The atmosphere is typical of a classic restaurant in any major city. The decor is not updated or trendy but that is not why the clientele come here. The service is attentive, yet light and not overly serious. The food is delicious. Evidently, the steaks are their best menu items. The presentation is not cutting-edge or modern but the food is well-executed and satisfying.

We dined here for the first time based on recommendations from friends and they were not wrong - what a great place. The service is great, the staff is actually very friendly, and professional throughout. We tried bone in NY strip, ribeyes and filets and all were cooked exactly like we asked for. The menu is great, many options, also on the appetizer side. Book well in advance - this place is popular!

Highly highly recommend this place! I love the food, atmosphere and the level of service is great! I’ll definitely return when I visit Berlin

When we made the reservation, we weren’t given the option to choose a table by the window. Upon arriving at the restaurant at 5:00 PM—our reserved time—we asked for a window seat. Unfortunately, after an hour and 40 minutes of being there and already having paid the bill, we were pressured to leave because the next guests had arrived, despite several other empty tables being available. That said, the food was very good. The meat portion was quite small and took 45 minutes to arrive, likely because I ordered it medium-well. The lettuce salad was incredibly fresh and delicious. However, the sides and sauces to accompany the meat are charged separately. There’s no music, and the service is just average.

Grill Royal in Berlin is a must-visit for meat lovers and anyone seeking a high-end dining experience. The restaurant boasts a stylish and contemporary ambiance that perfectly complements its menu, which focuses on top-quality steaks and fresh seafood. The service is attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring that guests feel well taken care of throughout their visit. The steaks are expertly cooked to perfection, with a rich flavor that reflects the quality of the ingredients. The extensive wine list offers excellent pairings for every dish, enhancing the overall experience. Additionally, the lively atmosphere and occasional live music create a vibrant setting. Overall, Grill Royal combines exceptional food, attentive service, and a chic environment, making it a standout dining destination in Berlin.

My favorite restaurant in town. The most superb meet ever trier in my life. Atmosphere is unique with a beautiful view and the service is very meticulous.

A little bit fancy place to go out for dinner, with something for every taste. The food is good, but to be honest, the steak is always a bit over-seared on the outside for my liking—it’s just not my style. However, my friend enjoyed it, so it might depend on personal preference. Still, it’s a nice spot to go out, have a relaxing dinner, and chat with friends.

I like Grill Royal. Food is always good. Always maintain the quality. Service is fine, no long waiting. Sometime can be too loud, and summer can be very warm inside.. It’s pricy place but I like the easy vibe. Easy going. I always had a good time. juicy steaks, well cook, seafoods are also fresh and tasty. Side dishes were good. Nothing to complain. If the lady room had better vibe, it would be PERFECT.

Yelp
That was amazing restaurant... don't go there wearing jeans as it's classy place. I was happy something inside the both of us told us to dress up classy instead of smart casual. We couldn't find booking via the website as they were fully booked but our beautiful hotel concierge was able to get us a table. We got stuck in the traffic and we arrived 15 min late yet they still honoured the booking. The restaurant was packed with very happy customers. The staff were from we walked in to when we left super nice. They are all smiling and very very professional. Now let's talk about the food as I am sitting down now drooling just thinking about it. My daughter ordered the northern Germany filet mignon. She did order the smaller size and she regretted that as it's small if you are super hungry. But don't worry she left happy and full as I shared my T-bone steak. That piece was huge so we both ate and we got full while we still had half of it staring at us. Now a sides comments if you like your steak medium then order it medium well as my daughter ordered her steak medium and it came out medium rare. For me I ordered the medium well and it came out medium rare. I don't eat meat this way but honestly it was delicious so I am not going to complain . They were so good with the gluten free issue as I didn't have any issues at all after. We got the tomato salads, mash potatoes, french fries and the mixed salad. For dessert we got the crème brûlée and the chocolate mousse. Holy moly that was good as well. Overall it's a place that I will be going back to without even thinking twice. What more do you want than good food, good service and stunning view... Thank you everyone for amazing memories

Yelp
I ordered the lobster bisque and it was absolutely inedible. I told the waiter I couldn't eat it (i very rarely send a plate back) and that I didn't want a replacement dish. The waiter insisted that I order something else and I said, "no thank you." After I declined to order something else several times in a row, he offered me a replacement fish stew free of charge. I reluctantly said yes. At the end of the night it was on the bill and they initially said that I had indicated that I was hungry and I wanted to eat it. Lies! Seriously the waiter lied. I asked the waiter to step away from the table and I told him that he should not have tried to pull this stunt. He then said he would take the dish off the bill but it had been a busy night and he had been very attentive to our table, more so than other tables. I told him to keep the cost on the tab but that I would never come back. Most other dishes were mediocre at best.

