I just witnessed something a little troubling in regards to how a younger employee was interacting w/ an elderly woman, who was Hard of Hearing, at check out. This happened 12/11/2025 around 8:25 pm
I didn't overhear the entire conversation as both parties spoke very quietly, but what was very clear was the annoyance of the cashier. Eye rolling, finger tapping, an audible tone, very little patience, not looking to problem solve at all. Meanwhile it seemed like a classic issue of miscommunication. The older woman even turned around and apologized to everyone in line for holding things up, and said she couldn't hear. Both parties seemed very frustrated.
I really hope staff is trained on how to interact with people who are deaf or HOH, and are taught the importance of patience. I understand this employee must have had a long day (it was 8:30 pm after all) but it was really disheartening to see someone treat an elderly woman who was Hoh so poorly.
This isn't a Walmart it's a nice local grocery store where people expect a little more patience and kindness.
