Very friendly and kind staff, talkative and informative. Good vibes in this place, and good prices. Good music playing and the perfect funk for an amsterdam coffeeshop

Michał

Google
Absolutely love this place. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Vibe is awesome. No many place to sit but this reflects unique vibe

Alejandro Robledo

Google
One of the best and simple Coffeshops in amsterdam, which is the best there is the vibe the good energy of the place, the guys in charge always friendly and smiling, they have a wide knowledge of any product there so you can ask for a good recommendation. Confortable metal chairs that you can spend hours there, and wood sitting bar where you can sit and enjoy the view of the walking people passing through

Corso Vignoli

Google
It's literally 10 square meters with 2 tables, but the quality of the products is truly worth it. The price is much more convenient than the major shops, with higher quality and even the personal is very gentle. Very very recommended

Bonnie Stuchbury

Google
Not what I expected when visiting a 'coffee shop'. This place is tiny and cramped. Stickers on the wall were pretty cool though. Don't expect to hang out.

Google
I passed by grey area Amsterdam on a random one. Great Coffeeshop and chilled vibes. Staff was willing to be patient and was happy going over the vast variety within their menu at grey area. I loved the stickers and messages all over the shop. It’s One of a kind and I hope to return next time I’m in Amsterdam.

Google
Everything just smells good but smokes very basic! Won’t be able to visit again. Really sad and you didn’t offer me anything after I told you three of your strains were dead! This used to be my favourite shop! Now what on earth has happened to the quality?

Ollie Moseley

Google
The queue if you've ever walked past this place speaks for itself. Either be early, or willing to wait. But it's worth all the hype you either think it's got or should have. Top shelf weed, with a genuine need to serve the customer. Range in bud, hash, and resin is silly and all at as fordable prices to make sure you come back time and time again. Discounts are big on bulk here, so if you find a straight - commit over your trip if youre on a budget too

Yelp
Very friendly and approachable staff. I told them it was my first time in a "coffee shop" and they answered all my questions, made recommendations and were overall chill and not judgey. There are a few small tables to smoke in the tiny shop. The whole space is covered in stickers and feels like a cool spot
google avatar

Rebecca R.

Yelp
I like to get my smoke on more than I like to get my drink on. I'm a midnight toker for sure. I went to quite a few coffee shops and found the bud to be weak comparatively to our dispensaries in Detroit, Michigan. Grey Area was the best high in my experience. Just don't travel back to Paris on the train with any. The dogs will get you. And if Snoop and Willie have bellied up you know it's the spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome store, super friendly and helpful owner. Definitely add it to your list of shops to visit.

Yelp
Delightful and perfect from consumer goods to hang area. The guy behind the bar was super nice and gave great recommendations.

Yelp
It isn't by chance that I decided my first review of Amsterdam to be of this coffeeshop... Knowledgeable, happy and fair personnel. The check IDs and they are happy to give help you make the best choice as far as buds and prices. They sell by weight as well as price. Great selections for everyone. Now on to why I didn't give a full 5 stars... The place is small and packed so you can't really stop and smoke. Another downside is the fact that they only accept cash (though the ATM matchine isn't far). Definitely recommend for those who want good product for fair price.

Yelp
Grey Area has not changed much in well over a decade-- and that's a good thing. The layers of graffiti and stickers keep piling up and the weed stays excellent. The product really is a notch or two above most local competitors' in terms of quality, both taste and effects. As legal cannabis growing in North America continues to improve, Grey Area can still compete with its counterparts in California, Massachusetts, British Columbia, etc. I find that many strains here even have a certain Dutch funk to them that is not common across the pond. Very cool! A nice change of pace from the obsession with fruity terpenes and THC percentages currently sweeping America. Despite these uniquely European qualities, however, the American hip-hop soundtrack and cramped, grimy interior remind me of Brooklyn. Great if you're a homesick New Yorker. Just don't plan to hang out all day-- space is very limited and seating is a hot commodity!
google avatar

Foodie E.

Yelp
Local feel with a good selection of strains and great choice of hip hop playing. The grimy decor adds a cool factor to the interior of the place and exterior as well. Seating inside and also on the window ledge outside. This place is a definite gem.