Yelp
I can't say exact location but it's siting on one of the rivers! Probably it would be more enjoyable at summertime! They offer aged steaks and the quality was very good even tho they can't beat the steaks that we have in USA! I always go wrong on the tomahawk. Every time I tried it, I found it chewy. I guess it's the cut! The rib eye was good and decent! The appetizer and the desserts were good! Over all nice restaurant to dine in and little fancy! The prices are not cheap! The staff was nice and the service was great!

Yelp
Highly recommended.Good service nice atmosphere and amazing food. Our server Rene recommend us try meat tartare he mixed it up in front of us taste was unbelievable

Yelp
Ceviche was fresh and nicely seasoned. My steak was good (sourced in Germany), not quite like a US one, but good standard. Sitting at the river makes up for the slow service.

Yelp
We came here for the aged steak as it was rated quite highly. You have to have a reservation for this place. It's a must. We went without a reservation and they said we got only 1.5 hrs and we have to finish by then. It took at least 30 min for the food to be prepared and they do run on their schedule as we were rushed out. Yet, the experience was great~ the waiter was very friendly and quite charming. Coming from the US, we felt that eating steak from Omaha wasn't as special as eating the steak from Germany. Nonetheless, the food was awesome~ the Hamachi and Brandenburg Burrata was absolutely amazing!!! The Entrecôte (organic meat from historic Temmen farm) was pretty decent. However the recommended New York steak aged on the bone and t-bone steak was delicious!

Yelp
Ask for fried mushrooms onions and was told the cook will not cook the combination. Coming from Colorado this place is a jokers paradise. A lot posers/ fakers. If this place is Berlin's best steakhouse I'd rather eat at McDonalds. Overpriced and horrible steak. As a rancher I can tell that the cattle were killed in stress so the meat had a lot of adrenaline in the taste. DO NOT GO! A waste of $$$$

Yelp
Heard back from this restaurant today after TWO weeks. Suffice it to say they believe that what their staff (waiters, cooks etc) put on the table is THE CUSTOMER'S responsibility and they can't be held accountable if you eat their under-cook and tasteless food! They just want your money! Avoid this place at all costs! Eating here is like a shot in the dark. If the waiter had come around more than the handful of times during the entire evening we were there (for nearly 2 hours total) then maybe I would have had a chance to point it out and ask if that was normal preparation for my Lobster tail which was an additional 24 EUROS! The food came out, delivered by servers, and they disappeared as soon as the plate was set down. The waiter did not come back until the plates were being cleared away. Yes I did eat some or most of the semi-raw Lobster tail but I did that based on the assumption that this OVER-PRICED restaurant would actually know how to properly prepare them! I ended up sick a few hours later and count my blessings that what I suffered was mild compared to what COULD happen if you eat raw or under-cooked Shell Fish. Something I now know having had this ordeal. Posting their reply next!

Yelp
Love this place! We met Udo Walz one morning in Berlin and had a lovely conversation with him. We told him about our Berlin itinerary and he was adamant about us dining at Grill Royal. He even called and made a reservation for us. We had a wonderful table and experienced excellent service from the entire wait staff. The food and drinks were amazing. I hope to dine here again during the daytime to enjoy the lovely view.

Yelp
Despite the super long wait to get our food (nearly 2 hour wait) I was pretty satisfied... Maybe because I was starving? The wagyu beef was delicious, soft and buttery. Also the lobster was delicious. Everything was seasoned nicely. My only gripe was that wait time for the food I mean they're just steaks, 2 hour wait is just ridiculous. But then again good service is hard to come by in Berlin...

