, cozy, and very comfortable. The bed and linens were excellent, the decor and amenities classic but fresh, and we could hear the waves breaking.||The main building is lovely; and the breakfasts, wine and cheese hours, and the baked goods were welcoming and enjoyable. We had marvelous views of the surf along with otters and shorebirds.||The staff was wonderful, and the location was central to everything in Monterey and Pacific Grove. It was a lovely stay.

A visit to a Four Sisters Inn is always, a treat! We arrived at Green Gables, and were taken immediately up to our beautiful “Chapel Room.” The room was a nice combination of historic and modern comfort. There was a bathroom across the hall, dedicated to this room, and our entire stay we did not encounter another guest when in the hallway. |The view from the window is spectacular, and the two small windows when open allow you to hear the waves from your room. We enjoyed time in the common areas of the house when having wine and appetizers in the afternoon, fresh cookies, and tea in the evening or the nicely prepared breakfast each morning. Directly across the street are stairs that lead to the shoreline trail making for good ways to start or end each day. Staff is wonderful and they make sure you have a good stay.

Yelp
Check in was very smooth. I received a text asking to finish my check in information which helped made the transaction easy when we arrived. The clerk was very welcoming and warm. We were shown to our room, which was surprisingly large. It was very nicely decorated and had cottage like touch with a fireplace. We enjoyed the access to dining area for a bfast and happy hour in the afternoon. Loved that the inn was close walking proximity to the aquarium, bluffs/beach, Main Street Monterey and restaurants. The only downside was, on the website, parking was listed as available. When we arrived we were told it was off street parking. That was a disappointment. We were lucky we had found a spot next to the inn, on the least busy side street to park our car and we then just walked everywhere. If I could I'd give this place a 41/2 star instead of 4. It was very quaint, tranquil, and had everything we needed minus parking.

Yelp
Inn is beautifully kept and very clean. Stayed in Carriage 7 to bring pup. Views are breathtaking and ocean sound soothing. Staff is wonderful and considerate. Loved location and walking along water. Great breakfast and wine/cheese time. Fireplace was broken but fixed next day. Lots of noise from people above us. Overall amazing place with perfect location. Paid 465 and 480 per night off season (midweek beginning of May)

Yelp
New owners COMPLETELY RUINED the exquisite interior with horrible "design" and white paint. I'm so depressed.

Yelp
A great place to stay. Location is fantastic and rooms are very modern and comfortable. Breakfast had many choices. Wine and cheese is a nice touch as well. Staff were very friendly. We will be back.

Yelp
Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Pacific Grove, the Green Gables Inn is a charming escape that captures the essence of coastal living. During my recent stay, I had the pleasure of experiencing the epitome of relaxation in The Balcony Room. From the moment I stepped into the inn, I was greeted by the warmth of the staff and the timeless charm of the Victorian-era architecture. The Green Gables Inn exudes a sense of tranquility, making it a perfect retreat for those seeking a peaceful getaway. The Balcony Room, in particular, surpassed all expectations. Opening the door to this well-appointed haven, I was immediately drawn to the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean from the private balcony. The room had more than enough space for 2 with a comfortable king-sized bed and a twin bed near the windows. (the bed was raised so not sure if it would be suitable for young children. The bathroom was across the hall but private for our use only. The water took a little time to warm up but that was expected due to the age of the house. One of the highlights of my stay was waking up to the sound of crashing waves with panoramic views of the ocean. The Green Gables Inn offers afternoon wine, cheese & snacks as well as a well rounded breakfast in the morning. The inn's common areas, including the beautiful garden and inviting sitting rooms, provide additional spaces for relaxation and socializing. The Balcony Room had the best view. There were other rooms but with partial views and some rooms with no views so select carefully. They also also dog-friendly rooms too. The room was a bit on the expensive side but considering your across the street from the ocean it was worth the cost. We stayed at the end of October and the room was a bit cold so we used the heater and it worked well. In conclusion, the Green Gables Inn, and specifically The Balcony Room, met our expectations. Whether you are seeking a romantic getaway or a peaceful retreat by the ocean, this charming inn is a gem on the Pacific Grove coastline.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about our stay. It was wonderful. And the Breakfast by chef Carmen every morning was so wonderful. The front desk staff was also terrific. It exceeded our expectations. We wound up arriving late and they were texting us the whole time to keep in touch. They even put breakfast aside for us on the morning we arrived because of issues getting there the day we were supposed to. The location is terrific the views wonderful right down to the classical music you hear in the main room. A terrific experience and we will be back again as soon as we can.

