FIVE STARS! The vibes in this place are immaculate. Big restaurant, deep wood grain environment, nice Skylights, great prices, servers seem attentive and nice and best of all which I've never seen before, alongside their menu they have a picture menu! So you can choose based on photo. They even have a robot that helps with serving! Five stars alone for Wall-E Will definitely be returning!

Good place for Oshi (pressed) sushi. Tasty fish, well prepared. Got salmon and yukke tuna. The jelly fish salad is a pleasant surprise- big salad with lettuce greens, corn, radish, cherry tomatoes, small rice noodles (prepared so it tastes like shark fin) and jelly fish on top, all dressed in a mild miso peanut dressing. This place is located with a former hotel about initially looks a bit run down from the outside. Eclectic interior as it has a bunch of retro deco. Large clean interior. There’s not too much parking onsite but easy to find street parking nearby. There’s a private room that you can probably book.

Google
Greenleaf Sushi grew in popularity for its budget offering for aburi sushi. Over the years, I believe that aburi has become far more common in different restaurants as well as more affordable, so maybe that's why I feel that this restaurant has grown less appealing to me personally. We ordered a variety of dishes that were decent but not standout. The miso soup that they served was quite sour - we mentioned this to the server and they came back to take the soup from us but did not give us a replacement or explanation. Overall, was okay but would not recommend unless you are really craving aburi.

Came here not knowing what to expect. Green Leaf has excellent fusion foods like mentaiko pasta, kimchi cheese udon, and traditional dishes like yaki udon, etc. Their food was delicious but the sizing was very inconsistent. Mentaiko pasta was enormous and could easily feed two, where the yaki udon was barely enough for one person at the same price. Aburi platter was excellent - fish was tender and the flavours were all there without being too much. Make a reservation, this location got extremely busy on the weekend we were there and we arrived when it opened.

Google
As the restaurant introduction states, this is a fusion restaurant combining Japanese and Korean cuisine. The rich flavors of Korean dishes blend with the relatively refreshing taste of Japanese food, creating a unique flavor experience. It’s like the bold taste of kimchi udon paired with the light freshness of wasabi octopus—alternating between the two makes for a very pleasant dining experience. Overall, the food is quite delicious, and the service staff is also friendly.

Google
does the sight of the food your abt to eat ever make you salivate, but the taste makes all ur expectations crumble down? because this place is the prime example of it! behold- the beautifully crafted 3D omlette tornado rice- that has 2D flavors; flat and dimensionless... it tasted as tho the shoved some gravy powder with water and called it a sauce, and it felt like they coloured some rice with red 40 and forgot to add the flavoring to it. there was also no meat but some corn bits in there???? after a few bites, i was wondering what i put into my mouth, and after a few more, it just tasted salty 1/5 their salmon oshi was better but TELL ME QHY THET DIDNT SEASON THE RICE LIKE THATS THE BARE MINIMUM AND IT EVEN FELL APART CUZ THEY DIDNT PUT ENOUGH RICE VINEGAR IN IT... but they flavour of the fish was fine until it got overpowered by the jalapeño 2/5 overall 1.9/5

This place is hidden gem nested in the edge of Burnaby! Its cozy ambiance and super fast service is something I really enjoyed. Food was out in less than 10 mins. I tried their Omurice and it was sumptuous. It was a burst of umami goodness with every bite! Their various sushi platters are also a must try. Not only is it visually appealing, it tastes really good as well! Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking to try a different take on Japanese food. I’m looking forward to try other items in their menu on my next visit.

Google
amazing!! will most definitely be back again, we got the mentaiko cream linguine, salmon oshi, ebi oshi, dynamite roll and wakame salad 🙏🏻 the mentaiko cream linguine is amazing, can’t wait to get it again and the oshi 👏🏻 they give such a hefty serving of the wakame salad too, was very surprised.

Yelp
Went here recently with a friend. There are no break times between lunch and dinner, so if one wants a late lunch or early dinner, it's a great place to get some good Japanese food. The service is good too, and the place has a rustic quality to it. There is definitely a casual vibe to the place. The aburi was very good. My favourite was the crab between the two we chose. The mentaiko linguine was amazing, too. I like how there was also some shrimp. The tonkatsu was also delicious, but my favourite of all that we ordered was the crab aburi and mentaiko linguine. Our meal also came with some complimentary tea. Which is nice. There are a lot of options, so I would likely come back or go to the kitslano location to try other menu items. I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to try other oshi options.

Yelp
Food is good, we ordered the lolo board Best item is truffle avocado aburi oshi Service is really nice! They serve complimentary green tea

Yelp
Very delicious aburi sushi. B and I came here for dinner and we ordered a couple of items to share. We got the salmon aburi, unagi aburi, scallop aburi, sockeye salmon sashimi and gomae to share. We found the salmon aburi not very fresh. The rest was pretty good. Service was ok. The restaurant is located at a strip mall and there are plenty of free parking. The restaurant itself is quite big and had a lot of seating. The restaurant itself is Korean and Japanese fusion. They offer much more variety compared to the Kitsilano location. They have pasta and other items. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Completely blown away by the takeout aburi platter! Amazing presentation in a high quality box. Sushi itself tasted so good. Loved the assortment - the salmon oshi and scallop were my favorite!