Yelp
I recently ate here at this modern looking and spacious restaurant. They offer a wide variety of steaks from around the world including the U.S. of course, and they also offer a couple of fish dishes. I shared some oysters from France and Germany with my group. The oysters from France tasted better. I opted for an Australian Wagyu steak at 65 euros for just under 9 ounces which I guess is reasonable. It was very tender and flavorful, so I definitely recommend it. Some of the salads are super large here and 1 order may be enough for up to 5 adults, so be sure to ask how big the portion is. Service was pretty good. Our waiter told me he served Andrew Bynum after the Lakers won their last championship which seems like ages ago. Be sure to make reservations in advance. I made mine about 3 weeks ahead of time via e-mail.

Yelp
Honestly, I'm surprisingly disappointed. I like to think I am somewhat of a foodie . I love food, especially steak and this has to be the worst steak, most bland sides for such a high cost restaurant: I would compare to an Outback Steakhouse or Texas Roadhouse (actually I prefer them) They were rude when we gave our feedback saying it's the German way. Than don't sell American steaks and butcher them. The managers need to go to hospitality school so basically I would never come back nor recommend

Yelp
Very disappointed. The server was overly-pretentious (his loss, as we are American & always tip 30% for decent service). We had a bottle of Cote du Rhone & the Burratta, which was the only good portion of our meal. We ordered the large fillet to split, which was fat-laden & chewy. They probably thought "let's just give the Americans a shitty cut. They'll never notice." We ordered medium rare, so yes, we noticed. Side dishes were cauliflower/broccoli (quite good!), water cress salad (good), mashed potatoes (which were cubed potatoes w/ parsley--meh) & sweet potato fries which had been lying around for several hours & coated in SALT. LOTS & LOTS of salt. We didn't eat them b/c of the salt, BUT our server made certain to go ahead & charge us for them. Douche. :( So if you're looking for a "one step up to Outback Steakhouse" and a pretentious server w/tattoos who is much higher caliber than you, then this is definitely the place for you! (Don't waste your money)

Yelp
Swanky dining. Excellent steaks. I've had some amazing cuts of beef in my lifetime from various countries, but I never had a chance to try a German steak until now. I ordered a cut of aged filet, which was perfectly cooked, rich and full-flavored. My husband tucked into a bone-in behemoth sized steak that was also delicious. I'm a fan! Starters, side dishes and dessert were also good with the oysters standing out as a real treat. But the star of the meal was definitely the steak. Next time I think I'll cut right to the chase with the following winning trio: oysters, steak and a bottle of wine. Speaking of wine, they have an extensive wine list. Our waiter assisted with selecting a bold German red, which paired nicely with our steaks. The location in the middle of Berlin along the river Spree, sophisticated dining atmosphere (indoors and outdoors), superior quality steaks and attentive staff all add up to deliver a luxury steakhouse experience - heck, even the name 'Grill Royal' sounds posh! I'm looking forward to returning in the warmer months to enjoy a bit of al fresco dining on the terrace and another delicious steak. Note: Be sure to call ahead to make a booking, especially if you'd like to go on a Friday or Saturday night.

Yelp
While planning our trip to Berlin, one of my best friends made a reservation at Grill Royal for my birthday dinner after the restaurant came highly recommended by one of those people with great taste whose recommendation you've got to take. We were joined for dinner that night by another good friend of mine who'd flown in from New York to spend the weekend with us. It was a particularly warm weekend in Berlin and after a rushed walk over to the restaurant from our hotel we were saddened to find the restaurant is non-air conditioned (very typical for Europe). But, the restaurant is beautiful and right on a water way, so the views are beautiful and there was a slight breeze. After hurrying over, we had drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. As soon as we sat down we began to experience the most strange phenomenon as waiters began to drop plates, and glasses all over the restaurant almost in unison. It was as if it had been choreographed. For a minute I wondered if we'd mistakenly walked into a Greek restaurant. Accidents certainly happen, but I wonder if the restaurant had overbooked itself and the waitstaff was overwhelmed (we soon learned the kitchen was too). Soon after sitting down we chose a bottle of wine, ordered some appetizers and then ordered our entrees. About an hour later our appetizers arrived (along with two entrees). By this point we were all drunk. Of course by then, the first bottle had been finished so of course we HAD to order a second to go with our meals. Both of my friends got their food, but mine was lost somewhere, happy birthday to me. I was fine with it (especially since I was drunk), and happily enjoyed my appetizers. About 25 minutes later, after my friends had finished their entrees, my filet arrives. I'd asked that it be cooked medium, but it was bloody, like REALLY bloody. So, I asked that it be cooked a little more. It came back 20 minutes later and was still bloody although slightly less so. I decided to be a good sport and decided to eat it anyway, avoiding the bloodier parts. Really, the appetizers were yummy and the staff was nice enough to comp one of them due to the inconvenience. I didn't love my entree but maybe on a less busy night the food is better. My favorite part of the meal and the evening was the DELICIOUS chocolate birthday cake my friend had arranged with the restaurant for me. It was so so so good and made up for any complaints I may have had. We're a fun group and made light of the situation, but I can see how someone else may not be so forgiving. If you're in Berlin and looking to have a nice meal, I would still suggest you give Grill Royal a try, they really were busy that night! If you like people watching, this is the place to go!

