Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I have known this shop for years, and as a very regular commuter, I had been going there for years for tires, gloves, etc. and always had a good experience. So when I decided to take the plunge and buy an e-bike, I found the that they had a Specialized Vado in stock, so I ordered it online, paid in full with CC, and planned to pick up the bike the next day. I did get a message that the bike was ready by noon the next day, and bussed it on over to the shop.
When I walked in to pick up the bike, I gave them my name and the sales guy looked up my order. I also needed a new pair of gloves so picked out a pair. When I got back to the register, the salesman gave me this giant form to fill out and said I could not take the bike until I took a 'test ride', no exception, and I needed to fill out waiver, give my CC and drivers license. I let him know I had already paid in full, and he rudely said there was no way that happened, and no there is no discount on the gloves, despite paying full retail for a $4K bike- ok. Then the bike disappeared for about 30 mins while the mechanic set up the bike- which had been done earlier?
Bike shows up and I ask to get a tour of the details, being new to ebikes. The sales guy could turn it on, but could not even figure out how to turn the light on an off or change 'modes', and did not seem to even care to know. Frustrated, I said I would figure this out on my own, and thank you but I will be heading out. Sales-primate then just walked off. No "Thank you for your business" or offer to even hold the door open, just crawled off.
C'mon, Greggs! When a 30 year customer pays full retail and just wants a little info on how the bike operates, someone should at least try. Not gonna name the sales guy, because others were there, heard my questions, but no one chimed in to help me out. From this we can assume every sales person carries this same level of apathy.
Sadly, I cannot ever recommend that anyone go to Greggs Greenlake, and I will pass this story on. And I used to think Aaron's Bike was Seattle's worst bikeshop, but they now take the crown. I will be going to see Peter at Westside Bicycle from now on. They give a damn!