Yelp
Green Leaf Café isn't a traditional sushi spot and is a little more high-end. The service is incredible, and they even have the AI waiter bot that arrives to your table with food. For the appetizers, we had gyoza and takoyaki. There wasn't anything special about the gyoza, but it was super crispy. The takoyaki wasn't dressed in the typical takoyaki/kewpie mayo sauce, it tasted a bit more tangy and sweet. It was enjoyable since it was served in a bed of salad, and the sauce was a great dressing. We ordered the House Omelette Rice, and it was cooked perfectly. The omelette was so silky and the beef gravy had great umami flavors from diced mushrooms. The Aburi platter was the highlight of the meal, it had an assortment of Aburi that all melted in your mouth! I would definitely recommend getting the platter with a group of friends, since you get a chance to try all the types of Aburi and still enjoy every bite. I would definitely visit again, and I would love to try their other plates off the sushi menu!

Yelp
I enjoyed our meal here. The whole restaurant is much bigger than I thought. I personally did not enjoy the sushi too much, the texture of the rice was hard and felt off. My favorite things on the menu are the Mentaiko Cream Linguine and Tornado Omelet Rice. I would have been so content ordering multiple of these dishes to share! It was soo good.

Yelp
Overall this place was pretty good, but a few things really fell short. Came here for lunch on a Sunday a little after noon and was able to get a seat for 2 right away. Service was prompt and attentive. We ordered the deep fried dashi tofu, aburi yellowtail carpaccio, and the aburo salmon oshi. We got up sold on the tonkatsu for +3.99. The dashi tofu was a big hit, definitely my favorite item we ordered here. It came out piping hot, the outside nice and crispy and the center of the tofu nice and gooey. Literally perfect! The yellowtail carpaccio was good but lacked the punch it could have delivered. I was expecting a nice hit of acid from some cirrus, a nice ponzu tang, plus some heat from the peppers. I feel like every flavor note just fell a little flat. The aburi salmon was the biggest disappointment. The rice was hard, the salmon was very thin and lacked any of the smokey flavor that should have been imparted through the aburi process. It literally tasted like it was made yesterday and sat uncovered in the fridge all night. Sadly the worst aburi salmon I've ever had. The tonkatsu was a good filler and a steal at 3.99. However the taste was just mediocre. All in all my experience mostly positive, nothing was disgusting, but most things really just fell short.

Yelp
I could not in my own right mind go here again. The meat on their aburi oshi is pitifully small with each piece being 85% rice. It was hard to judge the quality of the fish since everything was so thin and heavily blowtorched where they lost their defining flavors. I can see a version of this being good but also I'd rather just eat sashimi if I'm going to be eating at an expensive Japanese place. Of the ones on our combination platter, the scallop was the best and the mackerel was a pleasant surprise. The tuna belly sashimi was not good. Mouth feel was a bit flabby and felt like it was just defrosted. Hamachi carpaccio tasted fine but the cuts of fish were pitifully small and felt more like a salad. Finally, the actual salmon salad featured the same thin flabby meat on a salad that was worse than some complementary salads I've gotten elsewhere. I honestly don't think it was worth the meal slot and time commitment this took from me even though it was covered by someone else. I will NOT be back.

Yelp
Greenleaf is one of my favourite places to go in the neighbourhood for oshi sushi! They are very reasonably priced and definitely satisfy my craving. I encourage you to try the platter if you are unsure of what to get at first otherwise the eggplant is definitely delicious and not as traditional. They also have delicious pasta options. They are Korean run and their staff are very nice and courteous. They also have a great takeout options if you just want to grab and go.

Yelp
My husband and I went for lunch at Green Leaf Cafe in North Burnaby. We ordered Hotate Aburi Oshi, the Tornado Omelette Rice and the Cha-Shu Rice Bowl. We arrived early, right at the restaurant's opening time, so we had the restaurant all to ourselves for about the first half of our time there. Cha-Shu Rice Bowl: The Cha-Shu was thinly sliced and a bit on the dry side; however, my husband was impressed with the flavor that emanated from the Cha-Shu. He believes it was most likely torched as it had that "torched" flavor to it. Hotate Aburi Oshi: Phenomenal! Possibly the best Aburi we've ever had. Melt in your mouth texture, and exploding with flavour! Tornado Omelette Rice: I'd seen this dish featured on www.tryhiddengems.com and really wanted to try it. It was soooooo good! I'm Pescatarian but I forgot to inquire about whether there was meat in the gravy. I think because the restaurant's name contains the words "Green Leaf" and because they have a Vegetarian Oshi (Eggplant Oshi) on their menu, it made me feel like I was in a Vegetarian restaurant, even though I wasn't. Hence, I forgot to ask about whether the gravy was vegetarian. The Tornado Omelette rice was so good that even if I were to find out that there was meat in the gravy, I might still go back and eat it again! After reading the list of restaurants that were recently awarded Michelin Stars, listed as Bib Gourmand restaurants, or recommended by the Michelin Guide, I really questioned how a lot of restaurants made it onto the list, managed to achieve the coveted Michelin Star. I saw at least two restaurants on the list where we suffered major disappointment in both the food and service. I can think of many other places more deserving of Michelin stars or recommendation, and Green Leaf Cafe is one of them! Service: Good Parking: Plentiful and free! Location: Just outside of Lougheed Mall in North Burnaby.