Yelp
Grill Royal is worth trying if you want a place that is a real scene, and, if you're up on your German celebrities and politicians, you may even see some here! Fine dining can be really buttoned-up and discreet here, so this place is fun in that it's more open and you can kinda see and maybe even talk to people. I had a few issues with it - namely that, if you go in the summer, pretty much in keeping with every other restaurant here, it is HOT AS BALLS in the dining room. A ceiling fan or two just would not kill them but they really hate moving air in Germany, amirite? What's up with that!? So I was just schwitzing all over myself the minute I sat down (it was a normal, not super hot night in July). What can I say, they just like it hot here. I was wearing a silk dress so it was a bummer to have pit-sweat during this elegant meal. But hey, you know, going Euro style! The service was also not super-fast, but that's also not a giant surprise. Everyone was super nice, and when we told them that we had to make a show after dinner, they actually picked up the pace... but I believe we waited a good 45 mins between apps and our mains showing up. Again, not really a surprise. The food was awesome! My boo got a giant steak and I got the artichoke (awesome, huge, with 3 sauces), a butter lettuce salad (also great and huge), and the winner: lobster cocktail, which was a half-lobster, with the meat taken out, shredded up with celery and some sauce, and put back in the shell. SO GOOD. One of the best lobster preparations I've ever had. So the food does not disappoint! The portions are so huge, it's probably a good thing that they space it out. If you go, get dressed up, get some cocktails, make a night of it, and I think you'll have a great time.

Yelp
Anywhere that sells steak tartare, I immediately order that without having to look at the rest of the menu. And I am so glad I did here! The restaurant is in an amazing location, next to the water. Its huge inside and was full even though it was only a Wednesday night. We sat at the bar and had lovely cocktails then were shown to our table. It is very upmarket. We got a free bread basket which was freshly baked. The wine menu is huge, however quite pricey. I ordered the tartar which was a starter but I got some sides too. However the starter portion was enough and it was the best steak tartare I have ever had. The meat was very meaty and the chef puts the seasonings at the side of the plate and you have the option of mixing it yourself or the waiter does it for you. My boyfriend ordered a steak and wasn't as impressed with his steak as I was with mine. However there were loads of other cuts he wished he could have ordered..however these were a bit too pricey for us. We ordered a sticky toffee for dessert to share however it was very small but would have been enough if we had had 3 courses each. Overall quite pricey but I would say it was worth it!

Yelp
This Place is one of my top 5 for steak in the World! The setting of this Place is gorgeous just by the river and wonderful Place to visit during the summer months when you can sit outside. Its pretty cosy inside on the Cold months as well and the kitchen does a equally good job. The last time i was here we started with the lobster bisque that probably was the best one i have ever had on a restaurant. Creamy and rich it was the perfect starter. They did have some good classics on the appatizer menu as carpaccio and beef tartar. Me and my wife shared the chateaubriand cooked medium rare and this was roughly 900 gram of great quality beef tenderloin cooked to absolute perfection. A taste of the beef with some sprinkled sea salt brough me to cloud nine in an instant. Though the bearnaise sauce or the herb butter was not needed both where as good as the beef. The bearnaise was the Classic french and fingerlicking good. The herb butter that was all green did a good job complimenting the steak. We ordered the potato gratin with some cheese inside and it was sinfully good as well as the rest of the meal. The bottle of Barolo wine we had with the steak was also good and fairly priced for such a good quality. The glass of Chablis with the starter was one of the best ive had. Service was good but they did one small mistake. When we had settled the bill and picked up our jackets the manager asked us if the evening was good. We told here that it was great but that the big tenderloin was a Little too much food for two. She then replies "But didnt your waiter tell you that you could order the half beef tenderloin?" Hmm no he did not. With a starter and a Chateaubriand at about 120 € we would probably have opted for the half one if it was presented as an option. Oh well you learn something new everyday. Overall an excellent evening with superb food and wine in a great restaurant. We will come back even with the small "flaw".

