"Since 1696 when the cobblestones were laid Greenmarket Square has been a popular meeting space. Today, it's where locals and visitors alike barter with vendors who set up shops—from formal stalls to makeshift tables—filled with home goods and African arts and handicrafts. It's open every day, but the first Thursday of every month during Cape Town's city-wide First Thursdays celebrations is the best time to catch live music and street performances." - Katie Jackson Katie Jackson Katie Jackson is a New York City-based writer who covers travel, food, and more. Great place to spend time buying some real art and craft from South Africa. Buy clothes, native musical instruments, paintings, leather and jewellery. Lots of souvenir and gifting items available here. Make sure you bargain well for the best price.

This place is full of life... The sellers are charming and the exchanges are fruitful. You can take photos and videos, and they always offer you a reduction and a gift if you buy at least two items. I met two Congolese ladies like me, who sell there😍 I didn't even see the table of the second one in fact 😅 The others called her just so she could see the other "Kinoise", lol

Very good place to buy souvernirs and gift for South Africa Trip. Lots of stone sculptures, wooden sculptures, arts, etc. made by local artists. you may need to bargain a bit to get a good deal, but the price is good to support local people as well.

Colourful place and easily get everything one need for an African vibes. Need to bargain though but support their business.

It’s way too small and most of the sellers sell exactly the same products. You can pretty much go around the fair in 10 minutes - not worth your time and there are places with better craft work around the town. Also, the sellers will try to make you look at any cost.

I love this iconic Cape Town Market. The crafts are mostly handmade by artisans. They sell clothing, handbags, jewellery drums, bowls, baskets, beautiful paintings of wildlife, and so much more. There are restaurants nearby for coffee, lunch, cocktails, wine, and much more delightful and delicous treatss. The cobble stone paving are hundreds of years old. The traders are friendly and wonderful to chat to, they come from places across Africa and have beautiful stories to share with you 😊

This was such a great place to shop for souvenirs! I loved seeing all of the colorful clothes, textiles, shoes, masks, etc. Remember to bring cash for a better price and don’t worry about negotiating a bit, especially if you buy multiple things from the same vendor. We enjoyed walking around and spending at multiple vendors.

A large collection of vendors selling touristy handicrafts--most of which can be found at any area catering to tourists. We enjoyed chatting with the mask vendors and my kids picked up a few trinkets. There's also a stall selling some older beads that was interesting. Vendors were friendly/patient with our kids. It's a good launching point to the walking street one block over and exploring the central business district.