Yelp
For my birthday dinner this year, I wanted to go somewhere a little bit special and a revisit to Green Leaf Cafe seemed like a good place for a special meal. I had never been to the Burnaby location and tucked behind Lougheed Town Center, Green leaf was busy on a Friday night. We ordered: Green Leaf-riend Platter - with 6 pieces of snapper tempura, 4 pieces of the OMG roll (deep fried roll with crab meat, prawn tempura and salmon), green salad (large size), 6 pieces of sashimi, 4 pieces of nigiri and 6 pieces of oshi, this huge platter was beautifully presented and very filling. Their OMG roll really did make us want to say OMG with a crispy/chewy exterior and plenty of crab meat. Their aburi is what theyre known for and it was done expertly as well. Aburi Hamachi Carpaccio - good price for portion size, but too oily for my liking. Fish was fresh though! Aburi Tobiko Roll - similar to a cali roll but with salmon instead of avocado, it was covered in tobiko and then seared with aburi sauce. Tasty but again, quite heavy for a sushi roll. Mango Scallop Roll - my favourite of the night, a scallop roll with a layer of sweet mango topped with a creamy wasabi sauce. This was the least filling of the things we ordered today and the sweetness of the mango paired perfectly with the hit of wasabi flavour. Chicken Karaage - great price for 5 large pieces of chicken. Tasty and well fried. Tornado Omelette Rice - beautiful swirl of egg on top of a tasty rice and doused with a beef hayashi sauce. We really enjoyed this dish and the silky eggs were divine. Mentaiko Creamy Linguine - the minute we saw this on the menu, we knew it was a must order as creamy pastas are a favourite in our family. It was very tasty, but again, we definitely indulged in some heavy/comfort style foods tonight. This dish also hit our table first so being hungry, we had large servings of this not realizing the sushi was also filling... Overall, a great place if you are looking for sushi that will fill you up and a little bit more of an indulgence. The layer of rice on each roll is laid on a bit thick but they are known for the Aburi and do it well. Although I enjoyed my meal, I still prefer my rolls with a little less sauce.

Yelp
This is a place tucked away in a small strip mall in Burnaby. It can get pretty busy so would recommend calling a day ahead if You want to reserve a table.. We ordered Charmisul Soju long with Tuna Oshi, Vegetable Udon, Cha-Siu Linguni and a Tufu Sushi platter.. Most everything was tasteless and needed a LOT of Togarashi and Hot Sauce but the Tuna Oshi was EXCELLENT... Service was good and so was the ambience.. Definitely worth it to come here once but don't recommend any of the Udon dishes if You like spicy food...

Yelp
Amazing aburi sushi and I like that you can order the sampler platter to try out a bunch at once. Their menu has assorted fusion dishes to choose from and each is packed with flavour. Highly recommend

Yelp
This Japanese restaurant is famous for its oshi sushi's. We started off with the dashi tofu and gomae, both tasted good. Then moving onto the oshi sushi - I was pleasantly surprised by the hotate oshi (scallop), every piece was so fresh and melts in your mouth. The crispy tuna oshi was the close second, the spicy tuna matched perfectly with the crunchy deep fried rice. The unagi oshi was a bit lacking, there was a lot more rice vs unagi, making it a bit dry. Overall good service and good oshi's, would likely come back next time!