Yelp
I was iin Berlin recently- eating with Family. Place is sharp but not edgy- comfortable to say the least. We Sat along the River Spree- table for Four. Packed House, as i hear-is usual. While im usually picky, this Place is the bomb in Berlin east! Just being there made me feel great. Service superb. Cant say enough about it! Fam wants me to Participate in the conversation. While not on a par wiith some of the great USA steakhouses, it was great for Germany. really, go there or be Square. From Las Vegas...... Drake.

Yelp
Never expected to find a good, true steakhouse in Berlin but did. Interesting menu, almost all steak, but from different regions (Bavaria, Argentina, US and organic German). I started with steak tartare, probably the best I ever had. It had a very nice flavor whereas many renditions are quite bland. A Bavarian fillet was prepared as ordered but the real star of the main course was very, very thin fried potatoes. They also had a nice wine list with good options at many price points.

Yelp
Don't believe the hype This place has a major following among hipsters and jet setters all over the world. I do not believe the same goes for foodies like myself. Grill Royale has an impeccable interior and a flawless focus on all things grilled or barbecued, and especially the vast amount of different kinds of meat is quite impressive. Just take a peak at the glass door fridges inside the restaurant to catch a glimpse of meat heaven. The restaurant offers a swift and kind service with English speaking staff well drilled in the menu they offer. -So, you might ask, what's wrong then? Firstly, the price level. At prices this stiff I expect next-to-Michelin-starred quality. Sadly they do not fulfill my expectations. The meat is of a good quality (I had entrecôte, the all time test cut) but not at all as great as the price tag would imply. I was actually quite disappointed over this fact - I have had better cuts of the same kind at a fraction of this price tag elsewhere. Secondly, the kitchen performance. When a restaurant of this stature is so overly keen on emphasizing their effort of cooking the meat to your liking, they better pull it off. Sadly, they did not and managed to mess up our orders and cook my meat to my girlfriend's wishes and hers to my liking. Absolutely not acceptable at this price range. The side orders were ok, but nothing more. Green beans are hard to make inedible and the sweet potato chips were crunchy, warm and cooked to perfection. The pepper sauce was cooked on a good stock and had the correct creamy concistency, but the bearnaise was bland and lacked its characteristic sting and the etherical sphere of terragon, if you will. Nice array of German wines, although the price level ranges from a bit too expensive through the roof to astronomically high. Good cheeses, though the selection is quite narrow. All in all a heavily over priced and hyped restaurant which will set you back quite hard on money but leaves you with few gastronomical memories to keep.

Yelp
I seldom review restaurants, but I made an account just to review this one. My boyfriend and I got engaged on our trip to Berlin, and we had made a reservation for the night after to celebrate our engagement. Our server was shockingly rude: although the place was almost empty, when we asked if it would be possible for us to be seated outside, by the river, she basically laughed at us -- as if we would seat slobs like YOU outside! We were both dressed serviceably, although not fancy (casual dress, button down shirt), but we were treated as though we were hoboes. When I ordered red wine with fish (the HORROR, I know) the waitress, incredibly, made a comment about my lack of wine knowledge (nope, I know - I just don't care about your pretentious feelings about wine pairings.) The food was overly salty (particularly the white asparagus soup), and the fish dish I ordered was incredibly bland and unmemorable. The steak tartare was good, but later made my boyfriend feel quite ill. It was also INCREDIBLY hot inside - it was early June and absolutely boiling in the non-airconditioned, non-ventilated restaurant. This, combined with the overly salty food, made me feel ill as well. In a way, it was a good engagement dinner because my boyfriend and I were able to laugh about it and it really made me feel like part of a team, united against this ridiculously pretentious restaurant! However, I would never recommend the experience to anyone.

Yelp
The food was well prepared and tasty. The suggestions from the waiter on the wine were just okay. The service was just okay - esecially considering we had the early sitting and not so many people were there

Yelp
See and be seen - this is the place if you love to people-watch the elite while eating wonderful food. The entrecote is to die for! This place was recommended to us through a friend whom Rammstein himself had recommended to come here. I have definitely spotted a few celebrities dining here.