Yelp
We used to live in Pacific Grove and for our anniversary I decided to plan us a socially distance approved anniversary getaway in our old hometown. I found the Green gables because it was on the water and literally standing on the sidewalk in front of it, I could see my old house which was a selling point. I had learned my lesson about booking with a third party after multiple times getting a great deal on a website and then having to change my reservation and the actual business balks about the reservation not having gone through them directly. Multiple places told me " if you just asked for that rate to us we would have honored it." So I found a rate online through a third party and then called the Green gables directly. A woman answered the phone and I told her about the rate I found online which was significantly cheaper than the rate they were publishing on their own website. I told her that I wanted to book this reservation but the price difference was significant. She said she would need to talk to somebody and would call me back. Eventually the lady did call me back and was unhappy about the situation but she did grant us the advertised price through the third party. She said " I'm going to have to talk to our people" about the costs that they're willing to advertise since this apparently was not something that she wanted to do. They did however do it anyway. I told her that it was our anniversary and that I was going to be surprising my husband with a small cake from the patisserie that made our wedding cakes and she said that she would note that would be a surprise and they would have somewhere to store the cake for me. When we arrived, the location was gorgeous and we were impressed with the ambiance from the outside. Due to covid there were limitations on how many people could be checking in at once so we waited outside for some time before we could check in. At check-in however, the lady behind the counter who was not new, said out loud in front of my husband that there was going to be a surprise cake and did I have it with me? This was very frustrating because the surprise cake was for my husband and totally ruined the surprise. Once to our room, The less than optimal experience continued. Our room had no towels and so we called down for some and they were delivered. When we opened the bag of towels, they were ready, and poor condition, and coming unstrung from their weave. The bathroom was a series of less than desirable situations including a shower with quite a bit of black mold, soap dispensers that were falling apart, and just a lot of things that really could have been dealt with easily but showed a real lack of attention to detail in terms of guest experience. The package of our room included a "wine package" every afternoon and a "breakfast picnic basket" every morning. I told the team when we made the reservation that I don't eat meat and she said no problem and they wouldn't send me any. First breakfast served to us and sure enough, bacon in the entree. Wine package included a small plate of soggy cheeses and some very unimpressive canned wines, which I gave the ol college try but they were terrible. They told me I could pay to upgrade to a better wine, but even those were terrible. The room itself was average, with a super uncomfortable bed that was like sleeping on a rock, and the tv didn't work half our stay, and the windows kept swinging open randomly. This made it have poor temperature controll including being super hot and randomly really cold. The sound too was pretty distracting due to probably the age of the house, and when they were cooking downstairs, the whole place smelled like bacon which would probably be great for meat eaters, but made my hair smell like bacon all day. Also at one point while I was getting changed in our room, someone from the front desk unlocked our door and walked in. I looked at them incredulously and they apologized and closed the door and walked out. Later they said they intended to go into a different room and went into ours accidentally. I know it wasn't due to housekeeping because they didn't do housekeeping during covid and I thought that was just something weird and could have been easily avoided. Overall I felt like this was a very negative experience from check-in. With price drama, to a moldy bathroom with ratty towels, to terrible quality and selection of meals/accoutrement, to a bed that was uncomfortable and left us sore, and intrusive staff. The negatives vastly outweigh the positives on this stay. Other than this, our trip was very good but this definitely was the most acute in terms of the worst part of our trip. The good things were limited to the location and accessibility to the beach but you can get that at other places for a better price and for better quality. When I come back to this area I will definitely not be staying here, and wish I had stayed elsewhere for this otherwise very positive trip.

Yelp
Second time staying at Green Gables. Perfect location and walking distance to many restaurants and Cannery Row. There's a beautiful biking/walking trail called the coastal trail right across the street. We stayed in the chapel room this time around which is a charming room in the main house with lots of character and a beautiful ocean view. The one minus was the bathroom is not attached to the room. While it is still your own private bathroom you have to walk across the hallway which can be inconvenient at 2:00 in the morning. While we eventually adapted to this we would have preferred an attached bathroom. Outside of this, it is a beautiful B & B with friendly staff located right across the street from the coastline. We actually spotted sea otters playing in the water from our bedroom window!