Yelp
Known for their fusion approach, it's a quaint little spot for some modern food without the glam and glitz. It can be a casual bite or even a chilled date night, whatever the occasion is, Green Leaf is a solid choice. The restaurant isn't too big so if you have a decent sized group, I would recommend making reservations if possible. Also, treat the menu like tapas style and order a bunch to share. You would be missing out on many dishes if you were to only order one for yourself. The aburi oishi aka flamed seared, pressed style sushi is probably what draws most folks to this restaurant. I've had the Signature Aburi Platter before with a bigger party. It's an easy order especially for a group of four or more. However, this last run at Green Leaf was only for two of us so we stuck with individually ordering the aburi oishi. I have to say that scallop "hotate" oshi is my favorite so far barring the fact that I haven't tried them all. The sockeye salmon is pretty good too but I would definitely order the scallop again when I return. The Tornado Omelette Rice probably gets featured just as much as the aburi oishi on people's social media feed because it does look pretty to look at. You must marvel at the way the egg is whipped and shaped like a tornado, cocooning the rice inside of it. It's an intricate piece of food art and should not be overlooked. The one sleeper dish that really stole the show was the Alle Vongole Bianco Linguine. The little clams can be a little daunting but this pasta dish is assembled together in perfect harmony. If you enjoy linguine in a light, non-cream sauce with tons of clams, then here's your winner. The taste is light and not overbearing so you won't get tired of it after a few bites. You may be wishing you had some bread somewhere to dip into its sauce. I would for sure come back for this again. The two times that I've been here, it's continuously busy so don't be surprised to wait a little for your table. They do have some bar seats if you don't mind that. Service was on point and always friendly even though the servers are running around nonstop. Prices are fair and shouldn't break your piggy bank. The menu is extensive and the food is solid so a return visit to try the many other dishes at Green Leaf is warranted.

Yelp
Green Leaf Cafe @greenleafcafeburnaby We came here with two hungry stomachs unfortunately they didn't have any sushi rolls due to short staff. Aburi Tobiko Roll Taste: 3/5 Chashu Oshi Taste: 3/5 Tornado Omelette Rice Taste: 4/5 Both roll and oshi were small bite sizes and taste meh! Surprisingly, the omelette rice was flavourful inside and covered with the smooth toronado omelette. The hayashi sauce enhanced the flavor for the omelette rice. Yelp
This is our go to sushi restaurant in Burquitlam area. Great food, reasonable price, nice room. What else do you need. Always get the snapper tempura as it is amazing. The Greenleafer is a good platter as is the Aburi Platter. Service is always on point and it is a nice room.

Yelp
Acting on a recommendation, a friend and I recently visited Green Leaf Cafe in Burnaby. Things seemed promising from the onset: restaurant was tucked away in the little strip mall behind Lougheed Town Centre with enough free parking, boasting Japanese and Korean fusion, unique boutique decor, and we even managed to snag a table before it filled up for the dinner rush. My friend opted for the green leaf-er combo, while I ordered the "Bibimba" Mushroom Rice and a Sime-Saba (essentially Mackerel) Oshi. Ignoring the fact you only get six pieces of sushi, the Sime-Saba was a delicious combo of flame-seared mackerel on top of pressed rice. No fishy scent, topped with green onions, with just the right hint of sweetness but also satisfied my savory palette. There was a nice selection of mushrooms paired with a layer of seaweed sauce but without the distinctive seaweed/salty flavour. Rice was not mushy, mixed with just enough oil. While the food was solidly delicious, there were a couple of items that made my experience lean more towards underwhelming. Firstly, though everyone seemed nice and friendly, I believe the service as a whole could have been more observant. My friend arrived a few minutes behind me, but we spent around 5 or more minutes wondering why she had not been given the customary glass of water when one sits down at a restaurant (I received mine). After we ordered and our food arrived, the server set our food down onto the table and walked off, failing to notice we had no plates, napkins, or cutlery of any sort. Nobody noticed for the next five to ten minutes (trying to signal a server) until someone finally noticed why we were not eating our food. Secondly, my friend noted the menu had been revamped from the last time she had been there. While I thought this meant new dishes and new prices, after dinner I discovered the current menu (as of Oct 2021) has at least one set of typos. The descriptions for the Mushroom Rice, Cha-Shu Rice Bowl and Unagi Rice Bowl all have the exact same descriptions underneath, "braised pork belly with half a boiled egg". It looked like someone had just copied and pasted the same description for all three dishes. While I deduced the chances of my mushroom rice having any Cha-Shu or pork belly would be low, I was fully expecting to see half a boiled egg. Unfortunately this error made the dish a bit disappointing. Overall, it was a nice experience between the ambiance, the food, and catching up with a friend. I'm currently undecided about returning in the future, but never say never.

Yelp
Very friendly service, decent food. What I do like about this place is the mentaiko creamy udon since it's something I've never tried before. It's definitely creamy as it's name says and flavorful. I also was intrigued by the shape (?) of the sushi but that's about as interesting as things get lol.

Yelp
My daughter found this great place after we went to SFU summer festival! Surprisingly delicious and good for the wallet! Specially for the Omu Rice lover! Like the Japanese オムライス~ Which we don't find much around in Canada! Totally recommend to take a meal here! Nice atmosphere!

Yelp
Green Leaf is a modern Japanese-Korean fusion spot with the most charming decor--it definitely feels very homey. My partner and I were starving! We ordered the following, and they came pretty quickly. Kani Ume Oshi, which has Dungeness crab, tiger prawn, ume dressing, and the Unagi Oshi. The kani oshi was definitely our fave of the 2 oshi, but we were expecting a little more in terms of flavour for both. We also got the House Omelette Rice, which is basically omurice. So yummy but it came lukewarm, which made it less enjoyable. Finally, the Mentaiko Cream Linguine was delicious! It's so creamy, but at the same time, so heavy. I would definitely share because it can get a little sickening. Service was quick and friendly enough.

