16 Best Hotels in Montreal, From Historic Grand Dames to Sleek Newcomers | Condé Nast Traveler

"It makes perfect sense that a hotel debuting during a pandemic would focus on apartment-style living, privacy, and hygiene. The concept behind Hôtel Griffintown takes a stand against this city's hospitality tradition of buzzy restaurants, exclusive hotel bars, and scenes of any kind. Here, the idea is to offer furnished apartments that give the convenience of a hotel, but don't have any of the extra amenities which can drive up prices and, frankly, often go unused. Here, less is more. In terms of location this s perfect if you're the kind of traveler who loves to just wander. It abuts the Lachine Canal , where any real Montrealer within walking distance can be found getting some fresh air, whatever time of year. And the best of Griffintown, downtown, and Old Montreal are just minutes from your door." - Isa Tousignant, Todd Plummer

Hotel Griffintown

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? Griffintown is a neighborhood that has captured Montreal's imagination in recent years, located literally between the history of Old Port and the hustle and bustle of downtown. While the architecture in this part of town consists mainly of imposing glass facade condo buildings, the views are quintessentially Montreal: the river is nearby, the skyline of downtown looms overhead, with the iconic cross atop Mount Royal beyond. It's an intriguing approach to a city which has long fascinated travelers, and this new hotel really captures what Griffintown represents. What's the backstory? It makes perfect sense that a hotel debuting during a pandemic would focus on apartment-style living, privacy, and hygiene. The concept behind Hôtel Griffintown takes a stand against this city's hospitality tradition of buzzy restaurants, exclusive hotel bars, and scenes of any kind. Here, the idea is furnished apartments that offer the convenience of a hotel, but don't have any of the extra amenities which can drive up prices and, frankly, often go unused. Here, less is more. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? The rooms are laid out like contemporary condos, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, serenely pared-back furnishings, separate living and bedroom areas, and plenty of natural light. Kitchens come stocked Nespresso machines, dishes and utensils, and high-end Blomberg appliances if you prefer to cook at home. The clean, sleek design ethos carries into the bathrooms outfitted with waterfalls shower heads and hair dryers. Even the entry level rooms come with their own in-unit washer and dryer. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi is fast and free. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? While there isn't a proper restaurant or bar on premises (there are plenty within walking distance to explore), the hotel does offer an adorable "GH Déppanneur," a posh yet fully-stocked take on the city's classic bodegas. Here you'll find everything from baking supplies to locally-made ice creams for late-night snacking. And the service? You just have to know what you're getting into. If you're the kind of self-sufficient traveler who prefers to explore a place on their own, and come home and kick their feet up for a night of relaxation, then you'll find the barebones check-in desk perfectly adequate, and this is the place for you. If you're someone who expects to have a concierge at your beck and call to make dinner reservations and draw walking maps of where to explore, you might consider staying elsewhere. What type of travelers will you find here? Architects. Art lovers. Cosmopolitans. Anyone who wants to explore Montreal, but sees accommodation more as the stylish place to rest their head than their gateway to the city. What about the neighborhood? The hotel's many glass windows aren't there just for natural light—when you're here, you really feel like a local. Griffintown is all about condo living, and this unique "aparthotel" accommodation truly helps you experience the neighborhood like its residents do every day. Explore the vintage shops and old brownstones located in the shadow of glass condo skyscrapers, or walk to dinner at any of the hip restaurants along rue Notre-Dame Ouest. When you're here, you're part of the neighborhood. Is there anything you'd change? Not really—the whole point is to go into this property not expecting a traditional hotel experience. It does its thing, and it does it well. Any other hotel features worth noting? I know I've gone on about the neighborhood, but the hotel's location really is excellent if you're the kind of traveler who loves to just wander. It abuts the Lachine Canal, where any real Montrealer within walking distance can be found getting some fresh air, whatever time of year. And the best of Griffintown, downtown, and Old Montreal are just minutes from your door. Bottom line: Why are we choosing Hôtel Griffintown? If you want to feel like you're blending in with the cityscape, this is the place to do it." - Todd Plummer

Stayed at The Griffintown Hotel as a family of four (two parents, two young adults) in a large apartment on the 15th floor. Overall we had a really great stay - apartment was exceptionally clean, quiet and well laid-out which we appreciated. The view was an added bonus! Griffintown as a neighborhood is safe and walkable, and the distance to Old Montreal is only 20 minutes on foot. Only a few suggestions for improvement: walls could benefit from some paint touch-ups, bedding for the pull-out couch should be stored in the apartment (it was delivered promptly when we asked for it however) and a few detergent pods for the washing machine would be handy. Compared to hotels downtown, pricing for the apartment was good. Would definitely recommend!

