Great stay for the night whilst visiting Chatsworth at Christmas. Room was clean and big enough for the two of us had a cozy feel. We really loved our stay we had a great welcome and showed to our room which was a lovely touch you don’t really get very often nowadays. The breakfast was delicious arrived quickly and we were served by a really friendly and happy to help server. Check out was easy and hassle free. Definitely recommend and will stay again.

Went in Grouse & Claret about 12 months ago. Had a beautiful meal with friends. Went today, my partner had a mixed grill and he said it was totally disgusting. Which he did make them aware of this. If you are looking for a quality meal I give you fair warning this is not the place to go. Quality has totally gone downhill. Adding to this review later just to add my partner has now got food poisoning and is now in bed. There was something not right about that mixed grill. The egg wasn't cooked properly in the beginning. He had to send that back. If the mixed grill had been up to the standard it should have been my partner would have been more than been happy to give you a good review. Buyer beware.

Christmas day meal. Arrived a few minutes early for our 15.15hrs booking but was made to wait 25 mins. Once shown to our table at no point we're we asked if we wanted drinks, wine etc (lost sale opportunity). It also wasn't until desert that we were asked if everything was OK... The meal itself I'd score 6/10. Starter of prawn and salmon cocktail was a tad bland. Main was OK but the roast veg was not great, I expect crispy fluffy roast potatoes but the search goes on. 3 of us had the roast beef which was fine but only one of us likes horseradish sauce so why was this not served as a separate dish rather than plonked on the plate? Puddings were ok. I understand its a busy service and mass catering but the attention to detail was lacking. We ate here on the recommendation of the wife who eats here with her girl friends. I believe the price is about right but for me the search will go on for a minimum 8/10 Christmas meal experience.

Lovely warm welcome on arrival, very prompt with taking the drinks orders, food was delicious and well presented. Atmosphere was lovely, made for a very relaxing evening out with the family for birthday celebrations.

We went in on a wet Monday afternoon as a family group hoping for a cozy drink. Despite the pub being very quiet all of the booth style tables were taken by members of the pub staff all sitting on one large booth each. We asked if there was anywhere we could sit and were told to grab a few of the small round bar tables and high stools and put them together. Very odd to prioritize your staff all having a table to themselves over actual paying customers. I got the distinct feeling this place don't really want to have any customers. So we left and won't bother returning. Plenty of friendlier places in the area.

We booked through Expedia and chose to add breakfast to our booking (2 people) for an additional £19. Checkin was a slow and haphazard process with the lady searching through files and papers while telling us not to book with Expedia in future. The room was clean but tatty with mould around the bath top, floor tiles peeling up and grubby old windows. At breakfast we were extremely disappointed to see no orange juice, fruit, cereal, croissant, etc. We were presented with a priced menu. When we said we had prepaid, the waiter said there was nothing in the system... he then went away and came back saying we had paid! He then said he could do us a fry up or something off the menu! No orange juice though as this was extra! He told us to complain to head office. We won't ever be staying at a Marsdon establishment again. Shabby, overpriced and disorganised sums up our stay.

Had a lovely Breakfast. Nice cosy interior and dog friendly. The service was excellent. Had a nice relaxing time. The cost was reasonable all in all very good value. Will definitely go again.

I am writing to express my disappointment following a recent visit to the Grouse and Claret in Rowsley. As local residents, we had hoped this would become a regular place for us to dine, but the experience fell far short of the standards we expected. Upon arrival, the atmosphere was immediately unwelcoming. The man who appeared to be the manager did not offer a greeting and came across as uninterested and disengaged. His overall appearance was unkempt and unprofessional, which did not inspire confidence in the establishment’s leadership or standards. After reading some of his replies to customer feedback on Google, the tone came across as entitled and dismissive, typified by remarks suggesting that dissatisfied customers simply do not belong there. This attitude was reflected in the experience we had in person. During our visit, we waited approximately five minutes at the bar while an older member of staff sat behind it sipping her coffee, making no effort to acknowledge or serve us. The remainder of the staff appeared equally disengaged and generally miserable, creating an uncomfortable environment for customers. Unfortunately, the food did little to redeem the experience. It had the quality and presentation one might expect from microwave-prepared meals rather than freshly cooked dishes from a reputable pub chain. Overall, the visit was deeply disappointing. Significant improvements in staff attitude, attentiveness, professionalism, and food quality are urgently needed. We had hoped the Grouse and Claret would become a local favourite, but based on this experience, we will not be returning nor recommending it to others. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to meaningful improvements.