Yelp
I'm glad that they opened a second location in Burnaby! This spot is much bigger than their original Vancouver location and isn't as busy. I was able to come in for dinner on a Saturday at ~5pm with a group of 6 and we didn't have to wait. The interior is so cute and cozy. Their dishes all have beautiful presentation which makes this spot a good choice for celebrating special occasions. I also really like that they have a lot of unique dishes compared to other sushi places. I'm not a big fan of eggs but I got their house special omelette rice and it was soo nice and comforting. Aburi oshi sushi is also a must try when you come here, and I usually always get the salmon one! The sushi just melts in your mouth.

Yelp
ate a ton in vancouver last weekend and got reminded of what it felt like to be in a proper city (I'm looking at you, seattle), I think I fell in love!! food in vancouver is also, imo, superior the first stop on our trip was green leaf cafe in burnaby. because I am now apparently a fan of ultra zoomed-in photos, please find, for usd$19 per pax and shared among 4 folks: * tornado omelette rice -- the egg was so creamy! * mentaiko creamy linguine -- this dish was our favorite! It was just the right balance of creamy and umami; this didn't seem like a dish one would get tired of eating if they were to eat it alone * crunchy crispy roll -- this was impressively crunchy. Each cut roll was quite big * salmon oshi and dungeness crab oshi -- our group was split on which of the two oshis we liked better. I personally liked the dungeness crab oshi more. While both were nicely smoked, I enjoyed the strippy texture of the crab better.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Green Leaf Cafe is a great alternative and affordable option for for aburi, without compromising too much on quality. Don't get me wrong, Miku is still the best for Aburi, but not everyone can afford to pay $18 an order! The original Green Leaf is on Broadway in the west end, both locations are good but the original is much more intimate and quaint. The Salmon Oshi Aburi is my favourite, there's just something perfect about the salmon, torched sauce, jalapeño and sushi rice that pairs so perfectly. It's the ideal bite, and the flavours are spot on. Sometimes I can find the rice to be a bit too oily, but guess it just depends on the chef. We've tried other menu items like the chicken karaage, gyoza, mentaiko udon, beef yaki udon, omurice, bulgogi platters and they're okay, but not what I would recommend. Each place always has a few things they do well, and what you should try here is the aburi for a much more reasonable price $12-$16.

Yelp
Had high hopes for this place especially after looking over reviews and hearing friends suggest it - maybe that was for the other location? Was definitely severely underwhelmed by the service and food here, ordered the salmon and tuna oshi as well as the omelette rice special. The omelette rice came cold, I am not joking, and we had to send it back - and it still came back not hot! That was alright, but the sushi is definitely not worth it. I've had a lot of aburi sushi and it's one of my favorite foods but I would never suggest anyone to come here if that's what they're craving. Service is also very mediocre. They didn't apologize about the cold temperatures of the food and took 10 minutes for us to flag them down for the bill.

Yelp
Green Leaf Cafe may sound like a vegetarian restaurant but it is actually a Japanese/French/Korean fusion restaurant. Their menu variety of rice and noodle dishes, aburi sushi, appetizers, and desserts. Their restaurant concept is more similar to a bar than your typical Japanese/Korean restaurant. To start we decided to try the Green Leaf-er ($19) which was a sampler of their tempura snapper, aburi of the day and sashimi pieces. The salmon aburi had smoky flavor from the light char on top which made it enjoyable. It was also slightly sweet from the glaze it had on top while the jalapeno slice added a kick. The snapper was battered and fried but because there was a good amount of sauce on top, it didn't remain very crispy. The sauce on top has slightly sweet and the wasabi sauce balanced everything out. The sashimi was really fresh to the point that it tasted almost sweet. Yum! This rice bowl was an intriguing dish and definitely unlike any other chashu bowl I've had before. This cha shu was made out of pork belly pieces that was a balance between lean and fatty pieces. The mayo on top added richness and tangy flavor. There was another sauce on top but I'm not really sure what it was made out of but it was really strong in alcohol flavor. I'm not sure if it was because there was alcohol in it or if there was just a lot of mirin (rice wine). I wasn't a big fan of this sauce because I found it to be quite overpowering. The runny egg on top was a nice touch too. We weren't planning on getting the mushroom risotto souffle at first. But then we kept seeing people ordering so naturally we had to order it too. This was a giant egg white souffle puff on top of a creamy bed of mushroom risotto. Although the egg white puff looked tremendous on top of everything, there wasn't much too it and it was purely egg white. I'm not sure how they made it stay so fluffy! It definitely would have taken a lot of egg whites to make. I wish that the souffle portion had more flavor though because it took up so much of the dish but egg whites don't have any flavor naturally so we ended mixing it in with the risotto in hunt of some flavor.

