Meet the villagers whose livelihood depends on the unusual civet coffee - SilverKris

"A social-enterprise coffee producer and buyer that has worked with indigenous smallholders since 2007 to sell fair-trade, organic, single-origin beans — including a small, ethically sourced civet-coffee line. The operation processes 15–25 tonnes of organic coffee annually, with civet coffee making up about 10% of output; farmers are paid a premium (for example, P900 per kilo for civet beans) and receive unprocessed droppings to ensure authenticity. Products are sold ground or as whole beans (starter retail packs from around P700 for 70g) and supplied to hotels, coffee shops and souvenir stores locally, with an online retail partner serving international customers. The founder has long-term relationships with Blaan communities, provides training in better harvesting and processing, and enforces cruelty-free sourcing by buying only beans eaten and excreted by wild, free-roaming civets — a practice that has helped boost local incomes, support smallholder livelihoods and encourage wildlife-friendly conservation measures." - Edgar Alan Zeta-Yap

Great find in Gensan! Fred, the owner, welcomed us warmly and even let us try their amazing civet coffee. Love that Greentropics supports the Blaan community through sustainable coffee farming. Good coffee with a meaningful cause!

We where there to buy Matututum's Arabica coffee. With a little bit of chit chat we managed to meet Fred the owner of the coffee roastery shop. He gave us a quick tour of how they roast their coffee from their imported machine and their owned made roast machine. It was an incredible experience on how it all started and how Civet (which they even have) and Matututum's coffee got discovered. Bonus was his Son (who is a master roaster) was also there and they managed to brew us a coffee for free taste. It was a lovely experience. Definitely recommend to support and buy local. BTW, they will put up a coffee shop soon. But please proceed to Flavor Catch coffee shop as it's her daughter. Thank you to Sir Fred and his son. What an enlightening experience and knowledge gain during the short story. We appreciate it!! GodBless! Amping

Help a local coffee farmer. Take your coffee here. The quality is at par with imported beans. They also organized coffee appreciation nights at 3brews cafe, where the coffee shop owners, come to make various recipes using locally produced coffee. If you are a coffee fan, you will surely enjoy their various brews.
