The pictures of this hotel are very misleading. The place looks great in photos, but I don’t know where to begin in expressing my disappointment. The hotel has two buildings, and the more expensive rooms are in a newly constructed concrete building that lacks any character. The building resembles a large cement block, and you can hear everything happening in the adjacent rooms. The rooms in the building shown on their website with the pool in the middle are cheaper so don’t think you’re staying in that building by paying a bit more.
I personally didn’t find the staff to be genuinely friendly (which is unusual in a country where warmth is the norm). There are also several unnecessary rules, such as not being allowed to open the windows, even though it’s a low-rise building.
However, the worst part of all is the breakfast. The coffee was some of the worst I’ve ever had, the bread was stale, the pancakes being served dried, and the lukewarm food seemed to have been leftover reheated from the previous days. The gym is a room shared with the spa and the equipment is old, rusting and outdated.
The only positive thing about this hotel seems to be their commitment to reduce waste and plastic and conserve energy.
With so many hotel options in Yogyakarta, I strongly recommend avoiding this hot mess of a place.
UPDATE: My friend and I got sick from the nasty breakfast they served. After we checked out, my friend went on to Singapore and I returned to the US. A week later we found out that both of us got sick with stomach problems for about 3 days. We determined that it must have been the nasty breakfast they served because it was the only meal both of us shared.