Yelp
I love the food at green leaf and there's just so many great options to choose from. Their menu is a fusion between Asian cuisines and really brings out the best of everything. I especially like their oshi sampler platter! Takeout doesn't taste as amazing as eating in the restaurant but that's probably to be expected. I got my favourite scallop oshi which definitely still satisfied all my cravings. I was also happily surprised that the tempura was still crispy after sitting in the take out container for some time. All my previous dining-in experiences there have been great too! The place does get quite busy during meal times though. Looking forward to revisiting soon.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I have not been here for a very long time. The scallop aburi oshi did not taste quite as good as last time. The aburi tobiko roll was pretty good. It was fun feeling all the tobiko pop in my mouth when I ate the sushi. The shrimp linguine was ok. I was a bit skeptical of the sauce. It was not as good as the omurice I ordered last time. I regret not eating it this time around! Good service. I will be back!

Yelp
This place never fails to impress - great ambiance, wonderful service and delicious food. I've been a fan of this place since I tried their OMG rolls at their original location. This second location is the one I prefer though because of their tornado omelette rice and bigger space. This time, my friend I got a Green Leaf-riend for 2 and man, we were STUFFED. There was so much variety too - you just enough of salad, snapper fritters, OMG rolls, aburi sushi, sashimi...the works If you're looking to be satisfied, order that. But really, you can't go wrong with Green Leaf hahaha

Yelp
Had a friend gathering today and I have to say this place was amazing. I will give solid 4/5 star for this place Here is the break down: Service 5/5 - rarely you see Asian restaurant that waiter or waitress will provide a phenomenal service. Green leaf cafe is one of the exceptions. Their service was amazing. Atmosphere 5/5 Food: Tornado omelette rice 5/5: you will have two to choose from. I tried both I personally enjoy the jalapeño sauce more. It has more flavor and it made me want to have one bite after another. Last time when I have the sweet and savory I was a bit disappointed. I didn't like the flavor profile that much and felt heavy for me. Basil tiger prawn oshi 4/5: I love the taste but today the rice keep falling part. I promise it is not my chopstick skill. Flavor profile is there. When you taste it you can taste each flavor profile and they all go together perfectly Bulgogi beef platter 3.5/5: for the price I thought it would be amazing but it didn't wow me. I feel I can get it else where for cheaper price. Mentaiko udon 5/5: I like the korean/Japanese fusion. Taste delicious! My only suggestion to the store is if you have an amazing sauce be proud of it! maybe have couple slice French bread or garlic bread or any kind of bread it will be amazing. We can use it to soak up the sauce and continue to enjoy the wonderful moment. I will definitely come back again for more! Before you tasted the food, the food presentation will make your mouth watery just by looking at it! The way they plate and present the food it provides that magical power.

Yelp
The fact that we went there twice within couple weeks' time with family and friends should be strong evidence that this is a good restaurant:-). Attentive service, reasonably priced menu and friendly ambience. We will recommend the fresh salad bowl with or without other toppings, the chicken karrages, the tempura, the salmon oishi (sushi) ... in my opinion, most people will enjoy going to this restaurant..

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place but overall I thought the sushi was just okay. We ordered a few aburi oshi sushi rolls such as the scallop, sockeye salmon, pesto and their house rolls. I felt like the rolls lacked distinct flavours and they all tasted the same. The rolls were more 'moist' and fell apart easily. I think the rice was generally over cooked. The service was okay but they accidentally charged us another tables bill because they thought we were the other Asian couple . Overall it was a nice place try but it's definitely more pricy for the quality and flavour you are getting.

Yelp
Restaurant is big and clean. Had the hotate oshisushi which was tasty but came to the table with part of it being cold and part warm. It was a weird temperature. Would've been better if It was all one temperature. Ordered the veggie udon. The veggies included some carrot broccoli and mushrooms. The broth tasted very clean but it was quite pricey for what it was at $10. The uni stone bowl was delicious. Not much to it except uni rice and some greens. The seaweed paste was okay. The rice didn't get very crunchy even when it was left in the bowl for a while. The tempura was battered nicely and had a thicker dipping sauce than traditional tempera but it worked. 7 pieces or so came to about $7. All in all, a good option for aburi sushi in the area.

Yelp
I made my order at 5:14pm on Uber Eats and I am still waiting for my order at the restaurant. It is Dec 31 but if you are unable to fulfill orders then you should stop all Uber Eats and Door Dash orders. It has been over 2.5 hours and all the waitress is saying is that they are trying their best and have no idea when they can fulfill my order.

Yelp
GLC is one of our favorite sushi places. It's more of a fusion restaurant but the dishes are, in my opinion, fantastic. I've tried the linguine - delicious. But I tend to stick with the sushi dishes (if I want pasta, I'll go to an Italian resturant) Must tries for me are the Aburi dishes - any of them! You can't go wrong. My only real complaint is I need to eat quite a bit of it so it gets pricey very quickly. Not too bad at all.