Yelp
They serve truly fantastic beef here. One of the best pieces of chateaubriand I've ever tasted. Also do try the tomahawk - delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly, too. This is a pricey place of course, but totally worth it if you want to treat yourself to something special (expect around 100-130 EUR per person).

Yelp
Oh Boy, never ever will I go back to this place again. I do know the owners a little bit from back in the days, yet after one of them left to open up another Restaurant they've hired this idiot of hipster Manager who made a 'coked up to be able to cope with his own character' impression, unprofessional in the way he deals with a very simple straight forward situation. I lived in Paris and New York for more than 10 years and just recently moved back to Berlin. Compared to similar Restaurants in New York for instance, Grill Royal has a similarly flattering flair but doesn't understand what service means because the staff seems to think that by acting arrogant a place becomes even more hip and sexy. Because Berlin lacks places like this, from time to time you just ignore that service sucks and that the food doesn't justify the price you pay. Its a typical Berlin syndrome. You go there hoping to feel like you are somewhere else, hoping to see interesting people. My recent birthday was one of those occasions. I went there with a dear friend and we ordered lots of food and asked the sommelier to recommend a nice dry Riesling. (Btw I grew up in the region where some of the best Riesling comes from.) The sommelier looked like he got the job a couple days earlier or had to replace the actual Sommelier that night who called himself sick. He was both nervous and sweating. We felt for him so we just played things really easy for him. He comes back with a bottle and after tasting it both of us reacted the same way: very very sour. A lot of acid. Almost undrinkable. But both of us didn't want to make a big deal out of it and so we wanted to take the pressure off of his shoulders and said its fine. After all we had lots to discuss that night. After half a glass we looked at each other and thought why do we have to drink a wine that's so sour that you hardly can drink it? On my Birthday? Whats a Sommelier there for? So we asked him over and offered him to taste it himself asking him friendly to give us something else. Something dry, not as acidy. (This was actually my first time ever to return a bottle of whine) He came back with a different bottle, now his shirt wet from sweating from top to bottom. His hand shakes while pouring the new wine into our glasses. In the meantime the subject of our conversation has shifted from pure excitement to a 'what are we experiencing right now?' situation. People next to us started to follow our conversation. Funny, we thought when the new wine was still full of acid, yet not as much acid as the one before (we thought). With a smile we were once again trying to calm the situation down by saying that its still not what we had asked for but the situation has been outrageous enough so lets settle it. He was steaming. After another half glass we started to enjoy that evening less and less and asked our waitress over. Clearly all the staff by now was informed about our table. They looked at us as if we´re those difficult people or maybe just some less cultured 40 year olds who want to drink ourselves through their wine list (for free). Short: She said that every Riesling is very acidy treating us like amateurs playing pros actually drinking Riesling for the first time. The evening flipped right there. The sommelier standing behind her sweating but smiling. Then our waitress said that they've had many people who drink themselves through their wine stock, its not the first time. Normally enough for me to snap, but we kept our cool and told her its not really about money here, we just want to enjoy the night, drink some good wine that doesn't make us feel like we've had to vomit while speaking or latest when lying down in bed. So we told her that maybe we should just order something by the glass. Something different. Maybe even a beer. She responded that she would come back with a Chardonnay. She puts the bottle on the table with the most ignorant smile i've ever seen and leaves. Now believe it or not, that Chardonnay was again high on acid. So what does that mean? Could we have been so wrong? We are both educated enough to know about the differences. But why do they treat us that way? I called up a few friends. No one seemed ever impressed with their wine list. Also asking the Sommelier when he started his job, he said he's been a Sommelier at that place since the beginning (at least 8 years of experience). We asked for the cheque. They through the cheque on the table. All the 3 bottles were on that cheque. We asked the manager over, instead they send that poor sweat girl that seats people. She apologized. I had to walk over to the table where he (the manager) was sitting with his hipster friends. I asked him to manage the situation, but he just responded in such an arrogant way that we preferred to settle the bill and never come back. I hope I never have to see that face ever again. But I do recommend you however to go elsewhere unless you don't care about service