Yelp
I love this place. Please don't change it. I wrote this letter to the Four Sisters Inns (does anyone else here agree?): "My wife and I have made the Green Gables Inn our special place for the past ten years. We have made many friends during our stays here. Some have been coming for 25 years, others upwards of 40 years. You are in the process of removing the very thing that gives the Green Gables its unique charm. Please stop and rethink your interior design and furnishings. Many of your long-time patrons are talking about going elsewhere as they look at what you're doing to our beloved getaway. Please keep the antique decor and dark, rich Victorian feel. We just thought you would like to know what so many of your long-time patrons are talking about. If anything, make it more 19th century Victorian, not less. Matt and Bonnie Thompson"

Beautiful place and an excellent stay right by the ocean. Staff is very friendly. Offers happy hour wine and delicious homemade baked cookies, cheese and fruit. Breakfast served in the morning overlooking the beautiful ocean

Yelp
I wish i had done some more review reading before booking Green Gable Inn as our anniversary destination. The place was beautiful, location was great, and room service breakfast in a picnic basket was fabulous, but was it worth $400 a night- absolutely not. Cons 1. The place advertised free parking but it was simply as long as you find a spot to park on the street you are good. 2. Complimentary wine was delicious but for $400 a night it would be nice to get the entire bottle not a half bottle. Also every time we needed water we had to go downstairs to the main lobby to fill up our water bottles. 3. Noisy upstairs neighbors are a thing. Walls are thin so it gets loud. 4. Overall room outline wasn't very comfy. Pros 1. Delicious breakfast- can't state that enough. 2. Beautiful balcony area, we even saw a deer during our outside balcony dinner. (this is only if you are staying at the adjacent building). 3. Room was very clean and the jetted tub was amazing . In sum, I'd recommend this Inn but don't pay more than $250 for a night here

Yelp
This place was super beautiful. Location along the ocean couldn't be beat. Carla our host took care of us. My girlfriend was super excited to take a hot bath after a long day of travel. Unfortunately the water was not hot. We advised Carla who immediately moved us to balcony room in the main building overlooking the ocean. It was so nice we opted for a 2nd night. Breakfast was great and cheese and wine service was first rate. I read somewhere here that someone gave them 2 stars for being haunted. lol. I know people who would give 5 stars for such an experience. All in all would come back again.

Yelp
What a lovely charming Inn! Right on the water with views to beg for. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. They even called the day before to let me know a room I had wanted had come available! Extremely attentive and thoughtful on arrival too. Had a goodie bag waiting for me and special items for my breakfast the next day. Was so grateful for the special treatment. Carmen was a delight! A true treasure in a lovely area.

Yelp
A very nice and scenic place to stay while in the Monterey area, and they're pet friendly. They have a wonderful hot breakfast, and evening wine or soft drinks, cheese, crackers, cake and cookies. The lobby has a beautiful view of the ocean, coffee, tea, and snacks seem to be available there throughout the day, although this isn't advertised. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and well appointed. Overall, very nice.

Yelp
My bride Valerie and I have been coming to this Bed and Breakfast for well over 25 years. We come here every year on our anniversary. It is a remarkable place and the staff here are amazing and they work very hard to create an atmosphere which is filled with hospitality. The food is always excellent and you are across the street from one of the most incredible places on earth where land and sea meet. I highly recommend this place and just by using the restrooms I swear you can hear "Unchained Melody" in the background. You will want to come to the Green Gables Inn it is a place where memories are made!

Deb D.

Yelp
I love coming to the Green Gables Inn. We have been coming off and on for the last 15 years. We love the quirkiness of the house and it's character. Imagine my shock as I open the door and see the totally, redone interior. Gone is the cozy Victorian feel. Everything is now painted white and gray. The beautiful colored decoration around the ceiling of the living room is gone. Moving to the breakfast room is now a sterilized vision of white and marble. There is no real color in the room at all. Our hostess, Carla, is delightful and the really only welcoming light in the house. Happy hour is your basic cheese choices, blah crackers and wine. So, if you want to stay in a Victorian house that looks like any other characterless trendy hotel now the Green Gables Inn is for you.