Yelp
Green Leaf was chosen as our go to place for lunch recently. It had been quite some time since our last visit -- we were anxiously-looking forward to this opportunity of another dining experience there. We (my lady and I) arrived at the restaurant just before the doors were opened, and 'open' light was turned on at 11:30 am. Service from everyone was very friendly, cordial, and helpful throughout our stay. I believe every one of the several servers working during our time there, stopped by our table at least once, to ensure we were being well-taken care of, and enjoying what was ordered -- in what I thought was a very caring way, and definitely not being overly-attentive. What we ordered: (dishes named and described as they are listed by the restaurant in their menu) -- Casual Plates: "Osaka Style" Tako Yaki (4 pcs), Deep Fried Dashi Tofu (spicy, deep fried battered tofu in "dashi" broth, 7 pcs), Crispy Chicken (deep fried soy garlic seasoned chicken, on bed of lettuce, 5 pcs) -- Fritters: Prawn Fritter (deep fried battered prawn, 6 pcs), Snapper Fritter (deep fried battered snapper, soy glaze and wasabi mayo, on bed of lettuce, 6 pcs) -- Fresh Oshi ("pressed" Osaka style): Sockeye Salmon & Avocado (6 pcs) -- Pasta + Udon: Beef Yaki Udon (stir pan fried beef udon noodles). Service from kitchen to table definitely brought a delightful "sensory surprise" -- everything ordered came to our table at the same time. When laid out, almost covering our table, it sure looked so good -- with all the colours, and shapes and sizes of the various presentations. I believe we both let out a quite loud 'wow' -- I do know we sure received warm and wonderful smiles from our servers when they saw our reaction to their delivery!! Food preparations were as good as hoped for -- a wealth of distinctive textures, flavours and tastes. If I had to pick 'standouts' -- for me: snapper fritter, dashi tofu, the fresh oshi, and beef yaki udon -- for she: tako yaki, dashi tofu, snapper fritter, and avocado halves of the fresh oshi. The prawn fritter and crispy chicken preparations were just 'ok' -- prawns lacked distinctive flavour, chicken, though it had lots of flavour, the very small pieces ('slivers') were too thickly-battered. All-in-all, a much-enjoyed lunch dining experience once again at Green Leaf.

Yelp
Have had heard so many good reviews about this Japanese Korean fusion restaurant, I gotta try it for lunch when I was in the area. It was a Friday past the peak lunch hour. This place doesn't close between lunch and dinner and is closed on Tuesdays. The sea urchin on linguine was to die for! It was like having the uni sushi, except that every single bite was pure sea urchin without the rice and the seaweed. They were so fresh and thick (total of 4 pieces). When they melt in your mouth, you wished the taste would linger longer on your palate. The garlic based sauce linguine was so yummy while the garlic wasn't overpowering the buttery flavour. You won't believe the price of it. It is a great fusion dish. The crispy chicken was seasoned well with garlic. I realized I ordered another garlicky dish after the fact. It was a killer for the taste and texture. The crispy batter was like the fish and chip type. The garlic mayo was made in house I believed. However, the drawback was the thirst I got after the meal. It could've been from the mayo because I packed the leftover crispy chicken and the mayo. I had the same sensation... Or it might be the garlic seasoning in both dishes. The vibe and the friendly servers enhanced the whole experience. They were very helpful and tried their best to answer my inquiries about their menu. I will go back with friends to try their oshi sushi, aburi oshi sushi, omelette rice, fritters, grill, gimbab (Korean style roll) and dessert, etc. (The menu had a typo for "omellette" - one "L" too many.)

Yelp
We ordered toronado omurice, mentaiko pasta, karaage and takoyaki. They're all very delicious! There are not a lot of protein in the pasta and omurice tho This restaurant is pretty popular so do considering book a table before coming. --08/27, 2021

Yelp
I haven't had sushi for a year! It's crazy right!? I have always wanted to try this place and have been contemplating whether to order take or dine in. I am a big fan of aburi sushi. I just love the slight charred and Smokey flavor for aburi. Anyways, we finally made our way to the restaurant. Like all the restaurants nowadays, there are limited seating and all staff wears a mask. We ordered salmon aburi, cha siu aburi, hotate aburi and mantaiko udon. The food didn't disappoint! It is flavourful and fresh. Well, most of it... Although the cha siu aburi is interesting, it is also my least favourite from all the food. I think the cha siu could be more tender. Overall, I like the food and the place. The decor is cute. We will definitely come back for more.