Yelp
The Grey Area coffee shop is a old school shop that has been around for along time. Plastered in stickers all over its walls. Now it's busy usually and it's very small inside. I'm giving it a 4 though because they have really good selection of bud and hash. Currently they have the 2017 cannibas cup winner and a new bud called fruitcake which is strong and super flavorful! Not a great place to chill inside though.

Yelp
What do you do before a tour at the Anne Frank house so after the Anne Frank house you can sit near a canal and reallllly ruminate on the atrocities of war and genocide? Visit Grey Area. Went to a handful of shops in the 'Dam, and none really blew me away in terms of what they offered and vibe. Enter Grey Area, where everyone is chill, knowledgeable, and just all around happy dudes. They really made the experience, and even though they don't typically roll ones, they were accommodating and rolled several for our group so we could enjoy. Get the silver bubble, some of the best I've tried! Also, half of these are strains from Cali so ask about which area real Netherlands strains so you can really feel like a local ;)

Yelp
Went in with a large group of women. This place was recommended to us, but it was sketch. There were a bunch of really creepy guys hanging out there that made us feel very uncomfortable. There are way better (and way less packed with creepers) coffee shops in Amsterdam
google avatar

Bobby C.

Yelp
Agree with Sarah's review. Although I hope I wasn't one of the creepy guys she was talking about.... This is kind of a touristy trap that you read about in American based mags. They sell in American "eights" opposed to grams which is the Euro way... They have pics of Snoop, Cypress Hill and other rap stars up on the walls so you feel cool smoking with all the celebs went but living in Hollywood already, this kind of turns me off. The smoke is good, but guess what--it's Amsterdam, it's good everywhere so ambiance and chillness is what you look for in a good coffee shop -- a friendly and knowledgeable staff helps as well ad some comfy cushions.

Yelp
This is the place you need to buy from! Just tell them what your looking for and they will deliver. The guys that run this place are amazing, they won't steer you wrong. Will be back next time I'm in Amsterdam.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
Good times here! Not a whole lot of seating, but really friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable guys that run the place. They mentioned they are from Michigan, so they are American. There is a whole menu for you to read through. You can buy edibles, joints, hash, or weed. Not every variety of weed is available in a pre-made joint. If there isn't a queue of people, they are willing to grind the weed for you and roll you a joint. They also have a lot of tools, etc. that I believe you can borrow to use. I like the location - it's not terribly big, maybe eight people can sit at the tables comfortably and a few bar stool seats against the wall. I like that you can look out the open window (no glass) and just watch into the street. When I went, there were pleasant people at the store... including what looked like a dad teaching a college aged son how to smoke a joint!

Yelp
Kosher Kush! This place is like a small taste of California in all of Amsterdam. Recommended for my southern Cali 420 enthusiasts looking for some SoCal OG closest to what we have at home.
google avatar

Lucas W.

Yelp
Grey Area is a tiny place with a huge reputation. It has some of the finest weed anywhere in the known universe and a special vibe. There isn't room for everyone at once though. It was originally created by two American enthusiasts known as "The Chiefs". Steve is partying out east somewhere now and Jon has a new assistant. It used to close on Mondays but is open all week now. The shop is a Mecca for American tourists visiting Amsterdam. On the wall is a clock to show that it's always 4:20 and the music is usually old American rock. Glass bongs are available.
google avatar

Asha S.

Yelp
One of Amsterdam's infamous coffee shops. This one, apparently, is the only one owned and run by Americans. This is a small place with a plain grey interior and less than 15 seats inside, 5 of which are bar stools facing one of the colorful walls covered with stickers and pictures. A clock seems to be permanently paused at 4:20. To see a menu, you will have to talk to someone behind the counter and produce your ID. My friend (who I should add had never tried California's) told me that the strain he was recommended was of premium quality and superior to others he had tried in the beautiful capital of Holland. I only stopped here for a brief moment to see what one of Amsterdam's many coffee shops that attracts celebrities and well-traveled tourists might look like.. and was only able to take a mental picture of the interior out of respect for the patrons. Other curious travelers - please be kind and don't linger at a coffeeshop to "people watch." It's just not polite.
google avatar

Chris E.

