What an incredible place. I'm new to bird watching and decided to check this place out. I parked on a residential street that had easy access to the trail around the reservoir. It was so nice and quiet in the preserve area, that I layed down in the shade and took a mini nap. I saw several species of birds but have zero clue what they are. I'm gonna drag my wife with, next time I go. I think this may be a regular spot for me going forward.

Nice little break from the suburb. Today was a really windy day though. By the wreckers it said 5 to 6 mi an hour. Because people were having trouble walking into the wind and knowing that we saw a white caps, I'm guessing it was more like 30 to 40 mph Gusts.

This is a nice place for some bird photography. Google will send you into a neighborhood for parking. Best to park at waneka lake which it attached to it. They have volunteers at different times but have met lots of nice people there.

Lafayette is Colorado's first location to gain the title "bird city" through its bird habitat conservation efforts and programs. A big part of their efforts centers around Greenlee wildlife preserve, part of Waneka Lake Park This Nationally acclaimed birding spot offering (free) guided birding walks the first Sunday of each month (1-3 pm) through Lafayette Birds, a city Open Space program. This is an especially great resource for new birders. Also the location of The Shack, a small nature center with birding information run mostly by volunteers.

Lovely place to watch birds. Unfortunately the trails close by have people walking by or riding by playing loud music.