Charlotte G.

Yelp
My husband and I just left here, we were on our honeymoon. This is the most magical comfy neat place. We stayed in the Gable room and loved it. The breakfast is awesome and it's location is within walking distance for cannery row and the aquarium .

Cindy L.

Yelp
Last minute booking but I think we got the best room. Room had the full view of the ocean. You can hear the waves all night long. There was not bathroom in this room, you have to go out crops the hall way for it. Though it is yours, no share with anyone. Room and bathroom are very clean. Breakfast time: they start at 8, every thing in the dining areas was perfect. So clean . Love that they keep yogurt, fruit and granola in the glass containers. They serve different hot breakfast each day. If you come down early, you get best choice of tables, sitting enjoying the beach since you are up high. Definitely going back there.

Yelp
I don't even have words to describe how amazing our stay at the historic Green Gables Inn in Pacfic Grove (right next to Monterey Bay) was! It was the perfect place to call home during our relaxing getaway to Northern CA. We were greeted by Honey and her lovely team who made sure that we were right at home from the moment that we walked in the door. I must also mention the smell of homemade cookies that permeated the house upon arrival. After checking us in, they personally walked us to our room, told us about the history of this gorgeous historic home, and pointed out the amazing views from our balcony. You can tell that they are truly passionate about what they do, and most importantly, have a crazy love for Green Gables. Our room was adorable. It had a victorian feel (slightly modernized) with antique furniture, a fireplace, jacuzzi tub (with bath salts...does it get more relaxing!?), comfortable robes, a Keurig coffee maker, flat screen TV, a balcony with a table for two, and a king size bed that was beyond comfortable. We had a gorgeous view of the ocean from our windows and balcony. They also have 4 complimentary bikes that guests can use (which I highly encourage!). We even saw deer taking a leisurely stroll through the property! ...SO COOL! Lastly, the best part was their hospitality and the FOOD during our stay! In the mornings from 8-10 AM, they have homemade breakfast (changes regularly) but while we were there, we had items like a delicious egg bake, French toast, bagels and breads with homemade jam, fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, juices, coffee, tea, etc. In the afternoons, they have 'tea time' consisting of cheese, crackers, veggies, dips, nuts, wine, tea, cookies, and more! And last but certainly not least, they put out more fresh cookies, sherry and/or port in the evenings around 7 PM for a perfect night cap. And yes guys, this is ALL included in your room price! We will absolutely be back again, in fact, we've even talked about making it a yearly tradition during our hot AZ summers! The weather was between 50s-70s the entire time that we were there (June 2nd-4th). We were in heaven and came home feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Thank you to Honey and her fabulous team for making our trip unforgettable!

Yelp
Simply a wonderful, wonderful inn! For a family group, I booked two rooms: the Gable Room and the Sandpiper Room. Both rooms were charmingly appointed. Falling asleep and awakening to cool breezes and the sound of ocean waves was pure bliss. The extensive and fresh breakfast and happy hour offerings really put me in a relaxed, vacation state of mind.

Yelp
My wife and I just returned from a two day visit to what once was our most beloved Victorian bed and breakfast on the Monterey Bay. We were shocked to find the entire place is now in colors of white and gray, just like all the modern, boring new hotels. The decision of the management team to upgrade this beautiful old Victorian house has destroyed the charm that it once had. We loved staying here for many years but will no longer. We grieve the loss of our wonderful Monterey heritage. I am disappointed the four sisters allowed this to happen. So sad.

Yelp
My love and I had the loveliest time. We had to push our reservations at least three times due to covid and work commitments. They are so accommodating and their happy hour and breakfast was really substantial. Wonderful stay.

Yelp
What a wonderful getaway spot. My party had both the Lacy and Jennifer suites. The hospitality was great and it just seemed like the perfect meld between quaint and hotel professionalism. The breakfast is quite substantial compared to what you might get elsewhere. The amenities are great and even though we had a slight water heater issue, GGs has all the convenience of a hotel you'd like but with the cozy atmosphere of a genuine B&B. Parking is never difficult and it's a short walk to the Row. You could definitely stay at a different, cheaper place, but you won't have an experience like this. They even have some great connections to get you tickets to wherever you want or reservations wherever you want.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. Tasty breakfasts, wonderful coffee, recently remodeled room with new bed. We stayed for 80th birthday and family reunion in Pacific Grove and enjoyed the 5 days of celebration and joy. We stayed in the ADA room and it was great with parking on site for our (DAV) vehicle. Thoroughly enjoyable, and an excellent location.