Yelp
There is a reason for the queue! There is a reason for the queue at The Grey Area when it comes to wanting the best bud in Amsterdam. Personally to date in a league of their own The Grey Area delivers some of the best strains, well ahead of the likes of those available at Abraxas and The Dampkring. "Coffee Shop" in the loosest sense of the word, this place is one for a quick in and out, get what you need then head off to more pleasant surrounds unless you're in to the whole skate/thrasher/grunge kind of thing in a cramped smokey environment. Its one for those who know what they want, not for those who are looking for a pre-rolled. Is this place worth the 10 minutes in the queue - yes. No doubt.
google avatar

Bas V.

Yelp
Probably the best product in town (Kosher Kush for 16 euros is quite expensive, but DEFINITELY worth it). Very friendly staff who are knowledgeable about what they sell. Positives: - Great product - Great service - Have to have been here sometime - Get their seeds from the famed DNA Genetics, probably the best seed supplier in Amsterdam Negatives: - Tiny - Looks dirty - Always a massive queue I've seriously only had it happen once that when I came in, I was the first to be helped. Nonetheless, this is probably one of my favourite places to pick up!

Yelp
American owned by a couple of guys that were known as "The Chiefs"....I believe one of them is now following the sun somewhere...but..Jon is holding the fort ! I think fine for women travelling alone...not to dispute Sara's review Should you not still proudly possess a Nancy Reagan "Just Say No card"...perhaps trading it for a Willy Nelson Best Of CD....than you might find this coffee shop of interest... For many first timers...the coffee shop thing can be a bit intimidating....shuffle on in and let the guys/girls at the counter know you are new...and let 'em entertain you ! Let them know what kind of buzz you like...happy, mellow, soaring, for your Ipod..etc..and they will direct you to the various products. Probably among the best quality in the city...absolutely stultifying products that....lamentably for many...toooo powerful. This ain't your grandmas ditch weed ! The clock of course reads 4:20 Other very good coffee shops, don't buy off the street, but this is one of the better ones www.greyarea.nl Rookies is another great coffee shop of course there is the Bulldog empire including hotel that is a must check out

Yelp
A nice little American owned coffee shop. I think they were from Colorado? Obviously they could go back now ;) thanks to Colorado's new laws. I think they've been in Amsterdam for 15 years now. Anyhow, it was nice to get a little American culture back, it was like the stoned American embassy. Other coffee shops around Amsterdam are all unique and fun in their own way. But after being in Amsterdam a week and knowing some German and a little Dutch (and deciding to be the jackwagons everyone needed to speak English for) we decided to venture to the other side of the city and traveled by boat. Went to the Anne Frank house, then went to the Grey Area and it was very cramped a bit small but their products were great and the staff were enjoyable people, all very nice.
google avatar

Yi Z.

Yelp
Slow like molasses... I feel like they move slowly to artificially manufacture a line. The bf waited 20 min to get to the front, only to buy a muffin for 7 euros. That's 50% more expensive with 50% less content than a similar product at Abraxas. The shop itself is not very pleasant either. There are much better coffeeshops and there's no need to go out of your way for Grey Area.
google avatar

Marcus M.

Yelp
Super small coffee shop that's located next to some great stoner food spots. Usually the line is out the door to buy weed but the line goes by fast.

Dezo P.

Yelp
The people were chill, though one of the guys told me that it was completely legal to walk around and smoke on the street, that was a lie. Not sure why he would lie to me about that but it was enough to not trust to go back there. Weed prices seemed higher than the other coffee shops I have been to. This place is also tiny, almost like a shack. Music was good but that was about it.
google avatar

Giovanni B.

Yelp
This coffee shop was packed with people as tiny as it was. It's so popular that there was a long line forming around the corner. Although the wait was long it was definitely worth it.
google avatar

Summer M.

Yelp
Super low key, chill shop in the DAM. Perfect for those who are experienced with the product. Wouldn't recommend this for newbies or beginners-it might be too overwhelming for you. Guys who work here were super chill, and just make sure you pretty much know what you want so the line can hurry up. The place is super small, so it's crowded when you're waiting in line. 5 stars
google avatar

Shawn G.

Yelp
I loved this place, one of the best coffee shops I visited while staying in Amsterdam on a 10 day trip. All the workers where very friendly and kept a very good vibe going in such a compact place. I waited like 20 min in a line with like 25 other people in a little compact place. It was worth the wait though, because I received some of the best green I have ever tried. It was called gorilla glue #4 if your ever here I highly recommend it.
google avatar

ChuckDiesal S.