Very friendly staff and clean room. Giving room four stars because space is a quite tight in bedroom and when pullout couch is extended. Parking was easy and we were very grateful for laundry in the room. Location was safe and nice, urban park nearby.

There were definitely some positives to staying here. The apartment was very spacious and exceptionally clean, which we appreciated. Having a full kitchen and in-suite laundry was a big plus. The location is in a nice, quiet neighborhood and it’s a relatively short walk to the Vieux Port, which we really enjoyed. However, it’s about a 25-minute walk to the nearest Metro station, which made exploring the rest of the city a bit more challenging without a car. For the price point (over $1000 CAD for four nights), we expected a higher level of comfort and attention to detail. The apartment wasn’t fully equipped for two guests: there were only two towels and two espresso cups provided, and we were missing essentials like extra pillows, a blanket for the couch, and a pan for the oven. The pillows we did have were quite uncomfortable, and the mattress wasn’t great either. While the smart TVs were a nice touch, they require your own streaming login. As international visitors, we weren’t able to access our accounts due to regional restrictions, so we couldn’t really use the TVs. The balcony had a lovely view, but no furniture to enjoy it from. A lamp in the living room would have also made the space more functional and cozy in the evenings. Additionally, the staff member at check-in didn’t come across as particularly professional or welcoming, which set a disappointing tone at the start of our stay. Overall, there’s a lot of potential here, but the small oversights and lack of polish added up. At this price, we expected a more thoughtful and guest-ready experience.

Location is the main reason we stayed here. Overall the hotel is newer and well kept. They suggest you text them for any needs but they never respond to the texts or provide service through them so you need to make a trip down to the lobby for any needs. The back of the small pouch they give you that holds your room keys has a number to send SMS (txt) messages to.

We stayed here for two nights. The room was clean and just what we needed. It was within walking distance of Old Montreal, restaurants, and shopping. We didn’t notice any traffic noise while inside, though it is close to highways and streets. I’d recommend it.

We had an amazing experience! We chose this hotel for the space it provided, location and the amenities. Joanie and her team were professional and assisted us with everything our group needed. I would highly recommend staying here, it was a wonderful way to experience our Montreal weekend 😊

Google
Great location, very nice rooms, pet friendly (they love them). Such a great experience. First time stay, won’t be the last. Walk to downtown, Old Port anything you want to do in Montreal. Things can be quite a walk, but local Uber rides can fix that. Rooms are comfortable, very clean and beautiful views from all. Balconies and opening windows! Any issues are promptly resolved. The staff is so GREAT, they truly enjoy pets, one desk person even brought in home baked treats. They live their guests and any pets to death.

Another excellent stay at Griffintown Hotel. This is my second time returning and it has yet again gone above and beyond my expectations. Impeccably clean rooms, excellent service from check-in to check-out, beautiful location and our needs were always attended to immediately. Would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying here again and again when I am in the area. Thank you to the wonderful Griffintown Hotel Team!! :)

Yelp
See the problem here is the word HOTEL. It is grossly misleading. This isn't a hotel at all. Well, it's priced like a hotel and there's a reception desk for check in, but that's where the similarities end. It's not a hotel at all. There is zero service. You check in and then you're on your own. The room is clean, yes, but clean rooms are table stakes. I had the one bedroom apartment and it's tiny with too much furniture but whatever. It's ok. But there is no room service at all. No housekeeping service. No sign of people besides the front desk clerk. Also this "hotel" is not in a cool area. It's sorta nowheresville with nothing around it but new generic, condo buildings, all next to a rather bleak canal. I wouldn't stay here again. But if the price is right and it's a short stay and you're looking for an apartment to rent and not a hotel room, then sure, do it. It falls into the category of "not bad". They still find it in themselves to charge you upwards of CAD$20 per night for parking. Hmmm. Can you do better ? Try.