Yelp
This review is based on my phone call with the Inn only as they were fully booked, and not surprisingly. The person I spoke to couldn't have been friendlier. I wish we could have stayed. Definitely will call here first the next time I'm visiting the area.

Yelp
We reserved king bed with a sofa bed. The room very spacious. It had a mini library, separate closets, Jacuzzi tub, separate shower and fireplace. Breakfast was included and it was quite generous fresh, and flavorful. Happy hour consisted of wine and cheese. All food was of high quality. Staff amiable, professional, and attentive. You have to park on the street but never had an issue finding a spot. Shopping and restaurants were within walking distance. The beach and walking path right across the street. The only thing I would recommend is getting a room on the top floor. Unfortunately, there was a small dog above us who walked all night long.

Grace F.

Yelp
I love this place. The women who work here were phenomenal. The wine and cheese and breakfast were amazing. The entire property is unbelievably charming. My mom, niece and I stayed in the Carriage House Room. I was informed the sleeper sofa was comfortable after asking because I know they can be hit or miss. Turned out it was ancient, almost entirely springs and very dangerous for children (think old, folding, moving pieces of metal). We all three ended up sleeping in the bed, which had the exact opposite problem, there was no support at all and my mom and I both woke up very sore. I also saw 2 fleas jump off of the shower mat when I unfolded it. This was not the end of the world to me but was a bit disappointing. At this price point they should definitely make some much needed investments.

Yelp
Stayed two nights in a "Carriage House" room. The inn's location is perfect: You can walk or bike into Monterey or out to Asilomar, as well as to several excellent restaurants. The main house is charming, in a slightly lopsided way, but we did not get to enjoy the public rooms because of Covid restrictions (no breakfast buffet or wine and cheese spread...food was delivered or packed up for pick-up), so that aspect was lost on us. We did, however, greatly enjoy our large room, with an "almost" view of the ocean through a dense tree canopy. The weather in PG was cool enough to make the fireplace and jetted tub inviting, so we made use of those features. The bed was very comfortable, linens were good quality. We slept well. The carriage house is behind the main building, so you get less noise from traffic on Ocean View, which is why we chose it. It was not always quiet, though. We got some odd, loud noises coming from below our room (possibly from the laundry) and could hear every footfall of the guest in the room above us. Fortunately, the heavy-footed guest went to bed early. Overall, we were happy with our stay at Green Gables. However, there were a few negatives worth mentioning. Breakfast was disappointing, I'm sorry to say. It was nicely presented, but the hot dishes (eggs in various forms, and a bakery item) were not very good, and I did not eat much of them on either day. I was happy the breakfast "picnic" included yogurt, granola and fruit, so I did have something to eat. The coffee, to be frank, was downright terrible. If I were running an inn that included breakfast, I would base my breakfast menu around really great coffee. The other issue was the plumbing. One sink drain was partially clogged (very slow draining) and the other sink made disgusting, loud bubbling noises when the upstairs guest ran the water. That is grossly unsanitary. (One sink also had a huge crack right across the bowl -- not a good look.) The water pressure in the shower was about the same as from a sink spigot. Totally inadequate for washing hair.