Yelp
Head Boogie, and they have some really good Hash! It's a small shop, and there will be a line. Thumbs Up!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
This coffeeshop really deserves four stars for a couple of cool guys behind the counter putting more heart into their business. But the contrast with that heart into their service is that, I dislike the slow line. There were three groups ahead of me in (4s) (2s) and (1 person) waiting and two other customers already doing their thing at the counter and at a table, the two customers already served really didn't need any attention but the guys behind the counter were smoking and not servicing those waiting to order. Sorry, passionate service but slow. There are three top aspects to a coffeeshop that I look for: 1. Comfort (Grey Area lacks that. There's only three tables lacking chairs so maybe two to three people per table. Basic ones at that, not comfy.) 2. Service: I already mentioned the service is not 100% on point. 3. Quality/Variety: I don't think other places "cheat" in anyway except for pre-rolled that have tobacco mixed in. But the more strains you have gets points with me. Other than that, a coffeeshop a little above average because it was the only place that had bongs being used. Didn't see this in any other coffeeshop. The decor is of underground rap or indie music with stickers all over the wall.

Patty C.

Yelp
Seemed a bit overcrowded. Interesting to look at not much for my taste. It opens up at noon from what the sign said.
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
It didn't look like much at first. But you can't beat their prices for the quality of weed. Very friendly staff.
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
Really good selection of bud and the atmosphere was relaxing. Very small so don't plan on smoking there unless you get lucky with open seats. Workers were nice too.
google avatar

Earl H.

Yelp
My first stop when visiting Amsterdam.. The weed and hash menu here is top notch, and they have no problem showing you the product.. It's not the coziest shop in town, but why complain, you're about to get toasty off some potent ganja!!! They always have a clean bong for use, and other utensils... There's a Bon Bon store right across the street which always comes in handy after using said utensils... Overall Grey Area will always hold a special place in my heart and I HIGHLY (pun intended)recommend going here...
google avatar

Cole N.

Yelp
Helpful staff and good herbs! Definitely be back here soon. A little hard to find but worth the search!
google avatar

Inguss B.

Yelp
Can please anyone answer to my question : Can tourists go and buy some bud or they need some special cards or something ? If so - what to do to get them ?
google avatar

Tyler S.

Yelp
Im from california and these guys had some pretty good stuff. Get away from the tourist spots and get lost! I found this local shop where all the locals went and man was I happy? Give it a try and you will definitely like it if you like "coffe shops". Cant wait to go back there again!!
google avatar

Kenny R.

Yelp
Great, friendly, helpful people wonderful products top drawer if a bit expensive! Try " Katsu",near Albert cuyp market,,great the best as far as I've found in thirty odd years. Peace

Nichole M.

Yelp
Way to crowded product was pretty nice. Staff was kool
google avatar

Anthony R.

Yelp
It was cool to check out this historic spot. Not very handicap accessible. Good smoke, though.

Jane W.

Yelp
What a great spot! After quizzing the guy at the check in counter at my hotel he reluctantly divulged this address! And now understand his reluctance! The place is literally a hole in the wall! With a client list like Snoopp and Willy Nelson, they don"t really have to invest in decor - and they don't! After a monumental wait in line it quickly became apparent that each client is tended to on a very personal basis. The selection of bud is very impressive - almost as impressive as the low key master roller who, while undertaking a conversation with me, deftly and seductively rolled me a perfect cone which led to the exact outcome I had requested. Upon exiting, the scraggly, bearded man who was just exiting upon our entrance inquired as to whether we had been happy with our visit (Owner?) ABSOLUTELY we were!

Mitchell B.

Yelp
Walked up and the door dude, Sammy, fed me his own meatloaf sandwich. Nothing but love for this shop, immediately felt at home. The guys behind the counter will roll you a half g joint if you want-- just ask! Had a blast talking bud with the dudes of Grey Area. If you're in the area and into grit, OG smoke spots, and meeting one of a kind characters- DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!

Darryl A.

Yelp
Best product in town with the best developed trichomes worth the wait if ques exodus cheese :)
