"Ticino's culinary landscape is deeply intertwined with its pre-alpine and Lombard roots, resulting in a delectable array of traditional dishes such as Ticinese risotto, polenta, cured meats, mountain cheeses, and merlot wines. These culinary delicacies often grace the menus of family-run grottos like Grotto San Rocco, which have evolved from their original roles as food and wine storage sites into rustic taverns serving local fare." - Taryn White Taryn White Taryn White is a D.C.-based travel writer who covers a wide range of topics, including family travel, hotels, food, aviation, beaches, historical and cultural topics, and wellness travel. Perfect panorama, delicious dishes and the friendliest staff (as attached 😄). The Guanciale was superb, some portions are a bit small however. The menu is quite short, but the variety is great with the daily options.

Such a beautiful location by the water. It's not too hot and has a little bit of wind going to make it comfortable (however, if you get cold fast, I recommend bringing a sweater or scarf with you). The food was amazing, very good, and has a home cooked vibe to it. Such a cute and cosy place. We had the fresh salad and tomato and onion salad as starters both very refreshing. As mains, we took codfish and fish of the day. For dessert the chocolate lava cake and panna cotta. Everything was perfectly seasoned, came in good time, and all round tasted scrumptious.

Stopped here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon on our way from Lake Como to Lucerne. We had a wonderful view from our table and lunch was fresh, simple and delicious. I started with the beet salad with walnuts and goat cheese and had the mushrooms with polenta for my main. My husband started with the special burrata salad and had the fresh tagliatelle with truffle. All of the food was great, but the fresh pasta with truffle was al dente perfection. Great spot to stop for lunch!

Beautiful waterfront grotto with a relaxed atmosphere, picture-perfect views and friendly family service. Booked a table in advance online, arrived by boat and were served very efficiently - allowing us to catch the next boat back to Lugano centrale. Recommend the burrata and truffle pasta!

Absolutely fantastic little restaurant. We had the Risotto workshop, which comes with also a delicious appetizer, wines and dessert. Our hostess, Jasmin, was very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend both the workshop and this restaurant!

Incredible spot. It’s a drive to get there but we loved the scenic ride and it was well worth it. We came early April and the sun set around 7:30pm so we had incredible sun until late. The staff is incredibly friendly and all the food we had was amazing. We’ll be back :)

The most beautiful hidden gem. Amazing to arrive by boat and relax on it afterwards. PS. The staff made our day. So helpful, welcoming, relaxed and just top notch :) Helped us dock our boat so we could come, remembered it was my friends birthday and brought her a candle and sang for her. Made us feel very welcome and special and the day was beautiful ever after :) Thank you!

Delicious food and stunning views. The portions, the variety in the menu, the decoration, everything on point. You can arrive by taxi boat and enjoy the entire experience. Will definetely come back.

Yelp
Being at this grotto has been quite a disappointment for us. The owner behaved in a very unprofessional manner towards my German speaking in-laws, who had difficulties catching up with the menu in Italian. He showed no patience at all with them and instead of helping them to figure out what to choose, he simply said that "he has no patience for this, that the restaurant is full, and special orders are not accepted". Then he left. We were not asking for special orders, we just had two 70+ people on the table, who needed time to figure things out. Unlike most restaurants in Switzerland, this one didn't offer the menu in German or French (of course neither in English), which can turn problematic for elder and non-Italian speaking customers. The location is nice and food is good but this is worth NOTHING when the owner behaves in such an arrogant manner towards customers. We usually enjoy going to Grotti in Ticino, but Grotto San Rocco is a place we don't want to go back ever again!!