Yelp
Breathtaking view greets you as you walk toward the front door of the Inn. Its an old Victorian house dating back to the 1800s owned by the Lacy family, which was the name of the suite we stayed in: Lacy Suite, room 6. Our room was not what I would consider traditional. Located literally next to the front door, you'd think it was the house library or sitting room. Before I checked in, I peeked inside, not realizing it was a guest room. It had a library of books, fireplace, a tv placed on a stand, a couch with an ottoman, and in the next room was a poster sized king bed, but can be closed off with a sliding partition. When I found out it was our room, I was worried, thinking the noise by the guests would wake us up. I never heard a peep but I did smell the aroma of bacon the next morning, as our bathroom is literally across the hallway from the reception/ kitchen. Our room was very comfortable but we were fortunate that the weather was cool and cloudy. Had it been warm, I am sure that the room would have been stuffy and hot as well. In the armoire, there is a fan and you can crack open windows, but there's no screens on the windows, so I didn't' want bugs to fly in, or make it susceptible for people to let themselves in our room (being it was on the ground floor). The bathroom was spacious, and our room had a jettub. This Inn had many nice touches from placing "birthday" balloons in our room for Stephen, had a nice "Happy hour" buffet at 4:30 pm, which included wine, cheese, and other tasty snacks, to the cookies at night (snickerdoodles and chocolate chips). The breakfast was adequate. I agree, it wasn't the most "gourmet" but they did provide a buffet that had something for everyone, from fruit, oatmeal, bacon, eggs, French toast, bagels, yogurt, and such. The reason for not giving 5 stars was the parking. At night, after the beach tourist leaves, you can find parking. During the day, we circled the block once to find a spot located at the top of the street. Its not their fault there's not a private lot (as real estate is premium) but at $300 a night, I shouldn't have to start my vacation getting aggravated over parking. PS: Had a wonderful dinner at Passionfish, http://www.yelp.com/biz/passionfish-pacific-grove-2?hrid=4pQNrz8WLgJl33MphoVZLQ#src:self located about 8 blocks from the Inn.

Yelp
Great house in a perfect location. We stayed in the gable room and had an oven view. Appetizers and wine in the afternoon, cookies in the evening. Breakfast was good too. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
We stayed here a few weeks ago---log weekend for famliy event and were wowed, The staff we top notch and the innkeepers very friendly and accomodating. The view was absolutely magical...ocean crashing, sparkling and foamy waters. We stayed in a cozy room with private entrance to our "enchanted garden", as were there duing a full moon and the garden looked fabulous, even at nite. Usually our B&Bs have amazing breakfast fare and that would be my only slight disappointment here---it just wasn't as amazing as I have experienced in the past. Supersaturated in country flair---immaculate despite all the tchotchkes that must have needed amazing housekeeping skills...please come home with me! Veru romantic----ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Ivy greeted and showed us around and our room is perfect even though we some what have a view of the ocean.. but totally quiet ! Love the area and if this one is sold out , try the gos by house just up the road. It is a four sister inn. Enjoy your stay . We are so much. We have stayed at 6 of their inn up and down the state.

Yelp
This was my first trip with my wife after getting married and I wanted to get an ocean front room of the Pacific. Green Gables Inn delivered spectacularly! We were very impressed with the inn and it has a very quaint feel to it. Once we reached the place for check-in, we were greeted warmly and we were served wine and Hors d'oeuvre. The receptionist was very helpful and even offered to make a table reservation for dinner in the Pier. They gave us bicycles to drive around the beautiful Pacific coastal highway and we really enjoyed the stay. The icing on the cake was their breakfast where they served THE best Eggs Benedict. They were kind enough to customize it for me to make it without any dairy in the sauce. Highly recommend newly wed couples to go there and have a peaceful romantic stay.

Yelp
The grounds are nice enough for a historic b&b. The staff were nice and the breakfast was good. Our issue. We stayed in the rooms across from the main house, in the second level floor above the garage. There is a third floor room right above ours, and the occupants paced the hardwood floors at 2am. They didn't stop all morning. With a family of four trying to sleep, i first tried to pound on the ceiling but they didn't stop. Finally at 5am, I went up there to find an older couple walking around in the dark. Their window was open so I yelled at them to be quiet, and the old woman called me an expletive. Were they on a different time zone? Were they vampires? Or was the flooring so loud and thin that the hotel is the problem? If you want quiet, you should ask for the third floor or stay somewhere else.

Yelp
The room was nice. Perfect bed and jacuzzi tub. The view from our room was great. They served wine and cheese which was pretty tasty. The breakfast on the other hand was plain and buffet style. Everything was walking distance, great location.