Yelp
I disagree with the saying Grill Royal is overrated. first, you pay what you get for: comfort, view, crowd, good food. Indeed, the food comes last because it has nothing new to say: high quality products cooked by a trained kitchen staff. You can't order 'bad' food in Grill Royal, but the quality certainly rises as the price does as well. It is a nice location to see some celebs, but taking your girlfriend/ wife there is weird, unless you go in groups. Sitting alone watching all the so-called models and some 'look how rich I am' men is nice for a while, but not for a whole evening. In Berlin there aren't many popular restaurants with such a high service and hospitality. I think it is nice when a good looking hostess welcomes you, and the open window to the kitchen is also adding to the adventure. As to the food- I tried eating some others than the filet steak, and found myself over and over disappointed I did not order the 360g steak. Although it is expensive, it's worth the price asked. Don't forget to ask for the sauce and make sure to have enough place for such a feast. Reservation are needed about 3-5 days in advance, and if you can't get a place, contact a hotel concierge, that will do the trick.

Yelp
Awesome! I'm not a steak fan. My companion loved his filet. My cod was super fresh and perfectly prepared. Potatoes au gratin was some of the best I've ever had. All the vegetables were fresh and perfect. Service adequate. Not American standard, but good enough. I come to Berlin for work a few times a year and always eat well, but Grill Royal is a cut above.

Yelp
Delicious food with a great atmosphere. It's ultra hip and caters to the who's who in Berlin. Located right on the river and quite beautiful. The service was excellent even though the restaurant was popping. I'm not a steak fan but if you are what I saw looked great. I had a fish dish and it was prepared perfect. The down side is it's very very loud and crowded. No such thing as chilling out here for a quiet romantic dinner, but hey, great atmosphere. Other thing to know is its on the high end of pricey. Bring your extra Euro's, you'll need them. I'd make the trip back again for sure.

Yelp
The ambience is probably the best thing about this place. Low lighting, with spotlights lighting up the tables, good views, comfortable banquets and the murmurs and clinks of plates and glasses is at just the right pitch. It has something of the eighties about it; I would almost expect to see Glenn Close walking through with permed hair asking for boiled bunny... The waiters oscillate between over attentive when it's quiet and entirely absent when it gets busy. This place is for meat eaters. The goulash I had was pink on the inside with julienned beetroot and crème fraiche on top. One of us went for the rib of beef for 50 Euro, the other two for fillets. All fine. The sides are where Grill Royal misses the ball. The green beans were slathered in butter and had a woody herb chopped through it - not good. The mashed potatoes that came with my goulash was going for the Joel Robuchon mash with so much butter you would get a cardiac arrest if you knew. Except the kitchen had over-estimated the amount of butter it is physically possible to whip into potatoes, the result was mash under 2 millimeters of liquid butter. Not too appetizing. Should you go? Sure, why not. At least once, for the ambiance. The goulash is quite good.

Yelp
See-and-be-seen restaurant which seems to be quite popular with the celebrity crowd. Food is good but definitely not as spectacular as some make it out to be. I've been there twice. Once service was awful, once really good. Total difference hence not consistent. Location is nice and central and prices are towards the top-end of the range but still cheap in regards to other places like NY or London. Supposedly steak is their specialty but I've had better in many places in the US and in Germany this place is nowhere near as good as Surf & Turf in Frankfurt. It's kind of one of those places you have to go once but probably won't go again unless it's your crowd.

Yelp
Grill Royal is still, after opening a couple of years ago, the it place with a virtual red carpet for any visiting Hollywood stars (Pamela Anderson sat on an adjacent table to me, oo-er). A great buzzy atmosphere with a New York-kind of vibe, service can be obnoxious but the simple grill food makes up for it with juicy, succulent steaks (think Wagyu steak) and the lobster bisque divine. Make sure to eat them (or anything) with the pommes allumettes ultra skinny chips. (Monikasays.com)

Yelp
It was a beautiful restaurant in a great location. That's where the "great" stopped. We had an shared an overpriced steak ordered medium, served practically raw. The steak was already sliced so we could not return it to the kitchen to finish cooking. The porterhouse supposedly from Omaha, Nebraska (no way!) tasted like fish and had a bizarre rubbery texture. At the end of the meal the waiter proceeded to clear the table and never asked if everything was okay despite 90% of the steak still siting on our plates. We then volunteered our feedback to the waiter to which he responded "I am not the chef" and handed us our $150 euro check. If you want to "be seen" go there, if you like good food and service try anywhere else.