Yelp
We had takeout Sunday for our family of 7 and were so impressed with the beautiful presentation in gorgeous packaging. Then we dove in and indulged in the most delicious, fresh, creative food. Soooo good! Amazing sushi and dishes, even the salad was yummy! We all highly recommend Green Leaf. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Woo came back after COVID for takeout and got takeout the food is still amazing! Best sushi place in Coquitlam/Burnaby area! We ordered: Yellowtail sashimi - super fresh Salmon oshi - always order this Negitoro oshi - tried this for the first time and will reorder Tobiko aburi roll (?) - good but too salty, won't reorder Unagi oshi - this is good if you love unagi! Seafood salad - I love this! I think it needs a bit more sauce though Ebi tempura - I liked this too, but probably won't reorder

Yelp
Green Leaf Cafe is my go to place for aburi sushi in Vancouver with extremely reasonable prices for aburi sushi ($10 for salmon oshi compared to $18 at Minami!). As a first time diner, I would definitely recommend the aburi platter to try a good assortment of their most popular aburi offerings. Three of my personal favourites are the salmon oshi, hotate oshi, and tuna oshi. During covid, they are only open for take out but they did tell us that they are planning to open again for dine in on Nov 18th. I always look forward to coming here to eat their delicious sushi!

Yelp
This green leaf store has the exact same menu as the one in Kits, if you were curious like I was. Good food and good ambience! Their menu was mostly sold out at the end of day, so beware of that. The omelette was yummy and the aburi sushi is definitely more worth it than Miku, but for 12 dollars +tip and tax, you will be paying over 2 dollars per bite

Yelp
First time here: amazing, food was really good, salmon Oshi and prawn oshi flavours were in point but they came out rather cold. The beef tatataki is really tasty. We had a spicy tuna deep fried roll that had perfect execution. Service was friendly and we were quickly seated at 1145am in a Saturday. Second time here: noon on a Sunday. A little more fell apart today but overall the food and such was still good. I ordered two salmon temari's and I must have said the word temari three times but somehow I was delivered a salmon sashimi plate which was huge and quite a bit more expensive. I pointed out the error but In all honesty it just wasn't worth arguing over so I accepted it. Then I ordered the mushroom rice bowl and asked for no seaweed sauce. It's literally just an added sauce. They said they can't do it as there's no substitutes but I didn't ask for a substitution I asked for no sauce. Despite going and asking the kitchen she still said they couldn't do it. I ordered it anyways and tried to pick around the sauce. The menu is innovative and the product is tasty but they really need to accommodate to requests better. The overall experience is a 3.5 as the food is good.

Yelp
Japanese Korean Italian Fusion. Green Leaf Cafe seems to have it all. What they offer is the unconventional Japanese Korean cuisine. You'll see familiar favourites on the menu and some items with a twist. What they're popular for is the 'Oshi' or 'pressed' Osaka style sushi. They come out in perfect rectangles packed with flavour. They also have a torched/flame seared version of the Oshi. Not into raw? Don't worry they have rice dishes like the Kimchi Bacon Rice ($10) and Pasta ($10-$13). If you're in the area go have a try. But if you got a large group make sure you make reservations. It was different and worth the experience.

Yelp
We ordered an aburi platter. It was so good. The salmon and scallop ones were so tender, it melts in your mouth. The platter is $65 so probably not to get it all the time. Will definitely come back to try their other roles. My fiancee loves this place and recommended it. I'm not going to say 'No' to her. hehe If you can't dine in, then do takeout and go across the street and sit at the park.

Yelp
For someone who doesn't eat raw fish, this is my place to go when I'm feeling sushi! It is quite far from where I live so coming here is a treat. I like to order the kani aburi. I love how they torch it to give it an interesting smokey flavour. It doesn't have a strong fishy taste to it which is something I like. The other dishes I order is the kimchi linguine, omelette rice, torched beef tataki. The beef tataki is to DIE for.

Yelp
I am a consistent customer to Green Leaf and I've always loved the food here. I recommend this place to friends all the time. However, when I visited Green Leaf today around 4pm, I was more than disappointed. The food was, as always, amazing. However, the service was HORRIFYING. Members of our party noticed that when the waitress was putting our order into the POS system, she put up her middle finger towards the screen. On top of this, I overheard the same waitress discussing to another waitress about lying to a customer about not having a menu item in Korean (I know because I am Korean and speak it fluently). This was particularly disheartening to hear because half the menu was already unavailable. It breaks my heart that a really good restaurant could ruin their reputation like this.

Yelp
We are always eggcited to eat at Green Leaf. We don't even know where to start, both their Omurice and Mentaiko Linguine was it wasn't only the flavours that amazed us, it was also the texture. The egg on the Omurice was our favourite, it was creamy and cooked perfectly. The Demi glacé was great, but still lacking a bit of flavours comparing to the Omurice in Japan. The Mentaiko Linguine is a must try! So creamy and it was loaded with Mentaiko. We absolutely loved the texture of the linguine, it had a bouncy texture and it soaked up the sauce very well. The sauce to pasta ratio was Covid Protocols: Tables were spread out (2M apart) and all employees were wearing masks. You are required to write down your information and sanitize your hands upon arrival. We definitely felt safe dining in at Green Leaf!