Yelp
My family just returned for a short 3 day (2 night) trip to Monterey and as we arrived back at home everyone started talking about what a wonderful time we had. We took the opportunity to get away from, well our own home, for a little break due to being cooped up as a result of all the COVID restrictions. However, we wanted to get away in a socially responsible manner considering everyhting that is going on (so this means masks on, social distancing, etc...). My family consists of 2 adults and 3 teenagers. And all I can say is that the Green Gables Inn was awesome and magical for everyone (and that is an almost impossible thing to achieve). It is located about 3/4 of a mile from downtown Monterey. It is located right across the street from the Ocean. We got two rooms. We spent time in Monterey. We spent time by the Ocean. We rented Kayaks and eBikes. We got salt water taffy. We spent time on the Green Gables Inn front lawn just listening to the Ocean (and eating meals from restaurants that were only offering takout). We loved the awesome breakfast the Inn provided in our room. We enjoyed a cup of hot tea. And we loved the staff. If I could give it 6 stars I would. We did so much in our visit, but felt completely safe (they have their COVID procedures down). It was a great place to be at the center of our Monterey adventure, and yes, now that we are back home, we can't wait to have another excuse to go back and visit the Green Gables Inn and their staff! ******

Yelp
I just enjoyed a relaxing, peaceful week at Green Gables Inn. We had a room in the Carriage House; I think it was larger than our first apartment! Beautiful view, woke up to hear seabirds each morning, saw a doe and fawn out our window, cool ocean breezes, relaxing environment, convenient to all tourist sites. Borrowed the bicycles one day for a ride along the coast. No problem parking, food was tasty. Coffee and tea and cocoa always available.

Yelp
Had an absolutely amazing stay at the green gables! My husband and I felt so pampered there and will defiantly be coming back! We were greeted by Honey who gave us a warm welcome and a tour of the main house and grounds (and the cookie stash!). She walked us to our cottage, which along with the main house had absolutely breathtaking views of the ocean and cypress trees! We enjoyed watching the storm roll in while taking advantage of the delicious appetizer/happy hour which consisted of complementary wine and cheese (the baked brie/ puff pastry was to die for!) Our favorite part was the fire place in the room. Ivy (another inn keeper) was extremely friendly and attentive and brought us wine glasses and a beautiful copper ice bucket to help continue our special evening. Other bonuses: Walking distance to EVERYTHING! Cannery row (including aquarium) is just around the corner. Bike path and ocean is right out front! 17 mile drive and lovers point is right there! Jet tub big enough for two and lovely bath salts! Shower has plenty of nice shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Buffet breakfast was delicious! We had blueberry pancakes and Oats along with the basics; eggs, cereal, toast, bagels... Ivy also informed us that there is a dog friendly unit, which for us is a huge bonus! Thank you Ivy and Honey and staff for pampering us and truly making us feel special. Can't wait for our next visit!

Yelp
Great inn to stay at. My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon here and couldn't be happier with the experience. The rooms we stayed in were very nice and the staff was accomodating and friendly. It's an upscale location and has a way of impacting each person differently. The ocean is literally across the street, with seals visible on the beach. The main house was built in the 1880s and everything is very old fashioned. Breakfast is offered in the morning in the dining area of the main house. The walls are thin so you're able to hear people walking in the rooms above. Because it's upscale the price is a little high for the average person but it's worth it if you want a change from the average hotel. Nothing about this place is average. It's like stepping back in time. It's a beautiful place surrounded by beauty and we both feel very lucky to have stayed in multiple rooms at this location. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Stay anywhere else if you want a warm experience. We knew we would be late, so I called and left a voice message telling them we would arrive around 8pm. We wondered through the house looking where to check in, when we found the desk I said, "Hello, I am Jonathan, you may have received my message earlier." She responded. "You did not have to call. I need your credit card." We had paid online already and when I asked why she needed it. She told me she needed to charge 1.00 on it." and that was it. I asked, "for incidentals?" and she said, "Yes." This was our first interaction. There was no welcoming, there was no, "How was your trip, or "Oh where are you from?" or any warmth in checking in. I asked her how long the best in breakfast has been open, and she told me, " oh Its a corporation, we are part of 12 other inns." That did not answer my question. Then she walked us to our room, she showed us where we eat in the morning and said, "There is sherry there, ice water, and cookies. The cookies stay out over night, but I take away the sherry when I leave soon, so drink that now if you want some." I found this to be strange. Also there is nothing charming about the bed and breakfast except the view from where you eat, there are teddy bears everywhere, if you love teddy bears, you will love this place, there are literally everywhere, I took 10 photos of the teddy bears, in the morning I asked them why all the teddy bears and they told me, they sell them and that the big ones are $35.00. They are in the bedrooms, on all the shelves, in a basket, near the guest book, on the unicorn, in the office, and in the windows! I asked again when this played opened and they did not know, but said the house was build in the 1800's some time. To be honest, it's not worth the money, or the experience. There is no experience. The breakfast is just average, its just a buffet. The sausage was frozen, the french toast was average, and fresh fruit was good, but again nothing out of this world. We wish we would have stayed somewhere else. But everything else was booked, not we know why! Don't book this place, if you have a choice of a different one.

Yelp
Scary. I didn't stay here but I walked in on accident thinking it was the Seven Gales Inn. My boyfriend wouldn't even come in, it was overdone with teddy bears and carousel unicorns--I expected cats to come flying out of all corners, and to find a smoky bar with rich widows drinking gin martinis. Eek.

Yelp
Green Gables is a beautifully unique experience. It does cost a lot, but you get many amenities that make your visit and stay very memorable. For those who have never allowed themselves to be pampered while on a vacation, this is a great first start. I have only stayed in the Carriage House Guestrooms, so I can't make a fair assessment for the other rooms. The hors d'oeuvres are large enough to almost constitute a full meal, definitely large enough to keep your hunger at bay should you decide to stroll the coast and grab a bite to eat at a later time. The wine service is not stingy (other B and Bs only allow one glass). They also off a sherry for any heavier drinkers. This main room is decorated in a Victorian style with the clear vision of making you feel like you feel like you are visiting a simpler time. Sure there is a television and other modern incursions, but the atmosphere is splendidly pleasant. Be sure to read and sign the guestbook before you leave.

Yelp
Adorable. And with the champagne package you get the cutest teddy bear IN THE WORLD! I love TT Pooh! Excellent rooms, oversized stand alone tubs and automatic fire places! Insta-Romance! In the off season, check out a book called "Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns"...in the back it has a coupon for "stay one night get the next for free" for hundreds of B&Bs across the nation. Its an insane deal you dont want to miss!

Yelp
I've had the luxury of going here twice, and it's just wonderful. Let me count the ways: 1. Right on the ocean. 2. Quaint, classic victorian atmosphere. 3. FREE WINE and spirits after 4 pm. 4. Wonderful breakfast and hors d'oevours spreads (the quiche was frikkin incredible) 5. Huge tub, fit for you and several concubines. 6. Big ol' bed and fireplace. Rock on. If I have any sway in your decision to stay here, I'm happy. But one thing: stay in the carriage house- it's the detached area in the back. You can still see the ocean from your window if you get on the 3rd floor. The Carriage house is more $$ but worth it- you get a lot of privacy, the aforementioned tub and fireplace, and your own bathroom (in the main house, the bathroom is shared, no thanks). I love this place, and I hope you do too.

Yelp
It was nice, the best part was the location. Directly across the street from the ocean. I didn't think the staff there were the friendliest, I think it is over priced, great walking distance to the Monterey Bay aquarium and the beach. Didn't think the rooms were the cleanest, the heater vent was completely loaded with dust. My concern was being upstairs and having a fire escape, it is an old building built in 1888. It is does have very nice antiques thru out. Internet connection to the WIFI is very poor if you need the internet.

Yelp
If you're visiting Monterey, this is a great getaway place. Its located between all the main attractions there, everything is walking distance, and you're literally right next to the ocean. Went earlier this year for a mini-vacay. The people who work there are great. We came much earlier than arrival time and they let us check in anyhow. They're very accommodating and helpful. We were greeted by Honey, who even shipped us back a book that I left in the room after we had left. The food is great. They provide an evening wine service that includes great snacks (cheeses, bread, veggies, etc.), and even midnight fresh cookies which were amazing... They provide a breakfast buffet that has a changing menu everyday. By the way, ALL the food here is home made from scratch and delicious, we even bought their breakfast cookbook before we left. The last thing.. the place is beautiful. Its like you're in a different era in there, where everything from the wallpaper to the moldings are of great decorative detail. The best part of the time there was having breakfast and viewing the ocean right at the window. Very comfortable, beautiful, and relaxing. A really memorable experience and we can't wait to go back.

Yelp
My favorite place!! If you are a runner this is pure heaven! This bed and breakfast is within walking distance to Cannery Row.
